On the Grid : The Guild Shop

"Quality, gently used goods fill the shelves of The Guild Shop. Sign up for their newsletter, they take consignments and donations on a schedule which ensures they can manage what goods are coming in. It was opened in 1962 by the Sewing Group of the Church of St. John the Divine, and is almost entirely run by volunteers. Proceeds go to assist the elderly in need, giving large donations to their beneficiary—St. James House, the Episcopal Diocesan retirement home, and many other humanitarian charities. See something you love, but it is more than you'd like to spend? Take a risk, and check the tag for the next set drop date. Just remember, it's for a good cause and there might be someone else doing the same thing." - Curiosity and Curiosities

My first time going today!! Such a neat place, can’t wait to go back. My daughter is getting married & I found a cute bride & groom figuring

Google
Extremely rude staff. I’ve never experienced such unprofessional behavior. Instead of a simple, respectful request, they chose to be condescending and confrontational over something as minor as walking into an unmarked, unlocked room. There’s no excuse for treating customers like they’re stupid. On top of that, the prices are absurd for what’s being offered. Definitely won’t be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone expecting basic decency or value.

Google
The folks working here are rude. We were here the 5/9/25 around 11am and the lady at the jewelry counter was something. She did not seem to want to help and was curt and disengaged. Correct me if I am mistaken but isn’t this place mainly staffed by volunteers? I’ve experienced rudeness lately each time I was so here and please don’t volunteer if you don’t have the attitude of service. We went to the Blue Bird right after and the atmosphere there was refreshing. The ladies there were so welcoming and pleasant. Please do better, The Guild. A smile and a pleasant attitude goes a long way. Take a break if you are overwhelmed but your customers don’t need to be subjected to rudeness and made to feel unwelcome or that you are doing us a favor by volunteering.

I went for the 1st time and there is so many amazing items! I was so happy to find decorations for my new house. Affordable too! The cashiers were very friendly and focused on the customers. I wanted to mention to the people complaining about the strollers, the customers don’t even have shopping carts to shop there so why do you all feel entitled to bring in a stroller? All the isles are extremely narrow any stroller wouldn’t even fit much anywhere in the tiny store. As you’re walking you can barely walk next to someone since it’s so narrow. Thank you The Guild for making an enjoyable experience to customers by creating this well defined policy.

Google
Love the Guild! Great finds and lots to peruse. Also, if you try on clothing, the lovely customers will gladly give you their opinion and feedback. Such a fun community and positive folks.

Google
In search of another store, passed this shop which looked interesting. Parking lot was full. Store is quite large with so many items like jewelry, clothing, household goods, plus a consignment area. To some, it's simply fascinating.

Montrose Street parking and adjacent private lot Here you complete with dealers. There is Art I have seen at galleries double and triple. There also jewellery, vinyl clothing and furniture and everything betwixt. The budget time you will need it

Google
I have been a shopper as well as a consigner for 15+ years. You can find amazing treasures here for sure. You should check them out the next time you are in Houston!

Yelp
Always worth a look! The staff are so friendly and don't forget to take a look at the jewelry!!

Yelp
I have used the Guild shop for consignments several times previously. Sales have been poor. I took some Men's suits to the consignment on 7/20/24. The associate told me suits are NOT accepted. So I looked at their "do not take" items. It clearly states "suits without the pants." I had the PANTS!! I was told it is because all suits have been altered. My response was "that's why you have a dressing room!" Very poor decision on their part so I am dressing them down!

Yelp
I always come is to buy jewelry. They have some of the nicest pieces. One of the ladies asked if I needed help or just looking. I told her I was just looking. She complimented my outfit and told me they had some really good prices on tops. I found a beautiful necklace, then walked over to the tops. I found a cute dress to wear around the house, really cute top and I love the necklace. The last beautiful brooch I bought here, someone asked for it. I didn't want to give it up because I loved it. I did so because people have given me their beautiful jewelry after I complimented them on it. This is a really neat shop when you look around. Ten stars.

