The Sleek New Laguna Beach Hotel Casa Loma Plays Homage to the City’s Forgotten Past | Vogue

"Casa Loma is a recently reopened 70-room hotel in Laguna Beach, formerly known as The Inn at Laguna Beach. It has been renamed and reimagined after an extensive renovation by Electric Bowery, featuring soft neutrals, warm wood, curved archways, natural textures, and open sight-lines. It offers views of the Pacific Ocean from every common space, including the rooftop terrace and cliff-side pool, as well as nearly all suites and guest rooms. An onsite radio station plays vintage surf songs, and the decor includes handmade art, tapestries, murals, and artifacts curated by LAND. The opening weekend featured a performance by IAMA Theatre Company inspired by local surf legends." - Christina Pérez

"Why we love it: A centrally located stay near Laguna’s best beaches, parks, and restaurants The Highlights: - A dreamy setting right above Main Beach - Delicious breakfasts and daily wine receptions - A location within walking distance of Laguna’s best restaurants The Review: Galleries, restaurants, and nightlife lie just steps from the Inn at Laguna Beach, while Heisler Park sprawls along the nearby bluffs, offering a place to stroll, see art, or simply lounge in the sun on a grassy lawn. Still, guests don’t even have to leave the hotel to enjoy sand, surf, and epic Pacific sunsets. Here, the 70 guest rooms mix modern comforts (European-style duvets, pillowtop mattresses) with coastal style (louvered shutters, rattan furniture). Some even include private patios or balconies, but all feature extras like newspaper delivery, iHome docking stations, and loaner umbrellas and beach chairs. Following a multimillion-dollar renovation in 2012, the Inn now boasts a more sustainable design, complete with low-VOC paint, renewable bamboo furniture, low-flow faucets and showers, tile made from recycled stone, and birchwood key cards. Not everything is paired back, however, especially the hotel’s signature breakfast, which includes artisan pastries, bacon brioche sandwiches, and bowls of fresh sliced fruit. Guests can also look forward to a daily wine reception, chilled milk and cookies in the lobby every evening, and cocktails at the Pacific Terrace Bar, which sits high above Main Beach. Best of all, the Inn is dog-friendly, so you can bring along your four-legged friend for a couple of days on the beach."

Best oceanfront hotel in Laguna Beach! We LOVE this hotel! We arrived early and thought for sure they would tell us that check-in was at four and Our room was it ready, but that's not what happened!!! We arrive at 12:30 and Andy greeted us with a wonderful welcome and a bottle of antipode's water, a friendly smile, and frozen grapes! We went to our room and it's poolside which we love a little activity... the ocean View is just beyond. Our room is adorable. We absolutely love the color palette, and the mini bar is something like I've never seen before! There's even fresh lime! We went to the fourth floor and relaxed on the massive terrace for a while and enjoyed the background music and the beautiful ocean view. We came to this hotel about 14 years ago and at the end of last year, it had a complete makeover and they did a fabulous job. The colors are just soothing. The rooms are adorable if you go to the fourth floor there is a beautiful terrace With lounge chairs, and comfy places to relax and enjoy the ocean view have a cocktail! This is one of the most affordable and beautiful oceanfront hotels in Laguna Beach! We usually stay at surf and sand but no more this is our new go to spot! PS the price is great too!!

If you’re looking for a slice of heaven in Laguna Beach, look no further than Casa Loma itself! The property is beautiful and in the perfect location. You can listen to the waves crashing every night, walk anywhere around Laguna for wonderful food, spend a day at the beach or the beautiful pool! It is seriously amazing. The staff is so helpful and friendly. Ren and Dennis went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed our time there. Already can’t wait to be back!

Everything was absolutely wonderful. Better than expected. Service was excellent. So many nice touches from offering a complementary cocktail to serving frozen grapes at poolside. We were even offered wipes for our sunglasses. Fresh baked delicious cookies served at 6:00 were awesome. Beautiful rooms and grounds. Even provided a microwave on request. Food in the restaurant was great and convenient. Location was perfect! We’ll be back!

This hotel is a MUST VISIT. It genuinely took me back to a European summer feel- 5 stars all around. The service was incredible, so attentive and authentic (shout out Dennis thank you so much and HBD!). Felipe, the manager, went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. The details Felipe and his team curated for our stay made us return customers. The hotel itself is SO beautiful, interior design on point, so eloquent. The views from this hotel are unbeatable, stunning. There are so many good things to say it’s hard to pick a few for this review. The location- wow. So centrally located in Laguna, you do not need to drive anywhere once you arrive. We walked to all our dinners and sightseeing. Thank you Casa Loma hotel for such a beautiful weekend! Felipe, Dennis and team- thank you! We will be back.

