"Why did this hotel catch your attention? What's the vibe? You'll find old school New England decor in a 1850 Greek Revival. Wood-burning fireplaces and antiques at nearly every turn, and lush, technicolor gardens. The cozy, relaxed elegance of The Haraseeket sits in contrast to the energy of Freeport's well-known shopping center, yet it's just a two-minute walk away. What's the backstory? It's refreshing to see a top-level property that hasn't been sold to a hotel chain. It's owned by the inimitable Nancy Dyer Gray—now in her 80s, she's won countless hospitality awards and is a champion and pioneer of Maine tourism—and her family, including her grandchildren. Their personal dedication is evident in details throughout the hotel and you see it in the staff, and their connection to the regulars who visit from inside and outside of the state. (Many of the employees have worked for the hotel for more than two decades.) Tell us all about the rooms. Any tips on what to book?Like many of the 82 rooms at The Haraseeket, ours had a Federal-style wooden bed with a draped quarter canopy and a wood-burning fireplace. Appointments are well maintained—like the richly colored Persian rugs, oversized Jacuzzi tub in a bathroom covered with delicate floral wallpaper, and blanket throws woven at local mills. Rooms like this are found in both the main section and the pet-friendly Carriage House. Is there a charge for Wi-Fi?It's included in all the room rates and works well in every room on the property. Drinking and dining—what are we looking at?Maine Harvest is the property's more formal option, and Chef Troy Mains's menu is one of the reasons the restaurant is a destination for locals and those staying at nearby hotels. He serves New England dishes that borrow from Continental traditions and a few contemporary flavors, like the pan-roasted halibut with lemon-sesame miso and wild mushroom toast on brioche with raclette. If the lobster stew with chives is available, don't miss it. Meanwhile, over in the Broad Arrow Tavern, things get notably more casual. There are no reservations and the brick-oven pizzas and epic all-you-can-eat daily lunch buffet are the biggest draws. In the fall and winter, its hunting and fishing lodge-inspired decor exudes cozy charm, and in the summer, try to grab a table on the outdoor patio. All rooms booked directly with the hotel include a breakfast buffet with everything from house-made (and extremely popular) granola to fresh-made frittatas. How was the service? The pleasant and personable service is easily one of the nicest things about The Harraseeket. With a staff full of people who have worked here for decades, the Inn has an unusually warm, authentically caring approach to welcoming guests, and takes clear satisfaction in making sure they're comfortable and happy. That can be seen in everything from greetings guests who've been coming back for years by name to making sure guests find their cars in the parking lot after a big dinner. What type of travelers will you find here? The majority of Haraseeket guests return year after year—to hike and fly fish in the summer, snowshoe in the winter, and shop in Freeport. Weddings and corporate retreats are common on the property too. But there's a certain wholesomeness that's a little old fashioned afoot here, in a way that’s missed these days in many upscale establishments. And the clientele both appreciates and reflects that quality. What about the neighborhood? Does the hotel fit in, make itself part of the scene? The Haraseeket fits in perfectly on its stretch of Main Street. Set ever so slightly apart from the town's renowned retail shops (it's an extremely short walk away) it looks more like a large and refined home than a looming resort or hotel. Any other hotel features worth noting?Between the free parking, the complimentary afternoon tea by the fireplace, the heated indoor pool and outdoor fire pit, the fantastic locavore breakfast that's included in your room rate, the beautiful garden and nearly immediate access to Freeport's shops, there's plenty to set this property apart. But at the end of the day, the personal service from the entire staff may be the most special amenity it has. Bottom line: Worth it?100 percent worth it. For its bevy of perks and unusual touches, but mostly its personal charm." - Alexandra Hall

Came for dinner (HORRIBLE)...but that's the Broad Arrow Tavern. We were meeting friends and had a little wait for them to arrive. We took a seat in the fireplace sitting room, where this super young lady was setting up for "movie night." My friend wanted a cup of tea. The young lady was so accommodating and helpful. She really made the wait a fun time. Staff like this young lady should be praised. She understands guest service. Excellent! We did not stay in a room, so I could not comment there.

I don't know how this place has gotten the ratings it has. It was nothing like it appeared online in the pictures. When we walked in my heart sank. It was so run down it felt like we were staying in an old neglected economy motel. Battered furniture everywhere and old dirty carpet, walls and doors. Even the elevator was beat up and horrible. No coffee in the room. Luckily we only stayed one night. Couldn't wait to get out of there.

The vibe / ambience is great. The food is very solid. Breakfast (eggs bacon home Fries) was TOP NOTCH. Service is great. Shower pressure and warmth was very good. Heat is very good. The WiFi is strong. The tavern is great even if the bar is a little small but the food is very good. Highly recommend.

