This hotel was the perfect place to stay while we were in town for a wedding. The reception was hosted right there at the hotel and it was perfect. The food was excellent. The space was just enough. The rooms were cozy. Definitely gave off haunted vibes but I love that. This place gets all the stars from me.

Very friendly staff. The two people who checked us in were excellent and very welcoming. The rooms were clean though the bathroom needed a little updating. As others have said, trains do pass close by sounding their horns throughout the night. Though we weren't really bothered by this it may be an issue for some. The lady who put together the cocktail menu at the hotel bar was very enthusiastic and we enjoyed trying her creations. Overall we were very happy with our stay and would visit again if in the area.

I had a great experience at the Holland Hotel in Alpine, Texas. Miguel Carnero with guest services was amazing. He’s very attentive and knowledgeable in places to visit in Alpine. He took care of all our needs in regards to our hotel stay. The hotel itself is very beautiful with lots of history. I recommend a stay if you’re in the area.

If I could only leave a one word review it would be this: overpriced. However, I can use more words, so allow me to elaborate. We decided to stay here to enjoy a historic hotel in Alpine, and to support a small business. While I have no regrets there, the room we were given was very small. We had one queen size bed and there was very little room to maneuver. In addition to the small size, the bathroom sink was in the bedroom. I don't know if all the rooms are this way, or we just drew the short straw. The room and overall hotel were not the cleanest either (although I've had worse). Our bed had a hair in it, and it was not ours. I have no problems with any of these issues if the hotel is priced accordingly, but our room was about double what a room at the Hampton Inn or Holiday Express would have been. Next time I'm in Alpine I'll just go with the chain hotel that provides a room that is probably cleaner and definitely larger.

Google
Nice place, beds are not that comfy. The fire alarm went off for no reason at 6:28 am . That really wasn't fun. We couldn't go back to sleep. That ruined our morning.

Google
Great hotel for when you want to hike big bend but can't get a campsite. The room we stayed in had a separate bedroom and was spacious and decorated beautifully. There is a train line passing through, bring your earplugs. Unfortunately, there is no restaurant or bar as they are renovating.

Google
Excellent experience, especially for the price!! We enjoy staying in historic hotels and this was by far one of the best we’ve ever visited. The ambiance was wonderful, especially the lobby and courtyard which were exactly like the pics you’ll find on the website. Yes, there is an old smell, but it isn’t overly strong…it’s just what you will always have in a historic building. It seems to validate the age of the building and adds to the charm. Room was great with soft linens and an oversized comfy leather sofa. Mattress could have been softer, but it wasn’t too hard and We slept pretty well. Our fave thing was the courtyard and we enjoyed that space so much in the evening that we had our coffee there the next morning. It not only has a large working fountain, but it also has two large trees growing up from the foundation and lots of well-cared for plants and flowering shrubs. And being open-air, it also had lots of birds making it a perfect place to enjoy nature. I don’t recall his name, but the young man who checked us in was also wonderful with his friendliness and the amount of time he took with us. We will definitely stay here again if ever in the area and might even make a special trip (7 hours from home) just to stay here again.

Google
The Holland is in a great location and the staff is friendly, but not on the premises after 7pm. Check in was at 3, but our room wasn’t ready until 5. Our room was less than desirable. The carpet was dirty, the faucets were water stained, and the baseboards and furniture were dusty. The heat/air did not function properly and squealed non-stop. The electric outlets were few and so worn that chargers barely stayed in. There was no blow dryer in the room. The elevator makes a disturbing noise. There seems to be a lack of care. No, we won’t stay there again.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here previously back in 2016, and we decided to stay here again during the last leg off our vacation. we wanted to drive up to the observatory for a star party. The hotel was clean, and tidy. Very visually pleasing in the common areas. I can't speak to the bar/restaurant It is currently being renovated. Personally, I do not think that the train is that loud. It's an Amtrak train so it doesn't stay very long and it passes rather quickly. I am a relatively light sleeper and I sleep with earplugs and I have no problem with the train they do provide earplugs for your stay if you have a problem. I definitely would stay again.

