Headwaters Glenorchy Eco Lodge

Absolutely loved our stay at Headwaters Eco Lodge. It’s one of those rare places that feels both beautifully designed and genuinely grounded in nature. The chalets are calm, warm, and thoughtfully built — you immediately relax the moment you walk in. What stood out most was how naturally the sustainability is integrated. It never feels forced — it simply enhances the experience and makes the whole stay feel more intentional and restorative. The food was exceptional, easily some of the best we had in the area, and the team created such a warm, authentic atmosphere without any fuss. If you’re staying near Glenorchy and want somewhere peaceful, nourishing, and quietly special, this place is a gem.

My first visit to New Zealand, and The Headwaters Eco Lodge was by far the highlight of my trip. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the warmth of the staff and the care put into every detail. The daily yoga classes offered a peaceful start to each morning, followed by a gourmet breakfast that was both fresh and beautifully prepared. Dinner was equally outstanding — creative, locally sourced, and served with genuine hospitality. The General Store next door is a true gem, filled with local products and delicious treats that reflect the lodge’s commitment to sustainability and community. I admire The Headwaters’ mission and dedication to energy efficiency. It’s rare to find a place that combines comfort, conscience, and culinary excellence so seamlessly. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a rejuvenating and inspiring stay in New Zealand.

We loved our stay at Headwaters. It's a one of a kind location, with a real commitment to the environment. Their ability to provide a luxury experience while being net zero impact is something to behold. The cottages were great with everything you need, were clean and quiet. It's well located, not far from anything in Glenorchy and a short drive to Paradise and a number of other great outdoor activities. The restaurant was a highlight of our trip to NZ, fixed menus but some fantastic dishes. They also did a great job accommodating our one and four-year old.

We had our intimate wedding at the Headwaters and it was breathtaking! We had the most amazing experience with the beautiful lodge having so many incredible spaces for the guests to enjoy different atmospheres and beautiful scenery. The staff were extremely welcoming, hard working and highly skilled. The food was breathtakingly delicious, and the entire day was more than perfect! A huge thank you to Kirsty and Chef Dj for your hard work and making our dreams come true! We will definitely come back soon!

We loved the Eco Lodge. The whole principle of taking care of the environment by using less water and solar panels to minimise electricity demand is to be commended. The rooms are great and furnished with re-used items. The compostable toilets are amazingly effective. The service is fantastic. Great food at breakfast with wholesome choices. The location is lovely for great choice of hiking trails. We did day walks on the Routeburn track and Greenstone Road which we would thoroughly recommend. The scenery is gorgeous to drive through and you can easily get to Queenstown and the airport for scenic flights. Also the nearby general store is ideal for packed lunches, coffees and ice cream after a good walk

Enjoyed a fabulous brunch at headwaters eco lodge. Really enjoyed the idea of the lodge and how they take of the planet with small little acts of love. From the compost, to the garden to kitchen concept, to the way the toilets are created and managed that is most beneficial to the planet as well as solar panels. This is reinventing future hospitality and a new way to travel. Enjoyed the first Sunday of the month brunch with my friends. Happy to be able to share this space with them and find someplace new in Queenstown to enjoy as a local.

It was our first trip to the New Zealand and I went back and forth about whether or not to stay a few days in Glenorchy. We definitely made the right decision, and staying at the Headwaters Glenorchy Eco Lodge was one of the highlights of our entire trip. It's an amazing accommodation with excellent service and dining. We can't wait to return!

Amazing location, amazing staff and amazing healthy and delicious food. |There is a gorgeous store called Mrs Woollies across the road for even more beautiful food, gifts and homewares. Staff are very helpful with all of the local attractions, booking experiences and local knowledge to make sure everything is stress free. Accommodation is clean and lovely. Very impressed with the bathroom/ toilet set ups especially if you have to share a room.
