"Take a Ride on Fanciful Native Creatures The newest addition to The Rose Kennedy Greenway is a carousel featuring colorful animals, fish and insects native to the New England area. Inspired by the drawings of Boston school children, the fanciful creatures are the creation of local artist Jeff Briggs. The 36 seats are unique and make the ride one of the most accessible in the area for both young and old with physical or sensory disabilities. Watching the wings of the butterfly move gently to music ranging from Raffi to the Star Wars theme is sure to bring out the kid in all who visit."

Cool characters of excellent quality and maintenance. A choice for everyone, adults feel like a big kid, all smiling. Super affordable, only $4.00. Great location near aquarium and wharf, everything. Must do.

We walked the entire Greenway the day we arrived in Boston. Each park area is beautifully maintained and is clean for kiddos and dogs to run around. The Carousel was the destination point and it did not disappoint! It wasn’t very busy so the wait time wasn’t much at all. The animals were so pretty with many different ones for kiddos to choose from. I loved that the carousel didn’t spin quickly. It was a nice mellow pace and was really enjoyable. It’s one of my kiddo’s favorite things to do and she loved the Greenway Carousel.

This carousel was a delightful surprise! The whimsical carvings of birds, fish, and even a boat offered a variety of choices for riders. Plus, the comfortable seats and charming music made it a relaxing and enjoyable experience for all ages. Definitely a must-ride!

Google
'Favorite carousel ever' per our 7 year old. It has such cool animals that our kids love to choose between. The staff is nice and the operation runs really smoothly despite being consistently busy.

A really cool attraction with some fun and beautiful animal designs. Even if you do not go on the ride it is well worth walking around and appreciating the cool features and design of this carousel.

I didn't know there was a carousel next to the aquarium, but it really made the day trip. It wasn't too busy and the machine wasn't old or anything. Very pretty, well-kept figurines and mirrors. A little fun fact: they accept EBT, and that being said, the ticket is only $4 for a short ride. It might sound silly, but I definitely recommend you take a ride regardless of age just for the sake of nostalgia. The music they played was surprisingly pretty good. They tried to stay on theme with the spinning theme, so all the songs are kinda funny.

When me and my little Younglings just only ate out of my 16 kids because they were doing some special work for me while I was taking my youngest kids to Boston for a little bit of fun time you know Mommy and miners. So I decided to take them to the carousel because I feel like they’re not gonna be young forever and soon they’re gonna be little adults having grandchildren. So I bought them tickets and for I’ll eight of them to go. It was $32. And I think that’s a lot but I mean like memories are priceless. I’d say they were really good options to go on. I mean, like my daughter star went on a green butterfly and like my daughter not star but grass lost her shoe on it, but got it back because it was a little big for her because she’s just a tiny little being. My second youngest son nightmare had a blast and was singing Teen Titans music the entire time listening to Betty Davis eyes JoJo Siwa. If you have lots of minor and free time and money, then go here because I don’t know follow my page for more.

Google
Unique carousel and my kids really enjoyed it. Only 4 stars because it was super short. For $4 each I was hoping it would be a bit longer. 1.5 songs played while we were on it.

Yelp
The prettiest carousel! The staff at the ticket booth are really nice. $4 a ride and parents ride free for kids under 42 inches. I have never seen a carousel with such cute animals. This is also a newer one too so the seats are really new.

Yelp
If the carousel is open, then spring has officially arrived in Boston even if we just had a dusting of flurries last week. The carousel operates in a part of the city that used to have the ugly elevated roadway but now that they've spent a few billion dollars to put that underground, this wonderful greenway exists and one of the crown jewels is this beautiful carousel. Even if you don't have kids, it's nice to sit here and listen to them having fun on the ride. Way too much fun!

Zhe S.

Yelp
Severely understaffed. The same person operating the carousel is selling tickets. The carousel stops 10 min between each run.

Yelp
For $4, my friend and I each had an awesome 3.5 minute carousel ride on some of the cutest little animals you can ever ride. I can't even tell you the last time I was on a carousel but the weather was so beautiful, how could we not ride it? Fun for kids of all ages. For. Sure.