Yelp
First of all, I would like to say that I can respect the history behind this hotel and the beauty of it in that regard. However, I would NEVER and I mean NEVER stay here again. To begin, while checking in, the staff was very kind but, we were told as we were handed our keys that our rooms (we had 2) were cleaned and ready for use (they even used their cell phone to call to confirm). The check in time was 3pm mind you, and we got there around almost 4. Once at our room, upon entry, there was a backpack that was left literally on the floor right as you walk in, someone's night bag, a computer monitor and a t-shirt on the floor in the adjourning room. There was also trash in the trash cans from the previous person. This immediately told us that whoever was supposed to be cleaning in this room did not do their job. We called the front staff, and they were very kind about the issues and quickly tried to resolve the problem. The cleaning lady did give us sheets for the pull out couch since we asked, thankfully. I also understand that this is a small town and that this hotel is very old, but all of the carpets in both rooms were stained, we had no towels in the bathroom and the one we did have had a very large brown stain on it. There were 2 chairs in the room as well and as soon as someone sat in it, it broke. The last point I would like to make is that this hotel is right by the train tracks, so every time a train goes by YOU WILL HEAR IT! I think we probably heard the most loud and repetitive train horns through ALL hours of the night (at least 5 or 6 trains blowing their horns). I know it's not the hotels fault for the train, I just wanted anyone who might want to enjoy their sleep to be aware. I'm sad that this was such an unpleasant experience, as I am a fan of historical hotels and other places, but I will not be returning here.

Debra C H.

Yelp
Needs serious clean and paint and and the bathroom is a nightmare--not coming back here as there is quite a shabby feeling in the room and carpet seems dirty too so I am not taking my shoes off.

Yelp
What a find! If you want great food, wonderful service and a unique setting, this is the place. Two of us had beer battered fish and chips. The servings were large and the fish moist, tender with a crunchy crust. My husband had Pork Osso Buco. It's a sure bet if you like pork. Lastly there was Blackened Red Fish which was over the top good. All the meals were delicious and presented beautifully. I cannot say enough about out delightful waitress. She was fun, polite and just attentive enough to supply perfect service. We were there for my birthday on June 1, and The Holland made it a memorable evening.

Alisha W.

Yelp
he walls are THIN. So thin that they leave ear plugs on the bedside tables. They also leave the tvs on in empty rooms, so I'm stuck listening to Irish folk music blasting from the room next door. They front desk closes at 7 pm, and we were a late check in, so there is no one here to turn it off. I tried to call the number but they don't even have someone on call. There's also a lot of noise from the road and sidewalk. I can't use ear plugs. If you know your walls are thin, don't leave the tv blaring all night. It's an old hotel and they haven't done much to upgrade it. It's not worth the $150 a night.

Yelp
I was very close to staying at the historic Holland hotel during a trip to West Texas. Located in Alpine, the hotel has a lot of old school charm to it and was built by a well known architect. What ultimately kept me away was that a train passes through close to the hotel which can make it noisy at night. I'm a light sleeper so that was a no-go for me. Instead, I ended up visiting during the day to see what the hotel is all about. It is a nice hotel and I spent some time walking around the lobby. A kid's birthday party was taking place on the outside patio. While I can't comment on the rooms, if you're a heavy sleeper, it's definitely worth a stay.

Yelp
Enjoyed my single night stay there before the half marathon in Marathon the following morning. Room #202 had an extra living room and 2 full baths which worked out great for me and my best friend. Refrigerator too. Our room was clean and easy to control temp wise. Nice ranch style themed lobby, and decent live C&W music was playing most of the night on the patio/courtyard (older xrows). The full service/menu bar inside was where the hipster crowd hung out). The restaurant, Century Bar and Grill served some great looking food, so i'll try them next year, Friendly sraff, and train wasn't that loud...

