We really enjoyed our 5 night stay at the Hotel Elysee. Our last couple of visits to Manhattan we stayed at the Royalton, which has a very hip, modern vibe. It was nice, but we wanted something a little homier this time, and Hotel Elysee was just right. It's charming, feels like there's a history to it. No, the furniture wasn't brand new, but the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom spotless, the service good. Very good location for visiting museums, the park, and 5th ave, without being too noisy or bustling. We will stay there again and recommend to others.

Google
Our #1 favorite hotel in Manhattan! The hotel has an old world charm and the feel of a European hotel. The location in midtown is excellent. The valet parking is distinctive among Manhattan hotels. It is also one of the hotels with a high quality restaurant right next door - the Monkey Bar! On the second floor of the hotel is the Library where there is a simple self-serve breakfast accompanied by morning papers and lovely chairs. The staff are without exception friendly and attentive. We would not book anywhere else!

Google
Great hotel with a terrific location - quiet area but near everything. The second floor club room is an exceptional refuge from Manhattan hustle-bustle -an ideal place to relax or entertain friends in the city. The rooms were exceptionally clean and quite large. One of the best features of the place is their very accommodating and helpful staff. The decor is quite old-school and elegant - I love it -but my understanding is that the hotel will soon be remodeled. I hope that when it reopens the place does not lose any of its charm and the staff remain friendly

Google
The best place to stay in NYC. It's not modern and sleek, and but it's convenient, comfortable, and clean. The location is amazing--nearby subway station is only 4 direct stops from Penn Station (perfect for taking the train to Boston after...), it's near Central Park...lots of shopping...and out of the crazy hubbub of Times Square, yet close enough to walk to the Broadway theaters if you don't mind a 15 - 20 min walk. The staff was very kind, and the snack room was amazing. The rooms are quite large for NYC standards. We called housekeeping to see if they had any other pillow options and they brought us some great choices, so we slept well every night of our stay. (I would highly recommend earplugs, though. The HVAC system is noisy, as is the street noise.) There was just a cozy, warm, homey feeling here that I loved.

We’ve stayed here quite a number of times. Love it. Rooms are big, clean, beds very comfortable. Old fashioned charm with excellent service. The complimentary club floor has a nice array of snacks, drinks and plenty of charm. Great location. Walk to theater, museums, Central Park. We received a complimentary upgrade to a suite this time. Can I win the lottery and live here?

Google
Pretty good hotel. One elevator. Breakfast is pastries(which were good) and some snack type things like nutrigrain bars, and fruit. but they have the snacks and drinks out all the time for people to have so that was a surprise. Bed was good, pillow kinda flat but I'm a stomach sleeper so that's a good thing in my case. The decor of the entire place is Def still stuck in the 90s or earlier. It's close to most trains too so it was easy to get to south Manhattan and Queens from here. There's no ice machine, they had to bring it to my room which I'm not used to. The service overall was very good. Room was pretty quiet, I couldn't hear neighbors. Older building probably helps that. Newer hotels are like paper thin sometimes.

Google
The hotel is wonderfully located and the Monkey Bar in the lobby is pretty terrific. Staff is courteous and the rooms are spotless. It has seen better days and in need of some refreshing with the furniture in the rooms. But it's a great "bargain" for the area and we will be back again for sure. The style of the hotel has kept its charm.

Google
The only way I can honestly start this review is by saying, we will never stay anywhere else in Midtown. Our room was not only comfortable but much larger than expected. The second floor sitting room was cozy and quaint with breakfast, and snacks and drinks. I could easily sit for hours with coffee and a book and be happy. What made our experience absolutely perfect was the staff and the service. Everyone was kind and eager to help. They made our anniversary stay nothing short of wonderful. Looking forward to staying again, hopefully soon.

