The Hare & Hounds Hotel, a Design Boutique Hotel Tetbury, United Kingdom

"In gardens and woodland, the Hare & Hounds is a charming, traditional English country house hotel, with a popular restaurant and bar. The Westonbirt National Arboretum is half a mile away. There are bedrooms in the original house, as well as the Garden Cottage and Coach House. Many overlook the gardens or countryside. All have free Wi-Fi internet access. The Beaufort Restaurant has original features such as a beamed ceiling, and large windows that overlook the garden. The Hare & Hounds has a 2 AA rosette for its food. The more casual Jack Hare’s is a cosy bar with log fires, real ales and tasty meals. The Hare & Hounds Hotel is just off the A433 road, with easy access to the M4 and M5 motorways. It is 20 miles from Bath, 2 miles from Tetbury." - My Boutique Hotel (en)

Stayed here for a weekend to see the autumn colours of Westonbirt Arboretum. Hotel itself is a lovely building, well furnished, clean and tidy in well kept gardens and surroundings Exemplary staff from reception, to bar and dining room and are to be commended especially as we noted with shall we say,. "difficult" patrons.|The downside? It's just way overpriced. Our room (The Mulberry) was ok, clean but dated with lack of facilities for the price. No fridge, no minibar and minimal storage, drawers etc. Have stayed in better for less money.|Evening meal in the beautiful and extremely well managed restaurant was mixed. My wifes chicken was done to perfection, my fillet steak not so. At £43 for an 8 oz. this is the most expensive fillet I've had, overpricing some Michelin restaurants I've eaten in, and also the toughest piece of meat too. Cooked a tad more than the medium well I asked for too. It was a huge disappointment. My commenting on this to the waiter was just that it will be passed on to the chef. My wife commented that it looked like the end piece of the fillet.|Drinks in the bar continued in the same vein. glass of wine for £16 from, after a quick Google, to be found at £17 for the bottle online. Yes, I know there are overheads but...|A nice enough weekend but doubt I'll be back. The prices don't match the experience.

Bit hit and miss if I’m honest. Room was great, loads of space and lovely to have our own private hot tub. Our primary reason for choosing this hotel was its proximity to The Falcon Steakhouse where we were going for dinner one night so location was spot on. Service at the hotel left a lot to be desired. Had to wait almost an hour for afternoon tea, had to ask for milk for our tea (20 mins after our tea was brought out), had to ask for butter for our toast at breakfast, no toilet roll after the cleaner had made up our room - just seemed a bit relentless.

Excellent stay ^-^b! Good for walkers! Our primary reason for the stay was to visit Westonbirt Arboretum. The hotel is perfectly situated within walking distance of both the Arboretum (prebook discount tickets for not using a car), and Tetbury centre. You can take the Monarchs way out of the Arboretum back to the hotel, and from the hotel into Tetbury centre area. We did just that on arrival day, to get lunch at a pub and get to know the area, visit the church, and take some plants (with donations of course!). Theres a charming little wine shop just across the road with dessert wines. Their bags are strong enough for the walk back. The Monarchs way is a lovely walk in both directions, cows, horses, and much wildlife about. Please don’t ever feed other peoples livestock/animals, as they may be on special diets, and this is a very expensive vet bill! We wore wellies, and had no issues walking the muddy trails by day, then switching out to more formal footwear throughout the hotel for dinner/breakfast. The area is very quiet at this time of year but it feels very warm and cheerful. The hotel is very generous with their guests, breakfast included into our booking was great, and there are even winter tipples allowances that made pre-dinner time fun! We really enjoyed the other areas for sitting to read/sketch. They have nature books for browsing with interesting tidbits about the countryside ecology and history. Overall this felt like a home away from home in a beautiful area, during a quieter, but not less beautiful time. You can reach the hotel by bus from Bath central. It’s a long ride, but very scenic. We will definitely returning again, and checking out their other hotel sites as well for next year. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. Be sure to check out the art throughout the hotel, there are some lovely pieces about. P.S. Theres a pretty nice parch of land behind the hotel that was once a tennis/sports court, that has massive potential for a secret garden ;) wink wink!

Visited the hotel last Sunday for a roast . The beef was really well cooked and great quality. The cauliflower cheese was very tiny ( a small spoonful at best). The cost was £26 , which for the quality of food and beautiful surroundings was fair .... but we were left with a sour taste with the drink prices . Over £17 for a glass of wine and then got charged £1.10 on top for a dash of lime in the beer . Service was average . Wouldn't visit again . We try different venues every weekend, and it just wasn't worth the over pricing.

This is a very convenient hotel to Westonbirt Arboretum. The bar has cocktails and the restaurant is excellent. The room was spacious and comfortable with a lovely bath and Shower. The rooms were kinda interestingly down a long long rabbit warren like winding path which made for a bit of an adventure including views of the outdoor fountain, the antique chests in various parts of the long winding path from the stairs to our room. It was pretty quiet and our room was over the bar side of the hotel and next to the drive in..

We chose this hotel due to its close proximity to The Gardens at Highgrove. ||We were staying in The Magnolia suite which was very large with a private garden and hot tub. The suite was clean, the bed was comfy and we were left a bottle of fizz and chocolates! ||We enjoyed a lovely evening meal in the restaurant and breakfast in the morning was good. ||All staff were very friendly and the two gents in the restaurant were very attentive. ||It was very expensive for a one night stay however as a treat we were happy with what we paid.

I really wish the hotel would read the reviews on TA and reply - shows a sign of very poor management in my opinion and even care of their guests. It could be such a wonderful place to stay not the average stay we experienced.|Lovely friendly welcome from reception on arrival. Our room was clean and everything worked ok. Felt slightly dated and could do with a repaint? It was ok for our two night stay though.|Ate in the lovely candlelit restaurant (great Rioja wine) lamb/steak all good. Desserts were fine. Not amazing just ok. Ate in the more relaxed bar area and that was also good. Staff in both were exceptional. Great service by all the hardworking young people there.|Breakfast was a little poor in my opinion. Needed more fresh fruit and nuts.|It is very popular with dog owners, which is fine but to allow your dog to sit on dining chairs in the bar area and on on sofas is totally unacceptable in my opinion. So unhygienic and disgusting.|I really think there should be some rules regarding dog owners.|Unfortunately we wouldn't return because of the inconsiderate dog owners.|Such a shame as it was ideal for our visit to Highgrove Gardens. Will stay elsewhere if we visit Highgrove again.|The hotel has so much potential.