Yelp
My stay at the Holland was by far one of the best hotel experiences I have ever had! We were road tripping through Alpine and decided to stay one night so that we could rest and refresh ourselves after several nights of tent camping, so needless to say I was already more excited than ever to simply sleep in a comfortable bed. When we arrived we were met with a beautifully decorated lobby with a nice fireplace, a pool table, and plenty of space for lounging around. The gentleman at the front desk was friendly and checked us in quickly and we settled into our room, Nina's Room. It was the smallest and the only original room in the hotel. I picked it simply because it was the most cost efficient for two travelers just spending a very quick night, but we got a wonderful experience out of it and the room had more than everything we could have asked for! I could honestly give five stars alone just for the rainfall shower head in the bathroom which felt amazing and made for the best shower ever. The rest of our room and the hotel was beautiful, clean, and cozy that I found myself wishing I was staying an extra night! I love the history behind the Holland and the uniqueness of the whole place. If I'm ever traveling through Alpine again I will definitely be staying here once again!

Yelp
This was our first visit to Alpine and it did not disappoint. The Holland is charming and definitely what I would expect during our stay. The rooms were nice and clean. The beds, however, were less than desirable. If we return I will look into other locations just because of the beds. The tub in our bathroom drained VERY slowly and by the time your shower was finished the water would be above our ankles. This creates a safety hazard when standing in a cast iron soapy tub. We didn't get a chance to eat in the restaurant but did visit the bar and had a great experience. When we checked out I forgot my iPad in the room. The hotel staff found it and called me to let me know very shortly after we left. I was so grateful for their honesty and going out of their way to make sure it went home with me. Thank you Holland!

Yelp
Great place to stay! Beautiful hotel and very nice staff! Missed out on the Century Bar and Grill. It was closed for renovations. Definitely will come back!

Yelp
Anniversary trip through West Texas included a night in Alpine, TX. The 1920's Holland Hotel sounded perfect. We checked in and had a look around the lobby. It was old Texas, what I would expect a hotel of this history to look like. They had one room set up with a pool table. The bar, it opened at 5, had a beautiful ceiling with light fixtures made of old telephone pole insulators. The employees were very friendly and service was first rate. We had dinner reservations at 6:30 but decided to see if they could get us in early, which they could. We ate dinner, blackened Redfish.. very good ! The room was small, by today's standard. It reminded me of the old hotels in England. It was very clean, tastily decorated and the king size bed was perfect.

Carla T.

Yelp
Do not stay here. Used to be great...apparently they are corporate now. Bar and restaurant were closed for renovations and when I called they said it was not. Our room had no air-conditioning...staff sent someone up twice. We came in at night it still wasn't fixed. Alternate room offered by the hotel had horrible beds with springs in them, so we had to move back to the room with no AC . Staff was resistant to offering a discount. Now we have to make other arrangements for our stay tomorrow night, and it will not be at this hotel! I have stayed here many times over the years. Truly disappointed in the new management!

Yelp
Stayed here last month and had a perfect time. It was on a pretty quiet weekend so I felt like me and my group could really take our time exploring the place, it has quite an interesting history. I don't remember which of my friends recommended I stay here but whoever you are, thanks, it was the highlight of my Texas trip. Everyone at the front desk was amazing and for once in my life I didn't have housekeepers opening my door in the morning in spite of a DND sign. Love you guys, will be back!

Yelp
In one word disgraceful. This hotel could be a gem due to its location and architecture. However, I never saw the staff, not one person. The room attendant did not clean the room AT ALL. A note was left that the bed could NOT be made because we left a phone charger on it. There was no explanation, though, as to why the trash was not removed, the room was not cleaned and the wet towels not removed. NEVER again. There's a new Holiday Inn close by, that's where we'll stay when I come to see my kid during the next for years.

