We stayed here for 2 nights over New Year's Eve and had a pleasant time. Check in desk was manned by a very pleasant and helpful fellow. Room was nice. Bed comfy. Good closet, lounge chair, fridge with complementary water. Bathroom clean. Drawbacks to the bathroom: it had only 1 central overhead florescent light...and that's it. The mirror had lights built in but they didn't work. No apparent switch anywhere. So, while you could see just fine for the basics, you couldn't shave or apply makeup with any confidence.|Breakfast buffet was...fine.|Other staff helpful and outgoing.|Parking is convenient right behind the hotel.|Location is great...only 2 blocks from most famous pubs, but none of the touristy traffic.|One thing to note: The Harbour Hotel has NO view of the actual harbor. The vast majority of the rooms either stare out at an ancient stone wall, or into the parking court/ the doorways of the apartment complex that actually DOES stare out into the docks/harbor. That's on me, I guess, though the hotel website photos surely imply it looks out on the harbor. Not a dealbreaker, but be aware.|Overall, we were quite satisfied with our choice.

Great spot, close to city centre. Very relaxed atmosphere. Clean and comfortable rooms. Lovely staff. Found the bath with shower inside it a bit inconvenient. However, overall a great experience. Staff are very obliging no matter the time. My family really enjoyed this hotel. We'll be back!

We had a great stay here for 2 nights. Perfect location just a few minutes walk to downtown Galway and a great jumping off point to explore the Connemara area. The breakfast buffet was great and had hot and cold options. Would highly recommend for your stay in Galway

I am a regular visitor to the Harbour Hotel. Location is fantastic and only a short stroll past the Harbour into the city.||Everything about the hotel is excellent but there is one employee that stands out. Arantza is the most personable staff member. I travel a lot and this lady has an infectious personality and goes to great lengths to remember regular visitors what their preferences are.||While having my lunch I have eavesdropped on a conversation she held with an elderly lady and how attentively she went to explain the menu options to her. That attention to detail is rare. Arantza gets the golder buzzer from me!

Visit Galway regularly and hadn't stayed in this hotel in a number of years. Was very impressed with their upgrade since our last visit. Our room was very spacious and spotlessly clean. Bed was very comfortable and found the room very quiet which can be unusual in Galway. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent and the staff looking after us were so nice. Location is great, only a couple of minutes walk to the centre of the city but away from all the noise. Will definitely be returning.

Google
The staff was wonderfully friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great, and the hotel bar had great service as well! Room was clean and comfortable and serviced daily. The hotel is situated within a ~5 minute walk to everything, but is a little off the beaten path so not noisy at night - a huge plus for us!! Overall a wonderful stay!!

Google
The staff were wonderful, the hotel was immaculately clean and in a great location. A special shout-out is required for all the late night staff, in particular Jonathan and Tyrese. We were on a strange schedule due to jet lag - they went above and beyond in ensuring we had everything we needed regardless of the time of night and are a big reason that we will be returning to the Harbour Hotel . Wonderful experience.

Google
This is a tired hotel which is being updated but needs brighter lighting in hallways, carpeting and curtails are dull. It was clean on the interior spaces but the front entrance & driveway was full of cigarette butts, garbage & dead plants- a good clean up out front would be more welcoming. Staff was helpful. Easy & quick walk about 3 blocks into town, pubs, shopping which was a plus.

Yelp
The staff were wonderful, the hotel was immaculately clean and in a great location. A special shout out is required for the late night team, in particular Jonathan and Tyrese. We were on a strange schedule due to jet lag - these two team members went above and beyond in ensuring we had everything we needed regardless of the time of night and felt at home. They are the main reason that we will be returning to the Harbour Hotel without a doubt.

