We really enjoyed our recent stay at The Green Iguana Hotel! Located right next to Blackbeard’s Castle in the historic part of Charlotte Amalie, it was a short walk down to the shops and restaurants along the waterfront. It is a climb back up to the hotel, but the views are beautiful and there are plenty of places to rest along the way. The room was clean, charming, and had great air conditioning. The hosts, Chase & Lyndsey, are incredibly friendly and helpful. They gave us several great recommendations for what to do and where to eat. They also arranged taxis to pick us up from the airport and to take us to the ferry terminal. I would definitely stay here again!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Green Iguana Hotel. The room was clean, comfortable, and had a beautiful view. The price is very fair, and having a full-size kitchen is a great feature for longer stays. We did not use it much this time, but it is nice to have the option. Parking was convenient and the pool was a great place to cool off and relax. We usually enjoy connecting with the owners at smaller hotels to get their favorite local tips and recommendations. We did not have much of that interaction here, but everything else was smooth and well taken care of. The safe box was not working during our stay, but the room overall was in great condition. This is a solid and peaceful place to stay in St. Thomas, and we would definitely consider coming back.

I stayed at the green iguana in June and had a lovely stay in the queen sized room with a balcony. I had a fully stocked kitchen and desk area and was walking distance to the downtown bars and restaurants. The property is beautiful and I was greeted by Chase and Lyndsey who were so sweet and made sure I was taken care of during my stay. I could not ask for anything more here it was truly lovely.

We stayed here twice in the past two weeks. Great little boutique hotel and the GMs - Chase & Lindsey - were on site to greet us and make sure everything was ok. My wife is on a walker due to an injury so they gave us a room close to the entrance for easier access. Great little pool and the rooms were decorated nicely island style. |I highly recommend a stay there if you’re in STT.

We stayed here for 2 days before checking into the Marriott. Let me tell you this is a hidden gem and definitely someplace I would go back to for a weeks stay. Several times during our stay at the Marriott we said, I wish we were back at the Green Iguana. The place was very clean, very private and a little kitchen area that would have been perfect to stay longer. The pool was ideal. We floated in the pool both days with no one else! Totally relaxing with everything you need for a vacation! Only bad point is walking to town is great as it is down hill, but getting back up, you need to be in good shape, but a taxi is a great solution and what we would have needed at the Marriott too.

We stayed two nights here; one the first night we arrived in St. Thomas and one night before we left St. Thomas. Carol and Kevin, the proprietors, were very helpful and friendly and were lifesavers with the name of a very reliable taxi company. The hotel is built into the side of the hill, so there are steps to get from place to place. It is very lush and tropical, and we enjoyed sitting outside, listening to the chickens and watching the hummingbirds! The pool looked inviting, but we did not get a chance to use it.||We had a very spacious queen room. The bed and linens were very comfortable, the air conditioning worked well. There was a microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, and utensils perfect for heating up leftovers. One step below the main part of the bedroom was a wall of windows that looked down over the city and harbor, and this part of the room had a table and chairs and a settee. The bathroom was bright and spacious. Altogether, it was a very clean and charming room.||It is an interesting and fairly easy walk down the hill to get to the area where the restaurants are located. Returning up the hill was quicker than we thought it would be, and is a little bit of a workout. It is a good idea to plan your day. For example, it was helpful to us to have something purchased in advance to eat back at the room for breakfast so we didn’t have to go down the hill before we were picked up by taxis to go to the ferry or the airport.

We stayed here one night before getting on a catamaran. One of our group had stayed here about 2 years ago and really enjoyed it. Well it has new owners and they need a lesson in hospitality. Upon arrival wasn't greeted with a "welcome", but with "you are here earlier than I expected" even though I had emailed her exactly what ferry we were arriving on so it shouldn't have been a surprise and it was after 4pm so it's not as if we were expecting an early check in. The room was clean, but obvious water damage to the ceiling that got worse as we were there because it was raining. Had a small coffee maker with very weak coffee. Owner was not very friendly. Check out was at 10am and when we asked if they could hold onto our luggage as we had a 2pm ferry she said we could just leave in the hall if we wanted (unattended). Asked if it was okay to hang out by the pool after check out while waiting for ferry and she didn't seem thrilled and was quick to point out there would be no where to change clothes and no restroom available. Didn't even want to ask if we could use a beach towel. Our group was convinced too that they turned off the WiFi in the morning. Just overall got bad vibes from the new female owner. Had very little interaction with male owner but he seemed nicer. I will be staying somewhere else on next visit to St Thomas.

