Wonderful service. We got invited in by the owner and hostess. They treated us well and the food was really good. I got the gumbo and it was pretty for Vermont and I love going to New Orleans. Im glad we stopped by.

This place in Burlington is a real find! It has a cozy yet upscale vibe, making it suitable for any occasion. The menu offers classic American dishes with a modern twist, and each dish is flavorful. I had the braised beef I can't remember the full name, and it was perfectly cooked—smooth outside and tender inside. The cocktail selection is impressive; the Labrador Retriever I ordered was one of the best I've had recently. The staff were attentive and friendly, which made for a great experience. If you're in Burlington and want a memorable meal, The Gryphon should be on your list.

Had dinner. Interesting place, great bar was seats and a modest # of tables. Limited menu but good variety. Great cocktail list. Greta was our server, she was great. Old fashioned was delicious. The bread w maple butter is a must have. I had the burger. It was really good. Also had a side salad, which made feel less guilty for the burger. Good atmosphere, good service, good food. Give Gryphon a try, strong recommend

I came here on a Wednesday evening around 630pm without a reservation. I was seated right away and the server was very cordial. I ordered the Tokki drink, Caesar salad, and the Prime Rib with a side of fries. The salad was a bit vinegary for my taste but the dressing was light and refreshing. I enjoyed everything I ordered and will consider coming here again in the future.

Google
Had a nice (Canadian) Thanksgiving dinner with the family here tonight. The food and portion size were quite stunning 😍! Started out with the Vinyard Chowder, and it was fabulous. Delicate seafood flavor with loads of seafood in there. Definitely recommend. For main, can't go wrong with big rib eye. The thickness of the steak was beyond my amazement. Worth every penny! For the end, I had a delicate chocolate mouse. It wasn't overly sweet, which is key in this type of dish. All in all, I would be back here when in the area!

Google
Wonderful Atmosphere. The old bar, high decorated ceilings, and decorations were beautiful. You can picture the old days of socializing while enjoying a modern feel and views of main Street and the park. We had a quick seafood chowder lunch with bread as an appetizer. All we delicious and the bread was perfectly cooked and a nice side of sweet butter. Service was great and attentive.

Google
The Gryphon was absolutely amazing! We had the seafood grits and seafood chowder and both were excellent. I had the persephone for a cocktail and it was delicious. My husband had the Czech pilsner and he enjoyed that a well. Brandon was our server and bartender, he was absolutely amazing and super sweet. The interior was amazing, the old design was still intact. We really enjoyed our visit to the Gryphon and will be back next time we visit. Highly recommend!

I am happy to share that my experience was superlative!! Angel, Liam, and Caroline were fantastic with their hospitality. The libations were fantastic and I can’t praise the smoked salmon Benedict enough. I will be back and cannot give a higher recommendation. Thank y’all so much for making this solo traveler feel welcome!!❤️

Yelp
what a lovely little place!! we were drawn because of the plaque on the side talking about the big US figures that had been there, and it was so worth it! a cute little bar/restaurant vibe that seemed very nice while still being homey. our server was so so sweet and bubbly. one whole star came from my father asking if they had creamy horseradish (just like normal horseradish, not sure if it's usually chunkier/not as creamy in new england since we are from CA). they didn't, but the chef literally offered to make my dad his own creamy horseradish. he made it for him with heavy cream and according to my father it was perfect and delicious. nobody has ever offered to MAKE a new sauce for us. AMAZING service. the vineyard chowder was SO good... i was looking for a nice new england clam chowder, and what i found was even better! it was clear it was high quality and still delish. the warm crab dip was very yummy as well, bread was a little crispy for me. the prime rib was also very good. i would've liked if it had come with more au jus. the cake for dessert was super yummy as well, but the raspberry was too tart. i also just am not a raspberry fan but it seemed VERY tart. overall the food was delish just a few personal preference issues, but it's all just me so i didn't dock any points. the service was amazing. honestly just the entirety of burlington was absolutely lovely. such kind and welcoming people!

Yelp
Service and food were both spectacular! We've been twice and both meals were delicious. The Seafood Grits appetizer was amazing, as were the Seared Scallops. My friend had the Caesar Salad and Fresh Fettuccine and raved about both. We've decided to make this our birthday dinner restaurant of choice. We'll be back often.