Yelp
The guild, once a fantastic thrift shop, has transformed into a place filled with angry and rude individuals more focused on being right than on providing helpful service. Customers are faced with a plethora of consignment rules that seem excessive. Save yourself the trouble: consign and shop elsewhere--you'll be much happier for it.

Yelp
To anyone with a child who would like to shop in here, be aware of their much lacking customer service and hospitality. My toddler was well behaved, quietly sitting strapped in his stroller and I was very rudely told to leave by a mean old lady employee and then actually escorted out by who I assumed was a security guard as if I was a criminal? Gives a really bad representation of a Christian organization and I am super flabbergasted at the experience. Their loss I guess as I was about to purchase one of their most expensive articles of clothing, ($100+, this place has more boutique pricing) won't be back for it. :(

Yelp
I love the staff at Guild Shop. They are all volunteers but such a pleasant people. I had consigned few house items and received couple of checks .. great place to consigned and buy

Yelp
Great place with amazing treasures, incredibly kind and helpful volunteers, and super low prices for the quality of the merchandise. I love their system of decreasing the price as time passes-it's always a gamble to wait, but sometimes the perfect item sticks around at rock bottom prices.

Alice Elaine W.

Yelp
Great place to shop when you're looking for something different at a discount. I found was a gold charm to go on my bracelet existing bracelet by James Avery. I paid half of what it cost originally. Depending on what you are shopping for I would rate them a 8 out of 10.

Yelp
Love thrifting at The Guild. Amazing jewelry, clothes, furniture! Love The Guild and the volunteers there are so helpful and pleasant!

Yelp
PARKING: There is a parking lot across the street. When we came (on a Saturday), it was monitored by a security guard to ensure parking only for Guild shoppers. CROWDS: It was pretty crowded on a Saturday. If you can, I recommend stopping by during the week. Just remember, they close early (330PM). They're closed Sundays. This is a fairly large thrift/consignment shop with a solid selection. Home decor, furniture, art, kitchenware, clothing, jewelry, etc. They have an interesting pricing system: each tag notes multiple prices by date. Several dates are listed i.e. if the item doesn't sell by a particular date, the price drops. I bought a couple things that were discounted. The shop is staffed by volunteers.

Melissa L.

Yelp
I found some decent items, though they were a bit overpriced. Unfortunately, I'm giving only 2 stars because, on both of my visits, two different staff members at the cash register were extremely rude.

Charles A.

Yelp
Very well stocked thrift store. Good off street parking. Lots of friendly staff. We spent a lot of time checking every section out, but didn't find anything that worked this time. Fitting room worked well for our needs. Some bargains but also some on higher end (as in international goods or vintage items).

Yelp
The service is amazing and im in love with this place and it's product. I will totally be back for more things. Parking is comfortable too. I had a lot of fun shopping here.

Yelp
I came to just to drop off some donations. The guys who were taking the donations were super busy but they were still very friendly. I saw some really great end tables and coffee tables someone had just dropped off. They looked brand new. The parking can be a little challenging. I saw 2 different lots that were both full. There was a lot of people arriving when I was there. As I continue to purge stuff from my house I will be making more stops here.

Kimberly M.

Yelp
Excellent selection from accessories and clothing to furniture and decor, and plenty in between. The Guild has amazing jewelry and couture clothing including fancy brand shoes ranging from $6 to $100 to the ones behind the locked glass case. There are cool rare finds in their furniture and decor section. There's art, vintage furniture, lamps, mirrors, vintage suitcases, one-of-a-kind pieces. Nice rugs, random deer head (see pic), groovy rotating chairs (see pic). I could go on and on. Yes, it's that great. Take your out-of-town visitors. Just go check it out for yourself.
google avatar

John G.

Yelp
These guys have a nice racquet going on with "Security" watching unsuspecting restaurant diners parking at the restaurant across the street. It's very easy to think you are parking in the restaurant parking lot since it's attached to the restaurant. Pretty sure he is getting kick backs from the towing company and easily towing 10-20 cars a day. Nice little pay day for mr security guard. Expected better out of a Christian association.
google avatar

Darian H.

