The Best Hotel or Resort in Every State

"Historic is an understatement. The inn, in the heart of Mason City, is the last remaining hotel in the world designed and built by Frank Lloyd Wright. The design is pure Prairie School-style—especially the dramatic lobby (reminiscent of the now-demolished Imperial Hotel in Tokyo which it preceded by fifteen years). Opened in 1910, the hotel was converted into office space and apartments, the building was shuttered in 1972, but after a full restoration certified by the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation in Scottsdale, Arizona, it reclaimed its rightful place once again as an iconic hotel in 2011. Stickley furniture in guest rooms adds to the authentic appeal of this priceless piece of history, which is listed in the National Registry of Historic Places." - CNT Editors

Understand that we stayed in the best room on the top floor and that I believe my review would be different if that wasn't the case. Having said that, my husband - who HATES hotels - has said he would live in this one if we could be in that room. If you're into Frank Lloyd Wright, this place is a must, but splurge on the suite. This is an old building and while it's been updated with very modern amenities (like quiet air conditioning, a wine fridge in the room, and heated tile floors in the bathroom), there's not much you can do about squeaky floors and strongly sprung doors (which slam easily). Read: a fair amount of guest noise. The suite in which we stayed was beautiful, with a 270° view thanks to Wright's design. The area was quiet throughout the day and overnight as well. It truly was a great experience. While I found the restaurant average and the desk and gift shop staff generally reserved, the food and beverage manager and the bartender were genuinely friendly and fun. (The bartender makes a good old-fashioned!)

Situated in history-preserving Mason City, Iowa, this delightful FLW hotel is a gem. Small, cozy and Mid-western friendly, my wife and I was continually surprised how at "home" the staff made us feel. The front office, the manager, the gift shop and others went out of their way to make sure our stay was a pleasant and comfortable one. The public rooms preserved Frank Lloyd Wright's original design and for architects, students or ordinary people like ourselves, this was like stepping back in time a 100 years and enjoying an experiencing what our grandfathers enjoyed. If you are looking for a quiet respite or just a relaxing stay somewhat off the beaten path, this is worth a visit. The restaurant is a fine place for dinner [see Lead light].||Mason City is also a terrific place to "slow down [you move too fast], you've got to make the morning last".

Such a fantastic property!! It’s Frank Lloyd Wright’s last remaining hotel. Magnificent! A must for fans of the GOAT. The hotel is lovely. Just perfect. We got a queen suite. At the time I booked there were no king beds available. It’s period appropriate, so maybe there aren’t any here. We had a nice suite. 2 rooms and a bathroom. Great shower. Lovely room. The common areas are incredible. Just oozing with charm and character. If you’re a FLW fan, this is Mecca. So much Prairie Style architecture in this town. So lovely. The staff is fantastic here. Kay in the Draftsman in the basement is so cool and fun. Carole at the front desk was incredible! Come to Mason City and do it right!!

Although a little spendy, you get the immense luxury of staying in the last operational Frank Lloyd Wright Hotel. The rooms are comfortable and nicely remodeled. They are largely not set up to the standards of 1910 but are instead very cozy with great beds, comfortable A/C and other amenities of the 21st century. The $20 million restoration was well spent as this is truly a destination for anyone who appreciates truly extraordinary architecture. I would highly recommend the Park Inn to anyone who is a fan of Wright, architecture or both. Mason City is a nice little place to stay with plenty of cute restaurants and shops.

How often do you get to stay in a work of architectural art? This is a beautifully renovated hotel that was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright as a precursor to his Imperial Hotel. Guests are encouraged to explore and look through all the different spaces and shared areas. Dinner at the hotel's upscale restaurant was very delicious. We also did the hour long tour and hit up the gift shop for very reasonably priced FLW merchandise. Highly recommend visiting if you live in the Midwest. We will be back!