After being a guest at the Inn for 22 years (several times a year), it is with great sadness that I post this review.  The Gray Family sold the Inn in 2023; now, what used to be an experience of visiting our "home away from home" is now just like visiting a motel by the side of the road.  Gone are the special touches that made this place so memorable.  My daughter and I arrived on a Saturday night at the end of June, and she found parking no problem at all.  (Hint--this is due to lack of guests staying at the Inn.)  For the 10 nights we were there, the parking lot was never full or even close to it.  The new owners have definitely changed whatever they are washing the towels in because my sensitive skin broke out in a rash.  Carpeting in our room and throughout the Inn needed a good cleaning and was very worn looking.  Our carpet in our room had many stains that could have been removed with a good cleaning.  The mattresses appeared to be new, but did not offer a good night's sleep at all.   We requested that housekeeping change our towels every day and that our trash be picked up daily.  About mid way through our stay, we went almost 3 days until housekeeping showed up.  The Tavern has changed completely.  You can no longer get a steamed lobster nor can you get a pizza.  (They do have an open brick oven!!)  Previously in the Tavern, the food was true Maine cuisine and now they have tried to "make it fancy" and it's not what you would expect in a Tavern!   The majority of the employees that we had become such good friends with over the years are no longer there.  (One exception being Josh, who assisted us with checkout; he is a pleasant reminder of how the Inn used to be.)  The new owners need to change the name of this place because it is a "has been" and will never be the same again.  We will not be returning but we will take all of our good memories with us.  We have found another place to enjoy our time in Maine and we will stay in touch with all of our friends that we have made along the way.

My wife and I have been staying at the Harraseeket for years. The Harraseeket was a family run business for years, and always a delight. Recently the business was sold, with the promise of new and exciting upgrades to come. Here is what we found during our stay. First I noticed that room rates have increased substantially. What do you get for the increase in cost? Not much. The Main(e) dining room is closed for renovation, but it has been closed for years except for breakfast, so nothing new there except now it is not open for breakfast buffet either. Breakfast is now in the Broad Arrow Tavern, however the nice buffet is gone. There was a complimentary offering, there was fresh fruit and baked goods with coffee. If you want eggs or anything else off a limited menu, that is extra. The rooms we stayed in were exactly the same as they have been, no upgrades there. The Broad Arrow is open for lunch and dinner, wife had a salad she enjoyed, I had a lobster roll, expensive but not a whole lot different than anywhere else. The Inn has the same old carpeting, in the same condition although my wife felt it was a little cleaner than in the past. They now have bicycles guests can use, do not know if there is a fee associated as we did not use them. Interesting that now with the significantly higher room rates, I was told that a $25 per night "Resort Fee" would be added to my bill. When we arrived, a sign by the check in counter said the resort fee is $20. When I reviewed my bill, there was no line item for "Resort Fee", but there is a $32.70 charge for "Facility Fee". That fee is charged daily. I suspect that the Management of the Harraseeket came to the same conclusion we did, the fact that you can walk to the Freeport shops and LL Bean does not make the Harraseeket a resort. They do have a indoor pool and a outdoor firepit, but that is about all the resort amenities we observed. So for me, I will pass on the Harraseeket in the future. The Hampton is just down the hill, includes breakfast, no bogus fees, and no exorbitant room rates. Harraseeket has priced itself out of the market in my opinion. With the money saved at the Hampton I can pay for a nice dinner!

My husband & I stayed at the Harraseeket Inn many years ago when we first met. As part of our 25th wedding celebration we looked forward to returning to the Inn to make new memories. Sadly, it never happened. We booked a weekend stay in late July, ignorant of the fact that the Inn had been sold and was under new management. Immediately upon entering the Inn it was obvious things had changed - for the worse. The lobby was poorly lit, the carpeting was stained, staff was sloppily dressed and almost rude. Upon attempting to check in we were informed the Inn had no record of our reservation and had no rooms available, as they had two weddings going on. Despite presenting confirmation of our reservation the hotel clerk & night auditor (both of whom would have been out of place at a Motel 6, let alone a fine hotel) merely shrugged their shoulders & insisted there was nothing they could do, besides give us a refund. We spent the next several hours trying to find a room in high-season, fully booked Freeport. I would urge anyone to stay ANYWHERE else, besides here.

We have been going here for over twenty years and felt like family. The Greys were exceptional inn keepers and very community oriented and committed to the environment. In June of 2023 the Inn was sold to Giri Hotels |The rates have gone way up and the services have gone down. Breakfast is no longer included and the afternoon tea is dismal. Also a $25 per day resort fee is added. No housekeeping service either. The commitment to locally sourced food is gone. The breakfast was buffet style. The food was put out in bowls and cold. The meal in the Tavern was overpriced. No more homemade desserts and pastries. Apparently the pastry chef was let go.Many of the longterm staff have left. In the past the Easter weekend would be bustling with guests. We overheard staff members saying that leftover food from the Easter buffet was being thrown in the garbage. I asked a chef who was cutting out circles from slices of bread what he did with the leftover bread and he said garbage. With so many people suffering with food insecurity this breaks my heart. Sadly we won’t be returning. Before writing this review I reached out directly to the Giri Management Group and didn’t get a response. Obviously they are in it for money and do not care what guests think. The lack of guests during a usually busy holiday weekend tells the story.

