This was among the most outstanding dining experiences I have had in recent times. The level of customer service was exemplary, with all members of the dining room and bar staff displaying exceptional friendliness and professionalism. The food was of excellent quality and offered at a reasonable price. Although I reside a considerable distance from the establishment, I would undoubtedly visit more frequently

Amazing staff and just a well rounded spot to just chill and enjoy a few drinks. We consider this our local now. Can't wait for winter when the fire starts up. Inside it's homely and relaxing. Hearty meals served and always busy. Just love this spot ❤️

The Metro is a top supporter of interesting & eclectic live bands in a set-up where you can be right in with the action, or to the side in what's technically a 'beer-garden' with a view, or back in the front bar to refresh your drinks. Every time I've attended, there's been a relaxed & friendly atmosphere, free or reasonable door-charge, hotel (not club) drink charges, easy access to toilets, close to tram & taxi-rank, and the fastest uber response I've ever had. Highly recommended.

Great pub in the heart of Adelaide. Be aware the accom is pub style with shared facilities. It was a bit noisy at 5.00am with street noise but otherwise it was as I expected. If you're on a motorbike there's off-street parking overnight (closed between midnight and 6.00am) and good breakfast to be had over the road at the market.

Google
It is an honest and genuine home style pub. A great range of Coopers beers on tap and choices of wine. The bar staff are friendly and helpful. Good, not flash pub food. It is worth calling in for drinks after a hard shopping at the Adelaide Market.

We had dinner here and had the pork belly and the mushroom and polenta both were excellent. What more can we say? Just absolutely excellent.

Unfortunately, I had to stay here on a Saturday. Bad idea. The loud music until midnight made it very difficult to rest, coupled with the extremely uncomfortable beds. The bathrooms, on the other hand, were fine, clean, and in good condition.

Google
A decent price no nonsense place. Rooms with shared bathrooms, solid, delicious food at the pub, very central (opposite the famous market) - good opportunity to wash your cloths for 5 AUD in one hour in the washing machine. ||Friendly and communicative owners that solve problems.

Yelp
I'm not really sure why it took so long for me to get around to reviewing this place because it is actually a pretty decent pub. Okay, I haven't been here all that often, despite walking past here quite a few times (it is conveniently located opposite the central markets and across the road from Her Majesty's theatre). The pub has a lovely restaurant with a non-smoking beer garden (all the smokers end up at the tables on Grote Street, which tends to get pretty crowded on a Friday). The bar itself is also really nice, though does get pretty crowded as well. They have an okay selection of beers available, but it is one of those Adelaide pubs that I do really like.

Yelp
This is a lovely old style Adelaide building located close to Adelaide's Central Market. Metropolitan Hotel is s great venue for an after show drink. Great choice of wines and style of wine glasses. Intend to revisit for food.

Yelp
For years I never thought much of the Metropolitan Hotel. Trashy sports bar, seats out the front look ok, never really bothered to look out the back. Until a couple of weeks ago that was, when I saw a bunch of kids trundling in with guitars, amps and the like which roused my curiosity. After drinking a beer at the bar next door and then witnessing another couple of young punks with instruments heading in my curiosity overwhelmed me and I was forced to follow suit. To my surprise, in the back corner of the Metropolitan was a music venue! Not knowing then and certainly not recalling now the names of the bands performing, I paid the $5 entry fee (well actually my girlfriend paid the $5 entry fee for me cos I couldn't afford it) and headed in. Completely out of place and somewhat resembling the aspect of an early Beasty Boys film clip, the venue presented a low lying stage in the back corner of a dimly lit and sparsely furnished room. Furnished, really, only with the gauntly bodies of young punks haunched against the walls. But the most amazing thing was, that I was witnessing this from outside, from a beer garden in which I could not only see and hear the band playing, but I could also smoke. Surely now unique in Adelaide and fundamentally a thing of the past the Metropolitan presents a venue where one can watch live music, drink a beer and smoke at the same time. As for the quality of the music, well, that's never really been much of a concern anyway.

