We were quite unsure of this lodge when we first arrived - it is right on the main street of Glenorchy, and the composting toilets were most unusual. BUT - it turned out to be one of our very favorite stays during a three-week NZ visit. The rooms were rustic and luxurious all at once. The building materials and decor are all reclaimed materials, some from the earthquake that leveled Christchurch. The best part was the staff that were very helpful, warm and friendly (shoutout to Eve) and the chefs (Pete and DJ) were most memorable personalities. The food was all it was cracked up to be. The tiny town of Glenorchy was a great treat, as were the activities (hiking, jet boat experience, and ice cream tasting). Go there!

Our family really enjoyed staying at the Headwaters Eco Lodge. Incredible surroundings in the small scenic town located in the most beautiful part of the world. The staff is very friendly and does so many things around the property. The dinner is definitely the best meal in town, so highly recommend at least one dinner on the property. |Highlight of our trip to New Zealand!

A fantastic lodge in a beautiful location. We choose the hotel based on excellent reviews. The room was beautiful and the staff very friendly but at times not enough of them. They tried to do everything to make our stay amazing. |On our first evening we ordered pre dinner drinks but they never came. Breakfast was brilliant, a large choice and all delicious. |Dinner was great but it would have been nice to see the menu in advance so we can pick out any dislikes. We stayed for two nights and the menu was very similar. Turkey with chestnuts both nights with seasonal veg. Dessert came with coconut and miso gelato both nights too. Not great when two out of three in our party don’t like nights. On the Christmas Eve special event the canapés weren’t suitable for vegetarians and the side of vegetables arrived as we were finishing. |We would return as the setting was beautiful and the philosophy is wonderful. The serving staff just need more support when it’s busy. |Loved the laundry room to refresh some clothes and that they left little welcome gifts in the room. The room was spotless. Lots of nice spots to read a book or sit by a fire. Plus a good selection of wines to choose from.

My husband & I stayed here for 4 nights in October. It was a wonderful and totally unique experience in the most beautiful surroundings. Our cabin was unlike anything we had stayed in before, very cosy, comfortable with total peace and quiet. Every member of staff was friendly, professional and could not have done more. The food was also excellent at breakfast and dinner. Our thanks to the whole team. It was just perfect.

The Headwaters Eco Lodge is truly a once in a lifetime experience. The service is absolutely exceptional. From greeting you on arrival, making barista coffee with alternative milk, to helping book nearby activities - the team are outstanding. The food was another standout. Chef DJ made the standout, incredible meals for breakfast and dinner. All praise to him for his outstanding meals and friendly attitude, happy to make anything we requested. The lodge itself is very sustainable and environmentally friendly. Composting, rainwater and solar power are all key features. However it still feels luxurious. I was extremely impressed.

The service is exceptional from the moment you arrive you understand why the reviews are so strong. Hannah is very welcoming and is a positive person. The breakfast and dinner food was a revelation Simon is an exceptional chef. This was possibly our favourite hotel in New Zealand. Everything is spot on plus Glenorchy is on your doorstep too. An excellent place.

Such an amazing set up and space. The common areas are beautifully spacious and well thought out with views down the valley, and the rooms are comfortable and clean. Each lodge is unique and the staff were helpful and welcoming. Dom in the kitchen was brilliant, the 4 course dinners were some of the best we had during our time in NZ. Thanks to Hannah too for looking after us on our honeymoon. Would highly recommend staying at Headwaters.