We stayed here while visiting the Freeport area. The Inn is very well maintained. The common areas are welcoming - decorated with fresh flowers and seasonal decorations. The high tea in the drawing room is a nice bonus. The rooms are comfortable and clean. But what really makes this Inn are the employees- they are all very polite and helpful. A big shout out to James who ran the movie night and Michael the chef at breakfast. One thing is for sure, we will be back

Yelp
Fantastic inn. We had our wedding here and the experience was excellent. Our guests that stayed at the inn were raving about the accommodations and the great front desk staff. As for the wedding, the staff made it an amazing day and handled the onsite coordination. Thanks, Mara, Johann and team! Guests were raving about the meals (filet mignon, Halibut and a vegetarian option) and said the wedding was very memorable. I'd 100% recommend this inn as a wedding or conference/meeting venue. Your event(s) will be flawless and low-stress if you go with this venue. As for weddings, the inn has options for both indoor and outdoor ceremonies. Wedding florals are included, and the onsite florist, Mike, is incredibly talented.

Yelp
Superrrrr adorable Inn, we absolutely loved our stay here!! The Inn has a large fire pit with chairs outside, 2 fireplaces inside, a large dining room (with a breakfast buffet), a bar, indoor pool, and a gift shop. The staff were very welcoming and went out of their way to accommodate us. We felt "at home" during our stay, and would return again. Location is great, less than 5 minutes to downtown Freeport!!

Yelp
A great find in the heart of Freeport Maine. A wonderful visit: beautiful grounds, easy check in, ample free parking, within close walking distance to shopping and eateries, tea time in the afternoon (tea, sandwiches, baked goods and socialization) and a wonderful buffet breakfast included, a restaurant and indoor pool onsite. This place ticks all the boxes and more! We had a fantastic stay and will be back for sure.

Yelp
We have stayed here for almost 20 years and I agree with the folks who have compared the inn as it was to the inn as it is today. What was once a charming, welcoming and gracious place is now less hospitable and less comfortable than most national chains. The amenities and services are now extremely disappointing and hidden charges are quite shocking. Finally, for folks who need a pet friendly room, be sure to ask about the room. There is a reason that they don't include pictures of those rooms. We were quite shocked when we were given a tiny pet friendly room that had the bathtub directly next to the bed! Came in handy though. At least we had a place for our luggage!

Carlie Anne M.

Yelp
This is an incredible Inn! It was so picturesque and it was the perfect venue for our destination wedding! It can be so stressful planning a destination wedding when you live 2,000 miles from your venue, however Mara and the Harraseeket Staff made everything so easy! I would highly recommend the Inn for any events or just a nice weekend getaway! So many of our guests enjoyed all the quaint features and the history of the Inn. The location is in walking distances to so many of the restaurants and shops in Freeport! We did not want to leave!! We will be back for years to come to celebrate our anniversary!

Yelp
Super home feel, warm welcome. Will definitely stay again. Just what I was expecting in New England. Walking to everything

Yelp
So I really struggle with reading my last review and then this review. We recently went last week and it just didn't feel like the same place. People were not as nice and didn't seem to be too pleased that we had kids there. Our room was nice but the beds are exactly what you feel like you would get at your grandma's. But it was spacious overall and I love the location right near the window and seeing the outside. I don't know if it's just because they're not used to having kids, but everyone seem like it was an inconvenience. I am just not sure why. The pool was the same however, it was different temperatures every time we went in it. I like the fire outside and I like the afternoon tea, I think it was a great idea in general to attract people. However, the breakfast left much to be desired. The food was almost always not full and we had to wait 10 minutes to even get pancakes. I don't know if I'll be back again but I do love the location and I love the quaintness of it

Mike S.

Yelp
Things here have been slipping for a while. We reserve the same room year after year and next year's rate is up 53.7%. That doesn't include a new $30. resort fee and breakfasts that are now almost $23.00 each. The breakfasts have really gone down. The food is literally lukewarm and as such, not very appetizing. At the Braoadarrow, we went down for a table at 7:33pm, with signs saying that they stop seating at 8:30, only to have a girl tell us they 'decided' to change their hours to 7:30...3 minutes after we arrived. That was that. Seriously??!! Hopefully they quickly fix all the issues that have evolved over the years to offset the bizarre price increases.

Yelp
Awesome little place. We really enjoyed everything about this quint little hotel. When we first arrived there was a very small issue with our room. The staff were incredibly apologetic and instantly moved us to an upgraded room. All the staff we interacted with were incredibly polite. The place is comfortable but not ostentatious. The location is excellent and within walking distance of several eateries and shopping at the outlets even in 26 degree weather. We also attended a corporate function at the inn and I have to say that is some of the best food I've had at a hotel banquet facility. We will definitely stay here again when we find ourselves back in town

Henry S.

