So excited that The Heavy is finally open! To clear up any confusion, The Heavy is not a food hall, despite what some media outlets initially reported. It's also not an event venue. It's a retail space and floral bar that sells plants, flowers, furniture, ceramics and other home goods from Porch Therapy.
When you first enter the space, you'll see tons of gorgeous plants and thoughtfully curated home goods that fit the boho chic home aesthetic. On your left, there's a floral bar where you can order signature bouquets or create your own by the stem - I won't mention current pricing since it might change as they work things out in the early stages of its opening. They plan on having workshops where you can purchase a bucket of flowers and floral experts will teach you how to create your own arrangement - pretty cool since I don't believe this is being done anywhere in Orlando.
In the center, you'll find unique gifts, stationary, ceramics and other fun products, and on your right, there's furniture and more plants and unique home decor. If it's anything like the Porch Therapy at East End, expect the layout to be rearranged or refreshed on a regular basis so you can always have something to look forward to when you visit. They plan on having rotating vendors pop up in there space so make sure you follow them on social media to see what fun collaborations they'll have in-store. During their opening weekend, they had: Gypset, Blue Salvage Textiles, Downtown Credo, Secret Society Goods, Intrepid Hearts, Gezzelig Cookies, Orlan-dough and BOARDS by Bill and Sharon. Expect other local faves to pop up here in the near future.
If you're curious why it's called "The Heavy," check out this excerpt taken from a recently published article from the Bungalower - the owner of Porch Therapy (who leased the space from a third party) explains what inspired the name: "The building itself and what we're trying to accomplish is heavy. It's defined as something 'substantial' or 'of great weight.' That speaks very accurately to the impression we hope it will leave on the community."
Can't wait to see what happens with this business! Expect to see me here on the regular :)
