I love going to shows at the Grey Eagle. There is plenty of free parking around. The staff is pleasant, the bathroom is very clean and stocked, and the bar is quick and happy to answer questions. I have seen so many great acts here, Alex Cameron, The Cactus Blossoms, and Chuck Ragan to name a few. I never have a problem getting super close to the stage for a good view. The sound crew do an excellent job. The music comes first, always!! I'd be insane to skip a show at the Grey Eagle.

Google
I came here for my first burlesque brunch! It was sooooo much fun!! We got there about 30 min before start time to get some food. The brunch tacos were heaven! I ended up getting two lol. And then the show was just spectacular. A great MC, sexy performances and just good vibes all around. I cannot wait to come back to see another show when I’m back in Asheville!

Google
Super small venue, little pizza spot attached is great, sound is awesome. Coming here from Denver and Vegas before that I have wildly different expectations but the venue, and more importantly the crowds, are wonderful out here!! Can’t wait to come back for many more shows, already have some tickets booked. Video I took is from The Dirty Nil Jan 2025

Google
Great venue for live music and events. A friend and his band were playing an early evening show on the patio and it was a great spot. There was an event immediately after, and we were pretty quickly ushered out to make room, which was fine, but the attitude of a few of the staff could have been a bit kinder about it.

Google
Really good venue for shows. A little something for everyone; food, outside, bar, music hall. Definitely coming back

Google
Love going to shows at The Grey Eagle. It's the perfect combination of quality and edge. I also like the taco truck, and I've even been to a conference here and it was very well done. The best part is after a show, you can mill about this awesome neighborhood, which has the best bars and nightlife in Asheville (the River Arts District or "RAD"). See a show here!

Google
Simply put, this venue was the best ever. The staff is exceptional. They went above and beyond to be as accommodating as possible for my wife and I because of our health issues. They truly made this night incredible! The stage and seating/standing room is small, which just makes the experience more intimate and amazing. There is a Taqueria inside which makes some of the most amazing, authentic food I've ever had. I would have seriously driven from Spartanburg South Carolina just to eat here! I know that I will be coming back as often as I can! I'd very highly recommend that if you want to have a magical night out with excellent food and music from the best staff around, you've got to come here!

Google
I’ve lost count of how many nights I’ve spent at The Grey Eagle—dozens, maybe hundreds—and every single one reminds me why it’s my favorite room in Asheville. The talent buyers are absolute wizards: again and again I catch a band here, only to watch them pack out the Orange Peel or Salvage Station on their next pass through town. If you love discovering music before everyone else claims it, this is your spot. What sets The Grey Eagle apart isn’t just the ear‑to‑the‑ground booking. It’s the way the place feels built for people who actually listen. The room is intimate enough that the smallest nuance in a singer’s voice lands, yet the sound system can still rattle your ribs when the amps crank up. Crowds here come to hear, not to chatter, and the staff keeps everything running smooth without ever killing the vibe. They’re also relentless champions of local artists and up‑and‑coming touring acts—exactly the kind of voices that too many venues have squeezed out. On any given week you can catch a hometown record‑release show, a buzzy indie outfit on their first big run, or a genre‑bending bill you never knew you needed. Add in a laid‑back bar stocked with local drafts and the taqueria in the back (seriously, grab a taco between sets) and you’ve got the perfect night out. In short: if you’re a music lover who craves discovery, community, and consistently stellar shows, The Grey Eagle is the best game in town—full stop. Asheville is lucky to have it, and so am I.

Yelp
Super awesome venue for live music. Acoustics are always incredible and the beer selection is fantastic. Standing room only, unless outside (picnic tables) and near the bar. Limited parking, but street parking is available. The tacos are to die for, and don't forget to start out with empanadas! Staff is always smiling and friendly.

