The Highlander Public House

We found this place purely by chance off of a Google search for chicken fried steaks in my area. They were pretty busy but no line. We waited to be seated so that she could stagger the customers and not overwork the waitress. Totally fine with that! The atmosphere screamed Irish pub and it smelled amazing! We didn’t mind waiting. Good things come to those who wait. We got the Ruben egg rolls which I could have order two more of and just had those for dinner alone. 🤤 We had to get the pretzel with beer cheese sauce. Yum! 😋 The service was super friendly and the meals were made with love and pride. The owner/ chef brought all the orders out and served them. He interacted with all the people in the restaurant and made sure everyone was taken care of. Our waitress, Mandy, was the most beautiful soul. She was super friendly and personable. Always smiling and was able to stay on top of all the customers. Never had an empty drink. She made great suggestions and what to order. SO glad we stumbled in here tonight! We will definitely be back! (Don’t get me started on the cheesecake that is his grandmothers recipe!) ❤️❤️❤️

First time here. I ordered the patty melt with fries. Unfortunately, the melt came out barely warm and the flavor was just okay. In my opinion, the food was pretty average—on par with most places around here, nothing that really stood out. I did appreciate that the bartender knocked $2 off the bill when I mentioned the temperature issue. Overall, it wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t impressive either—just kind of meh.

Tired and sunburnt after a full weekend at the Shootout, we had an unexpectedly great time at Highlander Public House in Camdenton. It’s a lively Irish pub with tons of personality—Highland cows mixed with cheeky, whimsical Irish décor. The bar is a great size, and there’s even a modern jukebox set into a whiskey barrel end. Our waitress was absolutely adorable—I wanted to adopt her, lol. The whole staff seemed to genuinely enjoy being there. They were laughing, helping each other, and clearly having fun. That kind of energy makes a difference. Now, the food: amazing. (And we didn’t wait long, surprisingly!) We started with the fries topped with mushroom gravy and green onions—kind of like Irish poutine? So good. The crispy Brussels sprouts appetizer… just try it! The burgers are huge—a full half pound of locally sourced beef—and perfectly cooked. The bacon & bleu burger featured a finely chopped bacon and blue cheese blend, almost like a rustic, relish-like sauce. Not runny, not chunky—just a rich, flavorful spread that soaked into every bite. The mac & cheese burger was also exceptional. The HPH Burger did not disappoint. And the Highlander Pie? Mouthwatering, enormous, and served sizzling in a cast iron skillet. We’re so glad we gave it a try!

We came with a party of six which included four adults and two children. This was our first time at The Highlander. It was packed when we got there which is usually a good sign that they have good food and or drinks. There was a short wait but it was less than 10 minutes. We started with four appetizers including the fried pickles which were perfect for any pickle lover. The mozzarella logs were amazing! I could have probably ordered that just for a meal. There was a seasonal selection menu that included yellow fin tuna and avocado which was so delightful and plated perfectly. We also got a pound of peel and eat shrimp with their house made cocktail sauce. The sauce was light with plenty bite due to the grated horseradish. As for the entrees they too did not disappoint.. The chicken and waffles were a showstopper. You better bring a huge appetite if you plan to finish it. It has two full chicken breast perfectly seasoned and fried, sandwiched between 3 fluffy waffles that seemed to have a sweet crunch to them as well. It’s also had crispy/candied style bacon and a cup of bourbon, orange maple syrup that was delightful. It was the best chicken and waffles I have ever eaten, hands down! The chicken fried chicken was huge and juicy! It was paired with homemade red mashed potatoes, green beans and white gravy. I was told it was the best chicken fried chicken she’s ever had. My brother ordered the Philly and fries, he said it was probably in the top 3 phillys he’s ever had. My girlfriend got The Highlander pie. It was rich, cheesy and creamy topped with red mashed potatoes and cheese. It came in a piping hot cast iron skillet adding to the presentation. The youngest had a plain burger and fries. He ate all of it so it must have been good usually he wastes a bit. The cocktails were fairly priced and they had some unique options. Including a green tea mule which was delightful. We really enjoyed our experience! Amazing food with large portions and amazing service. If you are in the Ozarks this is a most stop restaurant!!

These folks took a boring old strip mall space and truly turned it into a pub space. It's awesome on the inside. Service was friendly, accurate, just great. The food was phenomenal. We had the Highlander pie aka Shepherd's pie. We had one of the seasonal specials the Rachel. Both were fabulous and really nice sized portions. You won't be disappointed. Also for any whiskey drinkers go on Wednesday they have flight specials.