Yelp
I do not normally write reviews unless I either had a superb experience or an awful one, and this one was much closer to the latter. I came here with my mother for 2 nights and we were sincerely disappointed is to say the very least. Before I get into everything wrong with this stay, I will briefly discuss the actual redeeming qualities of the establishment just so you understand that I'm not being overly harsh. The facade of the hotel as well as the lobby and tea area are legitimately quite nice, and do feel quite historic in its essence. Additionally, the staff themselves were quite hospitable and were accommodating when things were requested, and the location of the hotel is probably the biggest draw, but this is as far as the positives go. Those 3 factors of the stay are the only thing preventing this from being a 1 star review. Anyway let's get into it. As aforementioned, the lobby and facade of the Harraseeket do give off quite a historic feel, but upon checking in to our room, it felt much more like a road hotel. Additionally, the room was not vacuumed sufficiently and looked as though it had been cleaned with indifference, which is quite frankly unacceptable when you are paying this much per night (which I will get to later). Now admittedly, if the room was the only qualm then it really wouldn't have been that bad, except it unfortunately gets much much worse. My mother loves to swim and the pool at this inn is a well known draw for the place, however it is currently CLOSED INDEFINITELY, which we were not informed of in any manner prior to arrival. Anyway, aside from the initial disappointment, we were still quite hopeful as to the quality of the hotel and the many amenities that were supposedly offered. After we got ourselves situated in the room we went down for the afternoon tea, where we were greeted with pastries that would be described as painfully mediocre, and some of them were flat out bland and stale. Upon realizing the quality of the tea time itself, we left the hotel and went into the main of Freeport (which is about a 5 minute walk), where we had a nice time and some better food. Upon the next day, we were looking forward to the "delicious breakfast" that was advertised, that we were told to make reservations for (which we did). When we went down to go to our breakfast, we were treated to a short line, which was quite surprising given the fact that supposedly all of the guests had reserved a time for their complementary breakfasts. Even more ironic, it was quite astounding that you even had to wait to be seated in the first place given the fact that the "delicious breakfast" was in reality a pretty standard breakfast buffet, and was not even of high quality. While the waitstaff was quite pleasant, the food itself was not remotely worth its supposed value. Additionally relating to breakfast, we were served incredibly bad coffee to the point that I didn't even finish a full mug (which is saying something as I love coffee). Following breakfast we went to spend the day in Portland (which I would highly recommend), and did not return until around 6-7pm. Upon our return, we found that housekeeping had not come to our room and had thus not replaced any of our towels. Now this was quite surprising to us, so my mother went down to ask about this. She was informed that there was a "sign in the bathroom". This so called "sign in the bathroom", was in reality a literal sticker on the bathroom mirror where in very small text it mentions that if you want housekeeping services they must be requested. The next morning the breakfast quality was a little better, but the coffee was still just as bad, and the line to be seated was twice as long. Standing in the line did provide me with some valuable information, as I was able to speak with a guest of the hotel who had been coming for 20+ years, who informed me that the previous owner had passed away about 3 years ago, and the hotel officially came under new management about 3 months ago. This made a lot more sense to me, as when reading about this hotel I had only ever seen good things, and was incredibly surprised by the experience we were receiving. For reference, she agreed that she would not be returning again. In conclusion, this hotel is absolutely NOT the hotel that it once used to be, and the new owner is absolutely capitalizing on its historic appeal and prior reputation as a complete and total cash grab. To call this hotel a rip off would be an understatement. Again, I don't blame the staff, and am sympathetic toward the breakfast restaurant as they are understaffed, but I most certainly am not going to act as though that is not a management issue. I would strongly advise that you NOT rely on older reviews as the hotel is sincerely not offering the same quality of experience as it once did, and if I were you I wouldn't be paying near $500 a night (after taxes) for terrible coffee, mediocre breakfast, poor internet, and no room service.

Tamara B.

Yelp
Used to be a nice place for a special weekend or visit. Now completely cheap. The old Harraseeket is gone. They make you pay a deposit because when you see what they have done you will cancel the rest of your stay. Do not expect to get what you booked. We cancelled the rest of our stay and will be at the Hilton. Hope they do better. Tell you later about the tea.

Kendra W.

Yelp
Located on Main Street this hotel is a family generational owned and managed hotel. If you book directly through them you get free breakfast which is a full spread. We live local so have only dined there. They have beautiful outdoor seating by fire pit, indoor dining, full bar. We love their breakfast which used to be a buffet. Now its a buffet you order off a menu. Includes coffee or beverage. Our meal included scrambled eggs, toast, granola, bacon, fried potatoes and white chocolate blueberry pancakes. They are open for Thanksgiving. Reverse Buffet until 2:30pm and dining off menu after 5.

Michael L.

Yelp
Best lobster rolls in the region. The price is better than most places. Perfect spot for lunch.

Tim A.

Yelp
Am giving the inn 2 stars because the front desk staff was very attentive and fast, and they had a busy weekend. Free breakfast was quite generous. They let us park in 15 minute parking over night both nights. We paid around $390 /night, all in. There were frustrations. Never saw anyone who could help with our bags. Saw one staff person, once, with a luggage cart on elevator. Just as well, since single elevator in main building was already woefully slow, small and inadequate for the number of guests. TV was small for the room. The biggest problem, by far, was with card keys. Normally wouldn't bother writing about that, but when you're on a tight schedule, and you can't be late, it's a big deal when they immediately stop working. They were usable once, at most. Got locked into the the fitness room twice, locked out of room each time I left. Had the key redone or had to be let in or out, 5 times in less than 48 hours. Wasn't doing anything unusual. These are good people. If you're paying $390 / night, however, it's reasonable to expect these things to be right. Hence he stars.

