Visited here twice on my short trip to Salzburg. The first time, had to grab some coffees and breakfast to go. Got the oat cappuccino and vegan porridge and was a great start to my day. The staff were super nice too! The second time, I was able to enjoy a casual breakfast on a Sunday morning and my partner and I had a very pleasant time. Got the vegan delight breakfast and heart of joy sandwich with oat cappuccinos and the spread was beautiful and super tasty. Everyone was having a nice time that morning. Will miss this place ❤️

Very good for gluten free food, the portions were very good. Drinks were really tasty would 100% recommend. We sat outside and they gave us blankets the service was perfect.

Google
Best place in Salzburg to have Vegetarian/Vegan Food. For our Bruch here we ordered Falafel Wrap filled with vegetables, homemade falafel and Tahini-sauce, mixed salad on the side, Farmer’s omelette 2 eggs with onions, fresh vegetables, mushrooms, ciabatta & butter, coffee and Fresh Fruit juice. The triple apple, carrot, ginger Juice was so fresh and refresing. The ambience is really nice with a comfortable & cozy indoor seating as well as outdoor seating. This place has such pure & divine vibes. Must visit place in Salzburg.

The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff were exceptionally friendly. The menu offered a great variety of healthy options, including fresh fruits, whole-grain cereals, and delicious avocado toast. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared and delicious. It was a perfect start to the day, highly recommend it!

Yelp
So good, I ate here 3 times! We did breakfast two days and I got a lunch to take on the train. The gluten-free bread is great on the pesto sandwich. I also tried it as french toast, it wasn't bad... but you know it wasn't made for sweet. The omelette is big. My husband and I split one. But let me tell you about the gluten free carrot cake! Omg, I should have bough the whole cake and not a slice. The frosting is a lemon based and so yummy. I also got a brownie for the road. The staff spoke English well and the place is bright and cute. Focusing on the word Joy. This is very close to Mirabell Palace if you need breakfast or lunch. Close to where the original Sound of Music tour starts and ends.

Yelp
This restaurant in a nice neighborhood on the hills above the river was a great find for gluten free food. We went for a late lunch and sat outside. I had the house salad with fried tofu and gluten free bread plus we tried the carrot soup - delicious and also had a fresh carrot, ginger, apple juice.

Yelp
I'm not vegan or vegetarian but this was my favorite meal during our European travels - organic lentils with rice and salad. The food tasted very fresh. Ambiance and service were all great as well!

Yelp
Lovely, peaceful Cafe. Great light fare (the perfect dinner for jetlag!) Kind and attentive service and delicious, thoughtful menu.

Yelp
This was our favorite place to eat in Salzburg. It was not just because they had the freshest ingredients but also because they have a lovely atmosphere. The waiters are very friendly and are disciples of the Sri Chinmoy. We loved the egg and cheese omelette and fresh vegetables. Although I am not this seems like the ideal restaurant for a vegetarian.

Yelp
Excellent service and great food!! Staff were very polite and friendly and the food came quickly. Lovely ambiance

Yelp
Cute little cafe. Small menu but fresh delicious vegan and vegetarian food. Does not accept visa or Mastercard! Great for all meals. Would come again.

Yelp
A great vegan and vegetarian restaurant. The menu is fairly basic ( although delicious ) with items such as sandwiches, omelettes, falafel's, soups, Currys etc. Their desserts though are very unique- they are vegan and raw. Items such as most chocolate cake, raw vegan cheesecake and carrot cake. They also sell Croissant's, muffins and some small grocery items and supplements. We ordered the falafel, the lentil soup, a mixed fresh squeezed juice and the fair trade hot chocolate. Everything was delicious. The service was super friendly and theAtmosphere was peaceful and relaxed.

Yelp
This vegetarian cafe has a chill yen vibe. The food was delicious. So much do we ate here two days in a row for breakfast/brunch. The coffee, latte and tears were delightful. Many of them are for sale at the shop as well. The best dish imo is the hot portage with fresh fruits, and maple syrup. Yum! The cafe is filled with inspiring quotes and healthy teas, oils and products for sale in addition to delicious food. Great spot to relax, eat and recharge.

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant with so many delicious and healthy veg options. The hubs opted for the farmers market omelet with a wonderful roll which he really enjoyed. Said it was fluffy and light. I got a combo meal that included Holy Basil hot tea, carrot, apple & ginger juice and a bowl of porridge/oat meal topped with fruit, cinnamon and maple syrup. Great service and reasonable prices.

Yelp
The best! Food is great, service is awesome, what a breath of fresh air from all the bad service we been getting.

