I knew the style in Kunming hostels is that the shower and basin areas are shared between men and women when booking, but got cold feet when I saw it for myself. Thankfully the staff helped me get a full refund for the paid dorm room so I could make a new booking for a single room instead. The location is good for folks who like to walk 1 to 2 km easy walking paths to attractions and train stations. The cleaning team was very good and cleaned my room well everyday. The single room provided 1 hair dryer, 2 toothbrush, 1 comb, 2 bath towels, 2 hand towels, 2 bottled water and 2 paper cups every day. 2 tea bags and 1 water boiler. There is also a room where you can take free hot water near the public washroom. The attractions of walking distance is mostly to the north of the hostel, while the attractions in the south needs bus or train transport. Bring an umbrella and plastic slippers during summer for when you get caught in the lovely rain. The hostel design theme is pub and bar, so expect alcohol and tobacco smell as you pass by the public space to reach your rooms. The pub/bar area is also where hostel visitors have their breakfast and mingle. There are plenty of nice roof top open air spaces and open air corridors as well. Overall a pleasant stay, but I would try another hostel if you dislike tobacco smell when having meals or when you want to mingle with other travellers.

Location is perfect, right at the end of the main pedestrian street. Nice bar and chill out area available, plus a roof top with some view. There are big beds and storage facilities, however the mattress as such was very thin and hard (as often within China). Sometimes there was a weird smell in the mixed washroom area. Overall, a nice place to stay for some nights - recommended!

Place is really cool, location is great and people who work there are really friendly. If you’re sensitive to sound when you sleep, the ear plugs they have free of charge, won’t help you lol. The doors slam insanely loudly and shake the whole room. I’d recommend bringing your own high grade noise cancellation ear plugs and you may have a decent nights sleep. It was really hard for me to get a good nights rest here. Otherwise the space is really beautiful and chill to have an outdoor space, but there are a lot of smokers in the lounge (if you’re sensitive to that’s request a room rather away if possible). Overall really chill and good facilities :)

This is a quality hostel at the heart of Kunming. This area is like an ancient city. The hostel has an attached bar and restaurant. The IPA is tasty through a little expansive. The room is clean. I really like that they add 2 bottles of water a day regardless of if you've fully consumed the previous 2 bottles. Very good would stay again.

I stayed at this hostel with some initial hesitation, but it turned out to be a good choice. While it requires a short walk from the nearest metro station, the location is excellent, i.e. right in the heart of one of Kunming’s liveliest districts. Nanping Street is just across the road and a variety of affordable eateries are conveniently located behind the property. The hostel shares a floor with a bar, which can be noisy, particularly on weekends. On occasion, guests smoke inside the bar, and the smoke and sound may drift into the rooms. Fortunately, the management has installed two doors to buffer the noise between the hostel and bar, though these are sometimes left open.During my stay, there was a disruptive guest in my shared room who snored loudly and allowed his phone to ring throughout the night. On the second night, his friends entered the room around 1 a.m. to retrieve his belongings, switching on the lights and waking everyone. I reported this to the manager, who took the matter seriously and addressed it with the guest upon check-out.in terms of facilities, the hostel is well-equipped. There are ample toilets and showers though a few of the shower heads could use some maintenance. Body wash and shampoo are provided, though some cubicles may have mislabeled dispensers. Guests can also enjoy a snooker table, fridge and complimentary drinking water at the bar, with additional hot water available near the restrooms. Washing machines are available for a fee. While some front desk staff were less approachable, others were genuinely helpful. In particular, the supervisor (if I recall correctly, Mr Tai) stood out for his kindness and assistance. He provided valuable advice on attractions worth visiting and helped me make the most of my trip to Kunming. Two other staff members (sorry didn’t get their names) also helped me book tickets to Stone Forest Park. All in all, this is a good place to stay, especially for budget travelers who want a central location and lively atmosphere. I’d consider staying here again on my next visit to Kunming.

Been booking at the Hump Hostel for 10 years, both hostel dorms and private rooms. It's always a pleasant experience. I don't like how the business doesn't provide bath towels for hostel tenants. I know it's optional under the new Chinese law but I think they could do better. It's like a museum. The hallways and some of the private rooms are decorated with WW2 artifacts. Best location in Kunming. A bit of a walk or taxi ride to the nearest metro stations.

This hotel is truly a hidden gem. The entrance may look small and unassuming, but once you step inside, it opens up into a spacious and beautifully designed space. There’s a pub, café, and even entertainment areas — everything you need for a relaxing stay. The room was exceptionally clean and quiet, making it perfect for rest after a long day. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for comfort and convenience in a surprisingly peaceful setting.

The hostel is very easy to locate because it is situated in a prime location, right in front of an important landmark -the Jinma Biji Arch.Their personnel, while really young-looking, had been reliable and extremely helpful with all of my inquiries and requests for some assistance during some errands.Toilet is neat and regularly cleaned from my observation, while facilities such as the bar, washing machine area, billiards table, among others, offer a variety of activities during one's downtime, or even before going to rest.So far, I had encountered four foreigners of different nationalities during my stay. I can say with confidence that they are accomodating to all nationalities, despite some limitations with communication. For those who cannot communicate in Chinese yet, get ready with your translator for faster transaction. This hostel is close to Nanping Pedestrian Street, one of the busiest locations here in downtown Kunming. It also has close proximity to subway lines 1/2/6 Tangzixiang, 5 Milesi, and 3/5 Wu Yi, so it is ideal for those who are in for exploration and adventure.