This place is super duper great. Super chill mom and pop owned place, and they were so great. The ac is fab, the pool is great, it's so quiet and there's only a few rooms - so it's not crowded. The rooms are nice and clean, there's a kitchen and it has everything you need. The one flaw, which isn't even really a flaw is that it's at the top of a hill so just walking back up it in the humidity was a TREK.

Yelp
We needed a place to stay for a night before we took the ferry to Tortola and this was the perfect spot for our needs. The rooms were clean and had all the amenities one could want (including full kitchens for folks who want to stay longer). We had a little patio off our room with a wonderful view over the town and to the ocean that was wonderful. This was everything we could want for a quick stay without all the bells and whistles (and associated $$$) provided by those mega hotels/resorts. John and Gwen know their business well and provided us a map with how to walk from the hotel through Charolette Amalie with tips on which restaurants/bars would be open late at night and which would need reservations for, etc. They even ensured you knew how to get around by showing you pictures all the points of reference for you to turn left/right on as you walked around. John and Gwen even arranged a taxi to pick us up from the hotel and deliver us to the ferry making the whole stay as seamless and stress free as possible.

Yelp
This quaint spot is both exotic and convenient! It's right off the Waterfront, so you are literally in the heart of St. Thomas! Enjoy the local cuisine and shopping within walking distance! I would suggest staying here as opposed to the resorts. Excursions are not too far away, you can walk everywhere and not to mention, they are super friendly! The pool and the deck are beautiful! I enjoyed every single moment and I cannot wait to return!!! Thank you for a splendid stay!

Yelp
I loved this place. It had everything I needed in a budget friendly hotel. I had a nice big room with a full kitchen and a lovely view. I enjoyed the location. It is right at the top of the 99 steps. I was able to get my cardio workout in by my three or four trips up and down the stairs daily. It is convenient and safe. Best of all are the managers, Chase and Lyndsey. They were the best. So generous with their time and useful recommendations in the area. Just wonderful people. I highly recommend this hotel. Don't expect the Ritz just a homey place to stay.

Yelp
Very nice older hotel, few easy cosmetic fixes in the room n this could be a 5 star. Couple running the place very accommodating n eco systems all worked great. Pool is very simplistic n clean with great view.

Yelp
We had an awful experience at this place. My sister and I did not feel safe on the property and the surrounding area for multiple reasons. We felt uncomfortable with the hosts since our arrival. The room was not clean and not maintained at all. The host was not understanding of our concerns, but air bnb was able to help us move to a new place. As we were waiting for airbnb to process a few things to check out, the owner came to our door to threaten us and was very hostile towards us. The things she said was very unprofessional, confirming the fact that we didn't feel safe nor comfortable on this property. I urge you to reconsider staying elsewhere during your stay. There are other far more beautiful places on the island with hospitable hosts.

Yelp
Gwen was so welcoming and kind when we arrived. Our room was super cute and had the most gorgeous view. Love the location, very close to town. Only downside is the 100 stairs you have to walk up and down to walk in and out of town (which you can take a taxi if you don't want to do the stairs)

Yelp
If your looking for a place that's laid back, great accommodations and awesome staff with amazing views, the Green Iguana is the place you want to be. You'll get a local feel with all the sides when you stay here. Our room views were breath taking, the location was the best for local dinning and entertainment, we didn't need a car to wild out, we walked. The Managers are the BEST, their vibe is the same as the atmosphere of the property, very laid back and chill, Thank you John and Gwen for your hospitality, you're the best!!! SO much so, that we'll be back soon. If you want to enjoy your visit to the island and not pay a rib and an eyeball for Awesomeness, this is the place, but if you're one of those BOUGIE type people and need a fireplace, huge bathtub and roses sprinkled on the ground in front of you...this isn't the place for your type. The only thing you'll get sprinkled on the ground in front of you... are BIG Iguanas, very BIG iguanas, but they love taking pictures, Enjoy!

Yelp
If you want an awesome local experience STAY HERE !!! I live on YELP, and would be remiss if I didn't post a review. John and Gwen have local knowledge of anywhere you would like to go on St. Thomas and surrounding islands. The hotel has every amenity to keep you comfortable and the pool is perfect !! Evenings speaking with other guests or John and Gwen, just makes the stay even more memorable. Cannot wait to visit again !!!!!

Yelp
Meh. This place isn't too bad, but it's not great either. The room we stayed in (H2) had very outdated decor. The bed was comfortable enough I suppose. I didn't like all the little notices everywhere, including one asking us not to put luggage on the bed, and another saying not to use the sham pillows for sleeping. Seriously? The main reason for 2 stars instead of 3: I booked a couple of months out and spent a long time on their website trying to choose the best room for us (H1). When I emailed with our flight info a couple of days before, I was told that we'd be in H2 instead, stating, "H1 is down for maintenance." That would be OK if that was actually true - we were a bit miffed to see another couple coming out of their on multiple occasions during our two night visit. If I have to stay in Charlotte Amalie again then I'd likely look elsewhere.