Yelp
The Metro is the pub I spend most of my time at these days, for very reason Andrew C. pointed out - they have a band room. When the Exeter had to reduce the quality and quantity of their gigs due to noise restrictions down on apartment-filled Rundle St, the Metro picked up the slack. It now plays host to many of the best local and Australian up-and-coming acts - Thee Oh Sees, Terrible Truths, Batrider, Fake Tan (these guys are doing a Sunday residency here over summer), Fabulous Diamonds, Collarbones + more. When you're tired of trying desperately to get laid at Jive, and you actually want to just hang out with some friends and see a good gig, this is the place to come. The place maintains a pleasantly bland decor - nice little pouffes and couches in the neat theatre bar (the Metro is just opposite the Queen's Theatre, so it brings in clientele on theatre nights), a fireplace, a Sopranos (!) pinball machine and high tables in the band-room bar. There is a medium size pokies room, which instead of destroying the live music, subsidises it. Plus you can duck in and grab a few free cookies and a cup of tea. The staff are really lovely, and there is two outdoor seating areas - on the street front and between the back bar and the band-room. What I like about the Metro is I'm always likely to run into people I like to see, but not every single person I know, like at the Exeter (which is still one of my favourite pubs, but for different reasons). Oh, and they have $3 beers on Wednesday nights after 9pm.

Yelp
Guaranteed a relaxed time for a beer any day or night and the meals are homely and plentiful. Great venue for local music, not just limiting itself to the wanky Indie scene that seems to be popular nowadays. I love the bar staff, and be sure to get a Metro mates card to accumulate points, and also take advantage of drink specials.

Yelp
I love a traditional Aussie pub, and the Metropolitan is just that. A place for the hard-working individual to enjoy a drink after a tiring day, people here are just looking for a relaxed evening (or afternoon) to drink their worries away. I'm sold! The service is great, the beer is cheap, and the outdoor seating is shady and mellow - what more could you ask for? There's no air of pretence and the regular patrons are down to earth. It's a simple, refreshing change from the overly pretentious bars littering the Chinatown area, and its simplicity is something to relish. All you need is good people and good booze, and the Metro doesn't strive to do anything but provide the setting.

Yelp
12/1/2012 So this is the kinda pubs Adelaide city locals go for. Hmmm...I see. Not bad. Much more classier looking inside than a lot of other pubs I've seen so far. Or so it would seem upon walking in. No doubt, we all like those leather couches, bright chandelier, and direct access to the bar, and this place does it right. THREE STARS. I needed the bathroom badly after vising two other pubs before this one, so I had follow the signs on the back wall and ended up in what looked like a backyard public loo. I was a wee bit disappointed with the toilets...I would call this place "Drinkin' and Dinin'" or "Worst Toilets for an Adelaide Pub" ...both of which I think are quite fitting names. It's that bad, they're like the toilets you would see in a camp dormitory (if you remember those 'Outdoor Education' camp excursions in high school, then you'll agree 100% with me). I was just expecting...more. Maybe some tables nearby?! The dining area is hidden away towards the back of the hall. And, the bartenders didn't even talk to us. She just took our order and continued with her work. Must be a busy gal. Apart from the two of us, there's only a handful of other customers here, and they're already drinking. But I don't want to end bitter. Overall - since this was my first time here - and it was on a late Wednesday afternoon after work - the poshy look and convenient access of this place are things I can appreciate about this pub. p.s. no joke: WORST pub toilets. Trust me.

Yelp
The Metro, is a pub dear to my heart. They have market fresh food, the chicken schnitzel with a side of chimichuri sauce is my favourite. They do a mean espresso martini. You can catch a game of the footy while sitting near an open fire. They also are such avid supporters of new and live music that you can forgive the pokie room, which I'm sure helps fund the endeavour. Their tap menu is constantly changing, with new local and not-so local beers coming through. There footy tipping program is hugely popular and one year I will remember to sign up for it. And only this week did I finally sign up to become a metromate which earns you points to spend on drink or food and gets you special access to metromate happy hours. Also when they do have it on the menu the sticky date pudding is not to missed!