It's hard to make a stay in Laguna Beach any better, but Casa Loma did it. The location is perfect. The service was outstanding. The vibes are amazing. I gave the room 4 stars because there were a few things that I wish were done better. I think it’s mostly because the hotel structure is older. But the walls are extremely thin. It sounded like someone was constantly moving furniture or doing a gymnastics routine in the room above us. We could hear the whole conversation and other activities of the room next to us. I also wish there was a dresser or a little more storage because we were there for five days and we like to unpack, so it just got kind of messy with the clothes everywhere. The last thing about the room, if you plug anything into the outlet by the sink (a straightener, a steamer, etc) the lights in the room flicker the entire time you have it plugged in. We did call about it and the electrician said it’s just because it’s older wiring. That being said, I will still stay here every time we come to Laguna.

On the spur of the moment we decided to spend another day in the area, decided to make that day by the beach. We are very familiar with the area. We had previously stayed at the Inn at Laguna Beach, abs when it was redecorated and changed its name to Casa Loma, we were excited to see this "new" place. Indeed, it was like a new place! Of course it's location is terrific, but the upgrades are wonderful and even better the staff is outstanding! Very gracious to a person. Our room was perfect for our needs, fresh, comfortable and new! The staff was very personable and accommodating. Highly recommend!

Very classy boutique hotel. Exceptional service by staff. Rooms are very comfortable and offer wonderful views. Relaxing night times with the nearby surf sounds. Love the little balcony for reading and relaxing. The food was wonderfully delicious - and the service staff were so polite and attentive. We didn't want to eat our meals anywhere else in town. Overall, a very relaxing and enjoyable stay. Can't wait for the next visit.

Casa Loma is a beautiful hotel situated overlooking the beach. Our room was perfect. The staff was so very kind and welcoming. Everything was clean and the atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing. We loved everything and will be back next summer.

Yelp
The newly renovated boutique hotel is gorgeous, with the most curated decorative touches. The staff is beyond hospitable and made my mom's birthday extra special with a fruit platter and sparking wine! We saw dolphins from our balcony and enjoyed the perfect view of the Laguna Beach coast! Highly recommend an ocean facing room (we stayed in 513). All around an amazing experience! The hotel is walking distance to the heart of Laguna. My parents have stayed in quite few places in OC and Casa Loma has been the best so far!

Yelp
Disappointing Stay - Not Worth the Hype Casa Lola looks charming online, but the reality is far less serene. There's very little privacy -- thin walls and shared spaces make it feel more like a hostel than a boutique hotel. The property is noisy, both from street traffic and other guests. Worst of all, there's a lack of attention to detail -- from cleanliness to amenities, everything felt rushed and underthought. For the price, there are far better options in Laguna.

Yelp
We flew in for the night from Florida for Mom's funeral. My sister's house was full with her 3 children, Mom's house is devoid of furniture and on the market, so, not wanting to be alone, I asked my cousin where she and her mom (Mom's sister) were staying. They said Casa Loma because of the view of the beach. Yes, the estate was paying for my room, but, I still did not want to be extravagant so I booked the least expensive room available. Right behind the wall of the top parking deck by the lobby entrance. Very convenient! They also were gracious enough to allow me to check in early! A huge blessing! Front desk staff was friendly and offered genuine, warm, condolences. The room was newly renovated, clean and the bed was comfy. After dinner, my cousin joined us in the hot tub which is easily one of the best hot tubs I have ever been in! After a restful sleep, we awoke to appreciate all the eco-friendly touches. The shower is beautiful with a short stool in the corner, and the provided shampoo, conditioner, and bar soap smelled nice. The water pressure was definitely "Cal-eco-friendly". Yes, it rinses you off, but, if you have issues getting all the soap out of your hair, I would recommend going to a local salon. The low-wattage bulbs in the room provided soothing light, but I would not recommend packing too many dark colored items because it might be hard to find what you are looking for. The picture window overlooking the walkway had a lovely curtain over it for privacy, yet still let in enough natural light to do your make up. We did not get much chance to explore all the hotel had to offer, but they are lovely people there and I highly recommend it if you can afford it.

Yelp
My husband and I celebrated my 60th here yesterday. We stayed one night. I wish I could've stayed longer. The hotel is beautiful. I loved every detail. It's very peaceful and at night glows with the beautiful lighting. There are beautiful Plants everywhere. The staff were all very pleasant and attentive. I have to mention the welcome drinks and the food. Everything we had was not only pleasing to the eye, but tasted amazing. The pool was nice and private. The views from our balcony were unbelievable! I can't wait to come back! Such attention to every detail! My new fav hotel in Laguna beach.

Yelp
We had the most incredible, intimate wedding at this hotel rooftop venue! The beach view was absolutely breathtaking and made for the perfect backdrop. Elisa and Allene were attentive, professional, and made everything seamless! Elisa was truly a gem and was so beyond helpful on my wedding day. She was the sweetest and was instrumental in making our day the most special. Our guests couldn't stop talking about the atmosphere, the food, and the gorgeous setup. It truly exceeded all our expectations -- highly recommended!!!

Yelp
My daughter and I have stayed here three times under the Inn at Laguna Beach brand. It is obviously pricey, and I meticulously watched dates and rates to get the most "affordable" price. The one thing that made the resort fee worth it was the rooftop complimentary wine hour and amazing view while enjoying the vibe. This was the highlight for us of each trip and a core memory for us as mother and daughter. We were looking forward to our next visit after the renovations. But now, not only have room rates become so insanely ridiculous that I don't know if we can afford to ever come back, but the resort fee I think is higher and they took away the wine hour??? This is so very disappointing and hurts my Laguna-loving soul.