Yelp
Do not go here. They're rude and seem racist. Unsuspecting people will think the parking is for the cafe across the street because the lot is attached to the cafe and the "will tow" signs are faded. Put a large sticker that ruins your windows and feel nothing about it. A simple envelope with the violation will do the same Job. If your policy is "you'll tow" then stick to that otherwise you'll face penalties from people. This place is not even that popular to tow and do this stuff the way it is. Also to the man who took pictures of my car and plate, we have pictures of yours as well. Mind your business next time.
google avatar

Laura A.

Yelp
Lots of variety. If you are looking for something a little different to decorate your home, check this place out.
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
The Good news is their prices are better than Goodwill! Cheap Cheap! The negatives are: The "Regulars" remove tickets and the staff won't replace them and if your stuff is put on the top shelf, no one knows they are there or too high to reach and the price goes to nothing! They should at least blow up the font so it could read 6 feet away!

Yelp
I Stumbled in this hidden gem on a neighborhood walk. Then have volunteered here. This is an amazing shop that serves both the community & consigner. Affiliated with St. John. Which I started attending. Wonderful church & great store. Everything from furniture, art, jewelry, clothing, & designer. You can donate or consign. I love the people who work & sho here. Highly recommend!!!

Yelp
I absolutely love resale shopping. I have been coming here for years. This past Friday, I decided to pop in for a quick look. I saw a parking spot outside the fence by the exit gate of the parking lot off of Dunlavy. I pulled up, stopped directly next to the spot, had my reverse lights on, and was waiting for a break in the street traffic to back in to the space(don't usually back in to spots, but it would be easier to leave when pulling directly onto Dunlavy). We'll, this small pickup zips up and pulls in!!! I was furious. I waited the man to exit the truck and confronted him. He said he hadn't seen me waiting for the spot(and I was right in front of it!!). I called him a name and sacked if he was going to move. He, "too bad"and walked inside the Guild. When I went in, lo and behold, has putting on an apron! He is one of the volunteers!! His name is Jim!! He may look like a kind little man, but, he is a big a$$hole in my books!!!!
google avatar

Christa S.

Yelp
This place has been my go to for about 10 years now. I absolutely love everything about it. You can buy anything from quirky to super fancy. The pricing system goes down several times a month, so if you have your eye on some thing just look at the date on the tag and see when the best price will be available. You can call and get items over the phone now. You can also drop off donations, and do consignments. I really love all of the people that work here as well. They are volunteers, so be sure to be kind.

Yelp
Such a great shop!! I always find something unique and cool!! The inventory changes all the time, so I go often. Great housewares, clothes and jewelry!!

Yelp
Are you kidding me!??? How is it that I've never heard of this place! The Guild Shop was recommended to me by a friend because I was looking for a rug post Harvey. I had no idea what I was in for. Walking in there were swarms fancy ladies walking in. Okay, clearly they know how to save a buck! This is a consignment shop on steroids. I honestly think you can find anything your heart desires here. Clothing, furniture, kitchenware, outdoor furnitures, games, art, toys, purses, jewelry, everything, Just as any resale shop sometimes you will find stuff you love while others you won't, but the good thing is come back tomorrow and you may find your gem. I did find a rug! A Pottery Barn rug to be precise! And at such good deal!!! Also, don't forget you can sell or give your items to the Guild Shop. Stop in, you never know what you will find. Taken from their website, the Guild Shop provides financial support to: We proudly serve the elderly in need in our LOCAL community. All proceeds from our store are helping to make lives of neighbors better.