Yelp
My family and I have this rule that if we see a carousel, our kids have to go on it. This place was no exception. It's very cute, one of my favorite carousels in Boston so far. The animals are really eclectic (cat fish?) and it's beautifully done. If you're over a certain height, you can go on it yourself (there's a carrot for your kids to stand next to) and if not, an adult has to be there next to them (no charge for the adults), so it's a sweet way to see your kids smile. Tickets were $2 or $3 per kid? Very reasonable and the best part is for the adults (it's located in a scenic part of Boston!).

Yelp
Drive by all the time and have been looking forward to riding for a longtime. Such a cute carousal with unique hand made characters. I saw an interesting segment on Chronicle about the sculptor who is a MA native (Jeffrey Briggs). Love the uniqueness of this ride as it's not the typical horses carousel. At only $3/ride, it's a bargain!
google avatar

Margot D.

Yelp
I went back to my childhood this hot & steamy afternoon, all for $3. No calories involved, just good clean fun. After seeing the piece on "Chronicle" a couple of weeks ago about the opening of the Carousel, I knew I HAD to go for a ride. I chose the bunny (there are a couple of different bunnies), and off we went on our musical adventure. This is awesome, and you should go. Actually, you have no reason not to, seeing as it costs less than your coffee. Open daily through Halloween, then weekends through the end of the year (Google it for more details). You can even get 10 rides for $25 and ride 10 different nifty New England themed animals. Seriously wonderful.

Yelp
I was lucky enough to ride the Greenway Carousel on the 1st day it opened to the public. I've been watching the construction progress profiled on the TV show Chronicle & through updates on the Rose Kennedy Greenway Facebook page, so I was very excited to see it in person! The rides cost $3 for everyone over 42" (if you're under the height of the ticket counter, you can ride for free.) The carousel is also handicap accessible. If a member of your party will be riding that's in a wheelchair, just let the staff at the entrance know, and they'll load the person in the wheelchair on first, so they can properly set up the entrance ramp and secure the wheelchair before crowds of families swarm the ride. The figures on the carousel aren't your normal carousel figures - no horses in sight. Instead, they're figures of creatures found in New England. They asked school children what animals they'd like to see on the ride and ended up with lobsters, foxes, butterflies, a whale, a cricket, and lots of other fun "New England" animals. The ride is about 3 minutes, and I really enjoyed letting my inner child out for a few minutes and taking a ride.

Yelp
A carousel? In the middle of the city? Sure!!! On Tuesday, a bunch of us adult people had an awesome time riding the Greenway Carousel. We're all going weeeeeeee after the insane sugar rush that was going through our brains from Ghirardelli :) I ride a lobster. I'm a cancer so it fits lol. After everyone left, three of us went on again. #YOLO
google avatar

Alexandra M.

Yelp
SO FUN! It's $3, if you want to kill time and feel like a kid again, go here, and you'll have no regrets. They've got fun animals for you to ride, and I want to say that they're all New England animals...but I might have missed something like a unicorn...

Yelp
Beautiful and well-operated carousel. Lots of beautiful and different animals to ride on (lobster, anyone?). We make this a regular stop after our visits to the Aquarium.

Yelp
This is an absolutely beautiful and well cared for carousel! Not the usual suspects, it is filled with creatures from land, sea, and air - all beautifully lifelike, and bringing fantasy to life. The staff is pleasant and attentive. Carousels have been one of my favorite things since childhood. To have 3 generations of our family ride this extraordinary machine together on a recent trip was extra special!

Yelp
Super cute and clean carousel on the Greenway. For $3 hour hold can take a ride on an aquarium animal. So much cuter than the traditional ponies on carousel. You must be 42" tall to ride solo, but if you're shorter than that, you're free with an accompanying and paying adult. Say whaaaaa?! Nothing's ever free! Well, surprise surprise....and the 3 min ride (approx time) is def worth it to see the little ones light up with smiles!
google avatar

Jenny P.

Yelp
Well worth the $3.00 charge. You ride for about 3-4 minutes to a song. My kids loved it!
google avatar

Leah K.

Yelp
Such a beautiful, fun carousel. Even adults (25 of them, in my case) have a blast picking from riding a: skunk, owl, hawk, boat, lobster, rabbit, butterfly, or in my case, a fox! It's an absolutely magical carousel. With nearby landmarks such as Faniuel Hall, the Aquarium, the Greenway, Seaport, and South Station, it's a great spot to bring your family whether on vacation or after school.