Yelp
This is an old school New York hotel with an excellent location, outstanding service, classic vibe with rooms, that, while a little dated compared to hotels that aren't almost 100 years old, still deliver a comfortable stay and a good value for the area. From the doorman to the front desk to the elevators with tapestry cushioned walls to the narrow halls, there's a distinctly old school give in this classic. The rooms are small but decently appointed in an old fashioned way. Giant closet, tiny TV. Not many plugs, about a clock radio (does anyone under 70 need a radio taking up a plug in a hotel room in 2024? Small bathroom, big tub and shower with good pressure and lots of hot water. The AC kept the room chilly on a super hot and humid day, but the covers were super warm to stay under if that's what you needed. The refrigerator didn't work, but you could get an ice bucket. If you called down, they'll bring it up to you and change it out with the one you have in the room. Again, first class service. You pay a $25 per person "club fee" to be able to access a nice library room on the second floor with lots of tables, and snacks and drinks at your disposal that you can just take away (whatever you want). There is a continental breakfast in the morning as well, with different types of coffee, juices fruit, Clif bars, Boston cream, pastry, muffins, etc. no waffles or other buffet type items that you might see in different hotels, but you certainly have the opportunity to fill up. Overall, the hotel is an experience unto itself. Unique. Fun. Old school. Classy. Excellent service and traditional amenities in an awesome location for a good price. I would stay again here anytime.

Yelp
This place is very charming - old-school in a good way, and all the staff were very helpful and very friendly. This will be my go-to hotel in the city from now on.

Yelp
5 of us stayed for several days at this very well located and well priced small hotel. Staff was lovely, bellman always able to flag a cab, daily housekeeping very good. Second floor club room (which I believe all guests had access to, probably explaining the $25 per day "resort fee") has at least 4 large groupings of comfortable couches and chairs, lots of small table seating, plus an adjacent library room. Club now offers continental breakfast (coffee, tea, hard boiled eggs, mini pastries, yogurts, granola bars, bananas, oranges and newspapers) and all day snacks (packaged Cliff and granola bars, waters, seltzer, soda, chips). Our five King rooms, for which we all paid the same price, varied widely in size. One room had a full kitchen with microwave, another had much nicer bedding and a crystal chandelier. Mine was a smaller standard room with small bathroom, room overall was fine for 1 but would have been tight for 2. Noisy from outside at night (seemed like mechanical humming). Disliked the very soft pillows (in fairness, never asked for another option) but loved the really cold air conditioning in the midst of a major heat wave! Tip: Monkey Bar restaurant attached to hotel is excellent! Hotel manager made a reservation for us several weeks ahead when we couldn't get one otherwise.

Yelp
Excellent boutique hotel situated in Midtown East. What sets this place apart is the service. The doormen, bellhops, house staff, and the front desk are excellent- welcoming, courteous, accommodating, and professional. It's a throwback to another era, with a tapestry covered, chandeliered elevator and a small but welcoming lobby with an umbrella stand and doorman. The junior suite was very spacious, perfect for three of us. Robes, slippers, and high-end toiletries elevate the stay. The reading room was a great space for 24/7 snacks and beverages, plus a light breakfast buffet. I appreciated being able to take a cappuccino and the New York Times back to my room. Valet parking was also a great service for $40/24hrs. These amenities are what set the Hotel Elysée from similarly priced rooms at other midtown & Manhattan hotels. Special recognition to Nick, who helped me with a late-hour reservation change with understanding and efficiency.

Yelp
Found this lovely little hotel as a referral from a friend. Location, service, staff are all beyond 5 star worthy!!! Quiet, cozy, friendly. A nice respite from the bustle of the city. The hotel does need a little freshening up, but it is well worth the price for everything I mentioned above. Looking forward to my next visit in a couple of months!

Yelp
Old school classic hotel . Tapestry in the elevator , rugs, comfort , modern provisions but takes you back in time . I have to say absolutely the kindest hotel staff with no shortage of help . A big recognition to the distinguished front desk, doormen & bellhops who always were courteous and pleasant to talk with while helping us in or with our bags . The housekeeping lady was so sweet & helpful with our extra needs ! Best breakfast provided with stay & water bottles too ! Our room was a king suite and was perfect for 3 of us . There was a surprise enclosed "outer air" room off the king bedroom with a couch and sitting chairs !! Even had an extra fridge ! The bathroom is just the right size but any smaller in sq footage would've been not good for large amount of people but def doable . Beautiful gold accented bathroom , very nice & new fixtures . Our bed was a little too firm but not a deal breaker . Will come back for sure .

Yelp
I cannot say enough good things about this hotel! The room was spacious, location was great and staff was over the top amazing! Gary, the doorman, couldn't have been nicer and helpful. Juan made sure that my 2 year old had the best time and was incredibly sweet! He was so kind and considerate. Would stay here over and over again!