Yelp
Husband and I wanted to stay in a hotel with ambiance and not a chain hotel. The Holland did not disappoint. Beautiful lobby and courtyard. We stayed here at night and drove to Big Bend every day to hike. One day we even drove to Marfa, Ft Davis and the McDonald Observatory. Ear plugs are available for the trains that come through right across the street from the hotel and honk their horns. Have to say you get used to them after a few nights. Also, depends on the night how many come through. One night had three trains and one night just one. Bar and restaurant are in the hotel but not open every day. Seems to be the standard for the restaurants in the area also. We did enjoy our stay here and would recommend it.

Yelp
The place could be very good but it needs updating on almost everything, including hiring better cleaners.

Barbara H.

Yelp
Love this hotel and have stayed there many times. Most recent stay disappointing because elevator broken and at age 74 dragging luggage to 3rd floor prohibitive. Also receptionist unfriendly about my little dogs. Always welcomed in the past.

Yelp
Solid 2.5 stars. First off, I must have lucked out when I was able to book a room via phone because calling the same number after that was a challenge to get anyone on the phone. This is a nice quaint hotel with a mix of good and bad. It has a bar and restaurant and offer a pretty decent complimentary breakfast with quiche, fruit, biscuits, oatmeal, coffee and orange juice. The lobby décor was rustic and pleasant. Rooms are small. Probably due to it being a historical hotel. Ice machine worked so that was a plus. Grateful it worked as the fridge was a chill box at best on the max setting. The room consisted of a king, which appeared to be more like a queen size bed, and a couch with a pull out sleeper. The couch was pushed against the foot of the bed and the TV was in front of that. Needless to say it was a tight fit for four adults. Lucky for me, I like my in-laws. LOL After the first evening of showers etc, my mother-in-law noticed that we only had two hand towels and not four. She notified the front desk in the morning and upon our return that day we had four of everything, literally - 4 shampoo, conditioner, lotion, bar soap, wash cloth, hand towel and large towel. While watching TV before bed, it lost signal several times which required an auto reboot that took 10 to 12 minutes. The coffee and bottled water were complimentary but we double checked on the water as most hotels will charge extra for this and there was no sign. Overall, this place is fair with the most disappointing thing was being misled regarding room size. Oh wait, as I'm writing this, the TV resets again, SERIOUSLY! Back to being misled, I advertised that there would be four adults in the room and was told that the King with sleeper sofa was the largest room they had. When we checked in the front desk agent was surprised that four adults were staying in such a room. At a later time, I asked another desk agent about the room sizes and was informed that two queen deluxe was a bigger room. Although the sleeping arrangements were awkward, we only stayed two nights and were not in the room for the majority of the day and used it to freshen up and sleep.

Yelp
I'm actually giving Holland a few more stars than actually deserved because I love Texas history and success stories. Lets start with my story. We weren't planning on staying here at all; instead pulling our RV out west from Austin. Two days before departing, my ranch truck developed a misfire and couldn't be relied on to tow anything 8 hours away. We scrambled to change every aspect of our trip quickly. Our first night we were able to trade an RV space in Junction,Texas for a small cabin. While another family member canceled our RV park reservations in the Big Bend area I called the Holland to see about rooms for those nights. I spoke with Tiffany who told me they had the space, but would have to change rooms for the second night to honor reservations. I agreed that we would pack up after the first night; and check in again the next day. I gave my credit card info and hung up the phone. Upon arrival, we were only booked for one night. She assured me that she would add in the second night after we hung up. Management at that time scrambled to fit us in led by Sidney and the front desk associate. We were able to stay just like promised with a discount given to us for our trouble. Fine, could have been worse. Bad stuff out of the way, I love this hotel. Brilliant remodel that starts from the exterior doors forward in the lobby. Comfy couches adorn the main floor along with the front desk with restrooms in the back. Trendy outdoor space for cocktails circa the 20's describes be outdoor seating area. The bar is street side with plenty of windows for people watching. Near to my heart was the pool table across from the bar that reminded of the old barn I used to live in. I spent my mornings and late evenings brushing up on my billiard skills. Miss my old bachelor pad before I got married! Rooms (plural) were nice. First night had a better view than the second. I wouldn't have even noticed the mini fridge in the room if the kiddo hadn't opened every drawer and cabinet door. For those worried about the train noise, earplugs are provided. I personally didn't need them relying on a few craft cocktails from the bars in the area as a sleep aid. Can't wait to cruise back into Alpine and stay again!