Yelp
My husband and I have a long history with this hotel... or shall I say, The Inn at Laguna Beach, the former resident of this location. That said, it is by far my favorite location in Laguna Beach, now having stayed at several. I have noticed that many of the negative reviews come from the period of construction and renovation which was almost finished during out stay in late August 2024. As far as the location, it is along the main beach, a lovely walkway along the cliffs, steps from many restaurants, galleries and shops, and a 15 minute walk from The Pageant of the Masters. Truly,, it cannot get any better than that. This is really a small boutique hotel. I really like how the remodel worked with the style and charm of the original hotel. The hotel, which had always been quite charming, now has a fresh, mid-century modern look. Our room had stunning views of the ocean and overlooked the small pool area. I liked the retro speaker, the working rotary phone, the nice in-room cocktail glasses and cocktail shaker, as well as the working fridge stocked with fresh creamer for coffee, and complimentary water. The hotel itself, doesn't have a lot of space for amenities, as it is quite small, with no restaurant on premises. They do have a small bar, that is not fully set up yet. There, however, they do a wine and cookie reception from 5-6 each evening. We went the first evening and they had a nice selection. We sat out on the patio and enjoyed the. hour. In the morning, the bar area became a coffee and tea bar. Staff was very friendly. The pool area is small, but quaint. They have a small pool and a jacuzzi. I noticed that it had not changed from the Inn at Laguna Beach, except for maybe some added seating. Anyway, my husband and I decided to go to the hotel bar and ask to buy some wine in plastic cups to take to the poll. The staff member asked us to wait and then brought us back a couple of complimentary glasses to take with us. I imagine it is probably because the bar and the register were not set up yet, but it was a nice gesture. My only issues were with our room. First, because of the size, there was a very small closet area and a few small shelves, but nowhere else to put things like clothing or shoes away. I think that the dressers and drawers might take away from the style they are going for, but a little more storage would be helpful. Also, I noticed a few hairs under the closet and again near the shower. For some, they would have complained and asked to change rooms. For me, it was certainly not what I wanted to see, but it was minor, and I hope they pay more attention to cleaning. However, aside from that, the room did appear very clean. All in all, it was nice to be back in our favorite location. I think the remodel is quite lovely. I hope they keep some of the throwbacks to the former Inn. Aside from some minor details, I would like to return.

Yelp
The location of this hotel is simply the BEST. Truly can't be beat. I love the casual feel of the rooms. Great vibe. Bed was super comfortable. Good linens and bathrobes! Love the new look.

Yelp
Taking everything with a grain of salt because of COVID, however I have stayed at 2 other hotels for work throughout this pandemic and this is by far the worst service I've experienced. On top of the inability to properly check us in without attitude from Alyssa at the front desk, there were a circle of flies in the lobby as well as some superficial flaws to our room that shouldn't exist considering the price. If this wasn't a 4 star on yelp and didn't have the $$$ then I would understand a lack of warm staff and the flaws in the interior, however for the price you're paying this hotel misses the mark.

Ciara K.

Yelp
Room 435, at $350 a night in the winter. Patio has room for 1 kinda weird for a room for 2. Heater is broken loud and we didn't use it so we were cold at night. Didn't help the room is located with a door that is in the elements with a 2-3" gap letting more cold air in. I honestly loved the view and saw the difference in the renovation just think they forgot a couple important things.

MIke P.

Yelp
We booked a Top Floor King with a balcony and they showed us the room but the balcony was barely large enough to stand on. Although there are many top floor kings with balconies and chairs, ours wasn't one. We arrived early and asked if our room was ready (about 12:30) but it wasn't and they said they would text us. We went back there at 3:30 since we hadn't seen anything and the lobby was full of people waiting for rooms. We were the last to get our room Maybe they gave ours to someone else?). Once we saw the balcony, we asked to be moved to another room. We ended up on the 1rst floor with a balcony. The room was okay, nothing special. The hotel is in a very nice location with a good view. I do feel it is over-priced based on the room we received. We were told that there are 14 different room types but only 5 descriptions. We were not told that they have a restaurant or that there is a nice terrace with a view on the 4th floor. I have traveled to over 35 countries and stayed at 100s of hotels and I would say that it did not live up to its advertisements. The staff is helpful, but I think they experience many issues like ours. There are many other nice hotels in Laguna Beach, you might try them instead. Also, be advised that there is a $60 parking and $40 resort fee daily. You won't find this out until it is too late to cancel!

Yelp
We booked this hotel for the great location on the beach and close to shops and restaurants. The property is stunning even when under construction. We were not informed of this at the time of booking the hotel. There was no restaurant, bar, spa or any amenities. We were charged $30 per day for zero amenities. I typically do not dine in hotel restaurants, so I was not concerned about it, plus Laguna beach has many excellent restaurants blocks from the hotel. It is nice to be able to have a drink at the bar. We made up for it by purchasing Prosecco at a store and having drinks on the terrace at sunset. I think many reviewers would have crushed the place with 1 or 2 stars. Why the four-star rating? The place is in an amazing location and will be a stunning place to stay once the renovation is completed. The rooms are going to be beautiful. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Just make sure you are aware of all of the costs, parking, amenities fee, taxes and whatever. We will stay there on a return visit and cough up the big bucks.

