"The Grand Daddy Hotel You might hear Long Street before you see it—this bustling artery is the heart of Cape Town , home to some of the city’s most popular restaurants, bars, and boutiques, all within a few blocks’ radius of the Grand Daddy Hotel. Built in 1895, this landmark building has been transformed into one of the city’s quirkier havens, though it somehow manages to walk the fine line between campy and classy. It’s a spot that’s beloved by tourists and locals alike (don’t be surprised to stumble onto a local fashion shoot in the gilded Daddy Cool bar). Behind the stately gray exterior lies a whimsical world: snuggle into crisp white sheets in one of the 26 colorful rooms or suites, or settle into a stylishly appointed Airstream in the rooftop trailer park. And speaking of the rooftop: there’s no better place to take in the view of Table Mountain presiding over the city."

We hosted my son Cameron’s 30th birthday party at the Grand Daddy Hotel on Sunday 14 December, and I genuinely cannot fault a single aspect of the experience. From start to finish, everything was handled with absolute professionalism, warmth and care. The process began back in March when I was visiting South Africa and was shown around the venue, including the rooftop bar. Even from that first visit, I knew we were in safe hands. As I live in the UK, all of the planning was then handled remotely, and the communication throughout was outstanding. Everything was clearly explained, well organised and meticulously planned via email. On the day itself, the team gave us all the time and flexibility we needed to come in, set up our equipment and make the space our own. We were able to play our own music and videos, and a microphone was set up perfectly for us. The hotel even provided a helpful agenda outline beforehand, which made it incredibly easy to plan the flow of the event. Every element ran exactly on time and exactly as discussed. The food was excellent, the service seamless, and the atmosphere on the rooftop was just perfect. Our guests repeatedly told us it was one of the best parties they had ever been to. A special thank you must go to Evans, who supported us throughout the entire process – from the planning stages right through to the evening itself. His attention to detail, calm professionalism and genuine helpfulness made a huge difference. I’d also like to thank the wonderful waiting staff, who went far beyond their duties on the night – happily helping with things like blowing up balloons and then assisting with taking down decorations after the event. Every member of the team was kind, generous and had such a positive attitude. I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to recommend the Grand Daddy Hotel to anyone planning a special event. It was, quite simply, a perfect evening, and we would absolutely use the venue again in the future.

Very charming hotel with nice rooms, unusual interior and very friendly and helpful staff! The rooftop terrace and one of the oldest escalators make it special anyway. Being in the center of town everything is easily reached on foot. Go for it!

We had our end of year function on the rooftop. The venue is a 10(great space and amazing views) and the barman was extremely friendly. The cocktails, however, we're watered down simply because the barman was alone serving a huge group of people - he couldn't give the drinks the attention they require. We had the braai but the meat was flavourless. The portions were very generous though. My Muslim colleagues had better reviews for their Halaal meals - they complimented the lasagne and how flavourful it was . The dessert was malva pudding with custard but the custard was watery. I expected more.

From the moment I arrived, I was blown away by the incredible service and warm hospitality from the staff. Every team member I encountered — from reception to housekeeping to the restaurant — was friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. It’s clear they take great pride in making guests feel at home. The rooms were immaculate, beautifully styled, and exceptionally comfortable. Every detail, from the linens to the amenities, reflected quality and care. It’s rare to find a space that feels both luxurious and cozy — but they’ve managed it perfectly. The food was equally impressive. Every meal was delicious, well-prepared, and full of flavor. Whether it was breakfast or dinner, the presentation and taste were top-notch — a real highlight of my stay. Overall, The Grand Daddy Boutique Hotel exceeded all my expectations. Between the incredible staff, the stylish and spotless rooms, and the high-quality dining, it’s easily one of the best hotel experiences I’ve had. Highly recommended!

It's in Long street, the busiest street in capetown during the night. The manager (a lady) is a very nice person. They have strict non smoking policy. My friend accidentally smoked 🚬 inside the room, he was to be penalised huge amount. It's until the nice calm and humble manager came down to explain to us on the rules and policies of their hotel, after a long explanation she waived the fine and gave us a discount for another night stay. The manager of this hotel is a hero.

This was a last second purchase and was limited by cost so didn't have a chance to read reviews, my mistake and I don't it want it to be yours too.||This is a cute hotel in the heart of the CBD, although the location could be considered a bit on the sketch side. Breakfast was include and well made from the onsite restaurant which was a plus. And hotel staff assisted with getting us scheduled on a great tour. Tap water provided. TV only 5 stations. However...||BEWARE potential hotel guest especially if you are in the 2nd story family room especially if you have young children or expect to sleep - Make sure they do not have an event going on in the "Rabbit Hole" event room. They have other event rooms so you could experience the same outrage we had in different rooms depending on your proximity to one of there other event rooms during your stay as we found the hard way.||When the hotel makes an excuse note and gives you earplugs before the event you know it is going to be bad. I mean who does that? I thought I booked a hotel room not an admission to a club! Someone had booked a birthday party scheduled till midnight, however the party went on and on and on till 0200+ and with the cheap earplugs the hotel gave us you could still hear the noise/music from our family room suite. Even when the cheap earplugs were not falling out of your ears you could still feel the vibration all night long. So yes, after being jetlagged and tired already this was by far the worst sleeping experience me and my family have ever had a hotel. Luckily this was the only night during our stay that had a event of this magnitude. I do not accept their apology and do not have any understanding as how they can treat there paying guests with such disregard. Be forewarned.

If you want to be in the heart of Cape Town, the Grand Daddy Boutique Hotel is the place to be. Darren and the staff are very welcoming. At the start of our 2,5 weeks South Africa tour, we stayed 4 nights, in their “Grand Daddy Suite” which was perfect. Comfortable, spacious, with a separate living room and a small outside terrace to relax. We had breakfast and dined once in the restaurant. The food was a bit long to arrive but it was well prepared and delicious. Breakfast to order, full English for my husband and several vegetarian options for me. Upstairs there is a rooftop bar, very convenient.|The hotel is listed as one of the best in Cape town. Above all you feel very safe, secure and well looked after in this establishment.

Our stay at Grand Daddy Hotel was extremely disappointing, especially given the circumstances. I was very sick and throwing up, and at 6 a.m. my husband needed to go to the pharmacy to get me medication, but the front door was locked with no way to exit and no staff available to help us. This felt unsafe and unacceptable. The hotel itself felt very old and poorly maintained, with broken elevators and a generally run-down condition. Our room was extremely loud, with constant outside noise and traffic, making rest impossible. The surrounding area also felt unsafe. We stayed based on good reviews but were genuinely shocked, particularly during a time when basic care and safety were crucial. Would not recommend.