Google
Quaint Frank Lloyd Wright building. Lots of sitting nooks places to sit and read. A great billiards area in the basement if you fancy a game of pool. Stained glass in the building, arts, and crafts style abound throughout. Rooms and fixtures arts and crafts style, Each room is a little different. Heated tile floors in the bathrooms, vintage floor with modern amenities. Quiet area. I would definitely stay here again when I come to Mason City.

Stayed one night while passing thru. Room was clean and the air conditioning worked very well. Very quiet and a nice change from the chain hotels. Ate in their bar - very good food and drinks. Hotel is better for adults than families.

Even though this hotel is historic, it has modern amenities and is nicely decorated. I loved staying here and would definitely stay again. There is off street parking available. A restaurant and bar onsite. We stayed on the top floor, so it was quiet. The windows and furnishings are lovely. The lounges and sitting areas are comfortable and cozy. The downtown location is convenient and walkable.

Yelp
We didn't stay here but we went on the tour of the hotel. We were tooling through town and knew there was a FLW house here but did not realize this gem of a hotel was in Mason City. We saw the sign outside for tours and were lucky enough to get on their 1pm Sunday tour - $15/ person. There were just four of us on the tour. Our tour guide, Curt, did an excellent job giving us the history of the building, the fantastic effort to save it and turn it into a hotel, and other details of this architectural masterpiece. Kudos to the dedicated folks in Mason City who saved this gem from the wrecking ball. A must see for FLW fans.

Yelp
Any Frank Lloyd Wright devotee must visit Mason City, Iowa and the Park Inn. It's FLW designed perfection on the outside and does not disappoint once you venture inside. Prairie School Architecture abounds around town and the sculpture walk certainly shows how Mason City and the Chamber of Commerce support the arts in town.

Yelp
I loved the idea of staying in an authentic Frank Lloyd Wright hotel. I felt this hotel was a bit long in the tooth. I noticed an immediate musky smell in the lobby. Both restaurants had poor reviews but we had drinks at one and dinner at the other. Neither experience was memorable. Our room needed a deep clean as it was extremely dusty. Three stars for being a FLW hotel.

Yelp
This was our first time experiencing the Historic Park Inn and it really turned out to be the best place we have stayed. The hotel in general was beautiful. The architecture throughout, the lighting and furniture design is beautifully done. Family and friends gathered in the parlor to play pool and chat. In the room, the bed was comfortable, bathroom was large and the shower was very nice. A Coffee maker with supplies available, along with a sm refrigerator was in the room. All the staff from front desk to housekeeping and concierge were accommodating and friendly making our stay that much more pleasant. We were unable to dine at the restaurant due to busy schedules but definitely plan on returning again to enjoy that as well. Thank you and we hope to see you soon

Yelp
My first time coming - was for my 61st birthday. My sister is from Charles City, and I live in Nevada, we made reservations a week ago. The host at the front desk - denied that there was a reservation made, but the ladies in the restaurant found the reservation. Disappointed that the first face that is seen seems to think that wearing a mask still is necessary. That is a huge turn off after 4 years of fear mongering for a flu!! We had to wait till the Leadlight opened at 5pm so an hour wait, was so worth it. However- the scene , the server (Grace) was Outstanding. She deserves kudos as this was her first time serving - we would have never guessed. We enjoyed the drinks, appetizers, and entrees exceeded our expectations! Thank for a wonderful 61st birthday celebration.

Yelp
Oh my gosh.. what a treasure!!! This is the last hotel designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright..it's right in the plaza, and the park in downtown Mason City... what a treat to stay here... there's a huge bunch of great eateries and shopping... we are here for a graduation and BandFest and feel privileged to be able to stay right in the middle of everything!!! The beds are comfortable, everything is spotless... great place to stay!!!

