We stayed for a 5 night break (18-23 May 2025) as part of short holiday. I note that we have been coming to the hotel every year since about 2017, so this must have been our 9th annual visit; which must be recommendation indeed. We stayed in Room 3 on this occasion. It was very comfortable, spacious and welcoming, with a superb private balcony. ||Gourmet food has always one of the main reasons for coming to The Horn of Plenty and we have never been disappointed. We comprise a “true veggie and a no-fish” couple which one might assume presents some challenges to the chef and his team. However, the restaurant manager and the chef have always ensured that we had good choices over the five days (even though you had quite a short menu in previous years). The new menus are terrific and enable comprehensive choices for our menu preferences. In particular the A La Carte was a great addition to the Table d'Hote and Tasting menus. My wife was particularly impressed with the new menus, and she said that the Tasting menu during our stay was exceptional (Tom the chef, had organised some interesting and superb alternatives to the fishy and non-veg courses). In particular, Tom had prepared a bespoke course of mushroom tartare for us instead of one of the fish dishes. It was superb. ||Sarah, Douglas and the team were particularly professional, attentive and polite, even on occasions when the tables were very busy. The lady who served our breakfasts on several mornings was also very attentive and helpful.||It was good to see the owner for a few days while we were there and we were glad that the high standards of the hotel had been well maintained and improved, with some upgrading and re-decorating, despite the alleged current period of fiscal hardship within the hotel industry and the wider UK. ||We would have found name-badges to be a useful addition to your services; we would have liked to mention particular staff members, but appreciate that they might prefer to be "anonymous". ||We look forward to seeing the staff and hotel again on our next trip  - and also thank them for arranging the good weather for us all week.

Lovely comfortable bed and nice bathroom with bath. Food nouvelle cuisine.|Lovely grounds to walk around. Wonderful garden to visit near by The Garden House. A great little break.

I went with my husband and our two kids to The Horn of Plenty and our experience was truly exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the spacious rooms, which offer a comfortable and elegant space for a relaxing stay. The views from the hotel are simply breathtaking, with landscapes that leave you speechless and make every moment special. Jeremy, the owner, and all the staff, Everet, Sarah and the waitress, did an incredible job making us feel welcome and cared for throughout our visit. Their attention to detail and warmth really make a difference. The cuisine at this hotel is top-notch. The dishes they serve are exquisite, with flavors that delight the palate and impeccable presentation. It’s a truly exclusive place that combines luxury, comfort, and a memorable culinary experience. I highly recommend The Horn of Plenty to anyone looking for a special getaway in a beautiful setting with exceptional service. We will definitely return! Pet friendly and kids are always welcome. Thank you Jeremy and all the staff🙏🏼☺️

Our second visit and we thought the food had improved. A small menu but better thought out and presented. Staff as excellent as before, rooms tastefully furnished and amazing reviews. Some excellent canapes and lovely treats with our coffees greatly added to the dining experience. One minor point would be that between courses it would be ideal if staff could remove any breadcrumbs messy guests like ourselves leave all over the table (having eaten too much of the lovely bread). Finally I hope that the owners have booked the buildings in for some external decoration over the next year or so as whilst it looks fine this year, next year it may begin to look tired but that is being very picky!|I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and restaurant to any one who likes a relaxed, quality experience. The hotel is in a beautiful setting with attentive staff and offers it's guests something a little special, well done to everyone involved with The Horn of Plenty.

