This was our first time visiting The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze at Old Bethpage Village Restoration, and both my family and I loved the experience!
Each section of the walk was beautifully decorated, with themed stories that matched the town’s rich history. The path was illuminated with tons of lights, spooky sound effects, projections, and fog, creating an eerie yet family-friendly atmosphere. The walk itself takes about 45 minutes, but I highly recommend taking your time to read the signs, admire the intricately carved jack o’lanterns, and snap some photos.
Along the way, we even passed a few historical homes, including some from the Hewlett and Schenck families, as well as an old barn, all with informative illuminated signs that added an educational twist.
However, I was disappointed to discover that the “7,000 hand-carved jack o’lanterns” advertised were not all real. Most of the structures were made with artificial pumpkins, which took away some of the authenticity for me. That said, the artificial pumpkins were still hand-crafted by very talented artists, and the level of artistry is impressive.
Overall, while I wish there were more real pumpkins, we still had an amazing time. It’s a fantastic event for all ages and a great way to kick off the spooky season!