Jessica G.

Yelp
Honestly, one of our favorite hotel stays. We loved the location being right on the beach and right next to Heisler Park. The staff was welcoming and friendly. Small issue at check-in was taken care of immediately and with professionalism. Delicious welcome drink at checkin was much appreciated. The views from the terrace are unbelievable. I loved the radio station that pumps delightfully out of the cool retro radio in our room. It's these types of small, stylish touches that make our stay exceptional. Don't forget to go up to the 4th floor to the outdoor patio - it'll become one of your favorite places!!

Yelp
My family and myself were recently about 2 weeks ago traveling for my daughters birthday in Laguna Beach, CA. We booked hotel Casa Loma Hotel for the night with a late check out 1 pm. Around 12:58 there was a knock at our door and almost seconds later the door swung open. In the doorway was a woman from the front desk. I am sitting there unclothed from the waist up and this woman is asking if we are checking out soon. I replyed yes, but I am obviously nursing my son and pumping I am standing there with my breast in my hand and this woman acknowledged she heard me and proceeds to just stand in the doorway of the private room I paid for staring at my breasts. I felt very uncomfortable about it so when asked to do a survey I put this in it. General manager replies stating he wanted to make it right then proceeded to just not respond further. I don't think this is appropriate behavior and I'm still 2 weeks later feeling very uncomfortable about what happened. I wouldn't return. I suggest if you want somewhere private to stay you pick another hotel. I'll note, They did not attempt to call the room, our cell phones to ask if we had checked out without stopping by the desk first... Just knocked once didn't wait for a reply and barge into the room seconds later. This is a complete invasion of privacy and honestly, I would have preferred to be charged if I was late to check out than be 2 weeks later uneasy about what happened.

Yelp
The only redeeming quality of this hotel is the location - right on the beach and in walking distance of everything. But overall, felt like a motel. Pool was small, no room service, poor quality shampoo/soap, and our car got keyed in the parking garage which is not locked over night. We asked the staff to check the cameras but they wouldn't get back to us. Would not recommend this place.

Yelp
Nice hotel near the beach in Laguna Beach. Front desk was accommodating and kindly gave us an upgrade after some issue with agoda. Room is decent and clean and view was ok. Cant wait to go back here again when the renovation is done.

Yelp
This Hotel is currently UNDER CONSTRUCTION as it " rebrands" it's self from The Inn At Laguna Beach to Casa Loma.......but the same owners do not share this on there web page. THAT'S WRONG AND THEY KNOW IT. They also have not updated there info on Booking.Com. . They gave us the wrong room that we booked. We were supposed to have a nice tub and two beds. But they no longer have tubs. Thanks for letting us know. When we advised them of the mistake they did nothing. Getting back and forth to leave the hotel we had to walk through a construction site. Want a quiet day by the pool. ?....good luck. Hammering and drilling...... Lobby.....? There is none. You check in under the garage in a small room. Remember YELP rates this place as a " 3 STAR HOTEL. They are being very kind. Why would anyone pay $ 1200.00 to $ 1700.00 a night to stay here at this time. And PLEASE don't tell me to REACH OUT TO YOU......We did every morning and nothing happened.

Stephanie B.

Yelp
We came back to the Casa Loma Beach hotel to celebrate a special birthday for my husband and I got a top floor ocean view room to make it special for him. When we checked in Carlos helped us and he was fantastic. When our room was ready someone else was helping us and I don't remember her name but she was not very friendly or helpful when she gave us a different room than what was expected. I told her the situation and she said we dont have those rooms on the top floor. It was very upsetting as I was getting a lower grade room than what I paid for. She didn't seem to care but Carlos ended up helping us and getting us the correct room and was very nice about it. Everyone else at the hotel was very accommodating and friendly. The food they served from Cecilia's was delicious, the rooftop view and music was great as well. The room was great but the air conditioner was super loud and also dripped water from the ceiling onto our bathroom counter which disrupted trying to sleep and relax. I would definitely look into changing that but otherwise it was a very nice stay.
google avatar

Pierre M.

Yelp
It has a stellar location and offers a swimming pool. Parking is also available. Our room was OK, didn't properly have a window (facing the pool with no view). I would definitely recommend ocean view for this reason. There was a good coffee machine, a fridge, and it was clean (although outdated). Its previous name of "Inn" (under which name this was booked) makes more sense as this is not a hotel (if we booked as a "hotel" this would only be 3 stars as there is no restaurant or bar).
google avatar

Yelp
Everything was wonderful! The mellow music was awesome poolside and in our room. I love the retro look. The smoked salmon breakfast board was great delivered to the pool. The staff here is above par. Very happy experience for my 75th birthday! Thanks again Casa Loma.

