The Hardware Distillery

Must stop pit stop! This little nook is one of the best craft distillery I have had tastings at. Majority of ingredients used are local and make this such a special thing. The owner is a fountain of knowledge and a fountain of fine liquor. Part store part distillery this small place is fun to explore. Peered into the distillery section while having the tasting, you can see the beautiful copper stills. Great Covid precautions, safe and simple without being overbearing about it. Needless to say after tasting literally everything!… we bought many bottles. Great flavors for everyday and some perfect for the holidays. It will be such a special treat when I serve it to my guests during upcoming holidays. There are couple sizes of bottles, including minis that make nice gifts to give. Not only would I go back, I would order and have it shipped. Bees knees with fig and the HyW 101 coffee liqueur were my top favorites followed by the rest! What a local treasure!

Can’t begin to say enough about Jan, Chuck, and the entire experience at Hardware Distillery. Made the pilgrimage 2+ hours from Seattle to Hoodsport with one goal in mind - get my hands on additional bottles of the Hardware Distillery Dill Aquavit (which is exceedingly tough to obtain other than in person). Was greeted with open arms, given a tour of the facility and a walk through the entire distilling process, and were treated to more samples than imaginable. Having tried a number of aquavits in my life - what I really like about Hardware Distillery is how incredibly smooth their spirits are - particularly because so much of their aquavit is distilled from pears. Ended up purchasing enough aquavit to last my friends and family a few years - time and money incredibly well spent. Thanks for the amazing experience!

Very good and fun experience! The owner welcomed us and showed the whole distillation process, and he let us try many different gins, meads and aquavit they make.

Tasty artisan distillery with friendly, knowledgable staff. The tasting and tour are short but sweet.

A must stop if you're in town or passing by. The owners here are lovely people and the master distiller is always eager to introduce you to his array of fantastic spirits. A really fantastic, unique, and special place.

The Hardware Distillery in Hoodsport is a must-see stop for Hwy 101 travellers of the spirits-loving sort! Chuck is not only skilled at his craft, but is happy to share his knowledge of Nordic style spirits along with complimentary tastings. What a great visit!

I love this place. They are extremely knowledgeable of the practice and art of distilling fine spirits, and they keep the scandinavian spirit alive. They even sell bottles in the shape of tomtes, which is awesome!

We make it a point to stop in The Hardware Distillery every time through Hoodsport. The owners are always very friendly and offering to walk through their beautiful copper kettles. Very fun selection of product gifts. A must do. And then follow up with ice cream down the wooden sidewalk of course.

Fun little distillery in an old hardware store! Definitely worth a visit when you're in the area. Complimentary tastings of all their spirits (and they have a lot!). I'm not usually a whisky or gin fan, but theirs were quite good. Also interesting to try aquavit! Was pleasant chatting with the owner and we were able to have our pup inside too. We left with some whiskey, Hwy 101 coffee liqueur (in a gnome bottle!), and their raspberry liqueur.

I learned about this place after tasting some of their products at Skal in Ballard. After a trip to Norway a few years ago I always get excited by aquavit and am always hoping to taste different varieties and learn more about it. The dill version made here particularly called to me. Once I learned that this was made locally in Hoodsport I knew that I would one day have to stop off to see the place it's made. I don't get to Hoodsport nearly as much as I used to, but if it's been a minute since you have been, do check it out, its so cute here now. This tasting room is right on the main strip, we even lucked out and scored parking right out front. I had expected this to be a place where you paid a tasting fee, but they were gracious enough to let us enjoy many free tastings. Since it was the aquavit that lead me to seek it out I didn't really even know they made so many other delicious drinks. If aquavit is not your thing, they also have mead, gin, vodka, whiskey, etc. The cardamom aquavit is particularly tasty and not something I ever would have tried without their recommendation. I really loved the cute gnome bottles. The old hardware store is interesting to look around, I like the old pictures. They sell some other things here as well, including paintings. The person who helped us was so great, explaining everything, telling us the history of how these spirits came to be made here. My partner did take some home to enjoy later and assured me they continued to be delicious.

Businesses in small rural towns can be hard to thrive ... relying on tourism and local staffing. So it's great when I see so many people inside Hardware Distillery. This is a place you may just wander into to see what's going on - not expecting to buy ANYTHING - and leave with a lighter wallet with BAGGED THINGS. Interesting things. Tastings are made to be fun and interesting and almost guaranteed to have a surprise or two. If you like spirits, definitely stop in. It's a cute town. Can be a hustle in Summer - off season is my favorite time to visit Hoodsport.

Visiting Hoodsport while camping, just finished hiking Upper Big Creek Loop and decided I needed a Gin and Tonic. This led me to the Hardware Distillery in search of a good gin. The Distiller/owner was so knowledgeable and engaging. He generously let us sample many of his creations and I was blown away by the quality and flavor of so many- the aquavits were spectacular. Cute little shop and they make you feel right at home. I left with whiskey, aquavit, gin and will be making my gin and tonic as soon as I get back to camp. Definitely recommend!