Yelp
Sadly, the Elysee has passed its prime. It appears that, among other things, the management does not revere long-standing repeat business. We have reserved two rooms for three nights during the holidays for the past half dozen years but found ourselves unappreciated last year and this year. Repeat patrons are no longer enjoying the 'friends and family' discount. We naturally expected the favored discount to apply but, upon discovering that we would be paying the same rate as anyone who, last minute, appeared at the door, when asked, we were instead given the sales pitch of '20% across the board' which, of course meant nothing. When pressed, I was finally given a 5% discount. Seriously? After all the years that we have spent our holidays there. During the last couple of years, the hotel has cut back on all the little amenities that made the place such a delight. No longer are there morning bagels; instead they have been replaced with Clif bars and with what appear to be pre packaged pastries. The three hour wine and cheese afternoon has likewise been 'modified' but the $25 daily room charge for these niceties is still in place. Last year it was noticed that the room was clean but that the curtains were not working properly and the overhead chandelier was missing a couple of lights and a few of the baubles. And finally, while the staff continued to be kind and hardworking, they were considerably fewer in number. Too late to change our reservations this year, but undoubtedly, and sadly, we will be saying goodbye to our little oasis and staying elsewhere next year.

Barbara R R.

Yelp
First the positive: The staff was super friendly and helpful. Everyone from the desk to the doorman. I loved the furnishings esp on the second floor. The bed was comfortable and we didn't need anything special. We were only there for one night. The negative: Our bill...............crazy charges....would you believe "A Resort Fee" $21.79....... A sales tax $46.....................a city tax $30.50.............then a NYC Hotel Unit fee .... and a resort fee sales tax and a resort fee city tax and of course the expected room charge $519..... I can just see them having a meeting and deciding how to increase the cost of a stay................it;s too bad because everything else was just fine.

Yelp
This hotel is very overrated. The website photos are quite misleading. I recently stayed there for 5 nights and was quite disappointed. I have stayed at the Library Hotel 3 or 4 times and at Casablanca once. I wanted to check out another of the Library Collection Hotels. Both of these hotels are far superior to Elysee. There was so much street noise I couldn't sleep well and the furniture in my room was old and dilapidated. The common areas were fine but not super. The elevator was great. The staff were also fine.

Marsha K.

Yelp
I have found the PERFECT Midtown Manhattan hotel--my King bedroom was like a private apartment! AND so quiet, didn't hear sirens or garbage trucks; I didn't believe I was in New York. The front desk staff could not have been lovelier or more helpful (got a fabulous restaurant suggestion from Daniel) What a great meal and just all around excellent choice--it's my new NYC favorite. I'm never ever staying anywhere else when I travel to NYC. LOVED IT!

Nancy A.

Yelp
I have been coming to Hotel Elysee for many years. It is a charming boutique hotel in midtown Manhattan. The rooms are lovely and spacious. On the second floor there is a nicely appointed room called the Library where breakfast and snacks are available as free amenities. Newspapers are free to read there or to take to your room. The staff at the front desk and at the Library are ready to help with anything you need. it is close to good restaurants and museums. in fact, the Monkey Bar is in the hotel and serves delicious lunches and dinners.

Yelp
In addition to the excellent location for sightseeing, their hospitality in the Club Room is unparalleled. Club Room They always have some kind of free food in the club room, starting from their complimentary breakfast in the morning, wine & hors d'oeuvres reception in the evening, and tea/coffee and cookies all day until they close the club room at midnight. + Breakfast: It's tastefully done but it's continental breakfast. If you'd like hot food, like scrambled eggs and bacon, you would have to cross the street to a deli (e.g., Reliable Food, see my review). + Wine Reception: The wine they serve is not great, but we can't complain because it's free. I thought the food was pretty good (cheese, bread, crackers, veggies, nuts, etc). + Tea and Coffee: Until they close the club room at midnight, they serve (Pepperidge Farm) cookies, tea, and coffee throughout the day. Location It's located at an excellent midtown location. Easily walkable to major sights: Rockefeller Plaza (less than 10 min), Central Park (less than 10 min), and Times Square (15 min or so). Since the hotel is located between Park Ave and Madison Ave, it's easy to find places to shop and eat, too. Hotel The lobby is small but cute and well kept. When I was here in late March, they had real cherry blossoms in the lobby. The guest rooms did not seem as updated as the lobby, but nice. Some may find these rooms to be cute, but others may find them dated. Staff Hotel staff were all professional, friendly, and helpful. "Verdict" I would definitely stay here again, and I highly recommend Hotel Elysée. ****************************** If you found something useful in my review, please hit "useful" so that I can improve my reviews. If you love food and traveling, follow me, or better yet, let's become friends on Yelp! Thank you and happy Yelping!

