The Grand Hotel Nuwara Eliya - Heritage Grand

We came here for high tea after a hike to the waterfall. The service was fantastic and the food delicious. We were also able to order a cheese pizza for the kids. The food came out quickly and we were able to try a great variety of food and 4 different teas. The hotel is absolutely stunning. It was still decorated for Christmas. The trees and decorations are beautifully done. Highly recommend adding to your Nuwara Eliya plans.

This was honestly one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed in. I visited during the holiday season, and the atmosphere was absolutely magical. The breakfast deserves a special mention: I have never seen such a wide selection anywhere else. It was definitely a huge plus, perhaps breakfast could be served a bit later as guests are on vacation and may want to sleep in. However, there were a few things that disappointed me. The tour with Pedro was not what we were promised. We were told that for 100 USD it would be a private experience just for us, but in reality we were added to a larger group of people who had paid very little for the same experience as I checked… That felt unfair, especially considering the price. For that amount, I expected a truly private tour or at least a more exclusive experience, possibly going further or offering something extra rather than one cup of tea (which was descirbed as a tea tasting) so I do not recommend buying this trip as transport can be arranged much more cheaply on your own and everything is the same once you are there. The service could also be more attentive. It was a bit irritating when plates were taken away while we were still eating, and there was some confusion during check-in when our luggage was mixed up. Although I was very grateful for the early check-in, especially after a 24-hour journey that made a big difference and was very much appreciated. Despite these issues, I will remember my stay positively overall. The beauty of the hotel, the festive atmosphere did it’s job.

We stayed at the Grand Hotel with the family for a few nights during the Christmas period. We enjoyed the relaxing high tea experience, the violin playing in the background, gave it the perfect royalty vibe!. The Christmas buffet was out of this world! and table layout was excellent Clearly a lot of effort had been made. We were overcome with the quantity and variety of the food and the beautiful layout too! The live music was enjoyable and added to the relaxing mood at the end of the day! Staff were polite and helpful also

I would ever stay at the Grand Hotel when in Nuwara Eliya. Beautiful hotel really takes one back in time. Superb evening live music. Great rooms. Great Welcome. Front office so great ha dlign chekc in while ur having a drink and/or exploring. Also the Spa is wonderful and the staff are great, treatments are great, The Thai restaurant is amazing,, food is authentic tastes great, service here is very good. Only negative is the lack of urgency in F&B service delivery. The team is good, great attitude, always smiling but it is slow and unrushed - maybe some training and or more floor supervisors who also work. This is Srilankan problem in most hotels but it can be fixed and this is important. This is easily fixa le tho and shoukd not deter anyone from experiencing this wonderful heritage hotel!

Absolutely gorgeous accommodation! Amazing building with so many intimate and different areas to enjoy. Totally devine food with magical display. Wonderful staff who are so happy and caring. Risndu - Waiter main restaurant was so attentive and knowledgeable. Jayampathi - Supervisor Housekeeping was very efficient, friendly and experienced. A highlight of our trip! Thank you!

This was our third consecutive visit for Christmas, and it’s a pleasure to see how the level of service and overall offering continue to improve year after year. The service is exceptional the staff are warm, attentive, and always at your disposal, making every stay feel truly special. The food is excellent, though there is still room for improvement overall. That said, a special mention must go to the Thai Restaurant, which is probably the best Thai dining experience in Sri Lanka. The Christmas dinner is a real highlight, creating an atmosphere that genuinely makes you feel like you’re in a European country, with beautiful festive décor and a wonderful seasonal vibe. Everything comes together perfectly and truly lives up to the name “Grand.” A timeless hotel that continues to raise the bar. Highly recommended.

Superb hotel. Exquisite in character decor and ambience. The staff attend to guests every need. The food is excellent. We travelled here following the cyclone. Despite the challenges everything was perfect. Our room beautiful. I particularly would like to thank Indika restaurant manager and his team. Wonderful service all times of day. Manoi who welcomed us and patiently took several photographs of us posing with the reindeer sleigh, and Tiron who ensured my swims in the pool were peaceful and even had my towel ready. The Christmas decorations are the best I’ve ever seen. I wish we could be here to share in the festivities which no doubt will be great. Thank you to everyone at the Grand Hotel.

I have been going to the Grand Hotel in Nuwara Eliya for as long as I can remember. Certainly for over 40 years. I have seen its many different phases, sometimes rather run down and unloved, tired and shabby but always with a certain old world charm which was ( and still is) rather endearing. This time however, it was absolutely glowing! Restored and renovated it shon even more so with the beautiful Christmas lights and decorations which were classy. Just what one would expect at the Grand! How wonderful! I feel that the hotel is now where it should be; one of our islands most iconic historic hotels, and a place to be proud of! Congratulations!||We had a most wonderful lunch at the western/local restaurant ( there is a Thai and Indian one too). My brother and I had the Rospaan with chicken and beef respectively with the most delicious “dunking “ gravy. My husband had the angus beef which was cooked to perfection and my sister-in- law enjoyed a good old fashioned hamburger with fries. The service was quick and professional with the head steward Anthony leading the team. ||Just two minor points to look into; the washrooms should have bidet showers, and the tea/coffee cups in the restaurant should be replaced as the rims ( paint) is frayed and my cup had the smallest chip! ||However, well done and best of luck!