Amazing service. Great atmosphere. Loud but not to the point you couldn't hear the rest of your table. Food was yummy. We spent $60 on two people. That was 2 meals, an appetizer and one dessert. Took a picture, sorry we already started eating before I took it.

When they say mozzarella log, they mean LOG. They are amazing though. The cheese is super gooey, the crust is super crunchy. It's everything you want in a cheese log. And you get 3! I had to try the fish and chips because it's one of my favorites. It was good. The fries are super delicious. Actually seasoned which I loved. The fish was good. Nothing special but good. The other half got the salisbury steak. O man was that good. All in all the food is very good. The waitress was super nice and on top of everything. Great place to eat.

We had a weekend getaway and stopped in for brunch. By far the best meal we had all weekend and the cheapest. Decorations are Irish pub with pictures of Highland cows. There were 11 of us 5 adults and 6 kids under 8 and all of our meals were hot and delicious. I don't remember what the menu name was but it consisted of a large biscuit with sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs all smothered with sausage gravy and a side of the best home fries. The kid meal came with a good sized waffles with 2 dipping sauces, chocolate and maple a helping if scrambled eggs a strip of bacon, home fries and a drink. We had eaten at several of the local restaurants in the area and this was the best meal we had. Restaurants in the area need to follow this example, I for one don't mind paying for good food but I won't go back to one where I've paid good money for poor quality food. This holds especially true for the kids meals, most restaurants don't try very hard because kids usually don't eat so they don't complain about the quality.

Incredible food. Start with a reimagined BLT and don't miss the fish and chips! They literally melt in your mouth like a pillow.

We came here intending to have a meal, but it was clear when we arrived that the noise level from the live music would make that unpleasant. Multiple folks around us were struggling to carry on a conversation - we were not in the minority. We had one round of drinks (which were great!) and left. A shame, we were looking forward to the meal!) Our perceptive server sorted out that we thought it was too loud and said she asked them to turn down the sound system a bit, but we perceived no difference. I'm a musician by trade, and have a high tolerance for noise, but this was well beyond my threshold of comfort. In a space this small, there is no need for amplification. Go acoustic, or put the band outside. I'd come back to try the food, but I'd make sure there wasn't live music.

This is our absolute favorite place when we're at the lake. They have such delicious food. Our favorites are the burgers, salisbury steak, and blackened shrimp pasta. Their Happy Hour is top notch, specials on appetizers and drinks. The staff is so friendly and the bartenders are talented, so fun to just watch them make cocktails. Always a fun time talking to all the patrons at the bar. Such a friendly place.

My grandma is a local here and loves this place for the cottage pie. Naturally when I came down I had to try it. My meal was great it normally comes with green beans and bacon but they let me sub another side for freeeee. Love that since I have dietary restrictions. Although the chicken was perfectly fried and served extremely hot. My favorite thing was the serving size of mashed potatoes! You probably can't tell by the photo but I promise each scoop was a solid handful! They are really heavy handed on the gravy and it's a bit bland but nothing some extra pepper can't fix. Waitress was super attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and deals. Apparently she's the same waitress who often serves my grandma. So I thought that was really sweet. They have nice happy hour deals on appetizers and drinks. What is really entertaining about this place is they serve flights of whiskey shots! I can only imagine the type of shenanigans going on here after dark. Also it's kinda funny there's a bbq place next door and it was absolutely DEAD on a Friday night. Really goes to show you should always eat where the local do!

The Giant fried Mushrooms are phenomenal. This place has unusual food that cannot be found anywhere in Camden County. Service is Outstanding.

Great place, lots of locals, good character. Lots of variety on the menu, huge portions, pretty good prices considering the portions and an attentive waitress. Everyone loved their food, especially the shrimp and fish. My buffalo wings were just ok, cooked great but the sauce was just ok. But everything else looked and tasted great. Highly recommend!

I had the shepherds pie that was sooooo full of potatoes. The little amount of meat was flavorful but the ratio of meat to potato was a 5 to one ratio. Wife had the chicken Rueben and it was delicious. Place was very busy. Staff was attentive. Family oriented and clean. Parking was tight but doable.

Food was very good. Fish and chips, Rueben sandwiches, and chicken fried chicken. Server was good. We all left full and happy. We really wanted to try the desert menu but didn't leave room.

We were a party of 8 coming in on a busy Friday night. We don't have to wait to be seated and our waitress was on the ball. We were only given one seasonal menu, that most of us didn't see until after we ordered. We thought we were let down because there were some delicious sounding items on that menu. In short, no one was let down. Everyone ooohed and ahhhed over their choices. The food was seriously picture perfect and full of flavor. We had the Highlander pie, the bacon avacado burger, Brussels, fries, shrimp pasta, tuna tostadas, a GIANT BLT, steak and mashed potatoes, the stew in the bread bowl, chicken fried bacon.... This would be my pic to go back to next year as well. They had live music going that was a nice touch. The restaurant itself isn't that large, but it works. I can't wait to go try more things off the menu.