Yelp
I waited years to get in to this place during leaf season & finally when I got to try was sorry I did. Overrated Over priced Food was mediocre at best & the staff was the worst part. Took 15 min just to get water No one said welcome or even how are you tonight Literally I only write positive reviews for the most part but this place was so awful I had to share my experience. The inside is nice, pretty wood finishing & ceiling but the chairs are shit, my ass is killing me.

Nicholas G.

Yelp
The food was incredible and the service was fantastic! The fish and chips was delicious and they had many gf options. Loved the interior and music and lighting.

Claudia V.

Yelp
Such a beautiful place! The staff are all friendly and attentive. The food and drinks are phenomenal! Highly recommend.

Yelp
We went to see a comedy show at The Flynn with some friends in December and ended up eating dinner here before the show. The service was a little on the slow side but it was packed, so totally understandable. The drinks were really good and the food was incredibly good. It's on the smaller side so not a ton of tables but it has a nice vibe to it. We really enjoyed it and will definitely go back.

Patti C.

Yelp
Good service and lots of food the soups are well seasoned and hot. The French onion soup has lots of melted cheese on a large crostini and lots of onions the butternut squash has maple whipped cream on top juicy burgers and nice side salad prom rob a bit dry temperature in dining room very warm so layer clothing

Danielle L.

Yelp
I had a chance to visit the Gryphon in the summer. It had a lovely, historic and quaint atmosphere. We were seated quickly and the server was very nice. We went in for lunch and ordered a bunch of appetizers, all of which were delicious!! I would definitely be excited to try the rest of the menu! All our food came out hot or cold as needed and in a timely fashion. I would definitely like to go back!

Yelp
Great dinner spot, especially before a show at the Flynn. Good food and drinks. Nice ambiance.

Jacquelyn J.

Yelp
Stopped by for a Mom and Daughter dinner while visiting UVM. The bartender waa attentive and friendly. The food was delicious. Wonderful place for a dream nk or bite to eat with good friends and family.

Gaby H.

Yelp
Although the ambience and price point of this restaurant is more upscale, it was a bit lackluster. We expected more for $20-$50 per plate. I ordered the roasted half chicken with Brussel sprouts and fingerling potatoes. The dark meat was good but the white meat was very dry, even with the gravy provided. My boyfriend ordered the French Dip that came with fries. The French dip was delicious but the fries were very similar to that of McDonald's. We are big fans of McDonald's fries, don't get us wrong, but crazy to think these are $8 if you order a la carte. You will likely need reservations as this is not the biggest establishment. However, we were lucky to have been seated quickly at one of their two walk-in two-tops.

Kathleen M.

Yelp
Love the Gryphon! The food is always great! Wonderful cocktails and service is always friendly and accommodating.

Jason J.

Yelp
Pretty cool and neat bar / restaurant with great environment for a formal meal or just a celebration with friends. I enjoyed the place. Kid friendly environment and seamless service. Would definitely go back for the Prime Rib.

Ravon H.

Yelp
Nice little spot for a dining experience. In town for work and this was walking distance from the hotel I was staying at. We see the reviews so my coworkers and I decided to come for Monday night dinner. We called ahead a made a reservation for 6:30 pm. When we arrived we saw just how small and packed it was. It's about the size of a small bar with only 6-7 tables. I would not recommend for very large groups of more than 4 people. The waiter was very nice and accommodating. Using the company card for food only and personal card for alcohol was not a problem for him to do. Drive were brought out quickly. We had some duck wings for an appetizer. They were good and it was my first time I had them. They were a little more gamey but taste like chicken. For my main course my co worker and I ordered the last two cuts of prime rib. Man it was a huge portion. I could not even finish it off even after sharing with some of my friends who wanted a taste. One of my friend got the salmon that also looked delicious. I had a cocktail that looks good but I wasn't a fan. It was their seasonal signature drink that had cocoa in it but I can't remember the name. Over all a good experience and I would try again.

Jen

Yelp
My partner and I went in for dinner recently. There were 2 folks working. A girl (who i can only assume is the manager by her bossy, rather unpleasant demeanor) and her boyfriend (by the way he kept calling her "babe" and going up to her from behind). While the food was great, it was a distraction. We tried to order cocktails from him and he didn't seem to know what we were talking about, so we just ordered beers. We were hoping to see Liam, but we were told he wasn't working that night. Shame.