Yelp
I've been consigning clothing, jewelry, furniture, art, and household goods at The Guild Shop for at least five years. Vera, who handles designer clothing, is my primary contact. From our first phone conversation, I felt like I was in good hands as she guided me through the consignment process. Vera is warm, gracious, helpful, and very knowledgeable about designer lines and garment quality. She has an eye for detail, and she is also diplomatic if she's unable to sell an item. She goes above and beyond to make consigning easy for me, and she always makes me feel appreciated for bringing my things to The Guild Shop. I have consigned at other places where the take-in was frosty, where I never received any follow-up, or worse, no payment for my items. I have never had a bad experience at The Guild Shop. Additionally, my hat goes off to all the volunteer staff who seem to work tirelessly to make the place hum. I feel thankful that my items generate revenue for the charity-- and for me. I appreciate their high standards and professionalism. This place is a gem!

Yelp
A top tier resale/consignment shop. Every time I walk in there, I find things I never knew I needed! They have a great selection of jewelry, glass wear and dishes, furniture, and art. They also have name brand clothing, furs, shoes, etc. Check them out!
google avatar

Stephanie Q.

Yelp
Lots of stuff. Cool stuff the prices go down and it tells you when and how much. I thought that was cool
google avatar

Jo Mam A.

Yelp
This place has some nice things: but, the prices are just as nice. Their hours are not great. More conducive to someone without a job. I will probably check them out again. But, if I forget; I won't be heartbroken.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice place! I was really impressed. Lots of items here that stem from patio furniture all the way to fine crystal. Well organized and staff was very friendly and willing to help. Had lots of Jewelry when you first walk in and then clothes area. Many paintings available to view and furniture that goes with it. There were some strange items that caught my eye that I decided to put in photographs. Patio furniture was very minimal but it could have been due to people buying it all up since fall is coming. Only reason for the four star is the parking. What a mess. Very unorganized and such a pain. Lots of space in back but they had it closed off for some reason. It was bad enough to where I almost didn't stop and moved on. Overall prices are bit high but you can bargain a little bit. Check this spot out for sure. You never know what you might find.
google avatar

Yelp
I love consigning and shopping here. It's such a pleasant place to spend some time exploring and finding hidden treasures. I recently consigned some designer clothes with Vera, she was very knowledgeable and helpful in the process. Love this neighborhood staple!
google avatar

Billy R.

Yelp
Wow they sure are proud of their things in here. Everything extremely over priced. I don't mind paying retail sometimes if it's a piece I really really want however there is no need to pay three and four times what retail should be on items in the store
google avatar

Laura R.

Yelp
Great shop full of amazing new and old stuff! I could spend so much money in here! Can't wait to go back.

Maritza G.

Yelp
They have great things, so many options however! The parking situation is crazy! They have so much parking and as I'm checking out, my car was getting repo! And I was shopping inside!!!!! The security is crazy! So make sure your car doesn't get towed as you're shopping! The security guy even greeted me and opened the door for me so he clearly saw me. Would not shop here because of the parking!
google avatar

Brittany S.

Yelp
Fancy dancy jewelry. Ceramic pottery for your porch. High end furniture that needs a little love. Clothing. China. Aunt Nancy's Japanese artwork from the 60s. You'll find it all here. The price tags are on the higher end but for the most part you're paying for higher end items. For example, a big ceramic pot will run you $40 or you might pay $300 for a chair that needs reupholstered. It all depends on what you're looking for and if you have the time and dinero to give these items some extra love. I was most impressed by the chair section, in case you were wondering.
google avatar

Elsa L.

Yelp
Love going here!! Employees are so kind and always offer me nice words. There is a always a great collection and good things to check out!!

Pete L.

Yelp
Careful here. While they do have no parking signs the security guard is damaging vehicles that park in there lot next to the restaurant who miss the signs. Towing is reasonable but not the damage.

Cynthia B.

