We had the most amazing time at headwaters Eco Lodge, the food was amazing and the hosts so friendly and welcoming. We travelled with our 5 year old and he absolutely loved it too! We loved all the special details and Sustainability features around the lodge. Recommending this to all our friends and we’ll be back.

We ended up in Glenorchy on a whim after we had to reschedule our trip. It quickly become a highlight. The team at Headwaters were so welcoming, everything was above and beyond and dinner was the best meal of our trip. We still talk about it and can’t wait to be back (for more than one night!)

We are a family of 4. 2 older boys , and we all LOVED it! Honestly one of the best meals I have ever had! The chef is amazing. The hospitality is wonderful. Very relaxing , or can be adventurous also. Boys took a helicopter ride to the glaciers. |Lodge property had amazing views!

Didn't know what to expect but in the end was very pleasantly surprised.|Accommodation was first rate with very comfortable and well appointed rooms. |We also had the chefs meal also great.|The story behind the lodge is interesting in itself where the original developers ( Paul and Debbi Brainerd) have gifted the lodge into a charitable trust where any profits are kept in the community.|The lodge looks low tech but the actual tech driving things was impressive to the point the lodge is net positive.|Great stay and great story

We were quite unsure of this lodge when we first arrived - it is right on the main street of Glenorchy, and the composting toilets were most unusual. BUT - it turned out to be one of our very favorite stays during a three-week NZ visit. The rooms were rustic and luxurious all at once. The building materials and decor are all reclaimed materials, some from the earthquake that leveled Christchurch. The best part was the staff that were very helpful, warm and friendly (shoutout to Eve) and the chefs (Pete and DJ) were most memorable personalities. The food was all it was cracked up to be. The tiny town of Glenorchy was a great treat, as were the activities (hiking, jet boat experience, and ice cream tasting). Go there!

A fantastic lodge in a beautiful location. We choose the hotel based on excellent reviews. The room was beautiful and the staff very friendly but at times not enough of them. They tried to do everything to make our stay amazing. |On our first evening we ordered pre dinner drinks but they never came. Breakfast was brilliant, a large choice and all delicious. |Dinner was great but it would have been nice to see the menu in advance so we can pick out any dislikes. We stayed for two nights and the menu was very similar. Turkey with chestnuts both nights with seasonal veg. Dessert came with coconut and miso gelato both nights too. Not great when two out of three in our party don’t like nights. On the Christmas Eve special event the canapés weren’t suitable for vegetarians and the side of vegetables arrived as we were finishing. |We would return as the setting was beautiful and the philosophy is wonderful. The serving staff just need more support when it’s busy. |Loved the laundry room to refresh some clothes and that they left little welcome gifts in the room. The room was spotless. Lots of nice spots to read a book or sit by a fire. Plus a good selection of wines to choose from.