Yelp
My wife brought me here as a birthday surprise. I'm a big Frank Lloyd Wright fan so I was very excited when we arrived. It was a very cool experience. We stayed in a suite due to the fact my wife said the regular time looked a little small. But that is also to be expected as the layout of the rooms is historic. The room itself was very nice and we appreciated the heated floor in the bathroom. For dinner that night we ate in the hotel restaurant and it was quite good. The chef came out to speak to us to see how dinner was. It was fun soaking with him. Weed definitely stay again!

Yelp
Everywhere you look here, you are smacked with history! Beautifully restored, this is a gem in the hometown of Meredith Willson and I think Harold Hill just rolled in. I'm surrounded by equal parts luxury with equal parts history here. The building has had some rough times in it's past. Originally built for lawyers and a bank with a hotel added as an afterthought, it was a thing of beauty until the bank failed in the collapse of the grain markets after The Great War. A new owner thought it would be a good idea to convert Wright's high, vaulted ceilings in the bank to multiple floors and pretty much ruined the beauty of the structure. That blight has all been undone and the hotel has been lovingly been restored, although the banking space is now a ballroom. The lawyers moved out and most of their space was converted to guest rooms. The law library remains as it was, a stunning room of opulence that silently pays homage to the great designer. You'll find FLW touches everywhere, the Prairie School Design carries on throughout the building. My room was small compared to today's standards but comfortable and correct for the period. (Rooms shared bathrooms in those days, modern rooms have been enlarged and include a private bath to meet today's more demanding patrons!) Still, it was luxurious, a beautiful armoire masquerades a hanging closet and a small refrigerator. There is no freezer section so I must rely on the ice machine for my cooler tomorrow. Speaking of, there are no ice machines here! Bags of ice are kept in small freezers on each floor for you. No ice machines making weird noises in the middle of the night! There is a genuine Keurig machine with some K-cups (or bring your own) and speaking of cups, real ceramic coffee mugs are part of the kit. A small carafe is provided for loadibg water into the Keurig. (There are condiments but ir you're like me and prefer fresh cream, you supply your own. There's a nearby Kwik Star that provided that for me.) The bed was the nicest hotel bed I've slept in since the Chicago Hilton several years ago. Bath linens are luxurious, soft, and thick. By the way, take a tour of the hotel whether you're staying here or not. If you are a Frank Lloyd Wright buff, a tour of this hotel is mandatory. Plan on a couple of hours and watch for a certain Milwaukee connection that shares a link with Harold Hill. (Hint: Trouble with a capital T and that rhymes with P.) If you're in the area, you'll find the rates here to be moderate but competitive for the market. You'll be right downtown, across from the square and near the Music Man Square. If you're a fan of FLW and the Prairie School of Architecture, Mason City has an amazing collection of Prairie School homes - just check the National Register of Historic Places for a list, which happens to include this marvelous hotel!

Yelp
I made a reservation at the Historic Park Inn one month in advance of my stay as part of a block of rooms for a meeting I was attending. When I arrived at the hotel, I was told I did not have a reservation. I produced my confirmation email complete with a confirmation number and all of my contact information. The desk receptionist barely spoke to me, just repeatedly entered my information into a computer and mumbling that he can't find a reservation. He offered no suggestions, alternatives and no apology for my inconvenience. After an endless amount of time of watching him type and mumble he can't find it, I said I think I will just leave. He said "okay" and told me to call them if anything showed up on my credit card. I missed the second day of my two day meeting with never received so much as a mumbled "sorry". These reviews indicate a lovely décor, but if you are looking for customer service, I'd pass on this hotel.