Yelp
Have you ever wanted to revisit your childhood and all of its innocent and carefree glory? Well, that's all I wanted to embrace the other night and I found myself at the Greenway Carousel. This symbol of youth sits right outside Faneuil Hall on the Greenway, and it's hard to ignore its tempting calls to have you come ride it. A few of us obviously didn't resist, and we were so happy to have enjoyed the moment. The carousel has a forest and ocean animal theme to it, and each little critter is just as adorable as the next. We found it a bit difficult to choose which animal we wanted to partner with, so naturally, we rode the carousel twice. For only $3, it's hard to pass up the 3-5 minutes that you have to simply forget about everything and enjoy the bliss that is riding the Greenway Carousel. The most glorious thing about the carousel is that children and adults alike can be seen enjoying it each and every day. Whether the riders are 5 years apart in age or 50, the Greenway Carousel brings everyone together in a unified atmosphere of carelessness and euphoria. The Greenway Carousel is the most perfect escape, and I highly suggest you enjoy its beauty.

Yelp
I love this carousel! Whenever I have company we must go visit it so that I have an excuse to ride the Butterfly. The only reason I am not giving them 5 stars is that they were playing CCR during my ride (and anyone who knows me knows how I feel about CCR).

John S.

Yelp
Holy cow. We were so excited to go for a ride, my 2 year old and myself. The attendant was the meanest person I have ever met. She yelled at the man in line in front of us because she did not have change for a 20. And I got yelled at because I tried to pay with a 10. My only advice is to have exact change so she does not yell at you. Not that I cared, but for $6, we got 5 spins around. Oh well, I will chalk that one up to Boston hospitality at its worst!

Yelp
Come on? It's a carousel in a park! This one has whimsical animals to ride on. Last time I was o a fox next to my son who rode an owl. There are lobster, crickets, sea turtles and more. $3 a ride is reasonable for the time spent.
google avatar

Stephanie A.

Yelp
Beautiful carousel with a variety of animals to ride! The giant sea turtle and the squirrel were amongst my favorites! The kids loved it and and wanted to ride again and again. Great amusement at an affordable price of only 3$.
google avatar

Michelle V.

Yelp
For tourists with young kids, this carousel is definitely worth a stop. The design is non-traditional - instead of the usual circus horses, they'll be riding an owl, sea turtle, butterfly or rabbit painted like storybook illustrations. I understand these are all native animals, so it's a good opportunity to teach kids about local fauna. The location is super convenient to the Freedom Trail, the Aquarium or the Harborwalk, so it won't take you out of your way. It's not a huge time commitment and doesn't cost much. They also provide tables and chairs with umbrellas, to rest your weary feet. I imagine if I lived here and worked nearby, this would be a neat place to sit with lunch or coffee when the weather is nice. The carousel is part of the Rose Kennedy Greenway's many tourist-friendly features, which also include public art, gardens and water play areas for kids.

Yelp
We have been on this many times and love it! Fun characters... Beautiful. Great location. Cheap family fun!
google avatar

Loretta K.

Yelp
Completely unique; I've really never seen anything like it. The characters are works of art! From the humpback whale, barn owl, and grasshopper to the fox, squirrel, and butterflies there is a perfect choice for everyone. Each ride is only $3 and they accept cards which is awesome. The music didn't exactly fit with what I'd expect to hear on a carousel but it didn't take away from the fun. Ride was about average length and I definitely could have stayed on longer but when I get to ride on such gorgeous animals it doesn't matter to me. Fun for all ages; definitely stop by!

Yelp
An absolutely stunning carousel. My kids love the different animals and want to ride each one!

Yelp
This is a beautiful carousel conveniently located on the greenway near Faneuil Hall and the North End. Easy to get to by T or on foot. It is a must-see attraction if you are in Boston with kids. It also turns out to be a fabulous place for a birthday party. We had my daughter's 5th here and it was amazing. The kids got unlimited rides for 90 minutes and they had the time of their lives. I don't think I have ever seen my child's smile bigger or brighter. The staff was also amazing - helped us set up for a party of about 50 people, guided the kids, were super friendly. They have nice tables and chairs and umbrellas set apart a bit - perfect for a party. I honestly think this has to be the best birthday spot in Boston for any little kid. It was a gorgeous sunny day so afterward everyone played in the sprinklers and then went to Mamma Anna's. A perfect day!