T J.

Yelp
This was a great meal, with personalized service and ambience to boot. Vineyard chowder was full of seafood and a polite quantity of potatoes. I sampled my friends roast chicken; herb flavored and tasty. My fettuccini was loaded with morsels of asparagus, mushrooms, and shallots. Solid wine options and well portioned cocktails mixed by a bartender who knew what he was doing. Leaf Peepers - give it a try. You will not be disappointed.

Yoanna V.

Yelp
Family of 4 for Mother's Day brunch. Review - we were seated right away and had a reservation for a couch seat because it was fully booked - there were empty tables when we arrived and when we left and I was told that they would let me know if there was an actual table available as our kids are 5 and 7. We were waited on by Liam The food was fine. Cooks did a great job. We ordered bloody Mary's and I had to add Tabasco and salad and pepper for flavor. It was kind of bland. We were not asked how it was. Our food came out in a timely manor. We got French toast, breakfast sandwich and two Benedict's with greens on the side. The greens were undressed and no ask of dressing. We were going to ask for dressing but were never checked on. After we received our food we didn't see the waiter the entire time until he brought our check and asked us if we"we were slowing down" When our food was clearly gone. When it was time to pay they expected and suggested tip on the total and not pre-taxed amount. Again the food was good but it was not a great experience.

Emma H.

Yelp
This was a great spot for a quick lunch on a wintry Sunday. We had a later reservation, but arrived early so we were able to sit at the bar. It was a bit of a squeeze, but comfortable. The service was good, although they seemed quite harried so we did wait a while for drinks and ordering but it was a nice atmosphere. The French onion soup was absolutely perfect, and the French dip sandwich was also good. I'd definitely return but would wait for a table next time.

Sandy B.

Yelp
Great food, service and ambiance - good drinks and food was fantastic We had a fantastic time Will come back!!!!

Don Leroy B.

Yelp
Was overseeing some equipment installation and popped in for a meal and a beverage, and boy am I glad I did! Wonderful people serving delicious food and tasty cocktails. I'm not visiting this area very often, but wow, I can't wait to come back!

Jennifer I.

Yelp
The Gryphon doesn't have *the* most exciting menu, but their food is very good: fresh, well-sourced ingredients, excellent, consistent preparation. The servers are always warmly friendly and efficient. We return because we can always count on having a good meal in a pleasant environment.

Danielle V.

Yelp
Cute restaurant right in downtown Burlington. Went for dinner while on vacation and was impressed. We got the shrimp, seafood grits and my only complaint was that the lobster was frozen, but coming from Maine I am very picky about my lobster. The shrimp were amazing though super juicy and fresh. The ceaser salad was great as well. We spilt a bottle of wine and the wine prices were priced well. We sat at the bar and the bar tender was so nice and super quick. He even wrote out some places we should check out next as we have never been to Burlington before. The ambiance was also really nice and the inside was very pretty. I would come here for dinner often if I lived here!

Paul B.

Yelp
We ordered the seafood chowder & biscuits with gravy. Both were delicious. You'll regret it if you don't order the chowder! Service was great & so was the vibe! I would've rated this place five stars EXCEPT there's a "non-cash adjustment tax". It's not clearly outlined anywhere, and I don't appreciate surprises at the end of a meal.

Paul L.

Yelp
Enjoyed all aspects of my experience: service, food, ambience. The greatest concern during the evening was the search for adequate parking in that area. Thank you.

Xenia M.

Yelp
I had a great dining experience at The Gryphon. It was packed on a Saturday evening, but I was able to score a seat on one of the couches. My server was sweet and had lots of great recommendations. I started with a raspberry mule cocktail which was very tasty, the spicy rigatoni with shrimp, and had the cheesecake for dessert. I felt the entree was on the smaller side but it had great flavor. Overall, very nice place to eat in Burlington.

Patrick C.

Yelp
Great food, the service was wonderful. I had the fettuccine with shrimp and my wife enjoyed the salmon. We started with vegetable spring rolls and ended the evening with cheesecake and flourless chocolate cake. We will be back soon! Absolutely great restaurant.

Bryan M.

Yelp
Food was delicious and service was top notch. Our server, Angel was very nice and helpful for my elderly parents. We will definitely return when we visit Burlington in the future!