Yelp
Thank you so much for accommodating us during our recent stay. The hotel was just as quaint and homey as I had remembered from our previous stay. The room was quiet, but offered a beautiful view of the bay from our deck. Our bed was so comfortable! I love that we are so close to the fun, we can just walk down the hill. But, I also loved that it was far enough away that we didn't hear any noise from Carnival while we were asleep. I felt really safe and secure with the coded entry. And I especially loved all the share and take goodies that had been left by previous guests! What a great idea! I actually had to borrow a bag to take to the beach, so it came in really handy. I'm already looking forward to our next visit!

Yelp
After a very unfortunate calamity of airline delays and re-routing, I was unable to make my hotel reservation. The current manager at the time was absolutely wonderful and told me that I could use the credit on a future trip to the island. Fast forward 2 years . . . I contact the hotel with the hopes of using this credit. Unfortunately for me, the past manager was gone and a new one was in place. The new manager, Susie, with which I corresponded, was both rude and very unprofessional. The previous manager had been kind in extending me an offer of credit. As was her option, the new manager chose not to honor this. I did not dispute this. What most disturbed me was the tone and manner in which I was treated. Although I have not stayed here, I would not recommend this hotel due to the current manager's treatment of a potential guest. Too bad the previous manager is gone. The new one could use a lesson in politeness and a large dose of Southern Hospitality! Cecily Jenkins Fort Smith, AR Unitied States

Yelp
I stayed at The Green Iguana for 1 night in March 2017. What a nice place. The owners were nice people and very accommodating. The room was pretty and clean with a nice view from the deck with comfy chairs. I like that the had stuff like beach toys, beach towels, book and umbrellas to borrow and return. They also arranged for cab service to the airport and ferry.

Yelp
My wife and I stayed at the Green Iguana for 3 nights in June, 2018; after a week of sailing in the BVI. The managers are SO nice and 'Texas' friendly. This is an older small hotel(and they were still under construction in part of the hotel), but our room was very clean and comfortable, and a great place to stay, so we could see a little more of St. Thomas before we returned to Texas. The USVI (St. Thomas) and the BVI are all still in recovery mode from the 2017 hurricanes, but the everyone we encountered including the managers of the Iguana were so friendly, accommodating and helpful. I would highly recommend the Green Iguana to anyone looking for a nice moderately priced hotel while staying in St. Thomas. I would stay there again.

Yelp
Great Friendly Little Hotel Gwen and John, the resident managers were friendly and very helpful. John gave us a lift down and back to The Green House Restaurant yesterday so we could get 2 for 1 drinks at happy hour. Hotel is clean and bright with spectacular sunset views of the harbor. It's not on the beach but the its almost in town so it is easy to get around. Frankly it was a real improvement on the Ritz Carleton we stayed at in Puerto Rico.

Yelp
We had a great stay at the Green Iguana Hotel. The service was great and the owners made sure our group had all we needed. They even took a picture of our group and made a post card of it and gave us all a copy. What a momento! The hotel is convenient to walking to downtown. The rooms were very comfortable. Highly recommend!!

Robert H.

Yelp
Great value made better by great management. John and Gwen made us feel like family. Yes, its an older hotel with older furniture- but the rooms were clean and well maintained. At prices less than 1/2 of the major resorts price v value received make the place a great buy, and worthy of 5 stars. I'd recommend highly.

Yelp
agreed with what she said, plus the shower was like little trickles of pee.... and too boot, the maid doesnt take out or refresh dirty glasses from the night before and it gives you a note to tip her. would look for much better places.

Yelp
What a wonderful experience it was staying at The Green Iguana Hotel! The proprietors, John and Gwen Pittman, could not have been more helpful and welcoming. They gave us a walking map and directions and lots of good advice. Here are all the things that we liked: (1) our room was pretty and spacious and clean, (2) our room had a covered balcony that was good for bird-watching or just gazing at the scenery, (3) the air-conditioning worked well, (4) there was a nice space outside for sitting around and reading or watching birds, (5) there were iguanas in the trees (Gwen showed me how to spot them), (6) we got a warm welcome and good advice from John and Gwen, (7) we were in a wonderful location near the Blackbeard Inn with historic buildings and tour guides (Gwen gave us discount coupons), (8) we were close to the 99 Steps and downtown, and (9) parking was available. We'd be happy to come back here again and highly recommend this place!