Yelp
Of all the hotels I stayed in Ireland, this was my least favorite. The room, upon first look, was nice and spacious. I liked the wardrobe storage, the desk area, and the additional area for storing luggage. However, there were a few things which made me feel like details were being overlooked and the accommodations were outdated. The real reason I can't justify more than three stars is that housekeeping came into my room when I specifically requested they didn't. I was woken up by knocking on the door and then before I could say anything, they opened the door. I thought this was incredibly strange since I had the do not disturb sign out. Not only that, but you are supposed to request housekeeping with a different sign so why they were coming in at all is confusing to me. I still had the do not disturb sign out the door when I left and upon returning, I noticed some cups had been replaced so they definitely came into the room while I was gone. That didn't make me feel very comfortable. The first towel I went to use had a giant hairball stuck to it. Definitely not mine since I hadn't even used the towels yet. After that, I felt like everything must be dirty. The bathroom also seemed really retro to me and not in a quaint way. The toilet was difficult to flush and the shower pressure wasn't great. Not to mention, the half glass in the shower drove me crazy and no matter how careful I was, the floor would get wet. The rest of the hotel seemed to be falling apart a bit. During my three night stay, the lights of one of the elevators were out the entire time making for some awkward rides with fellow guests. The handle on the front door of the hotel ended up breaking towards the end of the stay as well. Unfortunately, someone got sick on the stairwell and it took the staff until the next morning to adequately clean it up. The location, while fairly central, was a little off the beaten path compared to other lodging options like the Leonardo. I would've much preferred to stay there and will be avoiding Harbour Hotel during future visits to Galway.

Yelp
We appreciated the treat they left in our room for our anniversary! The conditioner, shampoo & body wash smelled like lotus and white tea instead of lemongrass like the rest of Ireland (finally). The room had washcloths, AC, and a fridge with water which is not always common in Ireland. The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of town. The bar area was nice although when I tried to add a tip to my credit card the bartender told me it was pointless that they don't get it. The beds were comfy. Overall nice hotel.

Yelp
Nice and clean hotel with a very walkable location: only a few minutes from the downtown area. We had a third floor (top floor) sky light room. I was surprised that the only "windows" in the whole room were the two skylights which meant no view other than up to the sky. Also the walls were very thin and we were only a few doors down from the elevator meaning we were often awoken by people passing in the hall. Overall a good place to stay but hopefully you have a better experience with a different room.

Yelp
Visiting this hotel was an extreme pleasure! The onsite restaurant was fabulous, The front desk concierge was incredibly supportive and helpful. John O'Malley graciously contacted the ferry company for me and all service was aimed to please, which it did! We felt so appreciated and welcomed. Thank you for your kind assistance!

Yelp
An excellent hotel, very clean and seriously comfortable bed. We did not eat in the restaurant, but did grab pint at the end of the day. Their bar was below par, not much selection of beer or whiskey and the very young bar attendant was not skilled at pouring a Guinness, critical skill needed in Ireland.

Yelp
This hotel is situated in a great location. You are just a short walk away from the restaurants, bars and shopping. We were able to make short walks around the town to see everything we wanted to in Galway. Our room did not have a view of the harbor, but the old stone wall. But it was still pretty. Our room was large, clean and very updated. parking directly connected to the hotel with in and out privileges. The front desk staff was very kind and helpful when our luggage was lost and checking in. We also ate in the restaurant downstairs for bar bites and drinks. This has a wonderful lobby that is inviting for guests to kick back. If I return to Galway, I will definitely come here again.

Yelp
I'm honestly surprised the average rating of this hotel is as low as it is. I saw this after I had booked and was concerned, but had a great stay regardless. This is a luxurious hotel for a fair price. Staff was friendly and helpful, the gym was also nice and clean (about what you'd expect for a hotel gym). Convenient location, fast wi-fi, comfortable beds, clean rooms and bathroom, hot showers, room service and everything you'd expect from a luxurious hotel at a very reasonable price. If you're looking for a nice hotel to stay in Galway this is your hotel! Edit: There's no 24 hour limit on the WiFi anymore. It's free and open so no login required.