Yelp
I have had fewer hotel visits that I have enjoyed more than our stay at Historic Park Inn. I'm a fan of Wright's work in general, but I can't help but relish in the thought of sleeping under the roof of one of his designs in the middle of Timbuktu Iowa (I mean this in a good way). Mason City is adorable and the hotel's location on the square couldn't be more fitting. We were enchanted by our experience from start to finish (including a tasty visit to the hotel restaurant, 1910 Grille). What to expect: -Super affordable rates - we stayed for $120 on a weekend night - take note, this place is like booking a room and museum experience all in one -the hotel was updated a few years ago keeping the Wright design integrity in mind from the lighting fixtures to the furniture and everywhere in between -very sleek and clean bathrooms (standing showers with subway tiles and great lighting) -rooms are divided in a manner that reminded me of cruise ship suites (mini office/entry room) with a tiny bedroom area (LOVED the coziness of the bed being tucked in) -comfortable beds - I didn't want to leave - seriously, I would drive to Mason City just to stay here again -very romantic - maybe it was the custom lighting with dimmer switches? In conclusion, book two nights not one. You'll never want to leave.

Yelp
Great hotel designed by FLW. Even better experience than we hoped for when making reservations. Staff exceptionally accommodating. Very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Provided excellent assistance with all our questions and accessibility needs. Would love to go back and stay longer. Mason City interesting and fun place

Yelp
What a national treasure! Can't believe we were able to stay at FLW's last remaining hotel. And in such comfort!

An impressive beautifully restored Frank Lloyd Wright timepiece. As well done inside as outside. A very comfortable stay!!

Yelp
Loved this place. Was put up here with my wife when flying up for a job interview. Interview, went well, loved the town... Hard to convince a winter-wary Canadian to move back to the snow from sunny California, but I digress. This place has this warm, romantic vibe with the low ceilings, beautiful geometry, surprising little nooks and secret-feeling rooms. The mattresses are comfortable, and the floor creaks just add to the overall feeling of being part of early 20th century architectural history. We also had a wonderful view of the nearby park and enjoyed walking through downtown on a cool snowy evening. The downstairs restaurant had warm friendly wait staff and comprehensive a la carte breakfast options. and the downstairs bar... if you've read the Great Gatsby or any other period pieces from that era, you will wax literary as you enjoy one of their great single malts, glasses of wine, or favorite local pint. After spending a couple nights here, I was ready to move my family to Mason City.

Yelp
I'd post more pictures, but they wouldn't do this place any justice. It is the only hotel built by frank Lloyd Wright still in use as a hotel. They put quite a lot of money into renovating the hotel. The rooms are very nice; my favorite is the queen room with the adjoining bathroom. Pictured here is the king suite park view. You must check out the bar downstairs. If you squint your eyes, you can see the rat pack smoking cigars in the corner as you play pool. If you are into architecture, or just finding unique places off the beaten path, check out The Historic Park Inn. (We also ate at the restaurant. 4/5 on the food.)

Yelp
Consider me a rather large fan (how large? About 200lbs) of this hotel. Besides the obvious-the magnificent architecture and historic significance, the first rate furnishings including genuine Wright designed furniture, as well as Stickley pieces and Teco and Van Briggle Art Pottery, the beautiful park view from my room, and the very comfortable, if a little cozy room, there is also the superb food served at the attached 1910 Lounge. I had a splendid omelette and several very good cups of the locally roasted Cabin Coffee. The hotel staff is super nice and they're not ashamed to boast about everything the hotel has to offer. I spent 20 minutes with Jim learning about the history of the hotel and some of the remaining, original fixtures. And although the fitness room is located in a rather remote location, it is nicely equipped. The only negative to staying here is the parking-park early and don't leave or you'll find yourself without a spot. The parking capacity doesn't mesh with guest capacity. I'll stay here again whenever I have business within a 100 mile radius of Mason City!