Yelp
I was just made aware that we were charged an extra 200 dollars for extra cleaning needed due to our miniature service dog. She is groomed regularly and does not smell. Many adults and children petted her there and loved her .None stated she smelled. l am totally appalled by insinuations in an effort to change us 200 dollars extra for cleaning. We left the room in a neat and orderly manner. The American Disability Act forbids extra charges for the presence of a service dog when traveling with its owner. The Elysee Hotel made an inaccurate and sleazy claim to abuse its power by overcharging its customers. Its actions violate the law and will end in litigation. Jeffrey J. Davis, M.D.

Yelp
Headline: A lovely boutique. Classic with impeccable service. With a prime location in mid-town Manhattan, this lovely boutique has 14 floors of unique rooms generally full of European tourists. Though many to most guests are tourists, I've generally stayed there for business and there are usually a decent number of business travelers as well. The rooms are funky- odd shapes various sizes. It's OLD. A few tips: Stay on a higher floor or alley side in order to get quiet- this IS midtown. Rooms are stocked with basic toiletries but if you've forgotten something it will appear in 5-15 minutes, depending on how busy things are. No in-house gym, but they offer passes. Or Central Park is a few blocks away if you fancy a jog. The second floor club room is one of my favorite parts of this hotel. Free continentalish breakfast in the morning and free wine and cheese in the evening. Comfy chairs, newspapers to share, and that rounds out everything I need. So if you are seeking quiet sophistication and superior service look no further.

Yelp
Absolutely the nicest boutique hotel! Rooms are very nice but the staff and cocktail hour are fabulous!

Yelp
We just completed a week long stay at the Hotel Elysee in NYC and I can't say enough good things about our experience. After having a HORRIBLE experience with another hotel (The Manhattan at Times Square - a complete slumlord situation there, STAY AWAY), we had the exact opposite experience at Hotel Elysee. AJ at the front desk was a dream come true - responsive, positive, professional and solution oriented. We needed 2 rooms for a weeklong stay on short notice and he came through in spades. Our rooms were right near each other on the same floor (we were traveling with our teenage sons, so wanted to be close but not too close lol) and were clean, comfortable, very spacious - they exceeded my expectations. It honestly was some of the best sleep I've had in years. The second floor lounge was such a bonus - constant coffee, snacks and waters (which we used daily, plus eliminated the need to have to run to Starbucks each morning, saving money). One night we had pizzas delivered and just ate them in the dining room next to the lounge, which was available - it was lovely to be able to have a relatively inexpensive dinner in a home like setting. The whole hotel felt like a home, actually - just nice 'real' furnishings, books on the shelves, food in the fridge, and an incredibly welcoming staff. The front desk had great suggestions for restaurants and good deals for car service to the airport when needed (Melissa the car driver was exceptional as well, I highly recommend her for a stress free and reasonably priced ride back to the airport). The doormen were always friendly and 'on it'! The housekeeping staff were wonderful - again, we were traveling with teenage boys who are MESSY and the housekeeping staff were so accommodating and good natured. The location in mid town is PERFECT, close to literally everything plus had the bonus of being right across from a great pub/place to get a burger and a beer (Bill's), a great wine/liquor store with a staff that gave great pizza recommendations, AND my best Italian food I've had in a long time - Cellinis. The only place we didn't try was the Monkey Bar because it was hard to get last minute reservations. Finally, the price was very fair. We had the absolute BEST time and made incredible memories at Hotel Elysee. We absolutely will return the next time we go to NYC. Thank you, Hotel Elysee!