Yelp
Beautiful location right off the beach and the folks that operate the day to day of the business from the front desk to the managers are nothing short of first class.
google avatar

Roberta S.

Yelp
Firstly not our first stay but first stay after rebranding. Once again location is the best. Rooms have been renovated and are very nicely done. The disappointing things are the "amenity charge" which is $35/day + plus tax this covers use of the pool and "WIFI" where in this day and age do you pay for basic WiFi in your room. In addition, self parking $45/night. So folks add $100 to your room charge. Additionally they have added a bar and food. I'm not even going to share prices but a glass of wine will cost you $20. You've been advised.

Yelp
FYI this review is mostly about Felipe! (More on that in a moment) This is a beautiful boutique hotel. Great staff, very clean, right on the water with a fantastic rooftop area. I have not stayed here yet but would love to in the future. We went here on a Saturday afternoon in January to check this place out as a possible wedding venue. It is very lovely and will be even better once all of the renovations are completed. As mentioned, this review is mainly about Felipe the General Manager. Felipe is a gem. He is a true people person. He made our visit to explore the facility so enjoyable. He was also super patient with us and had absolutely no problem when we asked if we could wait for the maid of honor who was unfortunately super late (coming all the way from Temecula with a baby). When she got close to the hotel but couldn't find it, he also went above and beyond for us, walking up and down the street, trying to help find her!! So nice! Who does that? When she did arrive and he was walking us around the hotel he kindly answered all of our questions, never getting impatient, making it all about us, our experience and what we wanted. I left there thinking, wow, he is such a great person, I wish Felipe was one of my friends! Lol! I truly hope Casaloma knows what an asset to their hotel Felipe is.

Yelp
This hotel is in the perfect location on the beach and has a super hospitable staff. Very warm atmosphere in the rooms and a nice pool area. Would definitely recommend for a relaxing getaway

Yelp
Just stayed here and paid over $1500 for a night. The lobby was in the parking lot due to construction, no one asked to help us with our luggage , and the hall ways etc was dusty and dirty due to some sort of construction. Not worth the money and I do not recommend staying here.

Kim P.

Yelp
This place is a dive! Only good thing is that's it is on the beach. Toilet runs continuously, phone doesn't work. No water pressure, no hot water. No continental breakfast! For the price they charge per night it should be pristine!
google avatar

John K.

Yelp
Wine on the house right at sunset on their roof top bar! Excellent vista of the ocean from rooms facing west. Rooms were excellent and bed was comfortable although a balcony would take it to the next level. I'm not sure they had that option but I think it would be worth it to kick in the extra bucks next time. You can access the beach easily as there are stairs to a walkway to a nearby park. There are many places to grab a coffee, lunch, or dinner. I'm totally impressed with this area as I've never stayed at Laguna overnight. I would say the best time to visit is in December because the weather was excellent and the traffic was minimal. I can see this place being a rat race in the summer and good luck with parking. Parking was challenging right before Christmas and most people should be at home...I on the other hand like going Rogue during this time of year!
google avatar

Yelp
Great positioning on the beach! We paid 200.00 a night we thought but after checking out and getting home we were hit with a 40.00 parking fee and 30.00 resort fee bringing our stay to almost 300.00. The room was PCH view, noisy, cracked walls, ripped carpet, air cond sounded like a airplane. As Also the room was very small Felt like we fell for a tourist trap. Not even close to value vs cost. Stay away if your smart

Yelp
This is the worst hotel, other than a fantastic location. The hotel is old no amenities no view no patios unless you're in front of the pool except for the rooms in front of the pool, you are facing the street or the construction. The hotel did not let us know they were under construction and we paid $1200 for a room that we thought was going to be amazing instead we got, a budget room that should've been going for $200. There were stains all over the carpet that they tried to cover up with a rug, no radio no speakers no upgrades, the air conditioning was so loud and they had lights in the ceiling that were green that were motion censored so when the air conditioning went on the green lights flashed like a fire alarm. I would not recommend this hotel, so disappointing!!!!

Yelp
Go here for the location as that is all this hotel has going for it. Despite a recent remodel the rooms are just okay. The entry door to the room had gaps at the top and didn't close completely and we could hear other guests in the hallway all night long. The bathroom door didn't lock and was missing the strike plate. Paint and carpet was new and the room was clean but was not amazing in any sense. If you plan to park in the underground then be very careful as the bump you drive over to get in makes your car bottom out. You have to drive in at an angle to avoid that. Service was average and the lobby is very small. This is not a hotel to impress anyone but it's location is right on the beach and that is the best thing going for it.

Yelp
I loved this place! I was beyond pleasantly surprised by my experience. You can't beat the location of course and the property was charming and just what I was hoping for as a home base during a birthday weekend celebration with friends. The rooms were comfy, relaxing, and well appointed. The pool is a little small but you're right next to the beach anyway so you can't ask for better than that. And I cannot say enough good things about the staff. David at the front desk was a gem, making everything seamless and taking great care of me when I had questions and needed assistance. Everyone on site was great, even down to the person who answered late night texts and helped with a minor issue after hours. I had no issues with parking in their garage (it's expensive but everywhere has expensive parking these days). All in all, this is a fantastic place to stay in Laguna and extremely reasonable given the location. I was there in March 2025 (post-renovation from what I gather) and I would go back in a heartbeat. And did I mention the complimentary cookies in the afternoon? ;) Customer care and service seem like a dying art these days but not at Casa Loma. Can't thank them enough for the best surprise birthday present ever. An absolute gift of a weekend getaway!

