The rooms are clean and functional, not large and there is no chair, wardrobe or drawers to store clothing. The bathroom wet area has no shower base, so when showering the whole floor is flooded and it’s necessary to use a squeegee on the floor to dry it and make it safe from slipping. The bath mat was soaked on the first day and housekeeping removed the sodden mat but did not replace it for the remainder of our stay.
Also, housekeeping failed to replace the used toilet roll and I ran out of toilet paper; I was forced to use the toilets next to reception. Given three of our party were suffering from upset stomachs, the least a hotel can do is ensure there is sufficient toilet paper in each room. A big fail for the housekeeping team.
The food was plentiful and tasty, but all meals and drinks were very, very expensive, even by Icelandic standards.
Given there is virtually no alternative, either for accommodation or meals, Hrauneyjar is an acceptable 3 star hotel.
