The Happy 8 Retreat @ Old Town

Stay here for its location in the heritage area of Ipoh Old Town. Concubine Lane is the street parallel to Market St. A long time tea merchant, Leong Swee Sang is just a few doors away. The interior of the hotel is Instagramable. The room is small, basic but clean. There is no wardrobe, and a hot & cold water dispenser is provided in the common area. The ensuite bathroom is big enough and there's hot shower. The hotel is not for the elderly as there are no rooms at the ground floor and no lift. Live music from a nearby pub is audible till early hours in the morning on weekends. The traffic in this area is very bad. If driving, be prepare to park further away, and if taking Grab, be prepared to be dropped off outside this area.

Guys, honestly, if you want to sleep peacefully, don't book hotel here. It's so noisy. I can't sleep in the middle of the night because there are singing. So loud. give earplug also not helping. It's just noisyyyyyyyyyy. non stop singinggggggggg. arghhhh stressss

It’s very beautiful, rustic and different to other hotels. The attention to detail is amazing, and the woodwork is incredible. I would have given the room 5 but the bed is a bit hard. The cafe in the hotel is also nice; the coffee and tiramisu is good. The cafe opens up to a back lane. Over all, the hotel and cafe is very charming.

This is not for everyone. But the place is really unique in style and presentation. Clean rooms, simple but with everything you need. The whole hotel has made use of hand carved wood to make almost everything. Great value for money. You won't be disappointed

Location is good. Food is a lot nearby, you can listen to live pub music in the room. However, if you are a light sleeper might experience some flowing water sound through the pipe or occasionally wood sound when people is walking above you.

Good about this hotel is tastefully decorated and at right old town location.. But bad is the mattress too hard and not comfortable. Another big problem is no sound proof for room, very loud from live band until 2 am and day time neighbourhood playing bird song repeating.. Hope owner of this hotel take this feedback seriously for improvement.

I have no idea why there are negative reviews on here. I spent last night there and the place is lovely. Very comfortable room, lovely bed and bedding (and mosquito net)The place is well thought out, creative, fun. The room was very private and the hot water was bang on demand. The staff were polite and organised and I loved the place very much. Sitting on the balcony watching the lightning storm was magical. I look forward to staying again when I’m in Ipoh. The price is actually unbelievable for what you get. Amazing lah.

The place is so nice,love the bali styles,i get family room but still quite small for me but overall is good,there can refill water and the shower is nice too.It is quite noisy at night.