Bonnie R.

Yelp
I had high hopes for this family owned business in Burlington but I left underwhelmed and a little bitter. The good: The ambiance is quaint, unique and warm The restaurant was quiet and tranquil The hostess was friendly and prompt in seating me The bad: The waitress didn't know answers to basic questions about the menu: In asking how the salmon was cooked, my waitress told me med-rare to med. I clarified that I was referring to the style of cooking (i.e., blackened, grilled, broiled) and she didn't know nor did she offer to ask. This happened with a few questions I had. The menu was limited, there were no specials & food was bland Food took too long to be delivered (22 mins between ordering and receiving appetizer) I had the lavender lemonade, which was delicious. I ordered the baked cheese as an appetizer and had high hopes, but there was far too much garlic butter added, so the feta lost its distinctness. The baguettes were over toasted. The Caesar salad was not at all meaningful: the lettuce wasn't crisp, dressing wasn't unique (and there was too much of it) and chicken lacked flavor and was a bit over cooked Overall, I felt the cost of this meal ($65 with tip) did not reflect the quality of food and service I received, and I left regretting my choice and surprised my experience seemed to differ so much from other Yelpers'.

Tess W.

Yelp
Cute place on the inside and nice staff but some of the food was a hit or miss. The garden salad was amazing with thin radishes and crisp lettuce and homemade dressing. I got the blue cheese one with salmon and it was cooked to melt in my mouth. The bread and whipped butter we got as a side was also good. When I got the starter grits that's when it went downhill. No seasoning and lacked so much salt. When asking family how their pasta was they liked it but needed more seasoning. The main meals needed just seasoning overall and for the price of almost 200 bucks I don't think it was worth it unfortunately. More of appetizer cocktail bar where entrees seem to be forgotten.

Roadwarriorinheels Z.

Yelp
Ehh. The service was great. Cocktails were solid. The food was less than impressive. Bland and lacking. Loved the ambiance of the place but left hungry.

Micah K.

Yelp
On a quick swing through Vermont, I stopped in for a quick brunch. I was seated at the bar very quickly even though it was clear the restaurant was SEVERELY understaffed. The two people working the FOH were clearly doing everything they could to keep things moving. When it was my turn to order, I took this into account and put in my complete order so that the bartender didn't have to come back. The French Onion Soup was amazing! I enjoyed it so much that I had a hard time waiting for it to cool properly on a few bites. The Gryphon Burger was great if not a tad bit rich. The flavors were great but were right on the line of overwhelming the burger itself. They got it just right. A very cute and classy place for a great brunch/lunch. I only hope they find a few people to help the staff out.

Adam N.

Yelp
Stopped in twice during our visit to Burlington. Once for drinks and once for dinner. The cocktails were excellent both times. The atmosphere is warm and cozy. The service was pleasant and attentive both times. I ordered a burger and my wife got a French dip. The French dip was particularly delicious. I also HIGHLY recommend their spicy pimento cheese dip. It was excellent. Will absolutely be back!

Ann M.

Yelp
Wonderful risotto! Great service, tasty food. Steps from the Theater. Will definitely come back soon!

Tori C.

Yelp
the gryphon is an upscale, swanky place. going in i had high expectations due to the vibe of the place and that it is a lounge. i am uncertain of how to rate this place fairly, because while the food was good, the service left a lot to be desired. we came in at 5 pm so there were no other patrons until later in our dinner (some of the other patrons were my extended family sitting at another table). unfortunately the waitress that was taking care of us was condescending while appearing to be polite and making thinly veiled comments to my family. they were not making unreasonable asks or even treating her a certain way - i am the first to call out my family for wrongdoings - she just didn't seem to like us and acted accordingly. we were not dressed in cool clothes since we had been traveling so maybe we just didn't fit the normal clientele? still i have never been treated this way, and while i tend to give waitstaff leeway the restaurant was not busy and her attitude was simply undesirable. i hate to base my review off of service and not food - because the food was good! but burlington has so many restaurants and servers that are happy to take care of you. i would be wary of the gryphon.

Jessica C.

Yelp
Beautiful old interiors, lots of gorgeous wood. Food is respectable, as is the service. Short walk to the Flynn.

K M.

Yelp
Service was great, food was very good, adorable place. Everyone enjoyed the dishes, wine was good also.