Yelp
I am an effeminate man who was discriminated against at the Elysee Hotel on 54th btwn Madison and Park Labor day weekend 2019, It was 81° at 8:15pm on a hot summer night. My two friends were visiting NYC, after a lovely time in Central Park with their two daughters (2 and 3y/o!) and my husband of 7 years, We all walked back to Hotel Elysee. My friends were very excited about staying at the Hotel Elysee because they advertise their library lounge and bar! Also, acording to the Hotel Elysee Wiki page: Tennessee Williams lived in the hotel for fifteen years and died in the "Sunset" suite in 1983. Sounds like a great place to catch up with their NYC friends in the Arts community while their children safely slept a few floors up! They both recently relocated from NYC to Atlanta to raise their two daughters. The Library lounge is quaint with books, tea, cookies, water and offers a free wine and cheese happy hour. The bathrooms were tacky with black porcelain urinals and painted walls from an elementary school play. There were also two young girls (probably 5 and 7) chilling with their mother, eating cookies, and a small group of 50/60 year olds drinking wine and enjoying each others company. Nowhere on the Hotel Elysee's website or posted do they enforce a dress code. Our friends put the kids to bed in their room, then we went to the second floor lounge with the baby monitor to catch up and enjoy some tea. About 45 mins, I get up to refresh our tea, (Henry Kallan) An overweight man with messy hair points at me and says: Henry Kallan: You need to change Anthony: Excuse me? (Henry Kallan references his mint green polo barely covering his belly and 1998 stonewashed lee dad-fit jeans) Anthony is wearing a rock and roll band's merchandise tank top with thick black straps, his nails are red and dotted like lady bugs, his hair is in a top bun (possibly embellished with a faux hair scrunchie) 80's vintage print blue shorts with black/white polka-dot Nike high tops. (Anthony points to a beautiful young lady with spaghetti strap tank and asks) Anthony: Does she need to change too? Henry Kallan: Oh, come on. (Anthony's husband then asks) Husband: Who are you? Anthony. Yea, who are you? Henry Kallan. I am the owner Anthony: Sir, you need to state that because you were a stranger pointing at me saying "you need to change" Henry Kallan. Are you guests of this hotel? My friend: I am, they're my friends Henry Kallan: I don't want them here, they need to leave. Anthony. That's ok, because we don't want to be here anyway (We gather our belongings and walk down one flight of stairs to exit, passing Henry Kallan) Anthony: I'm going to write about this online, that was not cool. Henry Kallan: Oh, f*ck off! My friends met us down on the corner of 54 and Park. They apologized and I said I'd wait to post online once they check out. If a hotel employee (maybe in a suit?) tapped me on the shoulder and said "I'm sorry, but our library lounge has a strict dress code after 8pm, and all guests are required formal attire" then I would have probably remembered that I had a cute jacket shawl in my backpack. The interaction was aggressive, awkward and inappropriate. It wasn't until I got home and googled that I found out Henry Kallan was one of the hotel's co-owners. For a hotel to advertise GAY PRIDE deals and discounts, does Henry Kallan walk through the crowd of guests and enforce a strict gender dress code during pride weekend? I am a working musical artist in NYC, I am a flamboyant man, but I am definitely one of the less eccentric friends that planned on visiting my friends and their kids at the Hotel Elysee. Just a heads up!! Even though some businesses advertise to be LGBTQIA friendly, they probably don't accept you, just your money.

Yelp
Had a lovely stay and was treated well be all staff within the hotel. Excellent location with easy access to Times Square, Grand Central Park, and transportation. Would recommend to others

Yelp
I can not say enough good things about this hotel! When I go away, I make it a point to stay in a boutique hotel for the very reasons I'll mention in a moment. The area is wonderful - walking distance to shops, restaurants and attractions such as some television studios and also Radio City Music Hall. It's nice that you can walk to Times Square, yet you are away from the hustle and bustle of that area. The staff was so knowledgeable and was GREAT with directions, which was a comfort because I'm not. I also traveled alone and did a quick check in with the front desk to let them know that I was leaving to go to dinner... just in case. They also have a wonderful breakfast with muffins, bagels, coffee, tea, fresh fruit, juices, yogurt, oatmeal and more. It is definitely enough to fill you up before you head out for your day! Coffee and snacks are also available throughout the day. The best part is that they have a wine and cheese time from 5 to 8 PM every day, which makes for a nice respite in between touring and going out for dinner. Even though it has a teeny bit over 100 rooms, I really felt that my stay was very personalized, and the room was amazing! It had a gorgeous view, was comfortable and spacious, and had everything that I could possibly want or need. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay there again in the future.

