The Hanalei Gourmet

We had two drinks, the cream of artichoke soup, and a fish taco. We initially ordered a half-pound shrimp boil with the rest, but 20 minutes after taking our order, they came back and told us they had run out of shrimp. They asked if we wanted to order something else, so we decided to get a burger instead. After waiting at least another 20 minutes, we gave up, canceled the burger, and asked for the check. And the fish taco… it was $16 and very small for its price (see the pictures attached). I’ve had fish tacos at a neighboring restaurant (Hanalei Colony Resort) where they charge around $19 for a portion twice the size and much tastier. I don’t know how to run a restaurant business, but even in NYC, you wouldn’t pay $16 for a single taco and I've had many tacos. On top of that, the taco was just *not bad* at best, but definitely not worth the price. To be fair, the soup was ok, and the server was nice, so I’m giving 2 stars.

Ready Player One 🎮 Your first challenge will be to find a parking space at the always busy Hanalei centre. Not for beginners, but stick at it for your reward! We were fortunate to find a spot and get a table in the Gourmet Sadly I was driving so no beer for me. Lemonade was refreshing and tasted home made. Delicious choice of sandwiches. I went for the local version of a Reuben, and it was really good 😋 Catch of the day was Marlin. Battered as fish and chips. Again very good. Chips (or fries here) were crispy and tasty. Highly recommended. As for the parking spot : may the odds be forever in your favour 😏

This is a little hidden gem in Hanalei. We had the best food here on a mid afternoon stop. The Pin̈a colada rum float with local Hanalei rum was fantastic. The fish sandwich was a huge hit with my wife and I had fish and chips which was some of the best I've ever had. The fresh catch for today was marlin. Make the stop at Hanalei Gourmet, you won't be disappointed! And do not pass on the Kauai pie!!

Wow! The vibe is wonderful with local art on the walls in a bright, older building. Seating is available inside and out. Drinks were very strong. Food is amazing. Swordfish was the fish of the day, and my fish and chips was made with the swordfish! First time I've ever had fish and chips that fancy. Portions are on the smaller side so plan ahead!

If you're looking for the best fish and chips on the island, look no further than The Hanalei Gourmet. It's a laid back atmosphere, with a great bar, lovely service, and super fresh food. It's one of my favorite spots on the North Shore. Don't walk past this one, it's definitely worth a stop! And don't miss Happy Hour from 5-7 pm!

Love, love, love Hanalei Gormet. For me it's some of the best food on the island. Simply delicious food, fresh & scrumptious. My favorite is the fish & chips...its usually the catch of the day fish. Lately it's been Hebi, which I've never had before, but now I'm a fan. It's cook's up white and its firm but very mild tasting..not at all fishy. Served with awesome fries that I think they've got a panko or slight batter on them that makes the outside so crunchy but the insides are nice and soft. It also comes with coleslaw, that not sweet, as I'm not a fan of sweet coleslaw. Tarter sauce & this wasabi sauce, that has just a hint of heat...I prefer tarter sauce on my fish, but the wasabi was fantastic as a fry dipping sauce. My other favorite is Tim's Burger....heavenly. My mom's favorite is the Coconut Shrimp, she'll let you know it's the best she's gotten anywhere. My sister loves the salads, as we all do and the Hanalei Waldorf is a wonderful twist to the real McCoy. We've also tried the Nachos, they were really good and since were native Texans were quite surprised. Salsa was quite tasty without having a lot of heat, so my brother-in-law who can't tolerate hot spicy food loved it. 8/24/2023 Go before 5pm if you want the bigger menu. Chef leaves at 5pm & they go to a lighter menu. Happy hour starts at 5pm. We had the Hebi Fish & chips, fish sandwich & one of their burgers. Fries were awesome. Fish & chips was lovely, as was the fish sandwich. I dthink we've ever ordered something & not liked it. Great dining spot, we always make sure we get at least one meal here if not more. 9/17/2024 I got the Loco Moco it was delicious. I was very surprised at how much, I liked this dish. Can understand why it's a local favorite. Love this place, we go at least once per visit to the island.

Great food and service! I took my family here on a whim because my grandma wanted a fish sandwich for lunch. We waited half an hour and it was well worth it. Our waitress was delightfully conversational, and even appeared to be proud of the food. The fish and veggies taste fresh, and the fries are the crispy breaded kind. We later came to find out that our waitress is the daughter of the owner. Well, this is a great family establishment that we are looking forward to coming back to!

Excellent fish and chips, and the club sandwich was yummy, too. Get the chips instead of fries- so good. We were there in the middle of the afternoon on a rainy day in Hanalei, so it was quiet and easy to get in, but we’ve seen it packed, and now we know why.