Yelp
Love this place so much! We usually have the best experiences! The bar manager is amazing and makes the best drink is and conversation! He is a true gem! It's such an enjoyable place! Our last stay the front desk staff wasn't very knowledgeable and we had no hot water to shower with. But this isn't a regular occurrence when we stay so I'm chalking it up to just an off weekend.

Yelp
Perfect location centrally located. Bar inside Hotel has a great atmosphere. Will definitely be back. The room was pretty awesome as well.

Yelp
Has 4 star potential, but it's not for sleepers! The place has a lot of charm, but as far as a good night's rest is concerned, we won't be staying there again. The walls are thin, and our door had a big crack in it, letting in all the noise from the dreadful ice machine all night. We asked for a room further away, but were told none were available. There's only one ice machine, so it was our dumb luck. No rest for the road weary! We heard every word spoken next door in the morning. I felt kinda bad like I was snooping, but it was unavoidable. The bed was - crunchy? Maybe it was encased in plastic, not sure though. Upon checkout, we were told we'd get a discount given the ice machine noise, but I was still charged the full $175 at the time of this review. Be nice if they were good on their word! That's a lot of dough for a little charm, a so so breakfast, and dark circles under my eyes. Hrumph 4/6/18 They refunded me all of $25 for the night.

Yelp
We were so excited when we made reservations at the historic Holland Hotel for our trip to the Big Bend area. It came highly recommended by friends. We had booked our room for 3 nights. When we checked in to the hotel we were told that our room was on the 3rd floor--no problem. However, we were also informed that the elevator wasn't working! We are seniors, sohaving to carry our luggage up 3 flights of stairs wasn't good! (This was during Spring break, so I guess there were no rooms on the bottom floor available.) Then, we had to climb or descend those stairs twice a day. The room was just ok--antique furniture, etc. The bathroom was tiny. The room was clean and did have a comfortable bed. We noticed the earplugs on the nightstand and assumed they were to block out the noise from the train that runs by across the street. We didn't use them, as we are heavy sleepers. Another bad thing, is there is no breakfast served at the hotel; they do have coffee and snack bars in the lobby. They do serve a wonderful brunch on Sundays. One good thing--our tv wasn't working when we got to our room, but a very nice technician came up promptly and solved the problem. All in all, it would have been sufficient if we were just staying there 1 night, but it just wasn't what we expected.

Yelp
Disclaimer: I stayed here when the Covid 19 had just begun to relax so the hotel had some catching up to do. When my husband and I arrived at the hotel there was an envelope at the front desk with our name on it. A letter inside informed us there would be no housekeeping service while we were there. Not a deal breaker. Only one time, though, during our four night stay did they leave clean towels, toilet paper, shampoo and soap at our door. I thought that might be a daily thing done in order to practice social distancing, but the next time we got clean towels we actually had to request them. The hotel seemed deserted as there was rarely anyone at the front desk. After visiting the Gage Hotel in Marathon and the Hotel Paisano in Marfa the contrast in guest services was startling. Their guests had a front desk person and daily housekeeping. Plus they had a nice outdoor area that wasn't brutally hot to dine at. I wish I could be reviewing the Holland during a normal time because I really hate to give bad reviews, but it is what it is.

Yelp
Thank God I didn't stay in Van Horn, Texas. I was meant to spend the night there but the entire town had lost water. So I pressed on to Alpine knowing zero about this jewel. Exhausted, we pulled up in front of a hotel right out of Lonesome Dove. Immediate happiness! The Holland was built in 1912 and has kept true to its roots. Chloe met me upon arrival and this young zoology major helped me with my pets and ridiculous amount of luggage. Check the photos of others to see the hotel's magnificence. It is without parallel if you want to return to the heyday of the old West. The room was authentic and very, very charming and comfortable. The town is an artist colony as well as a hub for cattlemen to get away from the ranch. A special thank you to Perry who loaded up my car. Perry is engaged to the Holland Hotel's manager - who by all accounts is doing a superior job making a bit of history available to us all. By the way, there's an in-house restaurant that is an easy five-stars. Try their burger with caramelized onions.