Ray I.

Yelp
Certainly a quaint, and well-located Inn. Good access to the rest of the town. The staff is quite challenging at times however; whether the slow and confused check-in, to the service staff who on more than one occasion couldn't direct us to certain meeting rooms in their own Inn, to the restaurant and bar staff that just couldn't wait to close down...for a very steep $300 a night, service needs to be much, much better than it is. Another visit to the area will include a search for a B&B or some other accommodation. Is recommend at least considering another option to anyone visiting as well.

George H.

Yelp
Used to be a great place to eat. Loved to go there for the Indian pudding which was the best. They no longer make and the food was a giant disappointment. Not the same. Very sad.

Sandy D.

Yelp
Awesome! Great location, accommodations and food. Planning a girls trip there later this year.

Koli S.

Yelp
I'm so happy my husband booked this place for my birthday evening get away in Freeport, ME. We got to bring out two furr babies which was the icing on top of the cake. Very well taken care of, our pups too, the service was efficient and everyone was friendly. Room temperature was nice and the accommodations were also comfortable, we had a nice room overlooking the terrace. If i stayed here again I just wouldn't order room service (see my review at the Broad Arrow Tavern) - but location within the town was great! Very convenient.

Sarah Y.

Yelp
I downloaded Yelp just to write this review. My husband and I stayed at the Harraseeket Inn two weekends ago for an early anniversary celebration. We also brought our dog , Finn. This beautiful inn is in an amazing location, just a short walk to stores, restaurants, and more. The Harraseeket was dog friendly and super accessible for dog owners! They gave us a fresh fruit basket to celebrate our anniversary. They also called my husband after I left my AirPods in the room and mailed them to us! I cannot say enough great things about this place! 10/10 would recommend and can't wait to go back!

JC A.

Yelp
Our return to the Harraseeket Inn was marred by the closing of the main kitchen, which affected our morning breakfast. At least our room was what we did reserve- a spacious room with a queen bed, room fridge, and fully equipped bathroom. Sleep quality was nice, the room was quiet and comfortable, the bedding and pillows were comfortable, contributing to a good night's sleep. My only quip was that our room came with a big soaking tub. We take showers, so climbing into this big tub was difficult. But the closing of the main kitchen meant that Harraseeket Inn had to offer an alternative way to get their guests the complimentary breakfast. So, in the meeting room off the main lobby, they set up a catered breakfast. One morning the staff ran out of bottled water. Then there were no tables in this space to eat this food in a relaxed manner. There were no cereal offerings- a bad omission. Coffee was awful the first morning, OK the next. At least they had Greek yogurt and fresh fruit. Also orange juice. One morning featured sausages, the next featured bacon. They also featured these eggy frittatas, one morning a Mexican-themed frittata which, the host said, should have a dollop of sour cream added to it. We don't eat frittatas. Our "loss", I guess. Overall, this is a far cry from their usual breakfast buffet, which used to be one of my favorites among hotels. Still, we liked this hotel. It's in a great location, walking distance from L. L. Bean and the other Freeport outlets.

Yelp
We recently got married up not far outside of Worcester MA and had our reception at the Harraseeket Inn. All our guests stayed at the Harraseeket as well. It was such a lovely stay. Everything was great. The food at both the Tavern and the breakfast was very fresh and both venues were well kept. The staff was amazing, huge shout out to Chris, Jen, Karen and Laurel for helping us get the rooms and events set up. The rooms were very cozy. They have tea time from 3:30-4:30 each day which allows for socialization between guests. They also have pet friendly rooms. I would highly recommend the Harraseeket Inn to anyone who is looking to stay in the area!

Yelp
We have been going to The Harraseeket Inn for 25 years. Each and every time we stay, we are treated like family. Our last trip was the 1st weekend Maine lifted the travel restrictions for Ct, NY and NJ residents. Some of the little touches were lost because of the Covid restrictions, but overall it was still a nice relaxing stay. Penny at the front desk is so friendly and kind. We ate at the Broad Arrow Tavern and Robin was excellent. I truly hope they can continue to move forward and recover from the Corona shutdown. We always look forward to our trips.