Yelp
I absolutely love this hotel. It's perfectly located in midtown Manhattan and is very convenient if you're going to see any shows on broadway. The rooms are nice and have black out curtains which I loved. The only complaint with the rooms is that the bathrooms are a bit small but then again it is NYC. Complementary breakfast every morning until 10 or 10:30 (11 on the weekends). This includes juice, fresh fruit, a variety of pastries, bagels and breads, yogurt and hard boiled eggs. They also have coffee and tea. Breakfast is served in the salon on the second floor which is a cozy room with plenty of seating. During the day there is a selection of teas, cookies and coffee available for you to enjoy. In the evenings from 5-8 there is a wine and cheese selection. Overall I was very pleased with the service offered by Hotel Elysee and would highly recommend staying heree

Yelp
The hotel has a widely recognized racist symbol prominently displayed at its reception desk. It is a figure dresses like a man but with the face and tale of an ape, standing in the position of a servant, in this case holding the business cards of the hotel (see photo). I brought the offensive nature of this object to the attention of a woman at the front desk; unfortunately her response was that the object has been there a long time and no one has ever complained. I suggest that the following would be a more appropriate response: I'm sorry to hear this - we were not aware of this symbolism. I will definitely look into it. I'm certain our management would not want to display offensive symbols.

Yelp
This is the second time I've stayed here. Loved it the first time! Excellent happy hour with cheese, crackers and wine. Excellent service and a great location. Upon check in this time I realized I left my phone in the cab that just dropped me off. The bell boy and check in staff were so helpful. They helped me reach the cab driver and I had my phone back in less than 20 minutes. (and they made me feel much less an idiot for doing it in the first place). Better than excellent service!! Empathetic gentlemen all! Thank you so much!!

Yelp
I just returned from another great stay at the Hotel Elysee. The staff as always was extremely helpful and responsive. The decor is classic, clean, and comfortable with more amenities than you would expect from a boutique hotel. Emerging from COVID is a difficult time for hospitality and service industries, but the Hotel Elysee seems to be rising to the challenge without issue. Looking forward to my next stay!

Yelp
Lovely staff, great location and full and great continental breakfast (included) were a plus. Spacious bed and bathrooms for NYC standards. Nice location mid way between gray sights like St Patrick's, MOMA, Rock Cen...monkey bar, Bills across the street were fun food jaunts. But rating this a 3 as sadly decor is dated and worn compared to website photos, carpets, lighting paint etc--elevators slow. Don't stay in rooms ending in "0" or "5" as the are literally adjacent to the elevator. Pillows and bed were clean and crisp but pillows already long list their fluff. For the price paid we were happy but what a place this could be with a bit of tlc!

Yelp
Lovely boutique hotel with professional, kind staff who truly makes you feel welcome. Every time I stay and every different room has been lovely. I appreciate coming back to this hotel after a long day of work and appointments in the city because you experience calm, quiet and a sense of home. Thank you to the staff for another wonderful visit.

Yelp
This was a find of mine several years ago. It is my favourite go to Hotel in the city. Very old and charming boutique hotel. Treated like a guest very well trained staff . There is a happy hour in the evening and breakfast each morning-both should be part of your planned visit. It is lovely. The rooms are so romantic. Marble baths, chandelier above the bed. The hotel became news worthy when noted as go to hotel for lovers in the show Mad Men ... Keep things original and we keep coming back! Hail to great service professionals!

Yelp
What a gem! We booked this based on recs from the Frommers guide & Tripadvisor and did the prepay special. Got the junior suite, which I highly recommend for the extra seating area. Windows actually open. We faced 54th but the noise didn't bother us. It was our anniversary & we were surprised upon arrival with Prosecco & chocolates in our room. So many nice freebies here - chocolate bar & 2 bottles of water upon arrival, free wifi, large breakfast spread (with great, efficient servers), cookies/drinks throughout the day, wine/cheese M-F nights. Location was convenient to everything. Staff was wonderful & quick to bring requests like ice or a pair of scissors. Only one elevator, but it wasn't an issue unless it was peak breakfast time. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Expensive and average hotel. I do like the charming boutique-ness and convenience to Central Park, Rockefeller Center, Park Ave and other "tourist attractions". I didn't like the crampness of the rooms and the bed could use a little more plush. The rooms, for the most part, are average. It is part of the Hotel Giraffe name (which we loved) but we felt it could use some upgrades (especially the elevators and lighting). The staff was what you would expect from an expensive hotel but I like it when they have a personality! There are numerous other hotels (i.e. Kimpton Hotels rock) that are less expensive and more modern yet old school.

