7 Best Ski Resorts in Japan, Where Olympic Slopes Meet Traditional Onsens | Condé Nast Traveler

"Ski-in, ski-out convenience pairs with warm, plush rooms, a stunning in-house onsen and spa, and a well-regarded bar and restaurant—an easy favorite on the Niseko Village side." - Brent Rose

"The Green Leaf Niseko Village Under the same management umbrella as the nearby Hilton, the Green Leaf has a more intimate boutique feel with the same conveniences as the larger resort. Built for the Hokkaido winter slopes—the Green Leaf is ski-in and ski-out—but enjoyable all year round for the natural hot springs and its proximity to Niseko Village. Hand-drawn murals adorns the walls of the resort, created by contemporary artist Emi Shiratori, and guest rooms feature original artwork. Rooms also include kimono robes for the onsen, Eames furniture, and Shiseido toiletries. Guests can have après-ski cocktails in the lobby lounge, and a Japanese buffet at Goshiki, with more options available in the village (signing privileges extend to the Hilton restaurants and shuttle service is available). Head to Basecamp to rent ski equipment, arrange lessons, or hang out for a movie screening."

Had a great snow stay!! Rooms are clean and tidy, included breakfast had an amazing selection for all tastes. Lockers for ski and snowboard gear was easy to use and extremely convenient. The indoor/outdoor onsen was beautiful. Highly recommend booking your rental gear at the hotel. All staff were helpful and friendly, the great service was especially noticeable when it was busy. Location is good for getting to the different slopes and into Hirafu. I 100% would recommend to stay here.

The staff was excellent. Very kind, courteous and always did everything with a smile. The rooms are a bit dated, and do not reflect the Hilton brand. The bathrooms felt like they were from a cruise ship. The king bed was two twins put together. The TV had 3 channels, and did not have any smart tv capabilities. A lot of the hotel property looked like it had been modernized in the past decades. The onsen and the guest rooms could use a little love to earn the high lodging rate paid. All said, we had a fantastic stay, and will recommend Niseko to our friends! The fresh powder on the mountain and night skiing were highlights!

The Green Leaf has really improved since being bought by Hilton! Service is very good, now that they have an international staff, and their breakfast buffet has also improved! The chef was wonderful about providing vegetarian options for breakfast—I really liked the shakshuka, and the breakfast room views are lovely! The rooms are large by Japanese standards, though they have those airplane-style elevated plastic bathrooms the Japanese like. Anyway, we bathed in the onsen. The pillows and mattresses are thankfully western-style, not the rock-hard local standard. Though Niseko Village is not the best for intermediate to advanced skiers, and we went too early in the season to ski between resorts, I was grateful for the Niseko shuttle to go to Annupuri and the Hilton shuttle to go to Hirafu. My one complaint is that, when I arrived they were weirdly unable to find my skis that had been delivered to the hotel. When I walked into the storage room, I found them right away. Then when I checked out, I left the skis for the courier company, and when the courier came, the hotel claimed my skis were not there. I was almost charged for losing the skis! Luckily, the rental company was willing to go themselves, and when they walked into the storage room, they found the skis right away.

We enjoyed our stay at the Green Leaf. Yes the rooms are small but so are most Japanese hotel rooms . Good proximity for the slopes and we found the ski hire within the hotel, lockers and access to the slopes really excellent. Breakfast is pretty good , wide choice to suit most tastes . Regular bus to Hitafu if you want more restaurant choice / drinks etc. ski area is pretty limited I would say if you are used to Europe / Alps but fresh snow pretty much every day or other day compensates a bit. finally staff are super friendly and helpful

We stayed here last year and loved it so much that we decided to come back. Only upon check-in did we learn that the hotel is now managed by Hilton, a pleasant surprise. What was meant to be a three night stay quickly turned into five, as we decided to extend our time. The service was exceptional and made all the difference to our experience. While the hotel particularly the rooms, does feel a little dated and could benefit from refurbishment, the outstanding hospitality more than made up for it. It truly felt like a home away from home. A special thank you to Azwin-Ari, Eitan, Andreas, Kevin, Ali, Honda, Yuki, Davide, Wisnu and the rest of the wonderful team for making our stay so memorable. We shall return!

Google
Great for a ski in and ski out overpriced and outdated hotel. The rooms are very old with the newest thing in them being the bed sheets. Rooms only get cleaned every second day, and so they only stock enough coffee for two people for one day and a bottle of water each for one day. Rooms only definitely need heaps of love. The couch and carpet full of stains. The air conditioning rattles and the only heating is when the air conditioning is turned on, for some reason the radiator heater is switched off. The dinner buffet is greatly overpriced for the options and quality of good. Unless you are planning on spending the entire night in the restaurant grazing on food, the $80AUD is not really worth it. Luckily there is another overpriced a-la-cart menu to select from.

Our winter stay at Green Leaf Niseko Village was truly unforgettable. The room was cozy, spotless, and comfortable, with a stunning view of the ski resort — waking up to the snowy landscape felt like a dream. The peaceful atmosphere made our family getaway so relaxing and special. We are deeply grateful to all the staff for treating us like family. Special thanks to Ari Ferdauz, Eitan Eidelman, Honda, Executive Chef Andreas for their exceptional hospitality. A special thank you to Chef Ali and the wonderful woman chef (whose name we forgot!) for the delicious nasi goreng and mee goreng at breakfast — it truly made us feel at home. Sulaiman, Wisnu, Ardi and David for making our dining and lounge experiences so enjoyable and Yuka at the concierge for her helpful guidance. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for creating such a warm and memorable experience. We felt truly cared for and can’t wait to return.

Wrapping up three days in Niseko... and what a gift. A sincere thank you to the exceptional team at The Green Leaf Niseko Village, Tapestry Collection by Hilton for such warm hospitality. Special appreciation to Ari, Tarl, Pak Vishnu, Davide, and their entire team. You made our stay so memorable. Located at the base of Mount Niseko Annupuri with stunning views of Mount Yotei (the volcano behind me), The Green Leaf has been such a delightful experience thanks to this stellar team... even despite the fact that the ski season wasn't launched yet unfortunately. A pity of course, considering that you can walk straight out of the hotel onto the famed Niseko slopes! But no fret... we were able to drown our sorrows in the superb onsen pools. Will be back! Yelp
Had a great time at this ski in/ ski out resort. Rooms were clean and basic, though I would have preferred Japanese style tatami rooms. Also a bit annoying to only have one key for each room, but you can leave it at the front desk if your roommates will be needing it at different times. They have lockers for each room where you can easily store your skis and snowboards. Equipment rental was easy as well. The onsen was clean and never more than a few people there when I went. There's an indoor and outdoor onsen. They provide soap and lotion, so no need to pack. Fresh kimonos each day. The buffet that came with the package was not bad. A bit similar for each day, but still okay. The bar was a bit pricey. Shuttle buses could have been a bit more frequent but there's a schedule you can use to plan- trips to Hirafu, Hilton, and Kutchan.