Yelp
We stayed here for 3 nights and while the location and staff were great the hotel is undergoing significant construction. Without the great staff this hotel would have rated a "1" - and that would be generous. The "lobby" is a temporary room in the parking garage with large sections of the building closed to guests. There is a photo of the lobby on their facebook page. That's what we were expecting - but that's not what we found. Construction starts at 7:00 am and continues throughout the day - 7 days a week. The "front desk" is in the parking garage. Our room was on the second floor but we couldn't take the elevator up to it since the part of the second floor where the elevator opens is within the construction zone. The solution was to take the elevator to the first floor, walk to the end and take the stairs up while a member of staff took our luggage up the elevator and through through the construction zones. Yes, the rooms were newly renovated but were not impressive. There is one small closet and one small drawer across from the sink. There is no room for your clothes - you need to live out of your suitcase. There was a single electrical outlet on the wall near the bed but none actually next to the bed. I asked one of the staff about it and were told that the rooms used to have more but they were removed to provide a more "modern" look. I guess "modern" means 1960's retro. Guests have phones, tablets and devices and need to plug them in. There was an outlet in the "desk" (really shelf) with 2 usb-a and one usb-c connector. Helpful but not convenient. There were two motion sensors in the ceiling ...one near the foot of the bed. Whenever it detected movement in the room a bright green light would flash. If you move your arm(s) or tun over when sleeping the green light flashes. We were told that it was a requirement of buildings under construction. I am not familiar with CA building codes but it seems strange to require motion sensors with flashing green lights INSIDE guest rooms. Thankfully one of the staff put some painter tape over it so that we could sleep without being jarred awake by the flashing green light. The carpet was apparently new but didn't look like it belonged in a hotel that charges what they do. There was a seam that was lumpy and frayed, On two of the mornings we were able to get hot water in the shower for a few minutes then it quickly turned cold. The staff apparently has to keep resetting the boiler. The staff tries very hard to smooth out these and other issues but there is only so much that they can do. There is NOTHING on their website or FACEBOOK or Instagram page to let you know in advance that the hotel is under construction. If we had known we may have booked another hotel or at least had an expectation of what our experience would be. Apparently the new owner does not want to publicize the fact that the renovations are far from complete and wants to continue to charge the guests the rates that would be more appropriate for a full service, newly renovated hotel which this is not. The staff will tell you the truth if you call the hotel but that puts the responsibility on the guest...not the owners where it should be. Why not put something on the hotel website and/or facebook page? Is the owner trying to hide the status of the renovation? How would a prospective guest know to call and ask about the status of the renovation? The location is great and the staff are great. The hotel might be great when the renovations are done but it's certainly not very good now.

Yelp
This hotel is the epitome of old So Cal cool! We weren't even planning on spending the night in Laguna, but after walking along the coast and passing this place, we decided we just had to stay there. It was a delight. The room was very nice, clean and great bed. We went to the complimentary happy hour on the roof terrace and met some nice folks and got to enjoy the beautiful sunset! Had coffee on the terrace in the morning--so peaceful. Absolutely hated to leave! If I had to be picky about something, there was some trim in the room that was beat up and needed to be painted, but overall, just wonderful.

Yelp
You cannot beat this location! Everything downtown Laguna will be in walking distance. If you can splurge for the balcony, it will be worth it and if not, I suggest you go to another hotel because it will just be like any other room. This hotel is old. But it does have upgrades. They preserved the charm of the 1930's look, but they can do more. Our room was small, but comfortable with an awesome view! The parking is a situation. There are 3 lots underground. 2 with about 10 and 1 with about 50. You have to remember this hotel was built back in the day and parking is hard to reconstruct especially in Laguna Beach. Once you park, leave your car and just walk everywhere. There are even trolleys to shuttle you up and down and even go Dana Point. There is happy hour every night at 5pm where wine is free and there are small snacks..emphasize, small. They can do better here, but hey, it's free! The rooftop terrace is awesome, but get there early cause they run out of seats. At 6, you can roll into the lobby for milk and cookies..this is a very nice touch. There is a Nespresso machine and though I am not fond of coffee pods, it actually made pretty good coffee. There are cute espresso cups and we enjoyed coffee on the balcony every morning. (I did however, wash the cups...I bring my own soap...because I think they just wash them with some harsh solution..I've seen it on the news...I don't think they put them in a dishwasher). There are binoculars in the room so you can scope out the sea life. There is no restaurant on site, but lots of walking options around. They have beach chairs, umbrellas, sand toys and towels in the lobby if you are headed to the beach. I did have a small incident with one of hosts at the front desk, but he apologized. Would I stay here again? For a spur of the moment getaway, I would say yes.