Yelp
When I'm in Asheville, I always check to see who is here. On my last trip, The Wildmans eerr playing, so I knew I had to go. The venue is small, the sound system is great, and the lineup is usually someone I want to see

Yelp
The vibes here were cool but the concert experience I had here last week was not great. The sound was kinda terrible. Speakers were cranked up so high that the music didn't come out too great. You could barely understand what the artists were saying. I already know the main acts songs so ofc I recognized the words but I had no clue what the opener was singing. Also the stage set up sucks. The floor is completely level and the stage is not very high. Ceiling is low. I've never attended a concert with that kind of set up before. Every other place I've been to has had a slanted floor. The set up is a nightmare if you're short and are not in the front row of the crowd. I'm 5'5 and it was really hard to see the band. A breaker blew mid set and cut the power to the band's mics. Not sure why that happened. Luckily they got it fixed fairly quickly The outside looks awesome- I loved the mural. And the workers got us into the concert quickly. Barely a line at all so that was nice. I had fun at the concert but I'm not a fan of going to the Grey Eagle for any sort of live music. If an artist I like is set to play there again in the future, I probably won't go

Yelp
It was my first time at this venue seeing John Splithoff and I would totally come back! It's super cozy with nice lighting and memorabilia! The bar and sitting area is open and connected to the stage area so it's easy to grab a drink and return to the show! Excellent service and welcoming, friendly people. I didn't want to leave! :)

Yelp
Food is macking. Every show is awesome and it gets better every time I come back. Staff rocks, venue is phenomenal and the environment is never disappointing. Friendly vibes everywhere.

Yelp
This is a great venue to watch stand up comedy and live music. Even though we sat at the back of the hall, we could see fairly well and we could hear every word. The attached taqueria had great food, and check in was efficient when we arrived.
google avatar

Emily S.

Yelp
We had so much fun seeing a 90s cover band here. It's a fun little venue. We didn't try any of the food but the drinks were fine.

George F.

Yelp
Cool place. Good music, decent food, and good people...Parking sucks arse! I will be walking from Charlotte next time...

Yelp
Went to a general admission event after buying tickets in advance. They overbooked the event. No staff offered assistance. The venue is tiny. Ruined an event I was looking forward to. If you choose to go there, show up early and prepare to fend for yourself. Better off skipping this venue.

Yelp
Came here for a little social distancing show, ended up going back for their frozen slushy margaritas. The price is a little steep but holy me oh my, those things are tasty. So tasty we may have had a leeeettle too much fun. Lucky it was a small show with plenty of room between tables to social distance with just your pod. Needing something to soak up our drinks, we ordered a round of nachos and those were equally satisfying. We opted for chicken? Maybe it was pork? Not sure but it was good and didn't hang around very long. Seems like they have a pretty good line up for outdoor shows, the crowd seemed happy to participate is COVID recommendations, hopefully the show can go on!

Yelp
Great small venue! Saw Byrds of a Feather here in December. Excellent service, everyone was friendly, and the show was great!

Yelp
I adore everything about the Grey Eagle. The taqueria at lunch is my go to at least once a month, the pastor tacos are so good! I've seen some of the best music of my life there, and now they're doing free afternoon concerts on the patio! This spot is such a gem, I'm lucky to live in town that the Grey Eagle is in.
google avatar

Yelp
Great tacos! This place is very close to my current job and they are open for lunch so I can grab a quick taco. The tacos are surprisingly authentic tasting with two corn tortillas and Valentina hot sauce. Prices are very decent for the amount of food you're given. I ordered a chorizo taco, a big bowl of rice and beans, and a D9 draft for $15. No complaints here! Unfortunately I have not yet visited at night for their live music, but the venue is HUGE and looks like it can fit at least 100 people. They have a full liquor bar and both draft and canned beers. I'll have to take a trip here at night for a show sometime soon.
google avatar

Steve S.

Yelp
The food is awful, and they have a one-drink-per-person policy so you can't get a drink for your partner. It's too small for decent-sized shows as well. When this place goes under, I'll enjoy my favorite bands at the Orange Peel.
google avatar

Abigail T.

