Our first trip to Bergen didn't disappoint!||Firstly, location is second to none. You are two minutes everything central (E. G five minute walk from the main meeting point for a walking tour in the Central Square) with lots to do near you. When we arrived to the hotel, we were greeted warmly and got a lovely surprise when we headed to our 'small standard' room, only to find it was a lot bigger than we realized! We were charged a little more than we anticipated, but we agreed it was worth it for the room. When we came down for afternoon activities, the man on the front desk (I'm sorry, I didn't catch your name but you were brilliant!) said he had made a mistake with a booking of the same name, and given us their room by mistake. He had already refunded us the difference, and we got to keep the bigger room - basically a free upgrade for us, and for the couple whose room we had. This was already sorted for us before we even had to mention it: that really is first class customer service. |Overall, this hotel was a very pleasant. Super comfortable beds and excellent value for money. The breakfast is also really good, fresh and plenty of options. For any travelers who are thinking of going to Bergen for the first time we couldn't recommend this place more! The staff in particular were wonderful.

This is a hard to do review. The good news: The hotel is very centrally and conveniently located in Bergan's historic district less than a block to the wharf. Easy walk to the meeting spots for the 2 tours we booked. The staff/family was very nice but not overly engaging and gave but gave no special attention. The breakfast that was included in the price was a good full buffet with several options; drinks, meats, eggs, fruit, cheese, cold cuts, breads, etc., served in a large seating area at the front of the hotel. There was also a nice public seating area near the reception area where we could wait for our travel companions. The bad news: The room we were assigned was dark and uninviting. Windows from the building next door were less than 20ft away, with a restaurant that looked down into the bedroom and seating area, necessitating keeping the curtains closed. Therefore there was no natural light in the room. The bed was comfortable but the carpeting and furnishings in the separate sitting area were, well, another reviewer wrote, "think of grandma's house". The one bright spot was the brand new bathroom which was very well appointed and appreciated.|All rooms are not equal. Our traveling companions had a room on the top floor, street side, with ample windows and skylights. Much brighter and newer furnishings. However, it was across the street from a bar that had a lively crowd until 2am.|I wanted to love this place, and in the ways of it's casual, unstuffy vibe, and it's historical architecture, I did. I'd give it another try being very particular about where the room is located and wouldn't pay extra for a seating area that you won't use because you prefer to be out of the room.

This is a very quirky and quaint hotel in an amazing location. Perfect starting point for everything Bergen. The place has some realm old world/Hanse charm, so much so that the worn carpets complement rather than disturb the pleasure of staying here. Breakfast is fine (if not spectacular) with surprisingly decent coffee. Rooms are clean and very comfortable- and very old school. Would definitely recommend staying here!

Det Hanseatiske is in the heart of Bryggen. Just steps from restaurants and cafes. 5 minutes walk from Fløibanen funicular. Very comfortable room with large bathroom. Nice and warm. There are plenty of choices for breakfast; coffees, juices, scrambled eggs fresh hearty bread, boiled eggs, smoked salmon, etc. Great value.

Very unique hotel so willing to forgive that carpets and other interior have seen better days. Lovely staff, good breakfast and surprisingly decent coffee. Rooms clean. Great location as well. Recommended

Great location within walking distance to everything. The hotel has an old school charm, with exposed beams, creaky floors, etc. our room was bright and nice. Only issue? The pub noise from across the street on Friday and Saturday nights goes until 3am. We had to close the windows.

Pros- great location near fish market. Very unique. ||Cons- same breakfast every day. Floors are not level. Deal breaker was club music coming through our walls until 3am on Friday and Saturday night. Windows closed, drapes closed, noise machine going. Could still hear it.
