We had the most wonderful stay! Paul and Brendan the hosts, were absolutely lovely, so welcoming and attentive. The hotel itself is stunning, filled with exquisite furniture and beautiful antiques, all styled so eloquently. Their taste is simply impeccable. Our room was very comfortable and wonderfully decorated. The location perfect, close to the town centre yet very quiet. And the breakfasts... truly the best I wish we could of stayed longer.

We found the Grand because the owner Paul responded to my question about places for breakfast after leaving the Spirit of Tasmania. |What a wonderful introduction to historic Tasmania. Paul and Brendan have lovingly restored this lovely heritage guest house to the splendour of its heyday and we felt like we were dining at Downton Abbey. |Our hosts were super attentive and told as about the history of the house and we got to see some of the beautiful rooms. |Breakfast was a full cooked delight with the best coffee I’ve ever had. |Will definitely be back for a few nights of pampering by these wonderful hosts.

Love the gentleman that own the place . It is definitely a place that takes you back in time. The breakfast was top notch. There is no elevator and most rooms are on the second floor. Paul is very knowledgeable about what and where to go and see.

A stunning home with historical beauty. So nice and friendly we cancelled our last night's accommodation and rebooked here. We are looking forward to having another delicious breakfast.

This amazing B&B does not disappoint. The rooms are exquisite, beds very comfortable, beautiful linen and a delicious freshly cooked breakfast. What more could you ask for. We will definitely stay again. A Magnificent property which is an absolute credit to the very proud owners who have painstakingly renovated this majestic grand house, with more renovations planned in the winter months when they close to the public. Their High Tea looks amazing, apparently all made fresh by in-house chef Brenden. We will try and plan ahead next time and book in for the High Tea. Bookings in advance are essential, so don't miss out like we did!

The best place ever! Was a wonderful experience staying at this beautiful place! Rooms were wonderful beds and pillows comfortable, but what makes this place amazing are the hosts Paul and Brendan. They went out of the way to accommodate our needs and supplied valuable tips for how to spend our time here where to eat, shop, entertainment. The breakfasts were really great with so many options to choose from.

From the moment we saw the stately home, our two day visit was faultless. Paul & Brendan are great hosts, excellent chefs and all the rooms are wonderfully presented. It is a lovely guest house, with a communal lounge as well as spacious rooms. Great views across the river on a balcony with lovely chairs to lounge in.||Full breakfast on both days had great selections of eggs, bacon and other tasty selections.||Our room, the Queen Room, was a suite, very comfortable with lovely antiques.||We would recommend this lovely home for any occasion.

Absolutely Stunning. stayed her for one night. Rooms were luxurious with a separate lounge and bathroom. Large breakfast was lovely. We sat on the balcony to watch the Spirit of Tasmania turn around and leave for Geelong, then walked into town for dinner. Host Paul and Brendan were amazing. The house itself is amazing and attention to details from yesteryear is stunning. Definitely treat your self to stay here when in Devonport

Yelp
First off, the two guys who run this gorgeous B & B in Devonport, in the north of Tasmania, are so warm and welcoming, it's almost like staying at your fave uncles' home. There are cellophane bags of homemade shortbread biscuits when you check in. Nice touch!! Super delicious! The property is a two-storey old mansion, chock full of antiques, collectibles and beautiful paintings. Our upstairs room was very romantic and spacious, with a four poster king-sized bed and a separate bathroom with shower & mini-bar fridge. We only stayed for one night and our host told us that he usually directs guests to a restaurant called "Mrs. Jones" but unfortunately it is not open on Mondays... so the next best bet was a pub down by the dock where we could watch the Ferry come in that eve. The place was bustling and the food was off the charts good!! If that was the second-best place in town... then - wow. Slow-cooked lamb shoulder feast was to die for. Back to the B & B to kick back after dinner. Wrap-around upstairs balcony was the perfect place to hang out and watch a lightning storm while sipping a glass of whiskey. We headed off to Cradle Mtn the next day for NYE at Peppers (also fantastic!) Meanwhile, I had realised that I had forgotten to pack a (much-needed) belt for the dress I had been planning to wear that eve... I took a chance and asked our gracious hosts if it might be possible for them to give me a small length of black cord or fabric that I could use as an impromptu belt? Not a problem! Turns out that one of the guys is apparently fairly talented with a sewing machine. He proceeded to whip me up a BELT -- carefully stitched, hemmed and nicely finished. Within 12 minutes - no exaggeration. I was speechless with gratitude. I cannot recommend The Grand on Macfie highly enough - for its outstanding hospitality and comfort. Oh, did I forget to mention the 5-star homemade breakfast that's included with the room rate? Eggs Benedict with perfectly runny yolks and rich, homemade hollandaise sauce -- in fact, pretty well anything your heart desires can be prepared to order. Divine espresso, too. Definitely a highlight of our memorable trip to Tassie. I'm still dreaming about those shortbread cookies... Thank you, guys!! BIG LOVE xox

Yelp
Wow, my wife and I love period houses and this property scores big with both of us. Built in the 1890's and immaculately presented inside and out with great views. The two gentlemen that run this business love this building and it shows in the quality of the renovations and the tasteful period decorations and furnishings. The warm welcome and the genuineness of both Paul and Brendon make your stay like your visiting with your favourite relatives and their knowledge of the history of the property is an added bonus. Breakfast is served in the dining room which like the rest of the property is immaculately presented and the selection and size of the servings are generous, not to mention also delicious. There is a communal lounge with plump leather lounge and chair where guests can sit and read or chat with a nice glass of port or sherry. If you in Devonport for business or pleasure you must stay here. You won't regret it.