If you like whiskey this is a must go in the Hoodsport area. Chuck the distiller is amazing and friendly. We will be back to grab his aquavid and his coffee liquor. They sell half bottles (375ml) and full bottles (750ml), and good thing I grabbed the full 750ml bottle because the whiskey is so good that I would have already gone thru the half bottle .

Great little distillery. The gnome bottles are the cutest, great gift for many. The owner is so knowledgeable, kind, and helpful for which selection might entertain your palette.

Very cute small family distillery on main st Hoodsport WA. Sampling and sniffing the pear based vodka was simply very enticing as was the 3 year aged whiskey. Being on a Motorcycle precluded any more than sniffing so we had to come home with the not inexpensive 4 bottle shots $20.00 sampler box..

Great new(ish) addition to good ol' Hoodsport! We took a little road trip one day and ended up here. If you catch them when they are open, they have a liquor tasting. Make sure you eat something before you come in, their stuff is potent! They've got a variety of liquors, mostly vodkas but also gin. It's a little strong for my taste, but definitely would make a great gift for the spirits lover in your life. And you're buying local! The interior is nice and the staff are very courteous. There are little knick-knack souvenir-type stuff you can buy (the little alcohol barrels! so cute!). There's also some random framed mounted pins, like the old button pins (see photos). Look out for the cool old holographic one - Kennedy, I think? Wacky. On the other side of the room, you can get a tour of the distillery stuff. We didn't stay for this, but maybe next time! This is definitely a place to stop in if you're in Hoodsport. Be sure and sign the guestbook. :)

A lovely new distillery run by Intelligent friendly folk who can teach you and peach-you with distillates (eg: kind of rare unique honey peach brandy they create called bees knees) - the government won't let them call the Brandy it's a distilled mead try that one on to give you a spirit lift! If you're in Hoodsport why wouldn't you stop in? They well deserve the five stars are getting here. What a great deal in their gold medal awarding aquavit.

Finally got around to looping the Hood Canal and was looking forward to checking this place out. What a find! We weren't sure what to expect, and ended up with a lovely introduction to their spirits. The Aquavits in particular were a delightful surprise! We bought some for ourselves and as gifts--the labels really add to the uniqueness and gift-ability of the products!

Such a wonderful welcoming place :) my parents live in the area and you get a 20% locals discount! Chuck and Jan are wonderful people and they're alcohol is delicious. Their gin is the best gin! It has so much more flavor and is sweeter than other gin. My boyfriend loves Hwy 101, I always get him a bottle when I go to visit my parents. It's been a wonderful addition to Hoodsport. They partner with the library for a trivia night once a month and it's become a hit! It used to be just a few regulars and now the place is packed! When I went this past month with my parents and sister, there wasn't an empty seat in the house! It was so much fun and they also sell food and alcohol. $5 plates from Nina's and shots or a signature cocktail that they change up each week for $5! During the summer they're open during the week, but during the winter they're only open on the weekends. You won't regret stopping in, it's delicious! Oh and they'll give you a taste of anything before you buy! And you'll want to after you try it :)

Definitely worth a stop in! Free tastings help with the five stars, certainly, but it's also just a cool little place. It's in the old town hardware store, and when you walk in you see the tasting bar on the right and all the manufacturing on the left. It's all just right there! The liquor was solid; the whiskey was just fine, but their oak-barrel aged distilled mead is surprising, unique and lovely. The Bee's Knees with figs is soooo good. Didn't try the vodka, but the gin and various liqueurs were all tasty. I ended up with leaving with a few Christmas gifts for friends and family.

This place is AMAZING. The sweet lady shared so much information, gave great descriptions, and let us try anything we liked! You can tell they're really passionate about their products- whatever your preferred drink, you can't go wrong here! I wish I could give 5 more stars for the cute hand-dipped gnome bottles!

Had a lovely visit to the distillery this weekend and learned so much about their process, flavors and aquavits. Brought 2 bottles home and will definitely be back on our next visit to the area. Watch out for their fluffy store kitty, she's feisty!

We always stop here when in the area. They are always willing to explain th eprocess and show you the stills. Free tastings. Bee's Knees is our favorite. This time they had a black cherry coffee flavored whiskey which had such a smooth aftertaste we had to bring some home with us!

This was a surprise stop along the highway as we drove through Hoodsport. Lots of specialty spirits and Chuck, the distiller, was great at explaining each and the process he goes through to create them. The gin is great, and we especially liked the aquavit with cardamom. Add a little of that to the coffee liqueur and you get a very tasty cocktail.

The owners are very helpful & friendly. Even gave us a tour of the distilling process. We enjoy the gin, aquavit, & Bee's Knee's (raspberry & plumb) on our bar. Stop in for a lively chat with the owner, and some excellent spirits.

Super cute little distillery we discovered passing through town. Loved their unique products with such a wide variety of flavors. Came home with a cherry coffee flavored spirit and a dill infused spirit. Service was great and got to meet the distillery kitty!