Yelp
This is a must-stop if you are within 100 miles of Mason City, Iowa and have an interest in history, architecture or good design. This 101 year old Frank Lloyd Wright hotel is the only one in existence in the heart of downtown Mason City. It reopened in September of 2011 after an extensive and very expensive renovation. This is a building filled with wonderment. It's located on the town square of the town that inspired the "Music Man." I haven't had an experience in a hotel like this since I was at the Hotel Del Coranado as an adolescent. The interesting nooks and crannies unfold continuously. Passageways, libraries and desks all placed with amazing detail in design. The lamps, the woodworking, the vases. The joy here is in the small refinements and details in every room, hall way and gathering areas. The historicity and design here is un-ratable. Off the charts in delight. It's a work of art you can sleep in. As a man standing 6'1 I felt like a giant in a doll house as I wandered the building. I kept thinking about how the space requirements that defined comfortable accommodations have changed so dramatically over the past century. The comfort level takes some additional consideration, and is the only drawback from a stellar review. The rooms are very small, along with the beds. Our suite contained a short full size bed. The walls are not insulated very well, and we could hear the man in the neighboring room snoring very loudly. Couple the small rooms, furnishings and guests who don't adhere to the belief in "hotel manners" and you may not be in for the most restful night of sleep. The Park Inn's raison d'etre is the cultural value. The employees whether at the front desk or serving drinks were a total delight, and I felt like they went th extra mile for our satisfaction at every opportunity. The Park Inn is a unique and fascinating place to lay your head for a weekend and is a marquee attraction in north Iowa.

Yelp
I've stayed at several hotels and this is one of the best and most randomly located that I've ever been to. In Mason City which is a decent enough place you wouldn't expect to find a gem like this. From what I understand, this hotel was designed by a famous architect and upon entering you can tell it's not the normal hotel stay. Every crafted detail of this place is a work of beauty. This is one unique place and love what they have to offer. The rooms have heated bathroom floors, modern automated lights, nice TV, beautiful home like design, and much more. You feel like you are at home here and is very cozy. If your staying around these pets then this should be your first choice. If this hotel was in a bigger city it would be a few hundred a night. This is a special place in the most random of places.

Yelp
So....I'm just gonna go ahead and make a case for why you should make a trip to Mason City, IA and stay at the HPI... 1. The hotel is really a slice of Americana (not to mention the whole "I feel so American being in the middle-ish of America). Well appointed with great attention to detail, it's really lovely to first read about the hotel restoration then walk around and check out the place. That FLW really was quite a visionary. 2. The beds are comfortable, the rooms are clean and the bathroom floors are heated. After a cold and windy day out exploring the local area, nothing says takes the chill off like stepping out of a shower and maintaining toasty warmness from head to toe - especially if you manage to secure a glass of wine to help ward off that chill. 3. The staff are quite helpful and friendly. Admittedly, our stay was a result of a wedding taking place at the hotel that weekend, but I super appreciated how helpful folks were with my requests (and PS - it wasn't my wedding). 4. It's about a block away from the Mason City Brewery. So even in the cold, stumbling...I mean walking was do-able without the need to call Uber service (do they even have Uber service?!). 5. The lounge downstairs is pretty fab, even if they don't open until 5 p.m. Please refer to #3 comment about fulfilling my "request" and my #2 comment about a glass of wine. 6. The town of Clear Lake, IA is just a short drive away so you could do some outdoor lake related activities and end your evening quite posh with a nice dinner at the 1910 Grille or the Quarry Restaurant around just behind the hotel. The only pseudo-negative is that the hotel is small and the walls aren't sound-proof, so you can hear the faint murmurs of your neighbors in the next room. I had such a nice experience that I've recommended this hotel as a weekend getaway for friends and colleagues.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this while driving west after visiting Taliesin. Very successfully renovated, resulting in a comfortable lodging experience in a hotel designed by the man himself. Better quality than your typical freeway exit hotel for the same price. When we arrived, it became obvious Jim, the guy at the desk, knew a lot and was willing to share it. I spent almost 45 minutes with him, talking about FLWright and peeking into all the corners of the hotel. A most rewarding experience, in and of itself! As for the hotel, typical Wright design, floors a little creaky but the renovation work completed 5-6 years ago definitely first class! I love the heated bathroom floor!

Yelp
Quiet, even though it was right downtown. Convenient walk to restaurants. Helpful staff.