Yelp
Website advertised air conditioning..False. With two skylights our room was baking hot. We were able to open the skylights which took the heat out but no air circulation is making it miserable. Giving this hotel a 1 star for false advertising

Yelp
The advantage of this hotel is the location. The Irish staff were lovely, but others working there were very rude. Good food and drink at their restaurant. Our issues were: their bathrooms in the rooms not being clean, the rooms being small and need of paint and an update, no air conditioning in 86+ degree weather, no drinkable water from the taps. The hotel provided us with a small fan that didn't do much to cool us off and an open bottle of water that tasted of dirt. If you are from the US, I wouldn't recommend this place as we're used to air conditioning in hot weather. If you need a central location and a place to lay your head for a short while this place may do, however I haven't experienced rooms like this outside of India. Good luck all!

Yelp
The Harbour Hotel is everything you want a friendly hotel in friendly Galway to be. Nothing over the top, but guests are more than comfortable with the cozy accommodations and impecable service. The rooms are not overly fancy but rather large and very comfortable with ample sized bathrooms, closet space, and soft beds. I appreciated the coffee stations and biscuits in all the room corridors as well! Was a lovely wake up call each morning. I loved the bar and restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel. It was quite a scene Saturday night with a few hen parties rolling through and hotel guests enjoying themselves. The breakfast Sunday morning was delicious-with a fulfilling buffet and a la carte options as well. One cannot ask for a better location in Galway. You're in walking distance of everything-the Latin Quarter, all the restaurants and bars you need, and it's even a nice walk to Salthill Promenade out on the coast. If I'm ever in Galway again I would certainly book with the Harbour Hotel. I can see why every guide recommended it.

Yelp
Nice place! Very clean. Friendly staff. Decent breakfast spread. Walking distance to everything you need. Rooms were decent size. They have parking at the hotel. Would stay here again!

Yelp
Dillisk on the Dock is a GREAT restaurant! Best fish I have had so far. You wouldn't think a hotel restaurant would be this good, but it IS! Go!

Yelp
The restaurant staff is nice, but when it gets busy, service is sporadic. Front desk staff is very nice and accommodating. Rory went above and beyond for us and other people arriving early knowing we needed sleep. I should say that we did not expect to get our room early and he couldn't accommodate everyone, but he really, really tried for everyone. I considered us to be one of the lucky ones. So, prepare that you won't get in early, just in case. It's just on the outskirts of the shopping center. So, it's close, but not as close as other hotels, but this hotel is in better shape, it's been refurbished and I'd rather stay here and walk a little more to where I want to go. It's clean. The lobby is spacious along with a large area for the restaurant that has many tables. Good selection of breakfast foods. The rooms are comfortable, clean and not cramped. They have shampoo, body gel, soap, large towels, hair dryer and free WIFI throughout the entire hotel. Very high tub to step into like most traditional hotels in Ireland. Be prepared to take a large step in, be careful as you move around in the narrow tub and hold on when you get out so you don't slip. Just like the other hotels I stayed in across the country, no face clothes. Extra pillows in the closet. You need to insert your room key in the slot when you enter in order to activate the electricity. This is a great way for hotels to save electricity. You take your key with you and everything shuts down. The electrical appears to be one item that was not updated. There are no convenient places to plug in an adaptor at the head of the bed. The lamp plugs have a different socket than traditional sockets. The next closest socket was not working. The hotel loaned us an extension cord.

