7 Best Ski Resorts in Japan, Where Olympic Slopes Meet Traditional Onsens | Condé Nast Traveler

"The Green Leaf Niseko Village Under the same management umbrella as the nearby Hilton, the Green Leaf has a more intimate boutique feel with the same conveniences as the larger resort. Built for the Hokkaido winter slopes—the Green Leaf is ski-in and ski-out—but enjoyable all year round for the natural hot springs and its proximity to Niseko Village. Hand-drawn murals adorns the walls of the resort, created by contemporary artist Emi Shiratori, and guest rooms feature original artwork. Rooms also include kimono robes for the onsen, Eames furniture, and Shiseido toiletries. Guests can have après-ski cocktails in the lobby lounge, and a Japanese buffet at Goshiki, with more options available in the village (signing privileges extend to the Hilton restaurants and shuttle service is available). Head to Basecamp to rent ski equipment, arrange lessons, or hang out for a movie screening."

I stayed here for a 5 nights during my ski trip in Niseko, booked via Agoda and had a really enjoyable experience.||The room was clean, hot water ran perfectly, and the best part was the window view overlooking both the mountain and the village.||Complimentary shuttle service was very convenient—running to Hirafu Gondola, Niseko Village Gondola (Hilton), and even to JR Kutchan Station.||Facilities were great: vending machines for drinks and cup noodles on certain floors, plus a small grocery store near the lobby.||Ski facilities were excellent. The hotel is ski-in/ski-out with lockers for equipment, and we could buy ski passes on the spot. Since the resort isn’t connected to the main gondola, the lift lines were pleasantly short.||The onsen was another highlight—both indoor and outdoor, open from 2 PM until 9 AM. I especially loved going at midnight when it was empty, almost like a private onsen.||Breakfast had plenty of options, both Asian and Western, and the mountain view made it even more special.||Overall:|I really enjoyed my stay, found the hotel very convenient for skiing, and would happily return. Definitely recommended!

The rooms had a beautiful view but the heating was below average and when we went in the winter this meant we were usually colder than we would have liked. Hotel suggestion was to close the curtains, but then why pay for such a nice view if you need the curtains closed while you’re in the room? The breakfast on every occasion was a disaster. For such a big hotel, opening breakfast for such a short time was a joke. We waited 45 minutes for a table and when we finally sat down we found out they’d run out of most of the food, and cutlery! Over the 5 nights we stayed there we opted to get breakfast elsewhere even though we had paid for it for our stay. Lunch and dinner were not much better. The skii school was not very good, with several different people in our classes complaining of faulty rental equipment on seperate days. Even the instructors told us this was a problem and they’d had many complaints. But our requests to replace some of the equipment were denied; firstly they said they didn’t have any more replacements then they said they wouldn’t replace anything we had already accepted. The bar in the lobby was nice and cosy, with a warm fireplace. The location of the hotel was good, with access to skiing areas outside. There was also a paid lift option that would take you to Niseko-Yo village, which was a charming place with nice food options. A must visit especially as the hotel food was really not good. The outdoor Onsen was magnificent, and one of the highlights of the trip to Niseko, which brings their rating up in my eyes, but overall I wouldn’t return as it was so overpriced and stressful for what you got.

Perfect ski-in, ski-out resort for a couple. It had a great breakfast as well, and the room was super-comfortable. The onsen was small but very relaxing. The ski shop next door has the friendliest attendants and all the equipment you could need for a day on the Annapuri slopes. The lobby was comfortable with a gas stove and hot chocolate, and the four resorts in the same area all have a free shuttle that runs many times per day to the town of Hirafu and back, so you have plenty of options for shopping and restaurants nearby. Very nice place. We will return for sure!

Wanted to love it but just not worth the high price! When booking a place for $400/night I expected a much higher level of hotel. I understand the vibe of cozy ski cabin but this place was unfortunately just very dated and showing its age. Another reviewer wrote that the bathrooms were like airplane cabins and I think that’s the best description. The staff were all very nice and helpful! Yes the place is ski in/ski out which was a huge bonus, but there are many other resorts that offer this as well. The complimentary shuttle bus is a nice touch, but it can be infrequent. Taxis are quite pricy otherwise to get into town, and it is too far to walk. We had the breakfast buffet every day and it definitely offers something for everyone but nothing to write home about. It gets the job done. Lastly the physical key situation is quite annoying as they ask you to turn in the key every day before departing. I would recommend the hotel upgrades to a more modern system! Overall it is a nice spot but I think we would have enjoyed this place much more at a lower price tag. Just didn’t feel like we were getting our moneys worth.

Enjoyed a lovely stay at Green Leaf with our family of 5, where the staff were friendly and helpful. Liked the location and the shuttle buses made getting around a breeze. The ski-in, ski-out access was great with a gondola right outside the in-hotel rental/locker area. Breakfast was decent and had enough variety for starting the day. Our rooms were comfortable and clean, and we'd go back again!

We got the Green Leaf recommendation from a review on Cond Nast. For that reason, we expected more from the hotel. The room are tiny, specially if you are from outside Japan and you have some more luggage. We had to upgrade for a suite. The location is also an issue as there is almost no restaurant option on a walk distance. The breakfast deserve a special ZERO grade. Disorganize, really lack of any healthy food and no other option if you do not want to have it at the hotel. |The Ski School deserves a severe no recommendation. The guides are really young starting on the age o 18 and some of them are on the first season on the resort. I found out they have no training on the resort before start working as a ski guide. So they do not know the special spots, where to go or any other valuable information, as good places to have a coffee, to eat or good places get the powder snow everybody is looking for.

An amazing place for skiing holidays. The facility is really good and convenient. The hotel rooms are relatively of good size apt for couples, family and solo travelers. The restaurant is very good aswell with larger assortment of food for every body. The ski facility is brilliant. Any snow activity other than skiing, you will have book here but have to go to close to Hilton hotel via hotel transportation or cable car. Would I revisit this place? Yes!

We stayed at the Greenleaf Hotel in the Niseko Village and I thought it was a great place because it was easy to rent skis, store everything in a locker, and have ski in/ski out access to the mountain. The staff was very helpful. Room was comfortable, nothing fancy. The Onsen and spa were excellent and helped with sore muscles. The breakfast can be a bit of mayhem as it’s a big buffet with lots of people. I would not eat dinner there as it did not look appealing at all. |The hotel staff was very helpful with making restaurant reservations which seems very necessary in the busy season.

Yelp
Had a great time at this ski in/ ski out resort. Rooms were clean and basic, though I would have preferred Japanese style tatami rooms. Also a bit annoying to only have one key for each room, but you can leave it at the front desk if your roommates will be needing it at different times. They have lockers for each room where you can easily store your skis and snowboards. Equipment rental was easy as well. The onsen was clean and never more than a few people there when I went. There's an indoor and outdoor onsen. They provide soap and lotion, so no need to pack. Fresh kimonos each day. The buffet that came with the package was not bad. A bit similar for each day, but still okay. The bar was a bit pricey. Shuttle buses could have been a bit more frequent but there's a schedule you can use to plan- trips to Hirafu, Hilton, and Kutchan.