Yelp
I was taken to this restaurant for my birthday and I was unsure because it seemed like a pretty small location. I LOVED EVERYTHING!!!! The food and service was so good! This will be my new favorite restaurant in Mason City going forward.

Yelp
Exceeded my expectations!!! Absolutely stunning! Only downside is restaurant and lounge closed.

Yelp
This hotel is simply gorgeous. If you're a Frank Lloyd Wright fan or just a casual admirer, this place is still a must go on your list. Just a two hour drive from the Twin Cities means I'll be telling everyone to go for a night. First, the hotel itself. It's obvious the restorers spared no expense or time to renovate this building. Wright was a master of detail and so were the people who restored this hotel. Nothing looks out of place or 'wrong'. It really feels like you're genuinely in the hotel as it must have looked like shortly after it's initial opening many years ago. Mason City should be proud to have such a beautiful jewel in its downtown. The staff was very accommodating and simply a pleasure to interact with. We were lost several times and the woman working the front desk easily guided us. The room was gorgeous and had lots of modern amenities that took nothing away from the great architecture. It was as if we could have our cake and eat it too. There were only two relatively minor things: First, it's in Mason City...not to knock on the town too much, but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot to do in the area. I'm open to being wrong, but from my short stay, that was my impression. It's not really the hotel's fault, so it's hard to dock them points for that. Second, a suggestion for the hotel would be to revamp the breakfast. The selection of foods is not that great and the bagels/muffins/bread just seem blah and stale. Some fresher foods would be wonderful. Still, those are very minor things and are easily overlooked with how well the rest of the hotel is/has been executed. We'll definitely be back.

Yelp
this was such a fun hotel to stay in! the rooms are one the smaller side but the cuteness is unparalleled. right away, the girl who checked us in answered our questions on the history of the hotel and gave us brochures for the rest of our questions. a lot of the furniture both in the rooms and in common areas were designed by flw, including light fixtures and chairs. the rooms had keurig coffeemakers (which i guess are just mostly aesthetically cool) and were just comfortable and cozy. the hotel also had a nice bar with a cool bartender and a diverse crowd. best of all, the prices was incredibly reasonable. we paid only thirty dollars more than we did the night before for a best western in terrible shape. if you're in the area, this is definitely the place to stay!

Yelp
Great bar area downstairs. A true gem in Mason City. If you like unique places to stay you cant miss this one. Now there are some great restaurants close by including in the hotel. The brew pub down the street is a great stop also.

Yelp
This is a gem of a hotel with significant historical significants. The attention to detail and respect for the historical integrity of the building is absolutely amazing. Staff was great including the bar. Looking forward to the restaurant. One of the alterations was going from an original 40 room hotel to a more modern sized room of 27. A comment was made stating things were small, but I thought they were perfect size. We tend to have too great of expectations when it comes to size when mostly all we do is sleep there. I think there is a downtown revitalization going on in Mason City. My perception of the town has changed significantly. I love the story of these types of hotels. Nothing can beat it. Ralphs Cafe and the Quarry match the quality of the hotel.