Yelp
I was here for a concert and arrived almost an hr early so there were no parking issues! The food was great and the drinks were standard. The surrounding area is very safe, highly recommend visiting!

Yelp
I love the Grey Eagle! This venue is located pretty close to downtown in the River Arts District. It is a real funky space that just screams "ASHEVILLE." It has awesome decorations including photographs of musicians, a vintage-looking checkered floor, hanging star lanterns and murals. The outside area has picnic tables and hanging lights. This venue consistently brings in great musical acts including local and otherwise. The space is not huge but has plenty of room to dance around and is a bit more low key than some other venues. There is also a taqueria and bar here for mouth pleasures!
google avatar

Adriane P.

Yelp
What a great intimate space for hearing and seeing bands - inside and out! Can't wait to go again. Love the causal vibe. Don't go changing! Tacos are very delicious too!

Yelp
Amazing venue. Great vibes and atmosphere. Loved the patio- so quaint and intimate for a show. We saw the Pink Beds who were awesome!! All the staff was very nice and helpful. I posted pictures on my social media and everyone from home was asking where this place was and wishing there was something like this by us! We had a wonderful night at this fantastic music venue!
google avatar

Yelp
Nice venue for local music and the food good and healthy choices. Saw Sunny Sweeny and a number of local musicians and sound was good.

Yelp
Great small Music CLUB-- for live music enjoyment! If you have never been here before --you may pass by it as we found it by the name of the band on the marquee Saw Joywave with my daughter and we were able to be 4-5 rows from the stage .. great part is ----my ears were not blown out ! Reasonable loudness level!!! Answers to simple questions : Yes there is food ! There is a taco bar you can order from. I didn't eat there so I can comment on that. Yes there is beer, cider and wine! There is a simple bar but it works! You can also sit in the "dining area " and watch the bands on TV'S at the bar Yes you can hangout side ! There is an outdoor section to sit smoke and even play cornhole Music section is mainly standing room only with a few side seats plus the dining area seats. Also there is a good chance you will be able to meet the band members since it is so small! I would definitely go again for the right show!

Yelp
Had a blast at three Grey Eagle last night watching Matthew Sweet live! The venue is no-frills, but not lacking in necessities. Also, they serve tacos here! Come for a show, leave with a full belly! I heard a great time & would return without hesitation if another favorite musician of mine is booked.
google avatar

Annamaria B.

Yelp
This was a cool spot to check out for a show. Unfortunately we just ate but I heard they have some awesome tacos. I liked the setting. It's more intimate so you really connect with the music playing. You're not so far back squinting and trying to see their faces. They have a nice outdoor patio with good ambience as well. The staff was so friendly. All in all I really enjoyed it here.

Yelp
I visited The Grey Eagle on Easter weekend to catch a showing of Hedwig & the Angry Inch. Parking is tight, but I was able to find something on the street not too far away. Not only was it a cool venue with great sound, but the Grey Eagle Taquiera has some great food options. I ordered the Avocado a la Plancha & enjoyed the hell out of it. It even got approving looks from others, which was cute. I like to call that the Fajita Factor - no matter what you order, you're gonna stare at the Fajita sizzling its way to that lucky person's table. Once the show got underway, I found the space to be roomy & have great acoustics. I would highly recommend The Grey Eagle for a show &/or a solid meal.

Yelp
Has classic Latin food in Venezuelan form. But.. Also vegetarian versions of Tacos al Pastor???!!!???? Really? Great salsas and arepas are fantastic. In the great Aville music venue...The Grey Eagle Get the fiambre ...a kale salad...as a side.
google avatar

Yelp
During my detox I was super careful with what I was eating. The Grey Eagle has options for everyone! Very vegan friendly but also have great meat options. A very nice selection of beverages to choose from. I tried the lentil chorizo taco, it wasn't very chorizo-like in my opinion but it was good. The steak tacos were very good and the meat portion was huge! The salsa also was very good. I'd like to check them out for a show sometime.

Yelp
Great Venue. Friendly staff. Clean bathrooms. Sound system is very good without any dead spots. Not any bad seats in a 300 seat facility.

