The Hostel

I was super lucky to find a reservation for £12. For this price the deal is amazing! When I entered the hostel, I immediately understood that it’s one of the hostels where people really like to socialize! The atmosphere there was super friendly, staff was extremely kind and helpful. Location is almost central. And it was really warm at night comparing to other hostels I’ve been to in Edinburgh. If I were to choose again, I’d again stay in this hostel. Shower rooms, kitchen, common areas were very clean, the hostel also offers free tea and coffee, earplugs, books, guitars, board games. And it’s located 3mins away from the bus and train station to the airport. What you need to know about: there are three-bulk beds, and you can choose any level you like. There are only local sockets, but you can rent a European adapter at the reception.

The price seemed good, but we experienced 50£ of hidden fees. Good location, was very walkable to Old Town etc. The staff was all very friendly EXCEPT the pink haired Texan, who frankly I dreaded every interaction with. She should look into not working a customer facing job. Unnecessarily rude and unpleasant. Would I stay here again? Probably not, but it works in a pinch if you're just looking for a cheap place to sleep for the night.

Limited Inclusivity: The overall structure of the hostel does not cater to guests with physical limitations, which is a significant drawback in terms of inclusivity. Parking 🅿 Parking Service Rating: 1/5 The hostel does not offer any parking service, which can be highly inconvenient for guests traveling by car. This lack of availability might discourage potential visitors who rely on parking facilities. Ambience Chill-Out Room Ambiance Rating: 3/5 The chill-out room offers a pleasant ambiance, especially suitable for solo travelers or couples when the number of guests matches the hostel’s capacity. Under these conditions, the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. However, when the hostel becomes overcrowded—an issue due to its already small and limited space—the chill-out room quickly turns into a chaotic and uncomfortable area. Managing guest numbers or expanding the chill-out space would significantly improve the experience. Services: Service Rating: 2/5 Staff Attitude: The staff is generally efficient but lacks warmth and a welcoming attitude. The service feels robotic at times, and it’s clear that some staff members, possibly students, may not be fully equipped to handle hotel services without proper guidance and supervision. Cleanliness: The cleanliness is disappointing. The hostel has a limited number of bathrooms, which contributes to the overall lack of hygiene. Additionally, the condition of the beds, blankets, and sheets is far from satisfactory, reflecting poorly on the staff’s attention to cleanliness. The effort from hotel staff seems minimal in maintaining the space. Positive Aspects: On the positive side, the kitchen services are decent, with kitchen utensils provided for guests to prepare their own meals. Additionally, the hostel offers complimentary coffee and tea and a library for guests to enjoy. These small touches help make the stay more comfortable, though they do not fully make up for the issues with cleanliness and service. Food never try it, the cleanliness of the hostel does not courage to have such experiences Price $ Price Rating: 2/5 The price of the hostel does not align with the level of service and cleanliness provided. Guests may expect a higher standard given the cost, but unfortunately, the hostel falls short in several key areas. In comparison, other hostels in the area offer better services at more affordable rates. The disparity between the price and the quality of service makes it hard to justify the cost, especially considering the cleanliness and overall guest experience. ** There is a payment network. ** Overall Comment: As an expert traveler who has experienced more than 12 hostels around Edinburgh, my comments are based on standard hostel rates and the expectations that customers have for their stay. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this hostel unless there are quick improvements to address the issues I have pointed out. The hostel's price does not align with the service and cleanliness provided, and there are several areas in need of significant attention, such as accessibility, cleanliness, and overall space management. A few changes could greatly enhance the guest experience.

The rooms stenched of mold and wetness. The dust was unbearable as someone with dust allergy. The windows were unbelievably dirty and did not seal the sound a little bit so in the night you absolutely need ear protection. And the matresses were a absolute joke. The shared bathrooms were moldy and dusty. A few simple wipes would help so much and make everything look a little bit cleaner but it seems like that this is too hard. The shared kitchen is locked in the night, so if you depart early, you can not use the kitchen as your items are locked away.

Location is the best. For the price it's best. Only bad point is, if you have a luggage which is of importance but of regular use like laptop, they don't have a good size personal safe. You can keep it in the luggage room though. However my suggestion is, if you can take laptop with you whenever you go out, this place is best

The location is the only good thing about this hostel. The service was fine, people are nice and gave us all the information we needed. But the rooms... We got a 12 people room. 6 bunk beds, the room is so small you can barely turn around. No storage space or lockers, but each bunk bed got A CHAIR, and when somebody took ours, the recepcionist said there aren't any extra chairs, so we had to keep our stuff on the floor. We found extra chairs by ourselves the next day, 12 of them. On top of that, the room has a very small window which is only open 1h per day, meaning the room smells like shoes, feet, perfume and moist. The beds are squeaky and rocking like crazy. The sockets for charging, our room had it only by our beds, so I was woken up many times by people mettling around and even unolugging my phone to charge theirs. The bathrooms are a mess and don't have normal shower, but some kid of system where the water only goes when the button is pressed down, and the temperature chsnges by itself. It went from boiling hot to freezing by itself at least 3 times during my 5 minute showers. If you really have to stay only one night and on a budget, you can go there. We stayed for 4 nights and both came back home exhausted and sick. Edinburgh is a beautiful city and staying in a place like this will ruin your experience. It is better to pay a bit more and actually sleep like a human being than to be put in a small smelly room. Complete disaster and I don't want anybody to have this experience.

