Absolutely brilliant New Year break. We've stayed here many times and knew that we wouldn't be disappointed. The staff, food and overall experience exceeded even our high expectations. This time we were in room 5 which was great although the lighting is a little dim. Even so the whole stay was fantastic. All of the staff were friendly, happy and attentive without being intrusive. If Jeremy wanted a new venture he could have his team give masterclasses in hospitality. This applies to all of the team but especially Sarah (the smiling go-go dancer) Everest (the waiter and DJ) and Amelia (the waitress whose smile would brighten the dullest day). Also Donna on reception who doubles up as the lounge fire lighter.|A big thank you to all the staff whose names escape us and we look forward to our next visit.

We stayed at The Horn of Plenty for New Year’s Eve. We were delighted with the warm welcome from the receptionist who showed us to our room and even carried our luggage. The food was magnificent, the brioche bread with balsamic vinegar butter was delicious and the venison so tender and tasteful, in fact all of the six courses were faultless. The restaurant staff were extremely helpful, nothing was too much trouble and so polite. Our room was huge, tastefully decorated with far reaching views across the Tamar Valley. All in all it truly was lovely. Thank you to everyone for making our stay so memorable. We will be back.

Wonderful Valentine’s tasting menu at The Horn of Plenty. Very friendly and welcoming staff, easily accommodating when we had to leave earlier than planned. Lovely atmosphere. Would definitely come back for another meal or maybe even stay.

What can I say? I stayed at the hotel over the festive period to get away from the usual Christmas chaos and I was not to be disappointed. The food certainly exceeded my expectations the chefs came into the dining room after the meal to the applauds of my fellow guests. I expected great but received fantastic. Everyone was extremely helpful, the wine recommendations were perfect - thank you Sarah - and cheers to Jeremy the owner of the hotel for joining me to toast the new year.|If you are of discerning nature this is the hotel for you. Nothing was too much. |Thank you HoP and I wish you a good 2025.

My wife and I returned to The Horn of Plenty over the New Year period having stayed there many times in previous years including New Year. We always loved this place for its intimacy, friendliness and excellent food. We both felt the standard of food had deteriorated a smidgin for a few years leading up to lockdown causing us to seek solace elsewhere but, hey, everybody deserves another chance, so, once again back to our origins. I’m delighted to say we were not disappointed. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, the rooms were as excellent and as comfortable as ever. Everything you would want for an overnight or short break stay, clean, cosy with an element to detail. What enhanced our stay even more was the return to good food, quality, variety and well presented!|The new owner welcomed us on our arrival and took time to take an interest in our wishes and what we were anticipating.

It’s an honour to be photographing weddings at the incredible Horn of Plenty in 2025 and 2026. Perched on the edge of Dartmoor, this luxurious country house hotel offers breathtaking views, elegant interiors, and a reputation for outstanding service. The venue’s beautiful gardens and sweeping vistas provide a spectacular backdrop for wedding photography, and the intimate atmosphere makes it a truly special place for couples to celebrate. I’m so excited to capture the love and joy of my couples’ big days at this wonderful venue. Best regards, James Clarke Just James Wedding Photography

We pre-booked the lunch menu as we were in the area for other reasons and this was one of the only places open this time of year. It's really easy to find and the drive up is really beautiful however parking seemed limited. ||When we arrived we were lead to the drawing room to wait for our table to be ready (we arrived a bit early so this was a nice touch rather than us standing around). The only strange thing was that we were given the menus and our order was taken in the drawing room. Strange but not a big deal. We were then led to our table by the very helpful host. Both hosts on that day were excellent and struck the right balance between checking on us and leaving us alone to eat. ||As part of the lunch menu you are given some warm bread and water at the start of the meal. The bread was good and was well received as we had been traveling in the morning and hadn't eaten since early in the morning. For starters we both had the Haddock fish cakes. They were really good and the perfect size for a starter. For main I had the chicken breast which was perfectly cooked. It was served with mash, broccoli, caramelised onion puree and a roasted onion. This course was solid cooking and I would 100% have it again. The desert was my favourite part of the meal. We both had the chocolate cremeux with the star of the show being the hazelnuts it was served with. It has a salty hit which was really needed with the rich dessert. It was excellent. ||The reason it is not 5 stars is purely a few bits we had an issue with. Being January it was pretty quiet and I don't think the staff in the kitchen realised how loud they were being. We could hear some of them swearing which we wouldn't normally care about but when the you are trying to have a nice lunch and the fact it was quiet it was pretty hard to ignore. That said, everyone swears sometimes so not that big of a deal and we would return!