Yelp
There was always something comfortable about coming back to the Harraseeket Inn that drew us back several times. The immaculately manicured grounds, the pleasant staff, but most of all, The Broad Arrow Tavern. If you were looking for comfort, it was the place to go. Our most recent visit found the same welcoming staff, a lovely afternoon tea service, a welcoming fire pit, but since we hadn't visited in a few years, some things changed. Too many places fall back on the convenient "COVID" excuse but the things we found less than acceptable were avoidable. The Tavern no longer serves tavern food. Perhaps the new chef is trying to make his own mark, leaving the once-cherished favorites in the dust bin for new dishes which do not make any sense. The lobster stew had the consistency of water. Maybe COVID has caused some downsizing of the menu but the character of the food has been gutted. You can get a Caesar salad but only if you like it with warm lettuce. Too many new chefs try to put their fingerprints on something they should be hands off with and portions of the old menu should be returned. The gym wasn't available our entire stay. Probably most disappointing we're the "dated" rooms. You can find better value 15 minutes south in Portland with many superior restaurants.

Yelp
Michelle is great at her job. Make you ask for her & tip her very generously. She deserves special attention from management. The Haddock was awesome.

Yelp
Great place with a friendly atmosphere. Close to the LLBean store and other Freeport attractions. Front desk staff was very friendly and went above and beyond (especially Chris). The restaurant had amazing food and was a good atmosphere.

Yelp
We have stayed at the Harraseeket Inn many times over the last ten years. We have always found them welcoming and don't recall any complaints about the room or service. The food and service at the Broad Arrow Tavern and the dining room are also great. Although the Inn is a short walk to the shopping area including LL Bean, the Inn itself feels somehow secluded.

Yelp
This review is for the Tavern, which my children and I visited this past weekend. I had stayed in the Inn and been to the tavern years ago pre-yelp, and they are still delivering great food in a cozy setting at reasonable prices. It is not 'cheap', but be value is high for the quality received for sure. We had planned on eating light but that didn't happen :-), the portions were much larger than expected and we tapped out. Daughter #1 ordered clam chowder, and calamari. I took a taste of the clam chowder and I think that it's the best I've ever had. The calamari was coated I believe in corn starch only and was super tender and served with a sweet chili sauce. Daughter #2 had a grilled chicken sandwich with fries and enjoyed it very much. Daughter #3 had the BLT with lobster and fries, she loved it I had the small lobster roll with sweet potato fries and thought it was excellent. The fries were deeply cooked and crunchy which is sometimes hard to get with sweet potatoes. The wait staff is excellent and I highly recommend the establishment!

Yelp
We could not have been more pleased. Our room was clean, the Hotel was charming and our visit was just wonderful. I would recommend this place for anyone looking in the Freeport area. A special shout out to Penny. We could not have asked for friendlier, more positive help during our entire stay. A bright spot in your organization who should be recognized for her upbeat attitude. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you again.

Yelp
We didn't stay at Inn but had a wonderful lunch on their patio. Everything was fresh and well prepared, service was excellent and prices reasonable. I had baked haddock sandwich, loved that they gave option of baked instead of just fried. Sweet potato fries were some of the best I've had - not greasy at all, crispy on outside and tender inside. Didn't get chance of trying what others in our party ordered, they all polished off their dishes (pizza, baked mac and cheese with broccoli, and lobster stew).

Yelp
Broad Arrow Tavern: A few issues, one being a mouse running around the dining room, but he was cute. Second, they forgot the caper berries in the cesar salad and didn't seem to concerned; third, the nights special, the "lobster stuffed haddock with scallion basmati rice and wilted greens" sounds good, right? Let me break it down. There was no lobster stuffing. There were bits of lobster flecked on my rice, which was brown, not basmati, with no scallions. When I mentioned it, they brought me over a dish is scallions. Haha, as if that was the fix. Fish dry and overcooked, not fresh tasting. But why say stuffing if you aren't serving stuffing? You used to get good rolls and bread, we just got these doughy knots. Sub par, and kitchen staff just phoning it in. Our waitress was actually annoyed with ME for bringing up the mistakes.

Yelp
This has always been our favorite place to stay when in Maine. The food is great, the gardens are beautiful. We recently adopted a dog and found the inn offers pet-friendly accommodations. What a treat and we couldn't be happier.

Yelp
What a wonderful experience. 4 of us had lunch at the Broad Arrow Tavern last Friday. This restaurant doesn't accept reservations but ( while it was crowded ) we were seated promptly. The atmosphere is cozy with a large moose head mounted on a pillar in the middle of the room. The menu is extensive and is supplemented by an elaborate buffet. We started with draft beers. I ordered the fish and chips which contained 2 large pieces of haddock and the typical french fries. The haddock was cooked to perfection. The serving was huge and I ended up taking half of it home. Two in our party ordered fish tacos - again, cooked perfectly, and again good sized. The fourth person in our party opted for the Rueben, which he said was delicious. Our waitress, Peggie, was both friendly and efficient. If there was a negative, there were 2 sets of glass doors at the entrance which could have been automated for the benefit of handicapped patrons. My wife and I had difficulty managing them since I'm in a wheelchair. We'll definitely return.