We have been visiting The Horn of Plenty for over 10 years, we chose it for its location, it’s high standards and because it is dog friendly, it was originally recommended by friends that live in Yelverton. A major plus is that for a dog friendly hotel it is spotless, apart from the dog treats and water bowls dotted around the public areas, even non dog owners couldn’t fail to be impressed.|I first reviewed this hotel in 2017 and felt it deserved an updated one as it is now under new ownership. We arrived on Saturday having booked the Escape to the Country 2 night stay, this included Devon Cream Tea on arrival, we were fortunate enough to enjoy delicious warm homemade scones on the terrace (with Sophie our Spanish Water Dog) it was a beautiful sunny afternoon and was most welcome after a 4 hour drive. That evening a 3 course dinner was included, all courses were beautifully presented and tasted as good as they looked, it came with a homemade brioche sharing loaf with 2 choices of flavoured butters, the bread arrived warm, it was yummy. It was also my husband’s birthday so our dinner finished with a happy birthday message artistically written on a plate with chocolates. Our 2nd evening was a 6 course tasting menu which could be paired with wines, these wines complemented all courses, another exceptional meal. This is where I have to make my only criticism the final course was a chocolate mousse which even I couldn’t finish as it was so rich (Peter managed all of his)|This 2 day package also includes breakfast, both hot and cold choices are available, the chef’s homemade granola was very good, from the hot choices I chose eggs Benedict and Royal which were both prepared well, poached eggs just soft not too runny and the right amount of hollandaise sauce. As we chose to have our dog with us all our meals were taken in the restaurant area where the bar is, as dogs are not permitted in the conservatory, we had the same window table for all meals, overlooking the grounds we had a crisp white tablecloth and fresh flowers which was a lovely touch.|We stayed in room 11 our first time in this room. There are bifold doors opening out onto the private terrace which had seating for four (be aware it is not enclosed Sophie had to be kept on her lead) we overlooked the beautiful gardens and the the Tamar Valley, looking even better as the weather was so good when we arrived. This room is the largest that we have stayed in, all rooms have their merits, the only ones I would avoid in the future would be those described as cosy, but that is because we have Sophie and it’s a bit squashed with her bed. The biscuits provided to enjoy with hot beverages in the room were made by the chef, which made it a very personal touch.|Now I should mention the staff, many of whom have been working at the hotel since I have been visiting they are all very loyal and passionate about the product on offer, this in turn makes for a great atmosphere for the guests. The restaurant manager is a huge asset to the Horn of Plenty, she is open and friendly, works hard making her a great role model for the rest of her team. I also had a chat with the new gardener when exercising Sophie early in the morning, he has made even more areas accessible for exploring quests and their dogs.||The location is superb for the Tamar trail and Tavistock. This will definitely not be our last visit

From the moment you arrive at The Horn of Plenty, you’re wrapped in the sheer beauty of its surroundings — think rolling hills, lush greenery, and the kind of peaceful silence that instantly slows time. The scenery alone is worth the visit, but what truly sets this place apart is everything else.||The food is nothing short of exceptional. We chose the tasting menu, and every course was a revelation — inventive, delicious, and full of local flavour. It's a must-try experience for anyone visiting. Each dish is a perfect balance of creativity and comfort, showcasing the finest local ingredients. The wine pairing was outstanding also. ||The rooms are immaculate. Spotlessly clean, thoughtfully designed, and incredibly comfortable, they offer the perfect retreat after a day of indulgence. Every detail has clearly been considered to ensure a relaxing stay.||What ties it all together is the staff. Warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, they make you feel like more than just a guest — you’re part of something special. The staff went above and beyond to make our family feel welcome. They were wonderfully warm and accommodating with our daughters — leaving a game of croquet in the garden especially for them and even leaving a cookie in the room, which absolutely made their day||Whether you’re celebrating something or just need a proper escape, The Horn of Plenty is a gem that delivers on every front. It’s rare to find somewhere that blends luxury, personality, and genuine hospitality so seamlessly. We can’t wait to return.

Love this place. Our second visit here. Dog friendly which was great. They left a bowl, towel and treats for the dog in the room and he's allowed to pad around the gardens. Great rooms. We were in the dog friendly coach house conversion. Fantastic food. Supper never disappoints. Fantastic views from the terrace with a glass of wine and then supper overlooking the valley. Breakfast was delicious but service not so great and buffet items not replenished. Had to keep asking for things. Otherwise fantastic.