Yelp
Lovely little vegan and vegetarian cafe / restaurant tucked away in a side street off Rainerstraße. Great food, great service and really nice ambience. The staff are super friendly and the food is just amazing. The smells wafting from the kitchen are just so tantalising and its hard not to want to order everything off the menu! You'd never know the food is vegan and vegetarian, and trust me, you're not missing out! Highly recommended

Yelp
Located in the Franz Josef Straße among a number of other cafes, The Heart of Joy is a true gem - with their unique spiritual atmosphere (you'll understand what I am talking about when you read other reviews and go there), fast service and comfortable chairs you simply don't want to leave. It is important to note that they offer a variety of vegetarian/vegan dishes (but not only) and daily as well as weekly menus. I have tried their vegan cakes (I am not vegan!) and I loved them! They've got a free WIFI as well and since the cafe is very quiet it is the perfect place for studying/working. Keep in mind that they serve no alcohol!

Yelp
Great vegetarian/vegan cafe with both inside and outdoor eating areas. Ordered the vegan curry--delicious! Just the right amount of spice. Also had the Heart of Joy sandwich and lemonade. Sandwich was good, though was a little surprised by the spicy mustard. Lemonade was fresh with hints of ginger. Last we finished with the Choco muffin--the frosting was delicious and not over-sweet. Definitely recommend and would return. Friendly and helpful staff. Thankful menu was available in English.

Yelp
Very friendly service. My porch is overflowing with delicious fruits all very flavorful and fresh.

Yelp
The heart of joy cafe is delicious! I ate here twice while i was in Salzburg. The heart of joy salad with goat cheese is really well-balanced in terms of flavor and texture. I highly recommend this place. They make it easy for people who need to eat gluten-free foods as well; the menu states which items do not contain gluten.

Yelp
I ate here today while backpacking with my friend. I got the Heart of Joy breakfast which wasn't as much food as I was expecting. My friend got the Farmers Omelet which was really good and a good portion of food. The coffees had images in them which was very good. Good place if you're vegetarian, since that can be hard to find in Eastern Europe.

Yelp
Skip it. Worst breakfast I've had in Austria while traveling. That even counts all of the buffets I've had during my time here. Cute atmosphere and I am good with natural and veggie based menus, but was disappointed by the variety of breakfast. Every single item on the featured breakfast page was a porridge. I wasn't in the mood for porridge so I opted for an omelet. Big mistake, it was over-cooked and dry. At my disposal? Salt, pepper, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. So I drizzled olive oil on my omelet to help and sprinkled salt and pepper. A true first for me. It didn't help the browned portions, but helped with the dryness. I also ordered a chai latte, which was presented beautifully but it quickly turned into simply a chai with milk, and it was bland. Save your money, go elsewhere. This place does not belong in Lonely Planet as a recommendation. It was terrible.

Yelp
Great peaceful cafe with delicious food. Came here for breakfast and got the farmers market omelette and the fresh big 5 juice. The farmers market was delicious, it had a little less salt so you could definitely taste the fresh vegetables. The juice was amazing- it was freshly made and was perfect for breakfast.

Yelp
Great Hotwire recommendations!! Only had one day for sight seeing in Salzburg so arrived early morning. Needed a great breakfast to start off the day. Six in our family and two of the six must be dairy and gluten free. Four of us did the gourmet breakfast for two. You receive two Cappuccino's two small fresh squeezed orange juices, two soft boiled eggs and a large assortment of bread to go with their awesome butter and jelly. My younger son ordered the French toast meals and my other son ordered the porridge with fruit (it was Huge!!) Out of a 1-10 They received a 9.5!! Was so good went back for lunch!! Just have a jacket with you! We started lunch outside in the sun at 68 degrees And half way thru lunch dropped 15 degrees and windy. Lunch was also excellent!!! A must in Salzburg!

Yelp
Farmers omelette is the best choice to have breakfast in this restaurant it was so delicious and the prices are fair

Yelp
Amazing healthy food that tastes real yummy. We had soups / salad / apple cake and all were very good. The cake was sugar free and was actually delicious (could've ate 3 servings). WiFi as well so can easily go work for a bit. Tip: ask for salad dressing on the side.

Yelp
This place was awesome! My sister and I were traveling from the US and this place had some great healthy options. We ordered a delicious vegan breakfast. Although it was a little pricey, it was worth it...especially if you need a break from all the carbs and gelato you'll be eating while in Austria. Worth checking out. Staff is very friendly.

Yelp
Pure delight! Very yummy, clean, reasonably priced, kind atmosphere and VEGETARIAN!!! The rest of my family took a short tour while I explored on my own. Very comfy sitting at this cafe alone....others sitting outside reading, etc. lovely vibe!

Yelp
It was open 0800 on Sunday. We stopped and got a croissant, espresso and latte. The croissants were on par with what you would expect in Paris. Absolutely amazing. They were friendly and fast service. We got it for take away.

Yelp
Very tasty vegetarian food and super friendly staff. Definetely a detour worth. The do close early and todays menu is sold out fast. Next time i am around i Will test the breakfast.

Yelp
Contemporary cafe, was there for breakfast and it was great. Menu was a great selection of foods, nice to have somewhere to eat that wasn't heavy slow you down food.

