The 40 Best Resorts in the Caribbean: 2024 Readers’ Choice Awards

"Hugging the island’s south coast, this small but perfectly formed estate encompasses 19 acres of manicured gardens, all set against a dramatic backdrop of turquoise waters and pink-hued Caribbean sunsets. Each of the suites ooze timeless, old-school charm, featuring colonial accents and period furnishings: think grand four-posters and mahogany furniture. Wake up to languid breakfasts on the beach before working on your tan along the hotel’s palm-fringed sands—and if you’re tempted to explore further afield, you’ll be in the ideal location for sightseeing, with Antigua’s famed Shirley Heights and Nelson’s Dockyard both merely a stone’s throw away." - CNT Editors

"Even during Antigua Sailing Week, when English Harbour is chock-a-block with yachts from all over the world, the 28-room Inn at English Harbour remains serenely detached from the chaos. The inn is five minutes by water taxi from the center of things at historic Nelson’s Dockyard, but its tucked-away location on a white-sand beach backed by 19 leafy acres (and a no-kids-under-10 policy) ensures tranquility. Four snug rooms, with marble floors and queen beds, occupy two beachside cabanas, while 25 more generously proportioned suites, all with dark mahogany floors, four-poster king-size canopy beds, and verandas or balconies, are in three wooden buildings sitting farther back among the tropical greenery. Although the Terrace Restaurant and Stone Bar are in the property’s original stone house, the rooms, despite their colonial look, are relatively modern, which means there is a flat-screen TV, an iPod docking station, and Internet access."

Just got back from a week at this marvellous hotel . It was the last week of the season but all the staff went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time. The rooms, the food, the pool and beach made for a really relaxing time. We took the courtesy boat across to Nelsons Dockyard a couple of time, but otherwise just enjoyed the ambience of the hotel. Would happily stay there again. Top marks to all the staff for their friendly attitude. We have travelled widely in the Caribbean but this was the best yet! p.s. make sure you try the afternoon tea.

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday in this superb hotel. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left we really could not fault the service and facilities afforded to us. |It is nearing the end of the season and the hotel was quiet and peaceful - just what we like! Probably the loudest thing we heard during our stay was the bird song! |We stayed in a first floor junior suite, with ample room for the 2 of us and a beautiful balcony with views of the sea and pool. The furnishing and decoration was stylish and perfect and the bed / pillows extremely comfortable. |We stayed on an all inclusive basis - This included drinks, breakfast, a two course lunch in the beach front restaurant and three courses in the restaurant for dinner (though we couldn’t always manage all these courses and meals!) The quality of food was superb, the lunch time menu was varied with specials each day, often delicious salads which we particularly enjoyed. The evening menu did not have quite so much choice, but always delicious and extremely high quality meals and interspersed with an Italian menu and a bbq beach menu once a week. |What really made our holiday was the level of service we received. Every member of staff (from reception, guest services, restaurant staff, gardeners, groundskeepers, housekeeping, security guard, beach staff, the Captain on the small boat which provides a shuttle to Nelson’s Harbour, and the drivers, who provide a shuttle up and down the hill to the restaurant) were extremely helpful and so friendly, only too happy to help with anything at all. |Will we be back - yes I’ve no doubt. It was a perfect week! |Thank you

We booked late and for the last few days of the season (early June). The hotel closed the day we left in fact. So our experience might not be typical in high season. Booked a beach cabana right ON the beach. Room is fine, fridge a bit noisy is all. TV reception not great. Service was excellent. Really friendly staff. Ate in first night but not good value. High price, average quality. Lovely grounds and a top beach, warm sea. Not cheap to stay but a good location (we hired a car and saw nowhere we would have preferred) and a nice treat.