Yelp
Subday buffet is BIG time. Excellent. Inn has a beautiful garden. The Tavern style restaurant is also lovely and has outdoor seating that is dog friendly. Lovely place. They have some dog friendly hotel rooms also. Grest place in Maine. All-you-can eat Maine lobster at the Sunday and holiday buffets. Nuff said

Yelp
Middle of the road New England hotel The Harraseekit Inn seemed like it would be quite amazing from the internet. AAA 4 diamond rating for many years, Travel and Leisure write ups a few years back, indoor pool, afternoon tea, breakfast buffet included in the room rate. The building is colonial revival which gives it the authentic New England vibe. Our experience was middle of the road. The inn is quaint and workers are overall quite friendly. Check in was handled well and the front desk offered advice on what to do for the afternoon. The entrance lobby is old but not in a cute or lavish historical way as seen in most 4 diamond properties. It seemed like it needed a little renovation/refresh. The rooms are in good shape, of a good size, and have quality Thomasville furniture. However, they are sorely in need of a refresh. The rooms are all circa 1980s. That might be fine for a true B&B in the countryside but this is a decent sized hotel near Portland. I will say the bed was nice and comfortable, which is important when traveling. The afternoon tea was decent with a good array of snack with the tea. The line can get a bit long, so show up right when it starts. Also, when we were there, it appeared some guests were trying to save money and skip dinner or they missed lunch as they took as many treats as possible multiple trips. The staff did their best to restock as quick as possible. The breakfast was definitely a big disappointment. The baked goods were terrible, over cooked, utterly tasteless, or both. I think they forgot to add sugar to the muffin batter. The yogurt had turned and was getting smelly and bitter. The hot items (eggs, bacon, etc.) were ok but no better than Double Tree, Marriott, Hilton, etc. Thank goodness breakfast was included in the room rate when you book through their site. I would suggest skipping and going to a cute place nearby in Freeport. I certainly would not pay for their breakfast. Overall Harraseeket Inn is a decent hotel in need of a refresh. I am not sure how it keeps its 4 diamond rating. It is definitely the least impressive 4 diamond property I have stayed at across the US.

Yelp
My sisters, my aunt and I stay here every year. This year we had an issue with housekeeping. The owner/manager got involved and handled our issue professionally and well beyond our expectstions. Heading back in 2020!

Yelp
This is our goto place in Freeport ME. We would not stay anywhere else!! The rooms are charming and clean. We sometimes travel with our golden retriever and their pet friendly rooms are some of the nicest we've stayed at. They do an amazing job with the upkeep and have some of the best housekeeping staff around. Their afternoon tea and breakfast should not be missed. The afternoon tea consisted of a delicious fruit tray, fresh finger sandwiches, a gourmet selection of cheeses, and freshly baked cookies, a blueberry soda bread, and brownies. Not to mention an amazing tea selection. Very well done. When you think they can't top the afternoon tea, wait until you have their breakfast! So good! The blueberry muffins were to die for. The eggs, sausages, and bacon could not be better. We even tried the gluten-free pumpkin bread and it was delicious. They also offered hot and cold cereals, yogurt, pancakes, fruit, etc. but we were too full to indulge. During our latest visit we noticed the owner greeting his guests at breakfast. He was very warm and personable. I could go on and on but the bottom line is that if you are in need of a little New England getaway and want to experience the charm of a Maine Inn with a touch of luxury the Harraseeket Inn is the place for you.

Yelp
Went to the broad arrow tavern today with my mother in law. She was raving about the place. I was at the buffet (open concept kitchen) and an older cook was coughing all over the food while he prepared it. Did not cover his mouth, and coughed/hacked multiple times right over the grill and directly onto the food he was prepating .... while I stood in disbelief at the buffet. Yes this probably happens in every restaurant kitchen. But to witness it while you are 3 feet away was pretty darn gross.

Yelp
Inn patronizes a very mature crowd, lots of snow birds here. Nights stay includes a bland breakfast with a rather apathetic(well to me anyways) but they are friendly. There is no gym and the lower levels reek of a seafood smell. The rooms are very outdated bad don't allow you to control your. Room temperature. Food is average at best and very overpriced. Also, helps not to be a minority, the guest and staff don't see'em often and stare.... a lot.

Yelp
We came to L.L. Bean Mecca hungry and in need of a bite. I'm not reviewing the Four Diamond hotel, which looks like it's worthy of a stay, but its restaurant, the Broad Arrow Tavern. The Broad Arrow Tavern, named after the tall virgin timber that used to be cut for sailing ship masts from the nearby forests, is a dark, cozy, kitschy room filled with everything from canoe paddles and geese decoys to the large, and, my daughter, who stared back at it for some time, would say quite intimidating stuffed moose head over our table. I had one of the best lobster rolls that I've ever had, with sweet, well cooked meat and not too much dressing. The lobster stew was likewise a winner. My wife had the chowdah and it was also top drawer, full of cream and a touch of bacon good enough to be banned by Heart Associations everywhere, but loved on a cold spring day. The buffet looked like a pass, but the menu itself, which sports the names of the local farms and fish suppliers from which they buy, has a lot of dishes that you'll find really exceptional with a sold four-star kitchen Service was prompt, and just a step above coffee shop courtesy in the functional department. These gals are busy, and you will know it, even if you don't want to. Still, the glasses got filled, the plates taken away, so all-in-all, a good enough experience there. Parking was easy in the back, a stone's throw from shopping central, and it sits right at the entry to town, so it is hard to miss it. We'll come back.

