LOVED this hotel. We got a good deal booking online, so especially considering the price, I could not have been more pleased. Prague, overall, was great and more affordable than most of the touristy European cities, so we'll hopefully be back and when we are, we'll definitely stay at Icon again.
Effie checked us in and I cannot say enough about her. My boyfriend, who's generally a pretty neutral character, actually told her that she had provided the best customer service of any hotel he'd ever stayed in. She gave us lots of recommendations and answered our questions about the city. Her advice ended up helping us a lot! She even took us up to our room and showed us around.
Most European hotel rooms I find to be too small, but I was super pumped about our room here! It was spacious and had lots of windows facing the street and HIGH CEILINGS. What!?? Awesome. Two complimentary bottles of water and complementary coffee and tea, as well. YES!!! The coffee was instant, but was surprisingly good. Like, I'm not sure how it was that good. The bed was comfy, though it seemed like the bare mattress was exposed on the side and we slept on a pad or something? I tried not to care and was so tired that I just forgot about it, anyway. Everything was super clean and the decor was chic, if a bit sparse in the bedroom. Bathroom was excellent & you could heat up the towel rack-I did not know that was a thing. No hair conditioner, but none of the other four Euro hotels we stayed at on our trip had it, either. I didn't think either the shampoo or body gel smelled that great-maybe they were trying to make it gender neutral and it just turned out weird? Not like the scents lingered on me, though.
Great location-near old town and the main square and down the street from the tram. Effie recommended taking the tram to the castle since it's a bit further, but we wanted to take in everything on the way, so we walked. Not too terribly far, though the weather was hot for me.
Amazing breakfast was INCLUDED!! What!?? Awesome. They had lots of offerings sitting out (croissants, bread, cheese, meats, pastries, fruit, cereal, etc) and you could also order something like eggs if you wanted. We had french toast and it came heaped with delicious fruit and a touch of powdered sugar on top. YUM! We also got some drinks at the bar later, both good, and tried the churros-meh. All very reasonably priced, though!
Effie set up a car to take us to the airport and had a bagged breakfast ready! The guy who checked us out was also wonderful-not sure of his name. Effie said the building is over 200 years old and was an orphanage until the 1950s! Maybe the high ceilings were to accommodate bunk beds? Fascinating history. Anyway, highly recommend this hotel!