We had the most wonderful time in such a beautiful location. The pros the staff couldn’t do enough for us Sasha you were a star booking our restaurants all the time Tristan and Thomas on the beach Vere on the boat always made us laugh with our chats Stacey And.imesha in the restaurants. Stacey your willpower to stay quiet when you had a rude customer - thought you were brilliant . Also Rhiannon think I have the name wrong, but thank you for keeping our room spotless especially the balcony where I loved your birds and the slippers they were so comfy. The cons i’m so sorry but the food was so repetitive there was no change in the menus. We only went to the Terrace once and thought it was very expensive for the quality of the food. I must say we love the restaurants in Barbados they were second to none and maybe we were expecting that again. .apart from the food I cannot fault the inn. Thank you to everyone who made our holiday so special ! I miss your beautiful ocean already . One tip outside loose cannon they have a raft that you can swim to can you please put one where the buoy is for us to swim to! Melanie and Alan

I appreciate and recommend nykwilkyins’ recent review. Looking for a high quality small hotel on a beach, but without being expected to take the “all inclusive” feature of some of the more recognizable names that would keep us from wanting to go off property to try the local restaurants, I found the Inn at English Harbor on TripAdvisor and slh.com. Glad I did. It’s everything I need or want in a vacation hotel, including their restaurant, Terrace, at which my wife and I dined on our first night. Location-wise, if that’s a word, it’s basically around a (rock) corner from a well known and active tourist area, but seems isolated except for the occasional watercraft cruising in or out of English Harbor.

The Inn is as good as it gets for a stylish, boutique Caribbean hotel, with the majority of its guests of a certain age, with a sprinkling of younger Americans and maybe some honeymoon couples.|Our Junior suite was pretty good, white, light and airy, with discreet housekeeping, a Nespresso machine, but bring your own favourite capsules…. and I took the precaution of requesting a machine before arrival) and an iron and board on request to freshen up clothes.|A nice touch was complimentary vacuum flasks to fill up with cold filtered water from various locations. The tap water is totally drinkable, so I was amazed that, apart from breakfast, the only table water was imported still or sparkling at a price reflecting the air miles, storage and recycling costs. I can understand the sale of sparkling water, but not to make tap or filter water available seems a shame for a clearly environmentally concerned operator…… if the Ritz in London can do it…..|We enjoyed the food, a high standard, we’ ll really miss the lobster, and the willingness to ta produce off menu items, such as gazpacho. We were on an interesting meal plan of breakfast, tea and dinner, but no drinks (not even water….!), which meant we could go out to Nelson’s Harbour for luncn, not for any better food, but for a chance to see some quite amazing floating boy’s toys, and soak in a bit of history.|Activity on the tennis court was sadly lacking for us, and the only sailing activity was 2 Lasers. Vern, who ran the very efficient shuttle to Nelson’s Harbour, warned me that the wind in the bay was flakey, and I duly managed to capsize , but he helped me back up, all that was damaged was my pride. I had been told that there was a Sunfish, but apparently it was not available, and given the unreliable breeze, a small Hobie would be a far better option than the Lasers, plus something else more stable.||Moving on, Reception was professional and vey pleasant, and the shuttle from the rooms up to the Terrace for dinner was pretty reliable. In fact just about everyone seemed to be enjoying making our stay a memorable experience.| |In summary, we had a great 10 day holiday, the location is superb, most people will not be disappointed if they are looking for style, comfort and atmosphere, as good as anywhere in the Caribbean.

Excellent beach resort for a restful recharging of batteries in the Caribbean sun with nice rooms, friendly efficient service and good food often utilising produce from the resort's own organic garden. Also we very much appreciated the no-fuss no-charge late checkout we were granted on our last day with an evening international departure flight.

This boutique hotel is so friendly. We walked out of a 5 star Relais Chateaux resort (run by a charmless manager and even less charming MD) to come to this smaller family owned hotel. It was the best thing to do. The staff here are genuine, friendly, cheery, always smiling and they try to make everything possible for their guests. Here you feel like family. The manager Fabio wanders around checking on everyone and making sure all wishes can be granted. Even the gardeners stop to greet you. Vere the boat driver runs the shuttle back and forth to Nelsons Harbour taking guests to explore the dock yard. Mirrium and her team at the beach restaurant are super friendly. We love Stacy too. The food is delicious, thank you to the talented chefs. There are canoes and laser boats freely available on the beech for little trips in the bay. The pool is big and delightfully cold. There are buggies to run up and down in. Vincent happily carried our 6 cases still joking as he did so! Melissa and Kafi and all the reception staff went above and beyond to welcome and help us. They even repaired my husband's glasses without us asking... this is what we mean by nothing is too much trouble. The Inn at the top of the hill, is where you have dinner and is a spectacular venue with the very best of service on offer, super efficient and friendly. A wider wine list would be welcome but that is the only improvement we can think of. The live music on Friday night was of an exceptionally high standard. Huge thanks to you all. We will return for sure.
