The Greater World Earthship Community Visitor Center, Taos NM 🌎 If you’re curious about sustainable living or alternative architecture, this is one of the most fascinating stops you can make around Taos. The Earthship Visitor Center offers a short self-guided tour for $9, and it’s worth every minute. The buildings are constructed from recycled materials bottles, cans, and tires transformed into beautiful, functional off-grid homes that generate their own power, collect water and regulate temperature naturally. The design is unlike anything else: curvy walls, colorful glass mosaics, and creative greenhouses that grow real plants year-round using only recycled water. Inside the visitor center, you’ll find informative displays explaining how Earthships manage solar energy, water reuse, and waste treatment. It’s both an education and an inspiration for anyone interested in eco-friendly living. The atmosphere is quiet and surreal, surrounded by the New Mexico desert and the snow-capped Sangre de Cristo Mountains in the background. Parking is free and easy right in front of the center. You can walk around several demo structures and take plenty of photos without disturbing residents. Overall, this is not just a tourist stop it’s a glimpse into what sustainable housing can really look like. Highly recommended for travelers, photographers, architects, and dreamers alike. 🌿🔆 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 A must-see example of human creativity meeting environmental responsibility.

This was an unexpected stop for me and so glad I was able to see it. What an incredible place. There’s a nice little self guided tour for $9. You can’t go inside the homes but you get a very good idea of the features and the videos show you how beautiful and amazing the homes are inside.

This stop wasn’t planned. Not something I ever excepted to see in person. The architecture and design is very elaborate but cohesive.

Friendly visitor's center. You can take a self guided tour for $9 but can't enter the 70+ building community since that's on private property. You search Zillow if you wanna but it's not cheap. Very interesting and I learned a lot.

The architecture and design are super exotic. The mechanisms they've built to be self-sustaining are interesting to study. It's a quick walk through the building and publicly accessible grounds, so you don't need a lot of time to take a look.

This is so cool. Got an air BNB for a couple nights.. really enjoyed it. Love how everything is off grid.. just remember to bring biodegradable soaps and other things.. I wish they had neighborhoods like this where I'm from..
