3 Best Day Trips From Edinburgh | Condé Nast Traveler

"At The Hermitage, mammoth Douglas firs huddle over pathways and flank the turbulent Black Linn Falls. More than 250 years ago, The Hermitage was designated as a pleasure ground for the Dukes of Atholl, and has since welcomed Queen Victoria and other notables." - Danielle Bernabe

Absolutely wonderful place. The waterfall is stunning and surrounding forest is gorgeous! Advisable to wear study and comfortable shoes as it can be very wet, muddy and slippery. There’s a public restroom and a small food truck/shop. Sufficient car park space. The observatory has a good view of the waterfall. Can spot lots of mushrooms :)

Beautiful forest walk with waterfalls and hidden spots. We hiked the circular Braan Trail on a sunny day—perfect weather for it. Took great photos at the Rumbling Bridge, Ossian’s Hall, and the cave. Peaceful picnic along the way. Last stretch of the trail had warning signs due to a recent landslide, but the path was still manageable. A magical mix of woods, river views, and historic follies. Paid parking in the parking lot, which also had a stand selling coffee and doughnuts.

If you live near here then I think your lucky to have such a tremendous place nearby. If you are passing by then you simply have to visit. This woodland walk is spectacular and there is a woodland walk which, according to the national trust, takes about 2.5 hours to complete. If you don't want such a big walk then you can take a 10 minute hike to Ossian's Hall. From here you can view the incredible waterfall that's behind it. Spectacular walk for the whole family, the kids will find fun everywhere while engaging their imagination.

Beautiful place. We drive up the track to a very small car park. It was a 10 min walk to Ossian’s Hall above Black Linn waterfall. Great walks through the forest.

The Hermitage. Situated across the A9 from Dunkeld. Plenty of parking. With a map and information board on site. What a lovely walk. Nothing too hard. Some mild inclines. We did the loop from the car park to the car park. A fabulous woodland walk. There are a few points of interest along the route. We even think we saw a sleeping giant. It's all worth seeing. A very nice morning was spent in the forest.

Beautiful, stunning nature around with a nice waterfall, I could have spent the whole day here. The walk is very relaxing, not particularly long but definitely worth the drive. Bring good shoes as some parts of the walk are uneven.

Great place for a peacfull walk, beautiful views of the Tay. There is a big waterfall with a viewing tower with a platform you can get some amazing pictures and views of the Tay. I have mobility issues and need a stick to walk, I found the path easy to navigate, the only thing to watch out for is large tree roots and stones coming out ground. There is an option to go for a longer walk past the viewing tower but it was a bit too far for me. Parking is £4 per car so not per hour but if your a National Trust Scotland member it's free. There will be various wildlife to see depending on the time of year visiting
