The Hare & Hounds Hotel, a Design Boutique Hotel Tetbury, United Kingdom

"In gardens and woodland, the Hare & Hounds is a charming, traditional English country house hotel, with a popular restaurant and bar. The Westonbirt National Arboretum is half a mile away. There are bedrooms in the original house, as well as the Garden Cottage and Coach House. Many overlook the gardens or countryside. All have free Wi-Fi internet access. The Beaufort Restaurant has original features such as a beamed ceiling, and large windows that overlook the garden. The Hare & Hounds has a 2 AA rosette for its food. The more casual Jack Hare’s is a cosy bar with log fires, real ales and tasty meals. The Hare & Hounds Hotel is just off the A433 road, with easy access to the M4 and M5 motorways. It is 20 miles from Bath, 2 miles from Tetbury." - My Boutique Hotel (en)

We chose this hotel due to its close proximity to The Gardens at Highgrove. ||We were staying in The Magnolia suite which was very large with a private garden and hot tub. The suite was clean, the bed was comfy and we were left a bottle of fizz and chocolates! ||We enjoyed a lovely evening meal in the restaurant and breakfast in the morning was good. ||All staff were very friendly and the two gents in the restaurant were very attentive. ||It was very expensive for a one night stay however as a treat we were happy with what we paid.

I really wish the hotel would read the reviews on TA and reply - shows a sign of very poor management in my opinion and even care of their guests. It could be such a wonderful place to stay not the average stay we experienced.|Lovely friendly welcome from reception on arrival. Our room was clean and everything worked ok. Felt slightly dated and could do with a repaint? It was ok for our two night stay though.|Ate in the lovely candlelit restaurant (great Rioja wine) lamb/steak all good. Desserts were fine. Not amazing just ok. Ate in the more relaxed bar area and that was also good. Staff in both were exceptional. Great service by all the hardworking young people there.|Breakfast was a little poor in my opinion. Needed more fresh fruit and nuts.|It is very popular with dog owners, which is fine but to allow your dog to sit on dining chairs in the bar area and on on sofas is totally unacceptable in my opinion. So unhygienic and disgusting.|I really think there should be some rules regarding dog owners.|Unfortunately we wouldn't return because of the inconsiderate dog owners.|Such a shame as it was ideal for our visit to Highgrove Gardens. Will stay elsewhere if we visit Highgrove again.|The hotel has so much potential.

What a fabulous venue for a wedding, we were made to feel so welcome last weekend by Mia and the fabulous events team. Great space for a wedding, beautiful room, the food was delicious and the welcome was warm. Thank you so much for making us feel so welcome and we cannot wait to come back soon. Very poor experience. Room large, clean, comfortable bed. Chips in paintwork, mirror, bathroom tiling. Shower really dirty, mildew and mould on walls, tiles and grouting. Nice outside area outside room but dirty, scruffy furniture, not remotely inviting. Dressing table but no light so impossible to see to put makeup on. 1 plus, Dining room very nice but we had a large, noisy party (which are there regularly) which totally ruined our meal. Was nice meal but very expensive for what it was. Lunch in Jacks was disappointing and expensive. Breakfast in morning nice. ALL staff were lovely, friendly and helpful. Lovely welcome.

Booked for an 8yr Anniversary one night stay and breakfast the journey of which is 2hrs away from home for us. The room was well presented and of a decent size, the hotel itself is charming and full of character and the front of house staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. However, at dinner time we ordered our main and I chose the fillet steak I asked for it medium-well done specially stating no blood and the waiter acknowledged my request. The steak came out rare, it went back and then came out again slightly past rare and just more seared on the outside. This ruined the main meal and flow of the evening as my partner had finished her dinner by this point. Again the front of house couldn't apologise enough and subsequently didn't charge me for the dish. Breakfast the following day made up for the poor evening meal. Based on this mistake I would be hesitant to come back or recommend this place going on the merit of it's food if you were to advise friends and family of a place of romance, heritage and prestige. It just simply didn't live upto expectations. - I'd suggest all chefs have some more internal training in how to cook certain meats and dishes to diners requirements and leave the egos at the door about not cooking a fillet steak past rare because its not right for that cut of meat!

Outstanding visit for 12 of us celebrating over 600 years of friendship. |Room lovely, check in easy. With 6 couples, any little queries dealt with efficiently and tolerantly by front desk!|We had the private dining room which was just perfect and our main waiter for the night , Ian was perfection. |Setting is wonderful, lovely wooded countryside. The Arboretum, being next door was very convenient for a pre check in and lunch. |Breakfast, again in our private dining room was well presented and speedily served. |Only niggle was we asked for house red at dinner. Offered a Malbec or Merlot. Chose the Malbec. £46 for house red ( and we had had 2 so £92 ) thought was a bit steep. In all fairness, I did not check price when ordering!|A memorable stay. |Highly recommend.

I booked up the Hare & Hounds for 2 nights last minute and was pleased they had room to accommodate us with our dog too. The place itself feels really spectacular, and the food was 10/10. We ate in the bar area as we had our dog and the staff where very accommodating and attentive! Our dog got treated to a cooked sausage on the first morning at breakfast which was a really lovely touch, but then she got completely ignored on the second morning and we didn’t get offered the same service, whereas all the other people with dogs got offered the dog breakfast which was rather confusing. |Also the website says that a dog bed and bowl is included with every dog friendly room booking and we didn’t have this either. So I do wonder what the extra £20 per night dog fee charge is really used for. (For reference we have a hypoallergenic dog so there’s no dog hair for the staff to clean) so to pay an extra £40 for this in total I feel is a bit insane. ||The other thing that let us down on the trip was how incredibly noisy it was staying in the room we were in. We stayed in Willow which is I imagine part of the dog friendly accommodation rooms, however being on the bottom floor we were woken up both in the night and both mornings by people walking / stomping up and down the stairs and even moving around upstairs in the room above us. It was a 2 up 2 down layout so I would definitely not recommend staying in either of the rooms on the ground level if you want a good nights sleep! |It would be the main thing stopping us from staying again, unless we could get a room on the upper floor.

Lovely accommodation for myself, husband and our dog Rosie.|Our room was very clean, large and spacious. |We were left chocolates and a welcome card which was in our room on arrival.|Great room amenities.... dressing gowns, coffee machine etc. Bathroom with walk in large shower. |Staff are friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was super yummy and plentiful.|As for Rosie our dog she loved her sausage, her free treats, and ball and welcomed the love from staff everyday|A lovely break.
