The staff at the hotel were genuinely nice and welcoming throughout our stay, which makes it even more disappointing that our final night was unsettling. When we were heading out around 7pm, we discovered that our room door would not lock from the outside. There was also no way to secure it from the inside, which is a major safety concern.
We immediately informed the receptionist, who tried using a key but it made no difference. She said she would contact the technician to have it checked while we were out and would let us know when we returned. However, when we arrived back around 11pm, nothing had been resolved. Surely, something could have been arranged in the hours between the time we left and came back. Instead, we were told that no management was on duty for her to escalate the issue, and that there were no other rooms available. We were then offered a bottle of wine, which we declined.
As a result, we had to spend the night knowing our door could not be locked, and I felt genuinely unsafe. In a situation like this, there should absolutely be procedures in place—such as moving us to another room if available, arranging a stay at a nearby hotel, or at the very least offering a partial refund for that night. Safety should never be optional, and this experience left us extremely disappointed.
