The Historic Davenport is fabulous! We'd stopped into the Peacock Room for cocktails during our first visit to Spokane a few years back and swore we'd stay at this classic hotel next time we came to town ~ and we did just that earlier this month.
Splurged on the ~amazing~ Cutter Suite, and quite glad we did. It was very hot and extremely smoky during our visit, so we spent nearly all of our time hanging in our gorgeous corner room on the top (14th) floor. Very spacious and well appointed, with a comfortable king bed, sofa and two chairs, 2-sided gas fireplace, jetted tub and separate shower, and not one but two TVs (making for a very happy husband). There were also plush robes, a full sized closet complete with a safe and scrumptious smelling L'Occitane bath products.
Since our flight home wasn't until 3pm on the day we departed, I inquired at check-in if they could accommodate a late check-out. Unfortunately, they could not since they were expecting new guests to arrive that afternoon. Understandable. However, I was very pleasantly surprised when the gent at the front desk provided complimentary parking during our stay as a much appreciated consolation since they couldn't give us a late check-out. Sweet!
We headed down to the Peacock Room for some cocktails and tasty coconut shrimp for a little snack before dinner. Very nice service and the cocktails were expertly prepared.
I booked the "Stay for Breakfast" package when I made our reservations and was pleased to learn that we could choose anything from the breakfast menu at the Palm Court Grill. I opted for the tasty Dungeness Crab Benedict to go along with a delicious Bloody Mary and nice, strong coffee.
Just three things that could have improved our stay, and they were more of the annoyance variety, especially for a hotel of this caliber. First, our room did not have a wine opener. I inquired at the front desk and they had "given them all out for the day" and asked me to check in with the restaurant. Upon further inquiry, I was told I'd have to bring down my bottle of wine and they'd be happy to open it for me.
Another issue was that while there were plentiful (five) pillows on the bed, they were all limp little down-filled things that just were not comfortable. Seems there should have been at least a variety of pillow types provided from which guests can select their preferred pillow, especially since there were five.
Lastly, when we arrived to the Palm Court Grill for breakfast, there was a "Please Seat Yourself" sign at the hostess stand. As such, I selected a table in the amazing atrium, only to learn that they do not serve breakfast at those tables, only lunch and dinner. So we selected a high boy in the middle of the restaurant, but we're informed that we couldn't sit there, either. Honestly, put up signage that is clear, rope off areas where you don't want people to sit or just have someone actually serve as a hostess.
While the annoyances may have made me ding the Historic Davenport by a half star, I'll round up because all in all, it was a splendid and 5-star experience. We look forward to returning at some point!