Yelp
The metro is a nice little hotel in the CBD that still has an old school type of feel. One of its appeals for me is the fact that it doesn't look like every other pub in Adelaide that has been done up in the last 4 years which a pleasant surprise. (much like the cafe issue I feel we are currently experiencing). If your looking for some special meals, fancy cocktails or a good first date venue, the metro isn't the place for you. But if you are looking for a nice little bar with friendly staff (usually) and good pub food you have come to the right place. They also have live bands playing often in a cool little stage area out the back which is becoming more and more rare around town. They have foxtel which I have made use of during the soccer and football season (however most of the time you won't get sound on the tv). This does annoy me a bit, but having said that the playlist in almost always great. They also have pokies, which I'm not a fan of however it's the only way some of these pubs survive, that aren't owned by a supermarket chain. They are hidden away from the main area so you hardly even notice them With heaps of bars in the area the metro is a good little spot for a few early drinks and maybe a bite to eat before hitting the town proper. Or settle in, watch a band and make use of the drink specials that come along with a metro card (free to join). It's not going to be for everyone but you should give it a try. It's sort of a country pub within the city (get that nasty picture of the woolshed out of your head, it's not like that)

Yelp
Decor a bit dated but food and service really good. Bid and Won a voucher at a fund raiser otherwise would never have come here. We ordered the lamb rump and the grilled squid both great dishes perfectly cooked and attractively served. Wine is very reasonably priced. Great little find near the market in Adelaide. Definitely recommend it.

Yelp
Yeah, The Metro is ultra-daggy, and I'm not quite sure what has been refurbished here apart from the menu (I remember having quite a few yummy schnitzels here amongst the old men playing keno!), because it still looks the same to me. But yes, I will definitely say that I give one more star than Anita did mainly because they support local music. That is something sadly lacking in Adelaide, so that impresses me no end. We love to hear local Adelaide goth/post-punk band Rule Of Thirds, and they play here quite often, bringing the occasional interstate synth band with them. The Metro seem quite flexible in accommodating all these different types of bands, so I give them kudos for that. I am yet to eat here ... maybe I'll have to give it a go one lunchtime. It just looks like the sort of place that should have stuck to those daggy (but yummy) huge schnitzels instead of coming up with fancier menu items as noted on their outside board. We shall see ;) In the meantime, please keep supporting local music!

Yelp
Arguable one of the best pub wine lists in Adelaide. Such goodness as; - Axiom Shiraz (2012) - Some Young Punks 'Passion has Red Lips' Shiraz/Cabernet (2012) - Sevenhill Inigo Riesling (2012)

Yelp
I've had various experiences at the Metro. Some good, some bad, some drunken... A stalwart of the Adelaide hotel scene, The Metro has been here for many, many years. And will probably continue to be here for many, many more to come. Many moons ago, I was involved with a few goth / darkwave club night at The Metro. My memories are of cheap beer and playing the pokies with a mohawk amongst the older generation. I also have vague recollections of some sort of chocolate wheel. As far as hotels go, there isn't much that really makes The Metro stand out. It serves beer and some meals. What DOES give it a point of difference though, is that it supports live music. The band room is small, but provides lots of 'wall room' in order to lean and catch some great music. I am a little confused about the atrium area however. This area links the main hotel with the band room, and on my last visit I witnessed people smoking. is this considered 'outdoor'? Either way, it isn't particularly pleasant to have smoke wafting across the room when you're a (reformed) non-smoker. :\

Yelp
Free admission to live music in Adelaide. These are not words that you hear all the time around the scene here, but tonight it was most certainly the case. But, that did nothing to detract from the value and quality of the performances on offer. To summarise, just because this isn't a review about the gig, all the bands/performers were great. The crowd was a blast and everyone seemed to really enjoy each of the acts. But, back to the venue. I've been in here a couple of times prior for various other events, including a quick cheeky pint before seeing John Cleese a couple of years ago. It's got more charm than a lot of the city pubs - it feels a bit more like your typical British pub (which I friggin love) than what else is on offer in Adelaide. The beers on tap are your typical Coopers range, and the wines are well sourced from mostly South Australian wineries (from what I could tell was on the shelf). The bar service was pretty quick for the number of people in the joint. I haven't eaten here. All in all, a good night in a good venue with a bit of personality never goes astray. If you're into a bit of live music, give the Metro a crack some time.

Larry D.

Yelp
I really enjoy the metro as a night spot, warm summer beer spot, dinner spot, anything spot basically. Delicious pub grub and very inexpensive beer. There are many diverse options on the menu and a vegetarian can appreciate the variety set out. The live music has always been great to see here, very chilled.

Mel P.

Yelp
Friendly staff and decently priced pints and pub food. The bar area is small but the venue has a pleasant, simple and generally quiet atmosphere (except when people are playing the pinball machine, which isn't all that loud either).
