Google
Great breakfast place. We got the big breakfast and it has everything you suspect for a big breakfast and it comes with halloumi. It tastes good and I quite enjoyed the homemade hash brown. It was really tasty even though the texture was not what I was expecting. There was a bit of a wait and the price was reasonable.

Great atmosphere - music was on point. The food was absolutely delicious - best pasta dish I have eaten, and the chicken snitty was so moist and and the creamy bacon and mushroom sauce to top it off was so yum. Great little spot for a quiet dinner and a drink or two. Staff were super friendly, approachable and attentive. 5 stars for sure!! Will be back

My husband and I ordered our breakfast and didn’t have to wait long for our food to arrive. Coffee was amazing and our food was made with love. My husband ordered steak and eggs and he was not disappointed. Steak was cooked to perfection and the mushroom were delicious. The eggs Benedict I ordered was amazing (left with a clean plate). Highly recommend The happy wombat.

Google
Very nice place to have breakfast. We ordered eggs, bacon and egg roll and pancakes. The google reviews were excellent so we come to check it out and it was really tasty and delicious. Coffees were also good flavour. The local is clean and spacious with plenty of room and tables

The food is good in general, but my fried in main course was too salty when the entree chicken was a bit less of salt. Haha. It balanced somehow. The service was good & also the atmosphere. 9/10 ❤️

Google
Good quality pub food with a decent variety of different foods. Had a Roasted macadam fettuccine which was really good. They have a good selection of beers, and a reasonable wine list. Service was great with the staff being friendly, attentive and helpful when required.

We couldn’t have asked for a more hospitable and enjoyable evening! The staff really made it. From the moment we walked in they were so genuinely attentive to our needs. The food was outstanding, and on a hugely busy night, when one our meals was mixed up, they had another (complimentary) out within minutes, ensuring we all ate together. We loved our experience here. Big thanks to the staff for all your efforts ❤️

Yelp
Exceptional service, vintage decor, spacious and delicious food. We went for Mother's Day and tables were reserved everywhere. We tried our luck and went there without a reservation. The guy that greeted us and the staff were all amazing! They found us a free table and managed to make an extra table for a family coming in behind us. Will be back.

Yelp
My relationship with the Happy Wombat began when I stayed at the Quest for a work trip in Newcastle. I began with the "Daddy Wombat" - a 400g grass fed rib eye. The steak was tender and the polenta chips and beans matched perfectly. After leaving dinner, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the Quest Hotel provides a chargeback service with the Wombat, and breakfast would be served in this pub. I woke up the next morning without the highest expectations. Steak was a safe bet at a pub, but gormet breakfast at a pub is more unusual than seeing a real wombat in the streets of Newcastle. Breakfast at this "pub" was fantastic. In the morning you're greeted by friendly staff, fantastic coffee and a good breakfast selection. My only annoyance was that breakfast is not served until 7:30AM, which is late for an early-morning person. After leaving the Quest, I have not left The Wombat. I'm in the 8th week of my "short" visit to Newcastle, and I buy a coffee from the Wombat daily. I tend to have dinner at least once a week, and my office has had 2 small functions in this restaurant since the first day of my visit. I leave Newcastle this week, and it only seemed fitting that I had my going away dinner at The Wombat.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere, but the food leaves a lot to be desired. I had a shakshuka, which tasted like an impression cooked by someone who has never tried shakshuka in their life. It was an absolute mess of unbaked onions, tomatoes, and chorizo, with a runny egg on top. It also costs $24, which is far too much for a meal that doesn't live up to its name.

Yelp
What a great Newy find. We wandered past a few days after Christmas to find the Happy Wombat not only open, but super busy. Must be good, we thought, and wandered in to have a look around. Brunch consisted of baked eggs (his) and scrambled eggs (me). His baked eggs were ok... the chorizo was strangely rubbery, but the flavours were good and it was a very generous portion. Great scrambled eggs, but lost a star for charging $4.50 for one piece of hash brown that was about 3cm long. Coffee was excellent. We were pleased to see they offered happy hour jugs of craft beer for only $16. What a bargain. And what a fantastic selection of beer they had as well. Sadly for us, it was about 10am and not really suitable beer drinking time, so we will be back to sample the beers another time!

Yelp
Came here because we were in Melbourne for the weekend, loved it because of the amazing food and atmosphere! The servers were quick and polite, we got our food really quickly and it was AMAZING. The waitress gave a great beer recommendation. Best restaurant I've been to in a long time.

Yelp
I was looking forward to a nice piece of fish after a long day at work and what I received was somewhat different. Ok the fish was nicely done, but where was the rest of it. The piece of fish I received was the size of a $5 note folder in half, not to mention the sides consisting of 4 minuscule carrots in which they seemed wilted and lifeless and about a dozen peas. I really don't think for the price $$$ that fish is their strongest point!!

Yelp
By far the best place to get a cuppa coffee, tea or adult bevie in town! Excellent service by a remarkably down to Earth, kind and fun staff! Great place to take kids and even have a quiet meal on your own! Highly recommend the fresh breakfast menu. Nightly specials are deliciously made at a great price, using a unique and indulgent variety of ingredients. Ambience and welcoming atmosphere makes you want to come back again and again! Excellent!

Yelp
Not a bad place with plenty of room to sit and eat. They have a good selection of craft beers on tap. The service is great and the staff are really friendly!