Yelp
Stayed here for 3 weeks on an IT training gig my employer paid for. Classy, tons of New England charm, quiet and impeccably clean! I was very impressed with the breakfast buffet.Walking distance to 'downtown' Freeport, and very close to the Interstate.Only grip is that the snow blowers would frickin BURY my car in the morning! #$%@! One of the best Inns I've stayed in.

Cory Z.

Yelp
The taverns lunch buffet is excellent! I was in town again after probably 10 years and this place still has one of the best lunch buffets around. I can't speak highly enough about the food here.

Yelp
This place has become my wife's favorite place to chill out. Right on Main Street and close to shopping. We stay here once and sometimes twice a year when in Boston on family business. Freeport is an easy 2-hour drive from Boston and affords us a couple quiet days to ourselves. Afternoon tea with fruits, cheeses, cookies and other goodies almost negates the need for dinner if you allow (but don't fall into that trap because there are lots of great restaurants in the area, including the Broad Arrow Tavern right in the inn). Having a drink in the lobby before bedtime is a great way to close out the day. The entire inn has a quaint, charming feel to it. Staff are always pleasant, rooms are clean, comfortable and well furnished. And we find ourselves looking forward to seeing what mischief the piano-playing polar bear is up to next.

Yelp
The Harraseeket Inn is a splendid hotel. It is warm in temperature and in the friendliness of its staff. All of the rooms are beautiful and have all of the amenities. There are rooms on the first floor, a lap pool, and a small exercise room. Afternoon tea with sandwiches and cakes is served in a room filled with plush chairs, sofas, and a bright cheerful fire. But it is the food served in The Maine Dining Room and The Broad Arrow Tavern that is the star of the establishment. The food is fresh and flavorful, innovative and beautifully presented. A bountiful breakfast buffet is served and is absolutely superb. This inn features organic, locally-sourced food. A stay at The Harraseeket Inn is a wonderful stay.

Yelp
Freezing cold Thanksgiving Buffet. I'm talking about the food, not outside. Thanks for a horrible thanksgiving. $160. Hilarious.

Yelp
Chose Harraseeket Inn based on positive reviews here, but our stay wasn't optimal. The good: Inviting main entrance and lobby. The front desk staff was great. Dined at Maine Harvest for dinner on Friday and it was stellar - I'd give it five stars. Both our meals were excellent with terrific service. We ate at the Broad Arrow Tavern on Saturday and enjoyed it as well. Their pizza is really good. The not as good: Turns out our room was in the carriage house, not the Inn. Not a deal breaker, but two issues with room made our stay uncomfortable. One, The carriage house is near the the busy Hwy One. Our room was the closest to road, with head of bed facing the wall. As it wasn't well sound-proofed, traffic noise on a busy Friday and Saturday night was loud. I'd say our heads were about thirty feet from street. Two, it's a pet friendly hotel. Again, not a deal-breaker per se - I'm a dog owner and lover. However, the guest across the hall had a dog that startled easily and barked/whined intermittently. We were walking on eggshells to not set him off. It didn't make for a relaxing time in our room and disrupted sleep along with constant noise of traffic. The room itself was sweet, if a little small. The decor is comfortable and we loved having a fireplace in room. My guess is that if we had booked a higher end room I'd be writing a four or five star review right now, but for the lower priced rooms it was a disappointment for the cost. We were looking forward to a couple of special nights on the last weekend of vacation, but were exhausted by the time we checked out. Final note: some reserved parking for guests would be nice. It was raining hard when we arrived. The entire back lot was full and we had to park very far away.

Yelp
Absolutely delightful. Great hospitality in a beautiful property. Sunday brunch was a highlight. You can't go wrong here. This is how hotels are supposed to be staffed and operated.

Scott B.

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful, clean and classic Maine. The food could not have been better.

Yelp
On the recommendation of some friends, my wife made reservations. I wanted her to cancel them because of the weather forecast but she wouldn't. She signed us up for some sort of meal plan, which I highly recommend. We have eaten in the main restaurant, and in the tavern as well. This plan also comes with breakfast, and an afternoon tea with desserts is included. Everyone here goes out of their way to make you feel comfortable, and to get you to return. My wife left her pocketbook, with all of her money, in the dining room. They returned it promptly! Our car was covered in snow, they cleaned it! This place is amazing. Great accommodations, great food, great value. Five stars for sure!

Yelp
If I could move in here FOREVER I would. The staff is the best -- Penny at the front desk is the sweetest lady in Maine. The rooms are elegant -- lovely and clean bedding, large tv's, mini fridge upon request. The rooms with a fireplace are exceptional. The breakfast buffet is not to be missed: Fresh yoghurt & granola Fresh blueberry muffins Fruit salad Baked beans Pancakes or french toast Frittata Scrambled eggs Roasted potatoes Bacon & sausage Need I say more?????? I suggest ordering room service by your fireplace (pizza & fish are yummy)