Yelp
Although the staff was extremely friendly, that is, unfortunately, the only redeeming quality of this hotel. The elevator was broken for much of our stay which required us to either take the service elevator (which is clearly not meant to be seen by guests) or take the stairs. Our room was very dark during daylight hours. Our bathtub clogged twice. I understand that the hotel is located in an old building, but for the nightly rate, we expected much more than what we got.

Yelp
A quaint and sweet hotel right smack in the middle of EVERYTHING going on. Will definitely stay here again. They are very accommodating and kind.

Yelp
Absolutely a fantastic stay. Entire staff goes out of their way to attend to guests and make your time there feel like you are at home. This is my family's third time here while visiting NYC and will certainly be back to book on our next trip. The second floor room has complimentary breakfast, coffee, tea and snacks every morning, followed by wine and champagne for happy hour each night. Kudos to the entire team at Hotel Elysee!

Yelp
It looks like other guests had much luckier experience in this hotel than me. I got bug bites overnight and was responded by extremely unprofessional and rude staff at the reception. Will never stay with this chain hotels again.

Yelp
This beautiful hotel, located between Park Avenue and Madison Avenue on East 54 street in New York City is not just a hotel, but truly a piece of the Big Apple's history. The hotel has hosted numerous movie stars, artists, writers and intellectuals in its 80+ year existence. Upon arrival to the Elysee, I was greeted at the front desk by the hotel's friendly and informative staff. They were quick to cover everything that was included in my stay. From where the computer, printer and other business necessities were located to when the free wine was going to be served in the club room. I was given a great room on the top floor and absolutely loved the decor. It felt like being away at some early 20th century country bed and breakfast. Some of the features in the room that stood out included the beautiful flat screen television mounted on the wall, the comfortable king size bed, i-home mp3 dock/alarm clock radio, and the chandelier on the ceiling! When you stay at this luxurious 103 room boutique hotel expect a lot of freebies with the rate. When I first got into my room, I needed to check my e-mails. No problem, because Hotel Elysee is equipped with wireless high-speed internet throughout the entire building. Such a great feature that should be in all hotels already, but sadly is not. Don't worry if you forgot your laptop. Just simply head down to the second floor and you can access the internet on the hotel's computer. Plus it is installed with a printer in case you need to do some work while on the road. Speaking of the club room. This is truly as tranquil as you are going to get while staying in the city. It was a rainy Friday afternoon and I was waiting on my wife to arrive from a meeting downtown. So I simply poured a cup of their delicious complimentary coffee (4 different flavors available), snatched some cookies, and relaxed on one of the big comfy couches that offer a view of East 54 street. Very cool spot to hang out with friends, family or alone when you want to get out of the hotel room for a little while. The lounge area also offers a European style breakfast daily each morning that includes NYC style bagels, fresh fruit, soft muffins, hot & cold cereals, boiled eggs, various juices and much more! Seriously you can have one heck of a meal to start your day before heading out to explore this great city. After you return from maxing out your credit card at the local shops, be sure to head back to the lounge from 5-8pm for complimentary wines, hors d'oeuvres, and numerous imported and domestic cheeses. I can tell you from experience that nothing beats unlimited wine for three straight hours. I was feeling pretty happy come 8pm and was in my room fast asleep in the room's comfy bed before 10pm. Your rate also includes a free pass to a nearby New York Sports Club throughout your stay. Some features of NYSC include aerobic, sauna, and cycling. So in between all the free breakfast, wine and cheese that you will be inhaling, at least you can burn off some of the calories for free.

Yelp
Charming boutique hotel: comfortable rooms, friendly staff, air conditioning, free wifi and breakfast & manager's reception. Central location: easy to get around. Our fifth stay, but not the last!