Yelp
When I was at a training course down in Plymouth, I took the opportunity to check out the local fine dining options. The Horn of Plenty is a country house hotel with an ambitious kitchen obviously aiming for higher things. It's located an adventurous 30 minute drive north of Plymouth and the last part down a single car width country lane did induce a few palpitations However, once you turn into the drive, the lit fountain instantly reassures you that you've arrived in a classy establishment. I was impressed that the staff knew who I was instantly when I walked in The pay-off for the adventurous drive is that you're located in the middle of gorgeous countryside and my only regret was that it was too dark to see the wonderful vista across the valley to Dartmoor which would normally have been visible from window next to the lovely table they gave me It is a classy dining room. Tables are well spaced out to give feeling of space. It is nice and brightly lit Mondays at the Horn of Plenty is the traditional Pot Luck Monday. The quality is just as high but there is only a choice of 3 dishes in each section but the price is also significantly reduced from their usual price charged in the rest of the week My requested freshly squeezed orange juice was quickly sorted It was nice to have canapés to start off the meal, reflecting the ambition of the kitchen. There was innovation with these. An unusual egg ravioli needed a touch more seasoning but was a novel idea. 'Fish & chip' was a lovely single crispy mouthful. Curried parsnip purée came in an edible cone There was nice rosemary & cranberry warm bread and a brown granary roll with perfect crust. More restaurants should serve warm bread. An amuse of celeriac & truffle soup kicked off the meal. There was a great hit of truffle from the truffle oil and my palate was truly awakened for the meal ahead My starter was slow braised pork belly with prune salsa & sweet potato. Beautifully plated, the pork had been expertly rendered to keep the rich moistness but cooking the fat sufficiently to remove the fatty aftertaste that can sometimes come with eating belly The main was sage & bacon stuffed chicken with cep purée, gratin potato and truffle jus. Everything smelled divine. The humble chicken was elevated with the other ingredients and it remained moist I chose the mandarin delice with orange parfait for dessert. The only mistake of the evening came with this course. The parfait was served too cold so the orange flavour was muted Overall, this kitchen has some serious ambitions and they're well on the way. I love the look of their tasting menu and it was a shame that they don't serve it on a Monday. I wish them luck on their quest for higher recognition!

Yelp
On my recent trip to the southwest part of England I unfortunately ate plenty of bad food. Now while the English may be known for many good things like the Beatles, attempted world domination, fish n chips, and Benny Hill, they surely are not a culinary destination. So it was indeed a pleasant surprise when I had the chance to dine at Horn of Plenty on the night before my departure back to the States. The entrance to this cozy restaurant, which is also a hotel, is simply elegant and provides you with that quintessential English backdrop. From the moment you walk through the front door, you feel as if you are coming over to visit a friend for dinner. Horn of Plenty looks like it was homed a family, so that may be the reason you get that feeling. Once passed the hallway you enter the restaurant. The decor is simple yet breathtaking and was very welcoming. Upon sitting down the wine never stopped flowing, the food was downright delicious, and although it felt like there was no room for dessert or coffee, I made room dammit! I will not go into great detail of what I ate because to be quite honest to menu included things I never heard of before and I probably would not do it justice. But I did enjoy some quality salmon with risotto, moist and tasty chicken with a side of asparagus and mashed potatoes, a mango sorbet with various other sweet goodies, and a tasty coffee. This restaurant is located about 20 minutes from the tourist friendly Tintagel Castle.