This distillery resides in the space that an Ace Hardware store (which, was a treasure as well!) used to be. I am a big fan of repurpose rather than rebuild, so I was already cheering them on when mom told me about them. These folks know what doing things local is all about. They infuse their spirits with various natural flavorings. From the "Bee's Knees" (unique distilled mead) honey, to the peaches in the infused "Peachy Keen" and the coffee used in "Hwy 101" (see my review for Hoodsport Coffee Company!) - all locally sourced and lovingly handled to create one-of-a-kind spirits. The product line is impressive for a small distillery - so better than reading my review about them, go try for yourself!!

Absolutely a must destination if you are a distilled spirit affectionato. The aquavit is superb - The dill was our favorite- even inspired the FjordinCrossin to carry a cask across the Hood Canal in true Linnie fashion. Charming building and knowledgeable hosts. Good find!

This is a must stop for your liquor cabinet. Bought some of their GIN, could have easily purchase a bottle of everything they make. Can't wait to make some Cocktails!

The other yelpers are right, this place is fantastic. The husband and wife are very friendly. The husband's tour of the distillery was the most informative I have experienced. Each spirit is unique, I appreciate the focus on bringing back classics and the drink recipe cards. I also appreciated the sampler size bottles; great deal and opportunity to try 4 different types.

Oh man!! If you're going through Hoodsport or close by......stop on by and check this place out!!! The owners here are super friendly and have great product for just starting. P.S. the owners son owns epic ales over in Seattle. Great beers. Support the small local businesses in Washington State.

This place was excellent! Chuck was very friendly and welcoming, and walked us through all of the flavor profiles going on in each item, which were all exciting and original. Their whisky is quite good, and their vodka is one of the more unique yet enjoyable vodkas I've had. They have a great variety of liquors using some unconventional ingredients, but each was enjoyable and we walked out with several bottles purchased for ourselves and some friends at reasonable prices. If you have the time absolutely stop by here for a fun tasting experience!

This was a great place. It was suggested to us by the bartender at the Model T pub. Very friendly. Very knowledgeable. Eager to share their creations. Their "plain" vodka is far from plain. Was told it was pear based and is sweet. The crabby gin was another favorite...not overly "piney" and very smooth on the palate. My fave though, was the aquavit. I have never had it before but I plan to have it again. They had 3 flavors but the original is my personal choice. The base is star anise which comes through subltly. This will definitely be a place we will return to

I am so glad we came across this place after hiking at Lake Cushman. The samples were great, especially the raspberry Bee's Knees, and the owner was so nice. Plus the distillery cat was an added bonus. This a must when in the area!

This is a wonderful distillery! Chuck is the owner and was very friendly and professional. His wife is in charge of the aquavits and is also a very talented watercolor artist and designer of the labels on all the bottles. The tasting went well. There were some seriously delicious and quality spirits made here. Some of my favorites included: raspberry mead, peach mead (owl), cat's pajamas, Dirty Ginny gin, and the Dill aquavit. The meads were so tasty. There's something about honey in your liquor that really makes it special. The Dirty Ginny gin was very good too. It was fairly smooth and I just loved the taste. The cardamon and dill aquavits were really nice. The dill had a subtle flavor, which I really preferred and the cardamon aquavit was intense, but definitely in a good way. It was really hard for me to decide exactly what to buy because I truly liked most of the spirits, so I picked up a sample box of four flavors I liked best. Overall excellent experience and highly recommend. Very happy to have found this gem!

Put this place on your bucket list! A new great addition to the northwest! Awesome distillery with wonderful interesting people that own it! Proves that American ingenuity is not dead! Thanks for the wonderful tasting we will bring our friends back! Thanks for revitalizing hood sport!

A great new addition to Hoodsport. We stopped in for a tasting and found the distillery a great meeting place for locals as well as those passing through. A beautiful tasting room and friendly, welcoming atmosphere. not to mention great spirits. We especially liked the Bee Knees.

We found this place by accident, looking for somewhere to buy liquor in Hoodsport. My husband asked if I wanted to try it, and we hemmed and hawed a while, but finally said, what the heck! Are we glad we did! I wish I had gotten the distiller's name, because he treated us so well! He was so knowledgeable, personable, and generous with his samples. He has small batches of very fine, imaginative whiskeys, gins, aquavits, and vodkas, not to mention the liqueurs distilled from mead and locally grown fruits! We ended up buying 5 350 ml bottles, and wish we could have justified buying more! It was a totally unexpected and very lucky find!

Fantastic products - definitely go in for a tasting. Chuck, the distiller, showed us around and answered questions before we even started tasting. I walked away with a bottle of Aquavit, but the gin, vodka, and bees knees were also very tasty.

An interesting little distillery that makes for a nice stop along the Hood Canal. The staff is very informative and friendly during the tasting. We enjoyed the gin and the whisky. The bottles are attractive and the recipe cards very helpful.