Yelp
Upon arriving in Alpine and driving around, we were quite glad to have booked our 4-night stay at Holland Hotel. It's located in the center of the little town and walking distance from many businesses but most were closed due to Covid-19 so all we could do was window shop after dinner in the evenings, sit on a bench outside the hotel and watch the trains pass by with Amtrak stopping right there. We had self-check in and if there was anyone else staying there same time as us, we never saw them, the place was very quiet and we didn't hear the train at all but we were on the back side of the building. We only saw someone at front desk on our first morning there so it was a very isolated feeling but not creepy and also a good thing with pandemic happening. Needless to say, the hotel restaurant is closed too so but we were able to find breakfast and dinner nearby. We'd stay at Holland Hotel again.

Yelp
Just stayed 3 nights at the Holland. Beautiful hotel, and EXCELLENT bar and patio. Staff was wonderful, bed was comfy. I am so bummed to knock a star off for the weird housekeeping. Someone clearly came into my room during the day to do "housekeeping", as the bed was re-made (but only sorta - it was weird - pillows askew and everything not quite tucked in - it was like someone got distracted, had to leave, and forgot to come back to finish). Toiletries were not replaced, trash not emptied, and towels not replaced (even when on the floor). I thought it was a fluke, but this happened every day. Despite this weirdness, I would not hesitate to stay here again - super convenient right across from the Amtrak station.

Yelp
I stayed here, albeit on a visit that was abbreviated by external events and truly enjoyed it. Whilst it is a bit of a drive to and from Big Bend, it's location allows you to easily visit Marfa, Ft Davis and the local state parks; which are often overlooked. The hotel and restaurant had been affected by COVID yet it was very clear they are taking all measures necessary to protect guests while making a stay pleasurable. I was looking forward, and remain so, to dining in their restaurant. I am reserving the fifth star until I dine there. The location was quite handy to start with. It's downtown and within walking distance of a number of activities. Parking is ample. It's quiet, very quiet. Reception was nicely organized for the arrival I had, an early drop of luggage to get to Big Bend then a late pick up of room key. The room was quite spacious and very clean with nice appointments. The bed was very comfortable and the room temperature and light well balanced. It does get very dark so if you're not used to that be prepared but the room makes for a great deep slumber. I returned to the room after an epic 7 miler in Big Bend, anticipating a shower my first day there. I was not disappointed! The shower is the high point! Lots of water pressure, hot water and great linens. I've stayed in expensive Omni resorts whose showers could take a serious lesson from this bath. It made coming into the room after a day of wandering around that much more enjoyable. I am oddly fanatical about drinking tap water, the water quality did not disappoint. It's really nice to be able to top off a Camelbak without buying water. This hotel is a must experience for those who enjoy historical travel. It's decor and ambience plus staff remind you of a time when travel was something to enjoy, not something to tolerate.

Yelp
So beautiful.... I spent time in the lobby mid day when it's quiet and in the awesome room facing the train I never heard. The library in the lobby doesn't have much in terms of books BUT we all have our kindles.... There's no one here nor in the awesome chairs in front of the fireplace so we hang out while everyone else shops with the tourists down the street. Never Asked for anything so can't help you with amenities,..but I came here to be selfishly LOST in my thoughts and with my family.

Yelp
We loved the Century bar and grill. We enjoyed our small but well-kept room. We love their pet policy- just 30 bucks no matter the amount of pets, no matter the amount of days. That's truly a pet friendly hotel. We couldn't be happier that this was the first place we stayed during our visit to this area. We'll definitely be staying here again in March. We've already booked our trip!