Yelp
If you are a Frank Lloyd Wright fan you may travel around the US to see his classic architectural commercial and residential designs. And if you're going to be in the Mason City, Iowa area, you might check to see if you can get a room reservation at the Historic Park Inn, which is a quaint boutique hotel designed by Frank Lloyd Wright himself! If you are going to see the Clear Lake, Iowa area to visit the Surf Ballroom, this might be a great option for an overnight stay. The building used to be a law office, a bank and a hotel. I believe that the space which was formerly the bank is now the banquet room. And the law offices have been turned into the hotel rooms in addition to the former hotel rooms. It's smaller than high rise hotels you would find in a major metropolitan center, but that isn't the reason to come to Mason City or to stay in this hotel. It's done in the classic FLW prairie style. The exterior appears to be fully intact from its original design. But in recent years, the interior was redone to make for a totally modern hotel experience. The rooms are fully appointed and in the room I stayed in on the second floor there was a queen size bed, two night stands, desk, chair, and long bench. The tiled bathroom had a rain style shower head and modern bathroom fixtures. The furniture, accessories, and decor all have that FLW feel to them and feel totally right for the style of the original design. The room had wi-fi, a flat screen television, a hair dryer, lovely toiletries, and parking that was included. There is a common area balcony on the second floor to view the park town square area. The law library is intact and there are display cases with period items. The hotel has a lovely lobby with dark interior and a lounge on the lower level with a pool table. The 1910 Grille serves dinner in a lovely atmosphere. The price in September was approximately $120, including taxes for a one night weekday stay, which was completely commensurate with other chain hotels and yet you can stay in a building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright himself. The room is completely comfortable. The one thing that I read over and over yelp hotel reviews in general is how thin the walls are and hearing your neighbor's conversations. That generally doesn't bother me and it certainly doesn't deter me from a hotel stay because they all have them!!!! However, with that said, I really could hear the neighbors in the next room. And in the bathroom you can hear everything on the shower wall with perfect clarity. But this is an old building. So, you have to decide where to stay. This is a cool place to stay if you are a FLW fan and want to experience a night in one of the buildings he designed. I turned on my delta wave music from YT and fell right asleep. This hotel has charm and should be enjoyed by anyone travelling in the Mason City area.

Yelp
This hotel is a destination as much as a comfortable place to stay! The modern conveniences combined with the 1910 structure and architecture is very unique. The staff seem to enjoy and appreciate working in such a historical place and do all they can to make your stay comfortable. The towels are lush and the coffee and refrigerator in the room are nice. I bought hand towels, coasters and a coffee cup to remember my stay!

Yelp
The only Frank Lloyd Wright designed hotel in the USA. Elegant and restful. Excellent service and Mason City is very welcoming.

Yelp
Eye candy everywhere for Frank Lloyd Wright fans. Happenstance brought us here and luckily we snatched the one and only room available for the night. The desk clerk couldn't have been nicer and went out of his way to accommodate us as if we were regular guests with a standing reservation. A true gem, a must see, an experience!!!

Yelp
We had a wonderful experience staying here! Our kids enjoyed learning about the history. Clean, comfortable, and accommodating. The restaurant was great. Everyone who worked there was kind and professional. Highly recommend!!!

Yelp
I stay here every six weeks for work and I look forward to it every time. The restorers really left no stone unturned in their efforts to bring this magnificent structure back to life and I find it remarkable that they were able to add modern conveniences without sacrificing the historical significance of a genuine Frank Lloyd Wright property. Mason City and the region should be proud of it.

Yelp
Stayed here during the slow season of January 2015 and the price was great. I have paid much more for much less. This hotel has more charm and character than Wilford Brimley. I would stay here any chance I could. The lounge in the lower level is top notch and Judge Smails would definitely approve. Jess and Kaitlynn at the front desk were awesome and very helpful. Bring a camera as Mason City has outstanding architecture throughout the town.

Yelp
This place is a gem in Mason City, and the Mid-West in general. No detail was overlooked during the remodel, the place looks amazing. It has many of the great amenities you would expect at any hotel, WiFi, flat screens, bar and restaurant etc. But if you're looking for all the bells and whistles of a major chain this may not be the place for you. No pool, the gym only has a few treadmills and elliptical, small hallways. There are patios overlooking the city square to sit on during the summer months. If you like boutique hotels with character, this is the place.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed one night here at the end of Feb 2015. This hotel is awesome. We got a decent price and booked directly with the hotel. I was impressed with the service at the hotel. A few days before our stay we got an email saying they were excited to have us, and after our stay we got an email thanking us, and asking us to take a survey. Every single staff member at this hotel treated us with kindness and happiness, and they all seemed genuinely happy. We were able to check in early which was surprising, and wonderful. We got a queen room on the 2nd floor. It was a bit odd shaped, but it was very clean, upgraded and nice. For a historic hotel, it had some great modern features (heated bathroom floor, upgraded light settings, huge shower head, smart TV) My husband and I know nothing much of architecture but even we could appreciate this neat place. We walked around the different stairs and areas, it was a maze and it was really neat. I will point out that many of e ceilings are fairly low. My husband at 6 foot, just fit under some of the ceilings. Many of the doorways were fairly skinny as well. It was a great adventure, and almost felt like we were walking in secret passageways. The bed was comfy and super clean. Also free wifi that worked great. I would definitely return.