Daria G.

Yelp
Very accommodating. Fantastic sound system. Great music on an intimate setting. Every show has been awesome.
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic grammy winning artist in for an intimate but still ROCKING show and meet and greet. Unexpectedly good, healthy hip food, adequate bar, free parking, clean and a good number of stalls. Great clientele. So what that it was a worn building? Super functional, emphasis on FUN! 5 stars. Haters can go elsewhere.
google avatar

Yelp
Loved the tacos. My husband tried the spinach salad with Mahi & said it was great. Plenty of taps. Check this place out near the River Arts district.

Yelp
So much fun here. Went to see three comedians with a group of friends. We went early to have dinner before the show (and find parking). Good decision. Everyone enjoyed their food choices (shrimp tacos, nachos, plantains, etc). I had bean nachos without the red pickled onions (which everyone else raved about - not my thing), guacamole, and a beer on tap. The nachos were different from the usual flat plate with melted cheese. Served in a paper boat with lots of black beans and melted white cheddar, topped with jalapeños, salsa, and cilantro, it was hot and delicious. When the doors opened for general seating, we made our way to chairs up front to laugh for hours.

Yelp
An Asheville live music institution with amazing staff make for one of my very favorite venues to see live music! I've seen some legendary artists along side outstanding up-in-coming musicians. The talent this place pulls is almost unbelievable but in a town where live music venues come and go with the blink of an eye...the TGE staff and ownership have a designed recipe for successfully booking amazing talent into the small space. Shows range anywhere from Jazz, Blues, Hip-Hop, Funk, Rock, Metal, Americana, Indie, Reggae, Folk and anything/everything in between. Staff is attentive and always quick with a cold brew, mixed drink, or shot of choice. The venue itself has excellent sound for a small room and the large outdoor patio make it easy to catch some fresh air and/or conversations with friends. Food at the Taqueria is fresh, traditional-style fare, and prepared with locally sourced ingredients. Counter service allows for easy ordering for groups that may not show up at the same exact moment. I find it refreshing to grab a beer at the bar then hang out at a table while waiting on friends rather than the whole tourist town, "all members of your party must be present"...before being seated, which I understand, but I also avoid these places if we are meeting folks from out of town. Menu offers gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options. Try the Fiambre salad with mahi mahi and the Plantanos Maduros with the cheerwine habanero aioli!!!! My personal jam! River Arts District has limited dining options in general(especially for lunch) and this is the ONLY(for now) place serving latin american cuisine in the neighborhood which is almost unheard of in Asheville's completely over saturated "taco market" on the westside and up the hill in downtown.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
Think I've been spoiled by the venues in Charlotte and Carrboro. The Grey Eagle is fine, but let's be real. No one goes to a show for the event space. The small space and the low ceilings make me feel like this place has to be a fire hazard during sold out shows. To end this review on a high note: the dude taking tickets stamped my wrist instead of my hand, so I could wash my hands without losing my stamp. Genius.
google avatar

Carolyn L.

Yelp
We came upon this place because the line at Whiteduck was crazy long and after planning our day around going there for lunch, I had quite the taco craving. Being of the tourist variety, I was admittedly a bit sketched out and confused by the location of this place, but my taco hankering had grown quite strong by this point so we plugged through our initial apprehension. And, I am quite glad we did. There is absolutely nothing fancy or nice about this place, just really delicious food. Like a good yelper, I scanned through the reviews before ordering and saw that the kale salad was strong so we ordered and agree that it was super delicious. I should have ordered that topped by the tempeh asada and called it a day, but hey, it's Asheville and were on vacay so we got chips and salsa as well as 2 tacos, one with the tempeh and one with lentil chorizo, which BTW, is such a good idea. Need to replicate at home on some banging vegan nachos! Yum! The fillings were both tasty and the corn tortillas were delicious. Only slight disappointment was I wish there was a bit more textural variation on the filling such as a pickle or slaw, but I am splitting hairs here. Husband had the burrito which was also divine and had a bit more of that texture variation I was missing in mine. Other positives included tasty beers on draft (I got a taste of home with Foothills Sexual Chocolate), fair prices, and tasty homemade taco condiments. I can't promise we will resist the allure of Whiteduck next time we are in Asheville, but there is a definite possibility. I mean, I guess we have to try the arepas, which I hear are quite good.