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised as I lived in the area years ago and this was not a safe area. Kimberly assured us that the hotel was renovated and safe. She was 100% correct! Within walking distance of the PATH, the Newport Mall, and Jersey City/Hoboken attractions. Clean, comfortable rooms with free parking! Staff is excellent- friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Kimberly is AWESOME!!!! Nice breakfast and coffee/tea/water available 24/7. A hidden gem in Jersey City that is not to be missed!

Yelp
1/15/2022 arrived to hotel excited for a fun adventure after reading reviews... not to be, check in went fine, bar staff very cool, hostess needs some work, dinner of pork chops extremely bland. mattress uncomfortable and the kicker was when I went down to lobby at 6am the doors on patio area were ajar and some homeless dude was chilling in the corner of the lobby. no ma'am not coming back - go to van horn instead and stay at El capitain

Yelp
Train Train Train. Beds are so uneven I had to sleep on the make shift couch, stayed at another hotel on my second night for lack of sleep on the first night. wanted to check out early but charged the whole stay in advance. I guess I know why now they too money up front and offer no refund without out 48 hr notice. We will not return to this hotel. Coffee was good tho Rooms were reminiscent of the era.

Yelp
Nice place in middle of no where . Clean , quite , was something different than staying at your standard chain hotel . We got the room with the whirlpool tub. Staff was super friendly. My only complaint is price . It's to expensive for what u her in a town were there is nothing to do.

Yelp
Had to update my 5 star review. What a bummer. They took away their military discount, which made this hotel affordable for my family and I. Man, that knocked the wind right out my sails when I called and she told me that today.

Yelp
Great accommodations, staff, food and location. I love historic places and Holland Hotel fits the bill. Dog friendly.

Yelp
The Holland Hotel has a lot of history, and the owners made sure to maintain some of that when it was remodeled a few years back. One of the "historical" prospective is no telephones in the room and having to use an actual key to open and lock the door. But the rooms are nicely appointed with furnishings paying homage to the Big Ben region. The bathrooms are a bit small but not outdated and there are toiletries from the spa next door. They do supply a set of ear plugs to deaden the trumpeting sound of the trains rolling through town in the middle of the night. Staff is friendly, and the hotel does have a great bar and even better restaurant. It's a great place to stay while in Alpine.

Yelp
We compared this to the Paisano Hotel in Marfa. This place was newly renovated, had live music on Thursday night, a very good restaurant, friendly staff, and a new chef from the Netherlands. Cost to stay here is lower than Marfa, check it out.

Yelp
I stayed at Holland Hotel on my way to Marfa. I chose Holland as it was the only place in Alpine that had a bar within walking distance, much needed after a 7 hour drive. The staff is friendly and the lobby is warm and inviting. Couches, chairs with tables and a fire place filled the room with a feeling of comfort. The hotel has a historical feel sprinkled with a few modern amenities. The rooms have a mounted flat screen TV, coffee maker, microwave and fridge. The rooms are clean and neat however the bed takes firmness to the extreme. I initially liked the hotel until the trains started rolling through approximately every 30-45 minutes (note the hotel is across the street from railroad tracks). This along with the paper thin walls allowing you to hear every detail of your neighbors conversations as well as the time they spend in the bathroom made it difficult to get a good nights sleep. A few of their (semi) redeeming qualities are they have a continental breakfast, wifi and friendly staff.

Yelp
This place has all the charm you'd expect in an historic hotel, and a good deal of "luxury" as well. It's reputation is well-deserved as "the" hotel in the area. Others have talked about the train noise (although I did not notice it... perhaps because I got a "less desirable" room on the back/north side of the building. Kudos to the staff. I'd thought I'd reserved a "double" with two beds, but got a "single" (with king bed). When I inquired, I was promptly and pleasantly offered a SECOND room with another single, AT NO COST. No "sorry, there's nothing I can do" or any of the usual excuses. They simply made it right. :o) THAT'S customer service. The complimentary breakfast is nice, but average. I'll definitely be back, and I'll recommend this hotel to everyone I know.

