The Greenhouse Backpacker

I stayed here in a private room with shared bathroom. The room didn't feel clean, there was no daylight in my room and the lights switched off automatically after ~30 minutes. The hostel itself lacks a nice atmosphere; it's quiet and there is barely any decoration. On the upside, shared facilities were good: clean and no wait.

It is just a young hotel, do not expect too much. So many hair and pubic hair on the bed, the mattress quality not good, not comfortable to sleep. Very simple cut off room, you can clearly hear the people speak on outside, just a bed and a locker in the room. Very noisy all the day, even on the midnight. Dirty kitchen and bathroom. Good location anyway. Cheap price also

Quite average rooms/facilities as far as hostels go (no window in room, so always dark). Sink in bathroom was broken but other than that it seemed reasonably clean. I liked the common area/kitchen (where there's WiFi) and I was really impressed by the free meal they served Tuesday night! I only stayed two nights but they seem to put on other events and activities which is always a bonus. The location is also crazy good. All in all I'd recommend this hostel.

Not a very good hostel. The beds are clean and nice. The kitchen smells like vomit so not a nice environment to cook your food in. Ive been here for 3 nights now and almost every time I went to the bathroom i would have to wipe someones pee of the toilet seat to do my business. The staff is very friendly and will help with any problem you have. So over all a decent hostel location is so good, but hygiene is awful.

For the price it wasn't bad, the room we stayed in wasn't very nice and the beds weren't the most comfy. The shared bathrooms on my floor were nice tho. The complimentary breakfast in the morning is almost not worth it, the standard white bread and cereal. Location was very good

Booked a six share room, no issues. My mattress was awful but I was given a replacement the next morning after mentioning it to staff which was nice. Room was a little musty and you can hear the noise from the street but neither issue was too bad. Great location, very central with access to lots of tram lines. I would definitely stay again.

Our stay was not entirely enjoyable, we endured barely warm showers, patchy wifi access and limited communal facilities. The music was loud from the other room, only 2 power sockets in each room and the lights turn off every hour which became frustrating. This place is close to the city and the staff are welcoming but our stay was overall not enjoyable.

Room was pretty clean,good position, but very bad service, one person is telling you one thing and the other one the opposite. Looks liked they don't even know what they are doing. The girl in reception was not polite at all, nasty and cranky. Such a shame because a part from that would be a nice hostel where to stay. Toilet was disgusting.

This hostel will always hold a special place in my heart. It was my first hostel. Ever! BUNAC, our work/holiday visa provider, set us with the reservation here. We had no idea what we were doing, and I'm sooooo thankful that they placed us here. The hostel is nestled in THE best location in the city. It's just off the main drag, and a quick hop from Flinder's Train Station that will take you anywhere in and beyond Melbourne. The hostel itself is a standard fun and friendly place. Big kitchen, community bathrooms, clean rooms and corridors...all that. It's best assets are the free Wi-Fi and social rooms. Out of all of the hostels I had stayed in around Melbourne, this one seemed keep a consistent level of traveler diversity. What was even better was the genuine fellowship everyone felt for each other. There weren't many cliques at this place, which I think would be a done deal for any backpacker interested in staying longer than a week. The staff did an excellent job of making everyone feel secure, comfortable and united. This is the only hostel that I've stayed in 3 non-consequetive times. Overall the hostel's individual accommodations were average, but location and social experience were what kept me coming back. Thanks for everything Greenhouse!

I was only here for a short night, but from my experience, the only redeeming quality of this hostel is it's location, situated conveniently next to a police station. I found the staff to be less than welcoming. I was dissatisfied with the cleanliness of the room, however, this could have been due to being incorrectly placed in a room full of males. Sorry, boys.

Stayed here for a little under a week with a friend of mine. We stayed in a double room which, at first wasn't clean when we initially got there, but was later cleaned up by a very friendly lady who was quite pleasant to deal with. Sleep quality wasn't great because it felt like the walls of the room were made from paper, and even something like talking from the room next door was mumbling in ours. The location of this place is wonderful though, you are truly in the middle of everything and things like free breakfast, free wifi (did cut out a few times however) and daily events that they have organised are actually a great way to meet people and see bits of Melbourne.
