The Hendrick is on a par with other self check-in hotels. It's very clean and, while basic, it's fine for city stays. The staff were friendly and helpful and were right out front, unlike other budget hotels where you are actively encouraged not to deal directly with them.
I can't speak for all the rooms, but ours was very small, although clean and adequate. Most importantly, the bathroom was a good size and had plenty of fluffy towels. Clothes storage is in the form of a couple of hanging rails which are convenient and more than adequate, but they do make the room look untidy. One minor thing was that the only sockets in our room were on the opposite wall to the bed and there were no USB outlets, which is surprising in such a new building.
While the bathroom was fine with good pressure in the shower, it was a bit worn, with a broken hinge on the cupboard, a shower door that refused to stay on the tracks and a partially blocked washbasin. I don't know what it is, but I've stayed in 5 hotels in 5 weeks and 3 of them had blocked washbasins - room 106 in this case.
The beds were comfortable and we slept well, perhaps because the well-carpeted corridors were quiet. The artwork in the public areas is very good and seems to have been carefully chosen, which is much nicer than the bland generic copies you usually find in chain hotels. I've never previously wanted to check out the artwork in a hotel whose rates I could afford!
The lobby area had an excellent atmosphere when we were there with other guests playing guitar and there are USB charge points here. Breakfast is also served here, but while at €13 it's not expensive, it's pretty basic.
The location is very convenient, with an excellent selection of bars, reasonably-priced restaurants and a good cinema. It's only a 5-minute walk from the tram and another 15 minutes to the centre of town. However this part of town is only gradually being gentrified and, while I'm not generally a fan of gentrification, this area really needed it. This means that, while it's an interesting spot, tourists would be advised to keep their wits about them at night and keep to well-lighted areas.