Yelp
As someone who really appreciates being able to have options of more than just bread (I AM American) for breakfast, this place is FANTASTIC. There were so many different choices between vegan, vegetarian, or not. I felt like I wanted to try them all. The ambiance is welcoming and airy. I feel so loved here. I will definitely be returning here again, if not on this trip.

Sherry B.

Yelp
The service is horrible here. At least today. This cafe looked promising until we sat down and had to wait 20 minutes for our order to be taken. And that was only because my husband got up and asked the waitress if we could order. Everyone that walked in after us ordered and was served before we even placed our order. The food on the other hand was excellent! I got the French toast and fruit with fresh squeezed oj and my husband got a cheese and egg omelette with a fresh big 5 juice. We both really enjoyed our food. And....the hot chocolate was amazing!

Yelp
Loved this place....great find for those wishing for vegan, vegetarian, gluten free and organic. Food was tasty, prices were moderate, and service was exceptional.

Yelp
My husband and I went here and ordered the farmers omelet. It was really good! It was filled with vegetables and also came with really good toast. The service was friendly too. Would recommend!

Yelp
I found this place the minute I arrived in Salzburg and went back four times. That's how much I loved it. I had breakfast, two lunches and a dinner there.... and I took away another dinner. Such great food, so many options and such a lovely vibe. Their cakes were quite lovely too. Lots of gluten free options, lots of lactose free options including non dairy milk and lots of joy!

Connor F.

Yelp
Went here for breakfast. Not my normal kind of place as I like all the non vegan things, but there still plenty of options that sounded good. Got an omelet and it was plenty to fill me up. I only speak English however the menu had an English section and both waiters were able to talk in English making things very easy.

Yelp
The atmosphere and the staff were both welcoming. The food was delicious and had a lovely presentation. An excellent place in Salzburg for breakfast.

Pooja B.

Yelp
Just passed by for a coffee and cake, both of which were delicious! The atmosphere is so peacefully. I will go back the next time I am in Salzburg! This place is definitely worth a visit, the breakfast menus seems great too and the staff is very friendly!

Anna S.

Yelp
We had lunch and a dessert + coffee. There was nothing to complain about. The organic food was very tasty with a great choice of vegan and glutenfree meals, they do not charge you a lot for it.

Yelp
heart of joy is quite a lovely vegetarian/vegan cafe & restaurant. it's especially nice in summer (you can sit outside when the weather is nice) although it's also pretty "esoteric", so the people are hippie(ish) but also nice and interesting. everything is so healthy there - you should try the sugar free spelt apple pie! unfortunately they close at 7pm which i think is too early, and it's not very cheap but they do try to buy everything organic & the coffee is fair trade (as far as i know), so 4/5 stars :)

Yelp
My boyfriend and I was visiting Salzburg 2 years ago and came across this restaurant and we enjoyed the food sooo much that we didn't want to go to any other place and had ate at the place for 4 days straight. Everyone that worked there had such great energy and love. Toward the end of our trip we were sad to leave and will miss "heart of joy". Highly recommend this place!!

Keivan S.

Yelp
We found this place the second day we were in Salzburg and ate there twice. Both visits were for breakfast. The breads and quality of jams they served were exceptional. The "Enjoy Your Breakfast" selection was excellent. The Cappuccino and Chai Lattes were excellent. The staff were very friendly and service was prompt, but not at all rushed. The café is in a very nice location in Salzburg. My advice is to forget the overpriced breakfasts in the hotels and come to this place. You won't be disappointed. Heart of Joy is now on my go-to list when I go to Salzburg.

Hollee M.

Yelp
Had a light and healthy breakfast here our first morning in Salzburg. Great coffee and hot chocolate, though my son struggles with the extremely fresh (and pulpy) orange juice. My kids liked the French toast. My husband and I enjoyed our breakfasts, but to be honest I can't remember what we had, so it didn't stand out amongst the rest of the great food we had in Salzburg. Great service.

Tatil S.

Yelp
Healthy and tasty food. Friendly staff. Pretty good for breakfast. They even hold little concerts after business hours on some days.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious food, friendly staff and this place always seemed to be open when everywhere else was shut? Haha I think because we were in Salzburg over Labour day. Anyway, I thought the vegan options were abit limited for a vegetarian cafe, they certainly could have had more options, but nonetheless, the food I did eat was very good and homely. Also their cakes are excellent and majority vegan! We had chocolate cake, Apple pie, raw berry cake and a Raw chocolate nut cake. Very yummy food, would recommend lentil soup on a cold day :)

Michael A.

Yelp
We went for breakfast and it was great. I had a delicious omelette with bacon, etc., I highly recommend it, if you like omelettes; and their omelettes aren't soggy like we're used to in America. My wife had a croissant with almonds and almond paste inside, of which I stole a bite, and it was delicious also. They have a menu in English, and our waiter spoke great English also, which made things easy.
