I usually come here every Friday for line dancing and have always enjoyed the atmosphere and the community there, which is why this experience was particularly disappointing.
Yesterday I came with a group of friends to celebrate my 30th birthday. It was my mistake for not making a booking, and I fully understand that bookings take priority. When we arrived around 5:45pm the venue was completely empty, but staff told us most tables were reserved. We respected that and later asked if they could let us know if any tables became available later. We stayed the whole evening celebrating and spent a few hundred dollars at the venue, so we were quite surprised by how the situation was handled.
Unfortunately, it seemed like bookings weren’t being properly checked throughout the night. At one point, a table next to us simply claimed a table and staff accepted it as their booking without verifying. They even told us (while giggling) that they had just claimed it, which was frustrating. Later on, someone ran over and took another table that had been empty for quite a while, despite us asking earlier if anything would open up.
The most frustrating part was the inconsistent communication from staff. One staff member told us there were absolutely no unbooked tables available, while another later told us - when we raised the issue with the manager - that certain section had never been booked and that we could have sat there the whole time.
When I tried to clarify this, the staff member with red curly hair and glasses told me that maybe my English was “bad” and that I didn’t understand properly. I found this comment quite inappropriate and unnecessary, especially when I was simply asking about the table situation.
Another staff member who had originally told us the whole venue was booked was otherwise polite, but told me I needed to calm down while I was explaining the issue, which made it feel like I might be asked to leave just for raising a concern.
Many of my friends are part of the community and came to celebrate with me, but a lot ended up leaving early because of how uncomfortable the situation became and how our group was treated.
I completely understand that mistakes and miscommunication can happen in busy venues. However, a simple apology and clearer communication would have gone a long way. Instead, the situation was handled in a way that felt dismissive and unnecessarily rude.
It’s unfortunate because many of us are regulars who come for line dancing every Friday and genuinely enjoy the space and community. I hope this feedback encourages better communication and table management in the future.
