The Grand Lucayan

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Grand Lucayan. I booked my reservation a month in advance, only to have it canceled the day before my trip. This was not only inconvenient but also very unprofessional, as it left me scrambling to make last-minute arrangements. A resort of this caliber should value its guests’ time and commitment and provide better communication and customer service. I expected much more reliability and consideration.

My husband and I got a day pass so we could go to the beach here. We were on a cruise and when we went to get a taxi, this beach was recommended as being more secure than the one we really wanted to go to. It is a very nice beach and the food and drinks served on the beach were magnificent. The chairs were quite comfortable and the water was beautiful. We only had a few hours here but really enjoyed those few hours. The area surrounding the beach looked pretty empty for the most part. We had been here in 2015 and hardly recognized the general area. A little research revealed that is about to be redeveloped after hurricane damage.

Overall, my stay was okay. The hotel is all-inclusive, which is convenient, but the service could definitely be better. The staff wasn’t rude, but they also weren’t friendly — more indifferent than anything else. One morning at breakfast, I waited for about a minute before the staff member (who was on her phone) even acknowledged me. The food was just okay, nothing to rave about. The kitchen and bar service also lacked warmth — one of the bartenders seemed irritated anytime someone approached, which made it uncomfortable. If you’re looking for an all-inclusive option in Freeport, this place might work. Just don’t expect standout service or exceptional food. It gets the job done, but not much more than that.

Great place to vacation in the Bahamas. The customer service was wonderful and the location was perfect! We had the best time.

I visited the ‘Grand’ Lucayan resort yesterday on a day trip from a cruise ship. Whilst the beach is very pleasant and the bar functional, we could not get over the rest of the resort. The main hotel has clearly been closed for years and has fallen into a dilapidated state. Some windows are boarded up, gutters hanging off etc. All the grounds are returning to nature and are not looked after. The pool is dirty and obviously not properly maintained - we gave it a wide berth. When we peered in the window of the former main hotel, we were promptly shooed away by a security guard. They clearly don’t want people figuring out that the resort is pretty much dead, although it is blatantly obvious from the minute you arrive. Onsite shops are either boarded up or just permanently closed, there are no beach activities, other than a guy selling drinks, and the whole place is like a scene from The Walking Dead. And I mean literally. ||Our day was pleasant enough, but we were only there for a few hours on the beach which is what we achieved. ||On the coach home, our local guide told us that the hotel was badly damaged in 2019 by the hurricane and tidal surge and became uninhabitable and uninsurable thereafter. It was then bought by the government but numerous attempts to sell it on or develop it since have fallen through. ||We were absolutely staggered to find out that in fact one of the buildings on site is still taking paying guests for holidays. If I arrived here for a holiday, I would immediately turn around and go back to the airport.

The Grand Lucayan Resort has a stunning exterior and an unbeatable location right on the beach. The views alone are worth the trip—crystal blue waters and soft white sand make for a picture-perfect tropical setting. You really can’t beat the peaceful vibes and natural beauty of this resort. Security is a clear priority here, which I appreciated. The resort is strict with wristbands—if you’re not a guest, you’re kindly asked to leave. It definitely makes you feel safe and like the property is well-managed. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the check-in process was smooth and hassle-free. That said, there were some major drawbacks during my stay. Unfortunately, for two full days, the entire resort was without air conditioning. My room became unbearably hot and uncomfortable, making it almost impossible to relax or sleep. I reached out to the front desk, but was told there wasn’t anything they could do. I also overheard other guests dealing with even bigger room issues. In general, the rooms are in need of serious updates. The carpet was old and worn, and the overall look and feel of the room didn’t match the beauty and quality of the resort’s exterior. Because of the heat and lack of AC, I ended up checking out early. Overall, it wasn’t a terrible stay—but it wasn’t great either. The location and staff are great, but the resort’s infrastructure and room conditions definitely need attention. With some upgrades and more reliable amenities, this place could be amazing

The hotel is in need of some serious TLC. All the rooms are outdated. The pool and outdoor restaurant area had rubbish on the grass that was never cleared and the landscaping was spare. It wasn’t busy when I stayed so the service seemed fine. There was a section on the beach that was constantly over run by gulls, which flocked in dozens to clean themselves and drink from the hotel pool. Overall not a hotel I would recommend.

I recently had the opportunity to stay at the Grand Lucayan Lighthouse Resort in Freeport, Bahamas, with a large group of friends and family. I have been visiting the beautiful island of Freeport Bahamas for over 15 years and thought I knew exactly what to expect form this experience. This was my first time staying at this resort. While the resort boasts a beautiful setting and offers some excellent experiences in and around the hotel (karaoke was a big fan favorite), our stay was unfortunately marred by subpar service at the pool and evening resort bar. The Good: Beautiful Property: The resort itself is stunning, with well-maintained grounds and a picturesque beachfront location. Efficient Reservations: The reservations team was helpful and accommodating, ensuring our large group had a seamless booking process. Pleasant Dining Experiences: The on-site restaurants provided delicious meals and attentive service, especially for our large group. A couple staff members at the on site restaurant quickly became some of the favorites on the trip. The Bad: Disappointing Pool Bar Service: A significant drawback of our stay was the consistently poor service at the pool bars. Having such a large group the large majority of our stay was spent in the pool and on the beach. Despite being one of the few guests at the pool, we often experienced extended wait times for simple drinks, as the bar staff prioritized socializing among themselves. This level of inattention to guests was frustrating and detracted from our overall experience. Conclusion: While the Grand Lucayan Lighthouse Resort offers a beautiful setting and some excellent dining options, the subpar service at the pool bars significantly impacted our stay as that was where we spent most of our time and would get food during the days. Given the high expectations for an all-inclusive resort, it is disappointing that such a fundamental aspect of the guest experience was not met. We would recommend considering other options for future visits to Freeport.