Yelp
Recently got married at this hotel and had a magical experience from beginning to end. My wife and I were set on having a wedding in North Laguna Beach and were excited to find out that this small boutique hotel on an amazing hill with one of the greatest views was available as a wedding venue. After reaching out to inquire more we connected with Ari from the sales team who was patient and informative without being pushy. We met Ari and toured the facility and decided to move forward with the process. We were next introduced to the amazing Elisa who was in charge of wedding planning. From our initial emails to our initial video chat Elisa was sweet, responsive, positive, I can go on and on. Wedding planning can be a stressful experience but having Elisa help guide the process made us feel confident and at ease. Her energy and excitement was contagious. From helping test drive chairs to selecting the optimal number of heat lamps, Elisa responded to every question with enthusiasm. Fast forward to wedding weekend. We met Elisa and Ari at the hotel the day before our wedding to do early prep. We had a thoughtful card and flowers in our hotel room to greet us which was a great touch. Ari and Elisa made sure we were happy with every single detail including how the napkins were folded and presented. On the wedding day they were everywhere making sure everything was executed with perfection. The bartender, Juaquin, was also great and was able to master our signature cocktails and even stopped by our rooms prior to the wedding to make sure we were happy with the cocktails. Throughout the wedding he would keep an eye on us and would bring us drinks when we were running low. Last but not least the food was great. We had an opportunity to do a tasting prior to the event and the food was as good or better on our wedding day. I also found out that Kareem Abdul Jabbar was once a part owner of this hotel which was a fun fact I appreciated as a basketball enthusiast. We look forward to celebrating future anniversaries and events at this awesome hotel and would recommend it for any occasion. Thank you Elisa and Ari for making wedding journey perfect every step of the way.

Yelp
Great staff, and super honest, they were under construction but they told me that over the phone. booked it anyway and had a nice stay with the Yorkshires!

Yelp
This was one of the nicest hotels I've stayed in for a while. It was clean. The rooms are adorable and all the little additives of coffee, tea, sugar cubes wine etc., made my stay extra pleasant. The shower was fabulous! And the beds are super comfy. Pillows are nice. I really can say very positive things. I highly recommend it.

Yelp
Absolutely exceptional customer service, the lovely lady at the front desk was extremely sweet and made myself and my cousin feel very welcome, helped us in a time of need and without any kind of negative demeanor. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a great staff!

Yelp
We staying here 5 nights .. I tagged along on my husbands work trip so we had to keep the price low enough so his boss didn't have an issue. We got a good deal thru expedia .. but there were several unexpected fees that were unfortunate .. resort fees and amenity fees ect. You get a little plastic cup of wine near sunset time and an hour later they have hot cookies and cold milk in the evening. That is all great but I'd prefer to not have the amenity fee and choose what i eat and drink. The wine around sunset is nice but cookies right before dinner time .. right after drinking wine i??? Cookies and milk in the morning seems like a better idea. Now don't get me wrong i tried to get the wine and cookies when we could arrange it. but once again the fee was unexpected. evidentially the only way to get a king sized bed without the ocean view fee was to get a handicapped room. We were in 418. the bed was firmer than we'd have liked but really enjoyed the stay. Loved the heated pool and jacuzzi. loved the location. Great location .. loved the beach and town. lots of shops and restaurants, Free trolley rides allowed me to explore other beaches. Really safe fun beautiful area. played with my camera. Lots of art galleries, shops, restaurants within walking distance. this was a nice stay. great location .. on main beach. Having an ocean view room or pool walk out room would have been even nicer but this was already more expensive than his company would be comfortable with. you need a room key to get from the garage into the building but not to park. need the room key to get in and out of pool area. There is free sun screen but it it really thick and doesn't soak in very well. at the lobby they will give beach towel, umbrellas and beach toys if you ask. There are towels outside the pool area.also.. the wine reception is on the 4th floor 5-6 pm and the cookies and milk are in the lobby at 6 pm. they have cucumber water in the lobby. they do allow dogs in the hotel .. the beach and most everywhere in this area. Great time ... don't want to leave.