Yelp
If you have designer clothes and purses to consign, you should call Vera who will talk to you with a fair assessment and suggested resale for your clothes. Remember we are talking resale prices! I was surprised at the nice check I received once my items sold and will certainly do it again...thanks Vera ...you were a really great help! Love this shop!
google avatar

Yelp
The Guild Shop is my husband's idea of utter hell but I think it is fun and like getting cash for stuff I don't use anymore. Plus, I've found some great costume jewelry there over the years. Like at any establishment, there are certain little tips that can enhance your experience at The Guild which I am happy to share: 1. DO NOT, repeat DO NOT EVER go here on a Saturday if you can help it. The store gets very crowded and you'll have to take a ticket to look at their jewelry (not so on other days). This is the most popular area and you can be stuck waiting a looooong time if you get behind people who seemingly want to try on every single cloisonné brooch. However, if you have no choice but to go on a Saturday, do expect lots of shoppers and try to go near opening/closing times. 2. Prior to dropping off consignments, download their consignment form and have it all filled out. Go ahead and put sticky tags with your Guild number on your item. Have your items on the clear hangers they prefer. If you do all this beforehand, you can be in and out in 5 minutes unless you get the cranky red headed lady from the UK who volunteers at the Take-In Counter. She is always bitching at consignors about something or another so avoid her. 3. In addition to their rockin' jewelry department, The Guild often has nice ladies shoes. They are pretty picky about only displaying shoes in good condition and sometimes it is worthwhile to get a pair that has already been broken in. 4. Check the price tag closely since they use a racheting down system meaning that the longer an item has been there, the cheaper it gets. You will be astonished at how inexpensive some things can be (eg. $6 for a Dana Buchman blouse in perfect condition).

Yelp
The Guild Shop is a special place filled with treasures and warm and friendly volunteers/staff. Their mission of serving the elderly in need warms my heart.
google avatar

Reginald B.

Yelp
Have been going there for years, best of place to find treasures. Was there one day when Martha Stewart was there, she obviously knows where the finds are.
google avatar

Daniel D.

Yelp
Really well organized and good flow. The store was extremely clean. The pricing structure is neat too, where the price drops the longer the item is in the store.
google avatar

Paige G.

Yelp
I love the Guild Shop because it offers new items every day and it's the best place for a treasure hunt! The staff is wonderful and so helpful- especially Maria! They have the best bargains of fine quality items , it is resale at its best!
google avatar

Yelp
If I make it to heaven, I hope there is a consignment shop like The Guild when I get there. This place is absolutely what dreams are made of. I cannot think of anything I would rather do than wander around and pick through other people's unwanted treasures and find unique and funky items to decorate with. My little brother won wheel of fortune this year and I was able to score him a vintage light up marquee sign, I found a beautiful rabbit black fur coat for my best friend, and an original oil painting from the 60s for myself! I had a lovely chat with a man named Bob who helped me with the fur and everyone I encountered was so sweet. Even the security guard! I will be back!

Joyce B.

Yelp
Shop has lots of variety. Friendly volunteers staff the shop and they take consignments as well as donations. Helping seniors is a plus.
google avatar

Sherri S.

Yelp
My all time favorite shop... The Guild Shop offers more than you can imagine! Enjoyed shopping here and I plan on going back soon. I hope to put clothing and jewelry on consignment here too. Beautiful furniture can be found at the shop. Plan on staying here 1 hour tops! Love it!
google avatar

Nikki S.

Yelp
I LOVE the Guild Shop. I have found so many great treasures here and love to walk around the store and hunt for things I "need". All of the staff are extremely helpful and kind. Highly recommend!

Danita B.

Yelp
I shopped there for decades. I have not been back since COVID. I purchased furniture, vintage secretary desk, rosewood table with matching storage chest, dresser, my favorite vintage costume jewelry.

Yelp
This should not be listed under thrift stores at all. Prepare to spend BIG. I went in looking for a chair for my living room. First thing I ran into was a French Mid-Century Laddes (otherwise known as "old chair"). On sale for $997. I almost shouted the one French word I know...loudly. Word of advice... stores, be who you are. Unless you're a 1%er this is no more a thrift than I am Peter Pan. I see the draw. It's huge and had I had a leisurely day ahead of me, perhaps I may have lingered a bit more, but after my second glance at a 5 year old LaZ Boy nearly threw me off my rocker at just under $500, I headed for Craigslist and was well within my budget by dusk. If you call River Oaks home, this may be your thrift, but for me... I only meet Rockefellers when they're served on the half-shell.