Jamie N.

Yelp
Great food and great service! Wonderful pre-show meal if you are heading to the Flynn!

Grace W.

Yelp
the food has always been good, and i appreciate how knowledgeable the waitstaff are when it comes to the menu and drinks. i love the atmosphere and i feel like im walking into an old english library and it's so sweet to have different seating options. i only wish it was a little brighter in some spots just cause im like lowkey blind.

Jesse H.

Yelp
Very good food and excellent drinks with fast and friendly service. Not very crowded for lunch!

Eric J.

Yelp
This turned out to be a really great experience! We tried a couple other places in town, but the wait was quite long. The Gryphon was able to get us in with a super minimal wait! We were greeted promptly and informed that the service might be slower due to minimal staff. Which looking around, everyone seemed to be enjoying their food so it's likely worth it. NAILED IT!!!!! We opted for the Sesame Tuna and Duck Quesadillas to start. Well, that was also an EXCELLENT decision as they were both extraordinary!!! For the main dish I had the Roasted Beets Salad with Chicken. This is kinda a go to for me, and this was in the top two I've ever had!!! Was it #1!?!?!? The VT goat cheese on the salad was top notch as well! Our server was Cora, and she absolutely knocked it out of the park!!! The place was packed and she did a fantastic job of juggling the entire restaurant with her sidekick! You seriously need to check out the Gryphon! We could all use a little more patience in life, and I'm more than happy to apply it for mouth watering food! Great job Gryphon and Cora! We thank you!

Emily R.

Yelp
We stopped in for lunch and a drink and were very pleasantly surprised! The food was excellent. Prices are a bit high but they give you a ton of food per order. We honestly could have shared one sandwich, it's that big. Ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and the French dip. Both were awesome but the French dip was out of this world--super juicy and flavorful. Our bartender was awesome too. She looked up a drink recipe so she could make it correctly for my partner, and it was delicious. Good Amari selection! I had an allagash white on draft, always delicious. The bar itself was a cool space and not super busy for a lunch hour. Overall I would definitely recommend this place for lunch or dinner.

Lenora K.

Yelp
Wow wow wow this was bad. We walk in and ask if they do dirty martinis. Hostess said yes I assumed she would have said yes if I asked if they served Mcdonalds because they in fact do not do dirty martinis. We sit at the bar to check it out and the bartender who was kind ignored us for 10 minutes. Finally we ordered and she took another 15 min to make 2 drinks, said they had a beer they didnt and we waited longer and finally she gave me a NON dirty martini that tasted like pure water. Pure water. Needless to say we closed out and left. What a disappointment

Jordan B.

Yelp
Not going to lie. When I came here...I had low expectations. Nobody had an open table that weekend, and most places that 'look like a pub' cook the crap out of everything and assume you drank so much you could care less. The meal here over delivered. Wasn't fancy, but it was cooked right. Can't ask for more than that often. My Dad loved it. Brings it up on the phone occasionally still. As a food nerd, I was pleasantly surprised and I look forward to bringing my Dad back again the next time he's in town.

Gabby C.

Yelp
The food and drinks at The Gryphon are absolutely delicious! We tried the Fresh Fettuccine, Veggie Spring Rolls, and Duck Quesadilla which were all great and tasted fresh. The atmosphere is upscale but not unapproachable. The drinks did take a very long time to come out however, but when they arrived they were very good. Perhaps just place your second drink order when you're 1/4 through your first drink and you'll be golden.

Seana M.

Yelp
Easter dinner was delicious! I had the salmon and polenta and it was perfect. The cocktails were creative and really good

Sherry M.

Yelp
Very cute and sexy restaurant! Food was really good! It's in a historical building, which was really neat to see

Carmela M.

Yelp
Still one of my favorite restaurants. Great food all the time. Excellent service. Really cool ambiance.

Barbara H.

Yelp
My husband rate the eight out of 10 the food could be a little bit better but the service and the place was beautiful

Timothy E.

Yelp
We went to the Gryphon as a Saturday afternoon date. The ambiance is gorgeous as it occupies an historic hotel. The place was pretty empty but we were day drinking. We had martinis that were made well and the staff were very welcoming and helpful. The warm crab dip was well seasoned and prepared. All in all, we can't wait to return for the dinner menu.
