A Grown-Up’s Guide to Hobbiton, New Zealand | Vogue

"Cozy and film-famous, this inn caps the journey as we're welcomed with a refreshing Southfarling Sackville Cider. It's the homey hangout seen in many scenes, and as part of the Evening Banquet tour, foodies can settle in for a banquet fit for an elf queen after a twilight twirl around Hobbiton, with Middle-Earth themed dishes like plum pudding and stews awaiting." - Leena Tailor

This has to be the best pub on earth. Middle earth. After a long journey—there is no beter place to return to than the Green Dragon Pub. Trust me, this spot is truly precious. The views of the Shire from the outdoor tables are simply breathtaking. You can practically see all the way to Farmer Maggot's feilds. It's the absolute best part of the whole Hobbiton experience; while the tour is excellent, nothing beats sitting down here and feeling like you've finally come home. Now, for the serious business: the libations. This establishment serves the best beers in all of Middle-earth, hands down. I can personally attest that the stout was the best—a dark, comforting brew that felt like a reward for carrying a massive burden. For those hot days, their cider is also very nice and incredibly refreshing. The only problem is you might be tempted to stay for Second Breakfast, Elevenses, Luncheon... you get the picture. Finally, even the practical details are handled with charm. The loos are also themed, adding a fun touch to a necessary stop, but don't worry, they are thankfully not hobbit sized. Our tour guide was Sam H Ledge.

This was my 5th time visiting Hobbiton and 2nd time on the evening banquet tour. It truly is a magical place. Highly recommend the evening banquet tour, with a delicious feast at The Green Dragon after a guided stroll through the Shire. Tour guides James and Mike really made us feel at home. Kia ora whanau, we will be back!

Really feels like your stepping back it time. Now food I must say is very limited buy very tasty. Not normally a pie or ginger beer guy but both of these items were probably some of the best I've had. Highly recommended. The pie literally had big chunks of beef... yummy 😋 The muffin was also quality and I even split it with my daughter but I was full afterwards. ☺️

Amazing experience!! I went there with my family and we all felt we stepped into another world! The place is exactly like the movie scenes from Lord of the Rings and we all felt like we were the movie characters, moving through the place. It really is like walking into a fantasy realm, the houses are all so small and looks like only dwarf or smurf can live inside. But surprisingly, they let us visit inside one of the houses and all the movie props were preserved so well! Everything was so lifelike and some of the props such as the cooking pot was shaking and even had steam blowing out. The fire place was real too, with real wood and real fire. At first i thought it was a fake fire made of paper but when i walked over and felt the heat, o realised it was a real fire!! It's definitely a must visit tourist spot, highly recommend!!

The Green Dragon is the end of the Hobbiton tour and a lovely place to kick back and relax over a beverage. There's plenty to see here and the attention to detail, as seen throughout Hobbiton, continues here. Don't forget your passport because without it they can't serve you your complementary beverage (unless you have an New Zealand ID) Just like the rest of Hobbiton, the Green Dragon will be a highlight of your trip.

Attended the 2025 Beer Festival. What an amazing time we had at The Greeb Dragon I'm. You all must visit. Seriously, this is such a highlight for any North Island trip!!!! The beers are local and delicious, the vibes are on point and the aesthetic is divine. Staff were so friendly and chatty in a good way. 10/10 ALL DAY!

It was pretty good, but they don't serve pints. If want full pints, try the a Prancing Pony, in Bree. It's just down the road over the Brandywine river and through the hedge. If you come late at night, don't worry, the gate to the town is hardly on its hinge due to some nasty folks a few years back, and can be easily pushed over.