Came in on Saturday, 8/30 about 1:30pm. The drinks were very good. Great mojito. Highlander pie and the Big Irish burger were very good. Didn't really care for the onion rings, overly battered. The problem was everything came out at the same time. Appetizer, salad, food. Even though we asked it to be spaced out. Comment was, I guess the kitchen was fast. It ruined the entire experience for us. They need to work a bit on service

Best fish n chips I've had in over 35 years! These were melt in your mouth delicious. We actually should have shared because I only ate one piece but now we have leftovers so that's a win. Service was excellent and ambiance was good. Loved the Irish decor and good music playing. We'll definitely be back.

Everything was absolutely amazing including our waiter, Owen. Food was perfectly cooked and the onion rings were HUGE! Definitely worth it! The live music was great, not so loud you couldn't hear over it and not so quiet it got lost. Will be back!!

I went to that place to have a quick brunch, not knowing that it would be a little expensive. It was a little too fancy for my taste with some of the sides and dishes. They gave the impression of being more than what was expected but still wasn't my style. There were three of us in the group, and we all had burgers with fries and shared onion rings. The food was presentable, but the taste was like that of a budget burger place we know, and the portions were a little small. However, this place is still beautiful. The ambiance was nice, and service was quick and courteous.

4.5 out of 5! Stopped here after a long day and before heading home. No wait to be seated, but they were somewhat busy. Our waitress was very helpful and made some recommendations. We tried the onion rings for an appetizer...WOW! They were huge...like the size of a palm and an inch tall! So facility and paired with a great dipping sauce. Not too greasy either. I had a patty melt and hubby had the buffalo chicken wrap. We both loved our food, but couldn't finish...thanks to the onion rings! Prices were affordable. Would definitely go back...I have a few other things I would like to try next time.

What a GREAT place at the lake! Food is AMAZING! I got the Highlander Pie and it tasted so good and the skillet was so big. It was super filling. Service was great, like I was down south in a small town. They take REALLY good care of you here. The place was packed on a Tuesday for lunch so you know that is a good sign. Lastly, they have a nice atmosphere and it feels really homey inside. There are a few TVs along with a full bar. Gotta go and try this gem!!

The service and food are positively fantastic. Everything I have ordered has been excellent and delivered quickly by a friendly staff.

Got the chicken n waffles again, this time with the syrup on the side. Very good! Bangers n Mash were also very good. Margaritas were 5 star amazing!

Tonight, as I lay down to sleep, I will be hoping to dream this food all over again. Atmosphere was awesome, Anthony our server was great, and the food was out of control delicious. This has to be the best restaurant in all of the Ozarks

This is an outstanding restaurant. The food is amazing with massive portions. Tiffany did an amazing job as our server!! The ambiance of the bar is Irish but very local friendly.

The Highlander Public House is the brunch you've been looking for The menu of cocktails to the brunch menu that's served 10am-2pm Saturdays & Sundays is just what you need! Plenty of seating inside, the vibe is a pub. Plenty of seating with a full bar. Great for a couple or large parties! Our Waitress was super nice & gave recommendations on her favorites! Make sure to check out this new joint in Camdenton!

BLT has maple flavored bacon. Good for breakfast but not for a BLT! I went to take a bite of my BLT and instantly grossed out by the sweet bacon.

Great place to eat and drink. Our bartender Joel was amazing! The owner is military vet. I was visiting friends at the Lake and they said it was the best local place. This place has great food, fun and drinks. We had roasted Brussels sprouts and wings as appetizers and they did not disappoint! My husband had bacon & avocado burger with fries. The burger was juicy & flavorful and the portion was great! The atmosphere is friendly, energetic and fun- filled. Highlander's is a gem in the community. I can't wait to fa back this summer!! If you are in Cadmenton not too far from Osage Beach be sure to stop at Highlander's Public House!!

Food is delicious, service was really good. Our waiter was all in even though they were packed. Whether dinner or drinks or both, this is set for a family environment with tbs everywhere for games. One our favs.

The restaurant was packed ! However, we were seated quickly and had prompt service. Wide range of drink choices and lots of unusual food options. The Highlander burger was delicious! Good service and reasonable prices.

Everything I have tried I have enjoyed. The Highlander burgers are my favorite. Sometimes the wait time is long. The facility is very comfortable feeling but seating is small for their popularity. Their onion rings are some of the best! The Ruben's are really good. Went in on a Sunday wanting a steak and only the brunch menu was available, little disappointed. The wait staff is always friendly and attentive.