Our second visit to this fabulous place. In the most glorious location with wonderful views, also access to places of interest such as Lydford Gorge, Devil’s Cauldron, Cotehele, Buckland Abbey, Tavistock and Dartmoor. ||This time we had the Gourmet three night stay. We had a very friendly warm greeting. Our ground floor room, described as ‘cosy’ was more than adequate size with every comfort, the balcony was lovely to sit on in the sunshine, with the views to behold. ||The food and service were outstanding. Sitting enjoying the views. The flavours and presentation were exquisite. Breakfasts too were delicious. A special shout out to the lovely Sarah. ||We really loved our stay and are looking forward to the next one.

Yelp
When I was at a training course down in Plymouth, I took the opportunity to check out the local fine dining options. The Horn of Plenty is a country house hotel with an ambitious kitchen obviously aiming for higher things. It's located an adventurous 30 minute drive north of Plymouth and the last part down a single car width country lane did induce a few palpitations However, once you turn into the drive, the lit fountain instantly reassures you that you've arrived in a classy establishment. I was impressed that the staff knew who I was instantly when I walked in The pay-off for the adventurous drive is that you're located in the middle of gorgeous countryside and my only regret was that it was too dark to see the wonderful vista across the valley to Dartmoor which would normally have been visible from window next to the lovely table they gave me It is a classy dining room. Tables are well spaced out to give feeling of space. It is nice and brightly lit Mondays at the Horn of Plenty is the traditional Pot Luck Monday. The quality is just as high but there is only a choice of 3 dishes in each section but the price is also significantly reduced from their usual price charged in the rest of the week My requested freshly squeezed orange juice was quickly sorted It was nice to have canapés to start off the meal, reflecting the ambition of the kitchen. There was innovation with these. An unusual egg ravioli needed a touch more seasoning but was a novel idea. 'Fish & chip' was a lovely single crispy mouthful. Curried parsnip purée came in an edible cone There was nice rosemary & cranberry warm bread and a brown granary roll with perfect crust. More restaurants should serve warm bread. An amuse of celeriac & truffle soup kicked off the meal. There was a great hit of truffle from the truffle oil and my palate was truly awakened for the meal ahead My starter was slow braised pork belly with prune salsa & sweet potato. Beautifully plated, the pork had been expertly rendered to keep the rich moistness but cooking the fat sufficiently to remove the fatty aftertaste that can sometimes come with eating belly The main was sage & bacon stuffed chicken with cep purée, gratin potato and truffle jus. Everything smelled divine. The humble chicken was elevated with the other ingredients and it remained moist I chose the mandarin delice with orange parfait for dessert. The only mistake of the evening came with this course. The parfait was served too cold so the orange flavour was muted Overall, this kitchen has some serious ambitions and they're well on the way. I love the look of their tasting menu and it was a shame that they don't serve it on a Monday. I wish them luck on their quest for higher recognition!

Yelp
On my recent trip to the southwest part of England I unfortunately ate plenty of bad food. Now while the English may be known for many good things like the Beatles, attempted world domination, fish n chips, and Benny Hill, they surely are not a culinary destination. So it was indeed a pleasant surprise when I had the chance to dine at Horn of Plenty on the night before my departure back to the States. The entrance to this cozy restaurant, which is also a hotel, is simply elegant and provides you with that quintessential English backdrop. From the moment you walk through the front door, you feel as if you are coming over to visit a friend for dinner. Horn of Plenty looks like it was homed a family, so that may be the reason you get that feeling. Once passed the hallway you enter the restaurant. The decor is simple yet breathtaking and was very welcoming. Upon sitting down the wine never stopped flowing, the food was downright delicious, and although it felt like there was no room for dessert or coffee, I made room dammit! I will not go into great detail of what I ate because to be quite honest to menu included things I never heard of before and I probably would not do it justice. But I did enjoy some quality salmon with risotto, moist and tasty chicken with a side of asparagus and mashed potatoes, a mango sorbet with various other sweet goodies, and a tasty coffee. This restaurant is located about 20 minutes from the tourist friendly Tintagel Castle.