Yelp
The reservations were mixed up, the credit card authorization I pre sent was not used for my cousin at check in, one of the rooms was facing the HVAC system and was very loud-- it should have insulated windows, it was hot and smelly because the windows were screwed shut, the phone receiver was broken. A perfume machine pumps perfume into the lobby. This was one of the worst problems. Some people are allergic to synthetic fragrance, including myself, and it was impossible for me to be in the lobby for more than a minute. Also, the effect runs counter to what I suspect is the intention --I assume the intent is to "make it fancy" but in reality is cheapens the experience, makes it tacky. There is nothing historic about synthetic perfume being pumped into a lobby, nor would a high quality hotel do such a thing. It comes off as amateur.

Yelp
I have been visiting this hotel for more than a decade, first as a shambles (not me, the hotel) and then as a hardhat worksite and now as a magnificent marriage of great gumption and great architecture. Brava! to leader Ann McGregor and all of Mason City for giving us back Frank Lloyd Wright's only hotel left on earth. Other Yelp reviewers have chronicled well many wonders of this place. I'll add just one. The restorers of this block-long beauty found no wool weavers in the U.S. who could produce the great lengths of period-design hall carpets they wanted. So they turned to Egypt and then sweated as their rugs set sail just days before Arab Spring tied up the country. Earlier this summer, my wife and I stayed two nights, and now we're planning three. Also there is this. We've all seen those places where that one exceptional spot is just that, the exception. No so in Mason City. Historic Park Inn certainly now stars, but there's Its Wright house, its municipal art collection, its enclave of Prairie Style homes, its music touchstones from Buddy Holly to Meredith Willson, and even more to make this a Midwestern destination not to be skipped.

Yelp
My wife and I stayed here one night when we were getting an RV in Forest City. This was a great place to stay. The building is awesome, and the park across the street is very nice too. The breakfast was fantastic in the morning. Very good.

Yelp
This was a very cool hotel. Love the history but also love the modern comfort. The linens are top notch, mattress was very comfortable and the room was really nice. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone traveling in this area.

Yelp
We stayed here over Easter weekend, April 6-8, 2012. The renovation/rehab is fantastic. Kudos to those in Mason City with the vision to pull this off. It was an enormous undertaking. If you enjoy Wright's designs and architecture, you'll love staying here. If you are over 6 feet tall, be careful. low doors. The billiards room/ bar in the basement is a great place for a drink before you head out for dinner. Nice large TV in the billiards room. Our room was on the small side, but we expected this with the age of the building (1910). The continental breakfast was adequate. We just loved all of the period furniture and trappings. helpful, friendly staff. While in Mason City, get to the MacNider Museum and take the tour of Wright-inspired homes (exterior tour only) and get to the Architecture Interpretation center. The Wright designed Stockman House does have tours, tickets at the center next door. All walking distance to the HPI. We didn't make it to Music Man Square.

Yelp
What a treasure! Kudos to all who worked so hard to make it happen. From the bar to the banquet room, whatever type of gathering can be managed here.

Yelp
We made our reservation at least one month in advance. We arrived to learn that there was a wedding just below our room with a 20-piece jazz band that was going to play until midnight! The hotel was full, so there was no other room. When either we or the wedding booked and the conflict occurred, why were we not informed and given the chance to arrange for another room? All we were offered was an invitation to the festivities. Not too attractive when you've been driving for 12 hours and you don't know a soul at the party.