Yelp
Recently returned from extended trip to Ireland on private tour with 18 family members. It was wonderful and Love Irish Tours arranged the trip details and did fabulous job. Of course the exception to the warmth and welcoming of all our hotels was the Galway hotel The Harbour Hotel. The treatment we received there was unacceptable and far below anything that would be expected of welcoming and hospitable. To be fair we arrived a bit late and our rooms were organized and we were able to check into our rooms before our 7:30 dinner reservation. However that was the high point of our visit. We had called on the road to see if we could move dinner to 8PM but we were told hotel totally booked and understandably it was a Saturday so we were fine and moved quickly. When I arrived down to the restaurant at 7:35 I noticed that the tables assigned to us were four very separate tables in the bar area and set for 16 persons not the 18 in our group. Two of our group were told they would have to eat at the bar. In the same area where our tables were located there were three hen parties and more additional guests making it extremely noisy and difficult to sit with the overflow from bar. When one table asked the wait person for drinks, he was told that we would need to go to the bar for service that food was what he would take orders for. Needless to say when I arrived I thought there must be some mistake and went to the front desk to see what could be done to move our group to a different area where we noticed many unoccupied tables. I was told that nothing could be done and that not to worry because the hens would be moving out within the half hour. I asked to see a manager and although I did get his name at the time I have lost my notes and can only say that he was rude, arrogant and inhospitable. When I presented my problem he countered that "I run a four star hotel and this is high season." He offered no apology, told me the lads were fine at the bar and that nothing could be done to alleviate any of my requests. The service at our meal was horrible. Each table ordered wine and the bottle was left on the table for us to open. Every aspect of our meal was served by a different person not once did anyone come to check to see if we needed anything. When we finished dinner the tables that were unavailable to us were still vacant. At not point in our stay did anyway apologize for the misstep. While the desk staff were lovely and helpful, the overall experience at the Harbour Hotel was unacceptable. As a seasoned traveler I found the attitude of the manager there condescending and disrespectful. I do not use those words lightly. I would definitely stay at another hotel in Galway. I have been to Ireland nine times and I can honestly say that this was the only hotel I have had such horrible treatment

Yelp
Went here for a funeral reception. Had a lovely meal and delicious apple tart. Staff seem friendly and polite. Seems like a nice place. Right next to the docks. Brrrr

Yelp
3.5 stars, really. This is a great hotel! Excellent location. Pretty much a 3-10 minute walk anywhere but when you're done being in the middle of everything you can easily escape to your quiet spot! Breakfast was included with our room. It's a buffet so you have no excuse for not getting your money's worth ;) That said, they could stand a bit more attention to the drains when cleaning. And, beverage service at breakfast is not as attentive as I would like. I need my coffee in the morning, people! (It's decent coffee, though.) There's free wi-fi but you need a user name and password from the front desk. Each only lasts 24 hours and you have to reenter it any time you've logged off. There is a computer near the elevators that has been available more often than not. Also, a couple tips for Americans: you need to slide your key into the box by the switch to turn on the lights and you tug down on the water spout in the tub to get the shower head going.

Yelp
This hotel is clean and on par with a US Holiday Inn Express, Marriott Fairfield Inn, or a La Quinta. It is only about 10 minutes walking distance from Eyre Square and Shop Street. Breakfast is included and was delicious. Our room had two traditional European beds which are equivalent to US twin beds. We requested two twin flat sheets and slept on top of the duvet covers with only the sheets covering us. During the summer there is not air-conditioning but windows open a little out from the bottom so they can remain open during a rain shower. Just make sure you check them when you first arrive to be sure they will close - ours would not during a howling rainstorm! The most helpful thing of all is a fan to circulate air in the room. The outside daytime temperatures were about 60° F./15° C. If it had been hotter than that we would have been miserable.

Lauren M.

Yelp
Great staff, especially helpful general manager Aine. Lovely interior since redecoration, very comfortable beds and warm and welcoming atmosphere. Easily accessible to and from the city centre and a beautiful view of the docks Peacefully quiet rooms given central location. Staff are on hand and full of advice for activities to do around the city

Yelp
Somehow it is nice and cold outside and it is so hot in the hotel room. No AC. Windows can only craCk a tiny bit. Food not very good. Price is high. I don't get it. Bummer !

Yelp
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in this hotel. The rooms are very comfortable and clean, and the amenities are nice as well. I'm used to restaurants in hotels being awful, but this one was fantastic. The bar was great as well and had a nice selection. Harbour is wonderfully located close to the action, but not so close that it keeps you up at night. As the name would suggest, it is located right in the water which makes for stunning scenery. The people who work in this hotel are so nice and helpful. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Galway.

Yelp
Modern, luxurious hotel for a very fair price. We were greeted with hot mulled wine when we got in, which was amazing because the weather was horrendous. Very close to the train station. Our room was very clean, modern, large, and attractively furnished. Staff were friendly. Notably, the breakfast buffet that was included was much better than I expected. (no offense Ireland, but you guys don't eat very well as a rule) In addition to a full, traditional Irish breakfast with high quality meats, it had really good porridge and a yogurt bar with lots of fresh and healthy topping choices. Nuts, fruit, local jams made by the nuns, and even fresh veggies.