Yelp
Very safe COVID procedures. Lovely lobby area and picturesque outdoor patio. Restaurant was good, very attentive server who educated us on the menu. Large suite room. Looking forward to returning after COVID is resolved. Alpine is a great town.

Yelp
Carolyn and I had a most Excellent meal.We had a very good French onion soup and the escargot was well prepared.I ordered a Ribeye with Hollandaise which should be be their signature steak.I asked for rare and got it ! The Hollandaise sauce was as good as any i have had in Montreal.Carolyn had Salmon which was also first rate and the staff was eager and attentive. This place was a great starer to bolster us for the Marfa Lights A sure thing !!!

Yelp
Very nice hotel. I've seen lots of comments about the loudness of the trains, and even the hotel mentions it and left us ear plugs in our room just in case, but our room was on the other side of the hall from the one that faced the tracks and I never really noticed the trains. Bed is really comfy, room large and lovely. We noticed the downstairs big room looked familiar... turns out the Eidellwiess Cafe used to be housed downstairs. We'd eaten the about five years ago when last we came through the area. With no food in house, the hotel provided us with complimentary breakfast vouches at Bread and Breakfast a block from the hotel. Also provided us with one free drink each day of our stay in the hotel bar. The only negative I can come up with is the work they're doing to open a new restaurant on premises. On occasion the construction noise was a little loud, and from time to time we got weird odors like the smell of sealants. Otherwise, a great time in a lovely hotel!

Yelp
On a trip to Big Bend & Marfa, decided to stay here and it was great! For being smack in the middle of nowhere it was very clean, and nothing like the chains, had this cozy feel to it. I didn't like the restroom because of how small it was but for the most part it was clean, won't bring it down a star because of that. Staff was very friendly. This is a hotel right out of the movies, it's old, you can feel it but well preserved. It's old fashion and the stairs & hallways are a little scary but it's what gives it that charm. Bed was comfy, & they hand write notes to you. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
We stayed four nights at the Holland Hotel - the first night was not good, but the staff could not have been more helpful in moving us to a different room. I appreciate their attentiveness throughout our stay. The second room - 103 in the Wright Building - was excellent, with a separate bedroom and a full kitchen. We enjoyed the patio (with a fire in the fireplace!), and the bar/restaurant. I plan to return to Alpine in the future, and will certainly stay at the Holland Hotel again!

Yelp
Nice old building in a good location for exploring downtown, it is a bit close to the train tracks (earplugs provided) so be prepared to experience train noise! Nice bar and outdoor area, friendly staff, room furnishings and decor was somewhere between 'old style' and 'old' though.

Yelp
The Holland Hotel is as comfortable as could be, with that classic and sophisticated Southwest charm. It may not be a traditional 5-Star hotel in the way of an overly luxurious boutique hotel where each piece of furniture is an antique and the stained-glass windows were imported from Europe or something equally unimportant. My traveling partners (4 of us in total) stayed in a wonderfully spacious suite for less than $200 per night with breakfast at the cafe down the street included. Yeah, the trains were loud, but it almost fit the ambiance. The interior patio was shaded and relaxing, and will be even better when the restaurant/brewpub is finished. There isn't a more comfortable and affordable hotel in all of West Texas as far as I'm concerned. CANNOT WAIT TO COME BACK!

Yelp
Historic hotel with a beautiful bar. Had their version of a Hot Toddy and it was delicious. The bartender was super friendly and we enjoyed our visit.

Yelp
The newly renovated Holland is everything we hoped for and more! I love a historical hotel with character and this did not disappoint. Gorgeous lobby, super friendly front desk, gave us toothpaste and a late checkout so we could have a bit more time to enjoy our perfect room. Spacious but cozy, this hotel is absolutely wonderful. And amazingly affordable for two travelers on a budget. We enjoyed reading spooky ghost stories but no paranormal experiences for us. ;) The bar made a top notch old fashioned and in the morning brunch at the restaurant was delicious. Stay here!
