The Green Dragon Inn

The Green Dragon Inn, nestled in the picturesque Hobbiton in New Zealand, is a delightful spot that truly embodies the charm and spirit of Middle-earth. Its rustic design, with its thatched roof and wooden beams, makes you feel as if you've stepped right into the Shire. One of my favorite aspects of the inn is its warm atmosphere. It's the perfect place to take a break after exploring the beautiful Hobbiton movie set, surrounded by lush green landscapes and quaint hobbit holes. You can sipping on a specially brewed Hobbit ale or cider while soaking in the enchanting scenery. Interestingly, the inn was built as part of the Hobbiton experience, and it incorporates many details that fans of the films will appreciate. For instance, the decor features many references to the beloved stories, making it a treasure trove for Tolkien enthusiasts. Additionally, there’s a unique story behind its creation; the inn was designed to feel like a place where hobbits would gather to celebrate and socialize. The care taken in its construction really brings the spirit of the story to life. As a visitor, experiencing events like evening feasts really adds to the immersive experience. The combination of traditional food, the beautiful setting, and lively entertainment can transport you to a different world. Overall, I’d say The Green Dragon Inn is not just a place to grab a drink—it’s an essential part of the Hobbiton experience, offering a taste of hobbit life and a chance to create lasting memories amidst the enchanting backdrop of New Zealand’s landscapes.

Located inside the LOTR Hobbiton area, this bar serves regular beer, black beer or ginger beer as well as a selection of soft drinks. All very intricately designed and authentic. This is your last stop at the end of the tour. This place is super busy so you must buy tickets ahead of time.

An absolute must for every Lord of the Rings and Hobbit fan in connection with the tour. This is my second time here and I'm enjoying it just as much as the first time. The lunch combo is highly recommended and the drinks are great too. I love it.

I visited as part of the Hobbiton guided tour and I loved it! The food was really good, and the ambience was incredible, from the setting to the details, it felt like stepping into the real pub from the movies. Such a fun and immersive place to visit, and a must-do for any Hobbiton/Lord of the Rings fan.

This has to be the best pub on earth. Middle earth. After a long journey—there is no beter place to return to than the Green Dragon Pub. Trust me, this spot is truly precious. ​The views of the Shire from the outdoor tables are simply breathtaking. You can practically see all the way to Farmer Maggot's feilds. It's the absolute best part of the whole Hobbiton experience; while the tour is excellent, nothing beats sitting down here and feeling like you've finally come home. ​Now, for the serious business: the libations. This establishment serves the best beers in all of Middle-earth, hands down. I can personally attest that the stout was the best—a dark, comforting brew that felt like a reward for carrying a massive burden. For those hot days, their cider is also very nice and incredibly refreshing. The only problem is you might be tempted to stay for Second Breakfast, Elevenses, Luncheon... you get the picture. ​Finally, even the practical details are handled with charm. The loos are also themed, adding a fun touch to a necessary stop, but don't worry, they are thankfully not hobbit sized. Our tour guide was Sam H Ledge.

This was an incredible experience for any fan of the LOTR, big or small! Loved the stories & all the amazing people who make this adventure happen each day! Highly recommended and well worth the cost!

This was my 5th time visiting Hobbiton and 2nd time on the evening banquet tour. It truly is a magical place. Highly recommend the evening banquet tour, with a delicious feast at The Green Dragon after a guided stroll through the Shire. Tour guides James and Mike really made us feel at home. Kia ora whanau, we will be back!

What a treat to be at the 2 world famous Inn. We had a wonderful time. I couldn't stop singing. There is not a lot of food offered so be sure to eat before hand. There are a lot of small details to see so look around.