Jim C.

Yelp
Location was good for getting to the busy area by foot and still having no trouble parking the car. 5 minute walk. staff was superb! Only thing was our view was the parking garage. Not great for a place called "harbour"
google avatar

Jimmy D.

Yelp
Stayed here one night and this is a nice hotel. Friendly staff. We were able to store our bags after checking out for the day at no charge. Easy walk to city center (about 5 minutes ). Breakfast was included with our room & it was very filling. Typical Irish fare plus other options.
google avatar

Hazel O.

Yelp
We stayed there for three nights and it was nice - good location and pleasant staff. Their breakfast buffet is lovely, however you have to pounce on wait-staff to take your order for tea/coffee and toast, which is a nice way to make sure you get it fresh, but there weren't many staff on the floor, so it took a while to order... I didn't like that the room was set up for two people (cups, tea, glasses, towels) when my reservation was specifically for three people. Just a little bit of thought would've been nice, but they were nice about giving us extras when I asked. Housekeeping was a bit lax too, you had to put up a little sign on the door to indicate you wanted it, which was weird. Not sure if many people copped on to this as we found there lots of room service trays lying around the corridors for hours at a time. They were the most reasonable when I rang around for rates too, The location was pretty central but not noisy at night. I think I'd stay here again.

Yelp
If your room overlooks Bother de Long St, you will get NO sleep...trucks & buses go down this street all night long and are VERY noisy (this is not a tall hotel). ...otherwise a clean, well located hotel - Holiday Inn-like.
google avatar

Lisa P.

Yelp
Location is good however the noise from the street made it unbearable to sleep. There was screaming and yelling in the halls as well as on the street. When I mentioned this to the hotel staff they couldn't be bothered. Was very disappointed by the staffs reaction. Would not recommend if you want a good nights sleep.
google avatar

Yelp
Good 3 star - staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast plates could have been warmer - warm food on cold plates means a hurried meal.

Yelp
Great Hotel neat and very clean great service from the front desk and the bar.

Yelp
My family of 4 booked 2 rooms and stayed 2 nights at this hotel. We were disappointed at the tiny rooms that only had one double bed each. Only instant coffee in rooms. The shower was broken but they did send someone up to fix it promptly. When we got back from exploring the city in the afternoon to rest before dinner, our rooms had not been made up so we had to wait in the bar after requesting maid service. No instructions for using the phone. Later found out you had to dial 5 to get guest rooms. No one at reception to answer my call after check in. The lobby and restaurant are very nicely furnished but the guest rooms look like a budget hotel. This is our 4th hotel in Ireland. We have stayed in Dublin, Cork, and Killarney and had wonderful hotels. This place was extremely disappointing compared to our other experiences in Ireland. To the hotel's credit, they did offer us larger rooms after we complained to our travel agent and he contacted them, but the two rooms they offered weren't on the same floor and that is essential when traveling as a family with children. Don't be deceived by the website photos. It is close to the city center. Would not recommend.

Chris M.

Yelp
The hotel has nice style and friendly staff and is very well located. However we were not informed when our group booked three rooms that these rooms would be so tiny that there is barely enough room to stand after opening a suitcase. The room had bunk beds like in steerage class on a ship ( which btw is the design motif used throughout the hotel). The bathroom had beautiful finishes but the layout of toilet and shower made them very difficult to use. You must be a person of small stature to stay in these rooms. The front desk answered the size complaint by saying the rooms were double rooms. But I feel they should disclose the actual size and that there beds and one on top of the other. Disclosure would go a long way in making sure a guest gets what they are expecting and will be comfortable. Also the noise level from these rooms is intense as just across the alley is a loud youth hostel. I dare say their rooms may have been larger!!

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Hotel was wonderful, the location is absolutely perfect. Far enough away from the action so that it's not loud, but close enough that you can be at any bar, restaurant or store within a five minute walk. Room was spacious and comfortable and they validate parking too. Would definitely recommend.