Yelp
Wow...I have never been treated so rudely before. Walk in at 7pm. "Are you guys here for show?" "No, we're just here to grab some tacos." "Well the show starts at 8 so we'll ask you to leave if you don't have tickets." "Okay that's fine " "So don't linger, okay? Get the hell out when you're done." I'll get the hell out now. Thanks. We did walk into the bar area briefly. Not greeted or offered a menu..a fellow customer gave us her menu but the place smelled like cat piss. Will never return. Can I make this negative stars?
google avatar

Arthur V.

Yelp
Great venue, good food, reasonably priced drinks, friendly service. Will definitely return.
google avatar

Kris G.

Yelp
Rude staff and rude patrons. The bartender had a snotty attitude when he found out I was paying by card. Your patron literally grabbed the barstool out of my grasp and scolded me for trying to sit down on a "reserved seat." How were we supposed to know? Any other bar would have roped them off or placed a sign. So my group finished our drinks with a view of the toilets. These guys are trying to sell people the "laid back" cool vibe but are actually rude and insincere.
google avatar

Amy H.

Yelp
My husband and i saw the Pokey Lafarge show here and the show itself was awesome - great sound! I did like the venue for the most part, but it was packed and stuffy - I think the low ceilings lend to this. People were trying to dance, but there wasn't much room. Also, for short ppl, there's no slope and no raised areas to get a good vantage, so you probably won't be able to see the show, but like all short ppl, we are used to this by now! ;) I wanted to try the tacos, but that part was closed by the time the show was over.
google avatar

Jeff B.

Yelp
My oldest son and I caught the Reignwolf show a couple months ago and loved it. Being there for sound check and meeting the performers is pretty darn cool.
google avatar

Emily P.

Yelp
Enjoyed Southern Culture on the Skids here---nice big, clean venue. When we left everyone's ears were ringing though. I slept a few hours, woke up, and my ears were still ringing. I like the venue, but it was too loud for all of those with my group.
google avatar

Brett S.

Yelp
I had what is known as a "rice" "bowl " and the old lady had some tacos or something she's asleep so I can't ask but we liked to taste .
google avatar

Carol P.

Yelp
We sat outside with our two pups and it was perfect!! The tacos were delicious! The carne asada taco and chips n guac is where it's at!! We were there today (Saturday) from 1-2pm and were the only ones outside.
google avatar

Rosco L.

Yelp
Great music, great food! The cauliflower taco with the pickled red cabbage is my favorite! During lunch hours you can get a taco, side and drink for $6. Definitely worth stopping by
google avatar

Yelp
The Orange Peel garners the headlines, but the Grey Eagle is the real gem of the Asheville music scene. They get a terrific lineup of musicians, and unlike other venues in Asheville every show does not feature a jam band noodling away for 15 minutes every song. The sound is very good and there's some separation between the music hall area and the bar so the sound of bottles clanking doesn't interrupt your enjoyment of the show too much. There's also a little courtyard if you want to smoke or want to get away from the music. Their beer selection is terrific (from PBR to Pisgah Pale) and the wait/bar-staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Make sure to check out the artist photos on the wall by the bathroom--some great stuff there. They also have some decent food if you can't get a bite anywhere else before the show.
google avatar

Justin P.

