We have been visiting The Horn of Plenty for over 10 years, we chose it for its location, it’s high standards and because it is dog friendly, it was originally recommended by friends that live in Yelverton. A major plus is that for a dog friendly hotel it is spotless, apart from the dog treats and water bowls dotted around the public areas, even non dog owners couldn’t fail to be impressed.|I first reviewed this hotel in 2017 and felt it deserved an updated one as it is now under new ownership. We arrived on Saturday having booked the Escape to the Country 2 night stay, this included Devon Cream Tea on arrival, we were fortunate enough to enjoy delicious warm homemade scones on the terrace (with Sophie our Spanish Water Dog) it was a beautiful sunny afternoon and was most welcome after a 4 hour drive. That evening a 3 course dinner was included, all courses were beautifully presented and tasted as good as they looked, it came with a homemade brioche sharing loaf with 2 choices of flavoured butters, the bread arrived warm, it was yummy. It was also my husband’s birthday so our dinner finished with a happy birthday message artistically written on a plate with chocolates. Our 2nd evening was a 6 course tasting menu which could be paired with wines, these wines complemented all courses, another exceptional meal. This is where I have to make my only criticism the final course was a chocolate mousse which even I couldn’t finish as it was so rich (Peter managed all of his)|This 2 day package also includes breakfast, both hot and cold choices are available, the chef’s homemade granola was very good, from the hot choices I chose eggs Benedict and Royal which were both prepared well, poached eggs just soft not too runny and the right amount of hollandaise sauce. As we chose to have our dog with us all our meals were taken in the restaurant area where the bar is, as dogs are not permitted in the conservatory, we had the same window table for all meals, overlooking the grounds we had a crisp white tablecloth and fresh flowers which was a lovely touch.|We stayed in room 11 our first time in this room. There are bifold doors opening out onto the private terrace which had seating for four (be aware it is not enclosed Sophie had to be kept on her lead) we overlooked the beautiful gardens and the the Tamar Valley, looking even better as the weather was so good when we arrived. This room is the largest that we have stayed in, all rooms have their merits, the only ones I would avoid in the future would be those described as cosy, but that is because we have Sophie and it’s a bit squashed with her bed. The biscuits provided to enjoy with hot beverages in the room were made by the chef, which made it a very personal touch.|Now I should mention the staff, many of whom have been working at the hotel since I have been visiting they are all very loyal and passionate about the product on offer, this in turn makes for a great atmosphere for the guests. The restaurant manager is a huge asset to the Horn of Plenty, she is open and friendly, works hard making her a great role model for the rest of her team. I also had a chat with the new gardener when exercising Sophie early in the morning, he has made even more areas accessible for exploring quests and their dogs.||The location is superb for the Tamar trail and Tavistock. This will definitely not be our last visit
