The Hill Garden and Pergola

The Hill Garden and Pergola is one of those places that quietly deepens my affection for London. Slightly removed from the busier paths of Hampstead Heath, it feels gentle and almost hidden. Walking along the pergola, with its weathered columns and climbing greenery, there is a sense of time slowing down — the city feels distant, yet unmistakably present in spirit. The space changes beautifully with the seasons and is rarely crowded, which makes it ideal for unhurried walks and quiet reflection. It does not demand attention; it rewards it. For me, Hill Garden and Pergola reflects what I love most about London — its ability to preserve calm, beauty and character in the most unexpected corners.

Just a beautiful place for picnics in summer. Excellent walking and hiking trails. A small acre with great food. Very dog friendly.

A beautiful Pergola garden with lush greenery, peaceful atmosphere, and the charming design makes you feel transported to the past. Perfect for relaxing walks, photos, and enjoying nature’s beauty away from the city noise. Definitely I will come back 😏

What can I say ? This place has my heart. Absolutely gorgeous transports you to another place in time with its Edwardian architecture and gorgeous rare trees, flowers and plants. It is quite a walk from the tube and its uphill, but worth it ! Get yourself some fruits and coffee or pastry and enjoy sitting in the garden .

Really nice garden with so many hidden gems. Beautiful for a walk, relax or lil adventure. And autumn colours are amazing right now.

Beautiful gardens and very photogenic. Saw many people posing and taking various pictures as the gardens are very picturesque. Nice to come on a sunny day and explore.

A hidden gem in London! Hill Garden and Pergola is one of the most peaceful and beautiful spots in the city. I visited in early summer, and the place was absolutely stunning. The combination of greenery, architecture, and quiet pathways makes it perfect for a relaxing walk or photography. Each season brings a different charm, so it’s worth visiting more than once. It feels like stepping into a secret garden—calm, scenic, and full of character. Great place to unwind, enjoy nature, or just escape the city for a while. Highly recommend checking it out—pictures don’t do justice to the real vibe!

This has to be one of North London's best kept secrets! I can't believe I had never heard of this garden (even my dad had not heard of it and he grew up near here.) I assume the lucky locals would like to keep this as a secret treasure, but it is too good not to share with yelpers!! The Pergola and Hill Gardens are hidden between Hampstead Heath and Golders Hill Park. The Pergola half of the garden is essentially a long raised walkway, under a long pergola made from wood and stone, covered in gorgeous smelling roses and other climbing plants. The other half of the garden has a large square pond full of lilies, sculptured hills and nice soft grass to sit on and have a picnic. I have a feeling it could be very busy on nice days...but when we visited it all seemed far quieter than Golders Hill Park - even though it is so, so much nicer. Practicalities: - If you don't want to walk, just take the 210 bus and get off at Inverforth House, you can see the signs to the garden. - It's free (!)

This place is beyond beautiful. I'm always surprised when I find places like this in London that is open for the general public with no fee. Tucked away on the smaller side of Hampstead Heath, in between Hampstead Heath and Golders Hill Park is this little Gem. Because it's hidden away it's less busy than both the known green spaces. The pergola goes on and on with hidden entrances to the gardens. The gardens all have walk ways for you to meander through them. I can imagine that this place will get used for many photoshoots. You have to be careful you're not walking into someone else's shot. None of the photos or reviews will EVER do this place justice. Trust me and go see for yourself.

I'm sure this should say Pagoda but I could be wrong. Garden Hill has amazing views across London and the grass is usually pretty long. There's always tone of people up here on a sunny day.