I have eaten here several times and really enjoy the food. I would highly recommend the fish and chips.

Stopped in for a late lunch with a friend. I had heard mixed reviews which is not uncommon for a recently opened restaurants. Our food was really good. I chose the lunch portion of the Highlander pie (their version of a shepherd's pie). It was fantastic. My only small complaint is that the menu didn't indicate there were mushrooms included, so I spent a decent amount of time picking out the mushrooms. Other than that, it was FANTASTIC! My friend had the Buffalo chicken wrap; it was solid...a little too much lettuce and the sauce could have had a little more zing. The fries were very good! The service was friendly and prompt. The bar has a cute Scottish theme. I'd for sure go back.

Highlander public houses Ruben sandwich is out of this world. I added their candied bacon to it. It is by far the very best Ruben I have ever eaten.. I highly recommend this restaurant bar to everyone!

Never had a bad meal. Good food. Been here several times. Only missing Murphy's Irish Stout on tap. Otherwise great place to visit.

First Mikayla was awesome! We made several changes to the menu and she got everything right. The Salisbury Steak was incredible. My wife loved her salmon. For dessert, get the beignets over the creme brullee. It didn't have much flavor but it worked. The reason why they didn't get 5 stars is that they charges me to pay with a credit card. That's the price of doing business. Raise your prices another 50 cents per item to cover the 3% your processor is charging you. Otherwise, we loved everything but the ridiculous surcharge.

Every aspect of this place is great. Friendly staff, amazing food, great environment. Definitely a place to frequent often.

Got this as a recco and was think fried bar food. It is so much more and better than that. Really loved it and the crowd seemed to as well.

We stopped by after hiking. The food was AMAZING! I wasn't expecting much, but the food really impressed both me and my husband! I had the shrimp Alfredo with bell peppers and he had fish & chips. Both were phenomenal. It was a busy Saturday night, but our server was very attentive, timely, and sweet. The place seemed like everyone was having fun or just grabbing a Saturday dinner with friends and or family. Would definitely go back!

Food, service, and ambiance were all great!! BLT was overloaded with the best bacon, dinner salad was fresh and really good, French onion soup was delicious! We'll be back!

Found a little gem here! Had the Rachel sandwich and it was great. Service was friendly and fast. Nice atmosphere and very clean.

Highlander Public House was worth the drive! Everything we ordered was delicious! My husband said the Highlander Pie was the best shepherd's pie he's ever had! The burgers were large and delicious! There were many different options to choose from. The Goat's Gruff salad was also delicious! The service was friendly and kept drinks full!

An excellent place at the lake for a good meal with good people. If you order the chicken and waffles you won't be disappointed. Although you will likely walk out a bit wobbly from being full. Get a to go box and take half home for the morning. The Mac is great, as is the Shepherds (Highlander) Pie. Joel, Adrian, and Neil do a great job behind the bar.

This is a cool little spot. I did have high expectations going in but left pleased. Son said the burger was good. I had the Salmon which was amazing. The service made it even better. Highly recommend.

Fabulous! The food was great, the service was great, even the restrooms were clean!!! We enjoyed balsamic salmon and steak. Beignets could have used more powder sugar, but still enjoyable.

Here's a hidden gem in Camdenton. Amazing food, great drink selection, fair prices, great service, and even live entertainment on the Friday we were there. Our new favorite local restaurant.

We love going to HPH since it's local. The atmosphere is great! Plus, friendly servers. My only issue is that they no longer serve Kilt Lifter but that doesn't stop us from eating/drinking there. Try it!!

The food and service were ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!! First time here, since they opened. I'm so glad to have an Irish Pub/Restaurant back at Lake of the Ozarks. Plus, a BONUS is they've got GUINNESS on tap!!!

Our second visit- decided to try again thought the first experience was due to being so new. No they made exactly the same mistakes as a year ago! If you have dietary restrictions and ask for no mayo garlic sauce no pepper bacon no anything they don't get it right. In addition. All meals come out a different times at the table whether big or small table. Some cold some hot. We gave them a second chance won't ever return. Ever. Don't go here.

Fantastic! We've been looking for a place with good burgers at the lake near us in Camdenton. I had a delicious burger and my husband the fish n chips. The service was outstanding and they have a good pour on their wine and the house is only $5 a glass. We're looking forward to coming back to try other things.

These owners are the only ones I have seen ACTUALLY work. They are here everyday, running food, washing dishes, cooking, serving, etc. They truly care about making everyone feel welcome and leave satisfied. What great management & of course, food/bar scene.