My experience at this accommodation was absolutely positive. From the moment I arrived, I felt safe and comfortable. My bed was perfectly situated near power sockets, making it easy to charge my devices, and I was impressed by the cleanliness—everything was truly spotless. The atmosphere was warm and cosy, and the service was nothing short of phenomenal. The people in my room were friendly and respectful, adding to the overall great experience, and the property itself is spacious and located in a prime area, making it easy to explore the surroundings. This place exceeded all my expectations. The temperature was just right, and the showers and bathrooms were in excellent condition—modern, well-maintained, and sparkling clean. It’s clear that the staff take great pride in ensuring a top-notch experience for their guests. I highly recommend this accommodation to anyone looking for a comfortable and welcoming stay. You won't be disappointed! The only downside was stained squicky beds.

I stayed here back in August for two nights. I was locked out of the facilty the second night and wasnt able to get inside the building. Thankfuly a friend had an airbnb up the road where I stayed the night, however the next day when I went to describe that I wasn't able to get into the accommodation I was met with hostality and was refused a refund for the second night. Even though I wasn't able to get inside the building or room. On top of this there were other situations that made me feel very uncomfortable. This was a very unfortunate exeperince and it was my first time ever staying in a hostel. I recommend if your looking for a hostel to stay in Edinburgh please do not pick this one. Would never recommend.

DO NOT BOOK this place. They canceled with no reason given, 2 weeks before our stay. This was our honeymoon trip; we booked months in advance. Then we get an email that says our booking was canceled due to an "issue with bedding", and to top it off, the stay was during a national holiday, so there were no other affordable options in the area. We stayed in Glasgow instead because of this. I cannot express how angry I am that they can do this to people. I wish nothing but bad luck to this joke of an establishment. Again, DO NOT BOOK HERE. I personally think their "internal issue with beds" was just raising the price and rebooking, which should be illegal.

Nice and clean place. They offer a continental breakfast (cereal and toast) for £2. Instant coffee and tea are free. The only reason I give it 3 stars is because the common areas (communal room and kitchen) are closed from 11pm-8am. I thought that was the point of having an extra kitchen. We had tours early in the morning so we were never able to make our own breakfast or coffee. After coming home after a night at the pub, the hallway was crowded bc there was nowhere else to sit and we couldn't have a late night munchie snack because there was nowhere to make one. At £40 a night, that's reasonable during fringe festival, but it is still below my expectations.

Upon first entering this hostel my initial reaction was along the lines of great location and oh my goodness the staff is friendly! By the end of the day I was thinking to myself "eh, three out of five stars ain't half bad." By the end of the third day I simply was exasperated by this hostel. What are the key elements you look for in a hostel? Usually they are cleanliness, friendliness, amenities, kitchen, and Wi-Fi. Yes? I shall be rating them on such. First of all, they do keep this hostel very tidy. I must commend them on that fact as many hostels do fail in that regards. However, it appears to be at a dire cost to the rest of the hostel. Their staff was very friendly and incredibly helpful. The first woman we met was probably the best part about this hostel! The rest of the staff was friendly enough but she truly blew them out of the water. The amenities were not the best. They had a sign that offered laundry services but we were told that they did not have them. All of the outlets for our room were located in one spot all right next to a single bunk. There were 16 beds cramped into a room that should only have accommodated between 8-12 comfortably. The showers were either freezing cold or Satan's hellfire. The common rooms were small and crowded. The kitchen was so small that it basically did not exist. We started just picking up snacks at the local grocer because there simply wasn't room to cook. This sadly drained our pockets pretty quickly. I did, however, appreciate there being a separate coffee and tea station on the opposite end of the stove. This helped a bit with the cramped nature of the kitchen but only by a small amount. For a hostel with three separate Wi-Fi access points the Wi-Fi was absolutely terrible. I couldn't connect in my bedroom and in the common rooms it was spotty and almost unusable due to such heavy traffic. Now, there are some positives. As I said before, the place is tidy and in an excellent location. If you are just stopping in for a night or simply don't care about any of my complainants feel free to give it a shot! Oh! We also misplaced our stuff a few times and nobody stole it. That was nice of them.

BED BUGS! Onsite staff didn't seem too bothered about them though. They refunded my reservation, then sent me out into the night suggesting a sister property that was more expensive with worse location (for me). They were uninterested in offering any further help, such as the manager's contact details, comping transport or a new lodging. I honestly felt as if they were laughing at me.

Great people, rooms are nice with full amenities. Good recommendations from the front desk.
