I had a deeply disappointing and upsetting experience with Grand Palace Ballroom in North Lauderdale. I paid for an event for my grandson that never took place, and despite repeated requests, the owner kept my money and refused to issue a refund.
The situation escalated when, the day before the event, the owner suddenly raised the price to $85 per person, which was far higher than what had originally been agreed upon. This last-minute change made it impossible to proceed, and the event never happened.
When we attempted to calmly discuss the issue and request a refund, the owner repeatedly stated that her husband was the mayor and implied that we should not be asking for our money back. This felt intimidating, inappropriate, and completely unprofessional, especially given that no services were ever provided.
As a senior citizen, this experience was extremely stressful and unfair. No event took place, no service was rendered, yet my money was kept in full. There was no good-faith effort to resolve the situation.
If anyone else has had a similar experience, please reach out. I intend to report this matter to the Florida Division of Consumer Services and pursue legal options to recover my money. After reading other low-rating reviews, it is clear this is not an isolated incident, and this kind of behavior should not continue to happen.
I strongly advise anyone considering this venue to proceed with extreme caution, especially when paying deposits or advance payments. Based on my experience, I would not trust this business to handle events or customer funds responsibly.