Yelp
As a weekend getaway (even from just across the river where my boyfriend lives in Hoboken), we went in for the weekend. This is by far one of the best places in the city when it comes to lodging. There's something to be said for the older buildings. We had a large King suite with a large room when you first walk in .. could be a living room in a NYC apt.! Spacious bathroom, and the bedroom part had lots of space! VERY CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN. The staff were all amazing. Free breakfast and wine and cheese in the afternoon . Bed was firm and perfect. Fun neighborhood spots for nightlife. The only negative..... we had to leave this place. Would definitely return!! Old world charm.

Yelp
Cute and charming. Slightly Euro. The staff is generally nice enough, but the front desk needs a little work. Having worked front desk, I understand the issues behind the position, but please. Location is excellent. Couple blocks up to 5th and MECCA: Saks. They provide you with continental breakfast, afternoon tea, and early evening wine and cheese. You could stay here and eat all day, no lie. Rooms are cute, good sized, with excellent beds. Will definitely go back.

Yelp
Great location, great staff, great room. Clean, casual, easy, nice breakfast (included)...they even let me check out at 2:00. Check out the adjoining Monkey Bar for drinks but not for food.

Yelp
Great service and an amazing stay! Upgraded my husband and I to a suite. Complimentary breakfast and cheese and wine hour. Stayed on 14th floor where it was nice and quiet. Will stay here again next year when we come for our yearly visit!

Yelp
Loved the room, the extremely helpful staff, the wonderful breakfast and the complimentary wine & cheese provided (along with crackers, veggies and cookies) every evening in a very comfortable parlor/library/sitting room. Was everything we expected and more. Couldn't have been happier with the experience.

Yelp
Very European, boutique-type hotel in a terrific location. From the guys holding the doors open and taking you to your room to the front desk to everyone at breakfast -- the staff is lovely. EVERYONE wanted you to feel at home, cozy, comfy and respected. The Continental breakfast was perfect. We were sad we never made it back in time for cocktail hour. As my travel pal said - so different than being in a huge, "soul-crushing" Times Square Hotel -- but close enough to everything. Little treasure in the city. Would not hesitate to stay here again. Not super modern, but quiet and nice. I recommend for mature audiences - not kids looking for a wild time. Thanks to everyone for making our 3-night stay charming and nice.

Yelp
Nice European hotel charm not far from broadway and close to Rockefeller center. Nice free breakfast and a great 3 hour free cocktail hour. I'll be back.

Yelp
What a great place! It's upscale and we're upstate country folks and never felt out of place in our flannels and boots. The staff is above and beyond the best. Always friendly and went way out of the way in cold weather to get a taxi for us in cold, wet weather. The room was very comfortable and quiet with a great shower and good toiletries. The open-all-day club room is a fantastic place to relax and read (4 free newspapers) or work on your computer. The continental breakfast was fine - hard boiled eggs, yogurt, fruit, bagels, pastries, juices and good coffee. The wine and cheese reception was more than we expected. Several cheeses, including bleu and brie, olives, breads and fruit. The wine choices were limited to three (cabernet, chardonnay and Proseco, I think), but good basics. We got a great off-season value for this room and hope we'll be able to afford to come back! I stayed in a lot of places in NYC in the past two years for cancer treatment trips and this is my favorite - by far. Attached Monkey Bar does room service, but is very expensive. My daughter and I decided to split an order of pasta carbonara -- it was very small and it's a good thing we weren't very hungry. Not including restaurant in hotel rating.

Yelp
Overrated. Overpriced. Decent service. VERY noisy. First no hot water in bath. Then no shower. Nicely appointed but old. Only one elevator. Not worth the money we spent.

Yelp
We stayed there for 3 nights. It's a typical antique style NY hotel. Only one customer elevator was available in the hotel and it was slow. The room is spacious and classic. There is a window in the bathroom and we were amazed by the sunlight coming in every morning and felt like at an old home. It's not common unless it's in a very old style hotel. The nicest part was the complimentary wine and cheese tasting every weekday afternoon on the 2nd floor. It had a good selection of cheese, Italian sparkling, red and white wine. We both had our favorite havarti with dill and the brie, the French kind with the crust on it. We checked out the famous monkey bar and also dined in the restaurant for dinner with friends. Its food was sort of creative Asian fusion style but unfortunately not our type.
