We had dinner at the Brasserie at the Guesthouse this past sunday, sad to say, the meal fell short of expectations in every regard.
Starting off with the pumpkin soup (w/o the smoked trout crostini), the flavor was overpowering on paprika to the point that one could hardly tell that the base was pumpkin. The consistency was also too thin and unlike any pumpkin soup I've had before.
For main course we ordered the pumpkin ravioli (pumpkin crazy) and the veal stew.
Firstly the veal stew - not only did the taste not quite live up to expectations in any regard, there was also barely any meat to be found in the soup. My dining companion reminisced on middle school cafeteria food in scotland when having the stew..
The pumpkin ravioli was watery and overcooked, with blanched apple bits scattered all around the dish. None of the ingredients worked together creating a salty/sweet mess.
The saving grace was the St. Laurant red wine, which tasted quite nice and was priced well.
For a EUR100+ meal this was unacceptable as a whole. For a hotel restaurant the ambience is quite nice, unfortunately the food is near in-edible.
