This is a hard to do review. The good news: The hotel is very centrally and conveniently located in Bergan's historic district less than a block to the wharf. Easy walk to the meeting spots for the 2 tours we booked. The staff/family was very nice but not overly engaging and gave but gave no special attention. The breakfast that was included in the price was a good full buffet with several options; drinks, meats, eggs, fruit, cheese, cold cuts, breads, etc., served in a large seating area at the front of the hotel. There was also a nice public seating area near the reception area where we could wait for our travel companions. The bad news: The room we were assigned was dark and uninviting. Windows from the building next door were less than 20ft away, with a restaurant that looked down into the bedroom and seating area, necessitating keeping the curtains closed. Therefore there was no natural light in the room. The bed was comfortable but the carpeting and furnishings in the separate sitting area were, well, another reviewer wrote, "think of grandma's house". The one bright spot was the brand new bathroom which was very well appointed and appreciated.|All rooms are not equal. Our traveling companions had a room on the top floor, street side, with ample windows and skylights. Much brighter and newer furnishings. However, it was across the street from a bar that had a lively crowd until 2am.|I wanted to love this place, and in the ways of it's casual, unstuffy vibe, and it's historical architecture, I did. I'd give it another try being very particular about where the room is located and wouldn't pay extra for a seating area that you won't use because you prefer to be out of the room.