Yelp
The Grey Eagle tavern is my favorite spot around downtown Asheville to watch live music. The place is spacious inside and out. Also, there is decent parking in the lot or on the street, as the Grey Eagle is not surrounded by other buildings. You don't have to worry about parking meters or pay-structures as you do in other parts of the city. The stage is nice and there is a lot of open audience room. They have a 610 standing room capacity! You can stand, you can sit, you can lean against a wall. Unlike other places, you aren't running into people entering the establishment while you try to enjoy live music, nor do you have to contend with customers who aren't interested in the show. There is an entire room of tables and the bar that is away from the stage. The Grey Eagle also has a great calendar. It seems there is also some diverse musical act or dancing event taking place. Indeed, 'Contra' dancing takes place on a weekly basis. Another plus, the tavern is non-smoking! You can smoke on the semi-spacious outdoor patio if you must, but a nonsmoker like me doesn't have to worry about absolutely reeking just to enjoy a local band. Food and drink selection is good! No complaints!
google avatar

Yelp
This is a great little venue! It's not as widely known as some other Asheville venues, but it is definitely just as good. The atmosphere is great. They have a large bar with an excellent beer selection (as they should, it being Asheville and all), and some pretty tasty food. There's also a nice patio out back, which is really nice when you need to step out to cool off and give your ringing ears a break. I like that this is a smaller venue, but it is still spacious enough to feel comfortable in. I had to dock a star for the bar service. My friend and were the only ones waiting for a drink at the bar, and all three bartenders were standing right there in front of us bullshitting with each other. They looked at us several times but made zero effort to serve us. After two minutes of this, I had to call them out on the bs to get served. Luckily, we were drinking some pretty high gravity beer, so we didn't have to deal with them very often. Location and atmosphere: Great! Service: Sucks! I don't want to slam them too hard for poor staff, because this is an awesome little venue. I guess I should have expected to have to deal with some pretentious hipsters, considering I was in Asheville. Regardless, this is a cool spot to see good shows, and I'm sure I'll be back again.
google avatar

Kipper S.

Yelp
The Grey Eagle is honestly my favorite venue in Asheville. It's hard to describe what makes this place so perfect, so I think I'll simply mention the elements that make me adore it. First off, the sound here is absolutely gorgeous. The system is so incredibly well dialed in. The speakers won't blow you away with an ungodly barrage of sound. What you get instead is some of the most true to life amplification that fills the main room with a beautiful and full sound. Next up, Tacos! The Grey Eagle has a taqueria! Formerly Tacos Con Quida, now the Grey Eagle Taqueria, whatever you call it it's great having food at a venue. You can even grab delicious tacos, burritos, and arepas when there's no shows going on. The selection of beer is on point, and the bartenders may be some of the most efficient and pleasant tenders I've ever dealt with at a live music venue. What's also very pleasant is that the bar/restaurant area is extremely well illuminated while the main room is dimmed to maintain focus on the stage. Finally, the acts that the Grey Eagle books are all worth noting. Even if you're not familiar with a band or musician, it's a safe bet that if they're playing at the Grey Eagle they're better than the average bear. Pro tip: Mondays the Grey Eagle hosts a weekly contra dance night. Not my thing, but maybe it's yours!

Yelp
Love The Grey Eagle! Great little music venue. Food is pretty good, prices are fair. Decent beer selection. Like that some of their shows are seated shows. Fun place!

Allison J.

Yelp
Great venue for live music but this review is for the food. Although I don't want it to become overrun with tourists, I do need to boast on this hidden gem The Taqueria is located inside the Grey Eagle. The food was delicious. Portions are big. Service is friendly and quick. Reasonable prices. And there is plenty of outdoor seating. Husband and I both had burritos and man were they big. We both took half home. I had the street corn which was some of the best I've had. We also had chips (maybe homemade? regardless they were good), salsa and guacamole. Yum! We will definitely be back.

Steve D.

Yelp
Cool spot, and they obviously get some great acts to play there, but... There's a Mexican restaurant attached to the music venue. We saw an acoustic act there, and the noise from the food establishment was REALLY distracting. I can't believe they don't pull a curtain or something. We're sitting there trying to listen to some incredible music, but it's constantly interrupted by dishes clanging around and employees loudly chatting. Inexcusable for a music hall.