Yelp
The year 2020 - it's been a complicated year to say the least and definitely one for the books. COVID-19 and social injustice has plagued the United States. It seems like every day is nothing but bad news. Needless to say, it's been incredibly difficult to feel safe or any sense of normalcy during these times. Morale and mental health has been at an all-time low for many people. I just wanted to do something special for my better half, to get away for a little while and just breathe. I decided to do something I've never done before - look for a beachfront/oceanfront hotel. Worst case scenario is that the beach is closed but we can still enjoy the ocean breeze from our hotel. As I was researching hotels in beach towns, I stumbled across The Inn at Laguna Beach. Now, there's no reason to stay at a beachfront hotel and not treat yo' self. You'd be a fool not to book an oceanview room - that's kind of the entire point. Neither of us had been to Laguna Beach before so this was an all-new adventure for us. There are two underground parking garages for hotel guests (one smaller than the other) and a handful of parking spaces up top for checking in. Speaking of which, checking in was a breeze. The staff were all friendly and masked up as were all the other guests. They had sanitized pens to use for signing in and respected social distancing which always puts us at ease (along with seeing them actively clean all the rooms/walkways thoroughly). The room itself was pretty much no frills. Upon entering there's a small bathroom with the sink outside, no microwave so plan accordingly, fridge that seems like it's not cool but actually is, bed, couch, and TV. But of course you didn't book a room here for the amenities - you booked for the view and my oh my! As soon as we entered our room 509, we were absolutely floored by the view - it's amazing! It's like a dream to look out your window and see the beach just outside. The shutters all close if you want less light and more privacy but we kept ours open our entire stay (and the people beach level can't see into your room unless you stand directly in front of the sliding glass door so feel free to be free). There's a smaller patio than I expected but it was still nice (and distant from our neighbors). Our room was just above the pool/hot tub so we heard families underneath us for quite some time along with people walking throughout the walkway. Neither were deal breakers as we got to listen to the sound of waves all night long. Considering on how much of a deep sleeper you are, this can be a blessing or a curse. I can't recommend The Inn at Laguna Beach enough! The beach is literally steps away from the hotel as are plenty of restaurant options. COVID-related - while all the staff and guests at the hotel were masked up and respective, pretty much everyone else outside were not. When we walked on the beach in the morning and explored the surrounding area, we were the only ones wearing masks so keep that in mind. Otherwise, regardless if you enjoy the oceanview from your room or if your venture down to the beach, this is a great place to stay and well-worth the cost for the views alone. Be forewarned though - it's really hard to fall asleep or go anywhere when you have such a great view of the sunset/sunrise from your room!

Yelp
It is currently 12:30am and we are in a partial ocean view room at this establishment ( room 201). Despite being oceanfront the weather is very humid and there is zero breeze. We booked this hotel because it has AC and many coastal hotels do not. I have asthma and require AC to sleep in various weather conditions including heat & especially humidity. Upon arrival we noticed the AC was not particularly cool so we called the front desk who sent service to change the filter. He told us to leave the room as there was a lot of dust coming out of the ceiling while he was doing this. The filter was very dirty with very thick dust and fuzz. He finished and vacuumed the mess left behind - but I was concerned that all of this dust was stirred up in our room. We moved on, went out to dinner & later sat outside on the balcony not paying attention to the room temperature - yet. We got in bed about 11:00pm and my husband fell asleep. I have been sitting up struggling to breathe so I checked the AC which is set for 68 but reads ( photo) 80 room temperature even though it has been on for hours. I set it to "on" and also tried it on "auto". It did not matter. The air was not cold. I called the front desk who informed me that engineering is not back on site until morning. He suggested I try opening the sliders for air. I did. There is still zero breeze coming in the room, despite the air temperature being slightly cooler outside ( still very humid). If it were not for a glaring light outside the room - I would try to sleep on our balcony. I woke my husband up as I started wheezing and was a bit scared needing my inhaler. If a hotel is advertising AC it should be sufficient to cool off a room and remove the humidity. The filters should also not be filthy. I am unhappy that I feel unwell, cannot sleep and know we have to repack and leave tomorrow to go somewhere else. My husband is active duty navy and this short 3 day break was to relieve stress but is actually causing more. Update. It's after 1am. My husband walked to the front desk and the attendant gave him a key to another room right below us and said to check if the AC is working. He said we could move in there to sleep tonight. We walked down and the room is 68 degrees & cool. We are now moving down there in the middle of the night to sleep. Update - from all of this commotion I am still awake at 2:15am and this will really stink in the morning when I am sleep deprived. Update. It's 2pm. At least the management was nice enough to refund us and we are checking out. Unfortunately our 3 day getaway to destress is so far not working. :(

Yelp
We had a fun staycation at the Inn at Laguna Beach! We spent most of our time going to the beach steps away from the hotel. The hotel provided all items you need for the beach as well, including beach chairs, towels, umbrellas, you name it. The hotel welcomed us with a small bottle of Josh's red wine, which is one of my favorites. We settled in well with a glass of wine after driving down from LA. The service was great too - we had no problem checking in and out, the room service was quick for when we needed additional items like ice, and the hotel had a wine hour, milk and cookies in the evening, and starbucks coffee in the morning. Our room came with a Nespresso too so we opted for the nespresso. We booked the ocean view room and were on the third floor. The room wasn't too small but it wasn't extremely spacious either. The shower was really tiny, but for me it was fine (I'm 5'2"). For a weekend getaway, the room did us just fine though, and we definitely enjoyed the patio overlooking Laguna Beach! Thank you for a lovely stay!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came here for New Year's Eve 2023 and it was so great. It was my boyfriend's first time in California and it was the perfect way to kick off the New Year. We were originally supposed to stay at Surf & Sand, but my mom recommended this place, as she had recently attended a wedding here (and it was half the price)! It was so so so so worth it. When we arrived, they were serving complimentary house wine and you could order cocktails for purchase. Then, at 6pm, they had milk and cookies in the lobby. So cute! The concierge let us know that we had been upgraded for free to an ocean view room that was so so perfect for my boyfriend's first time here. It was so beautiful and such a great stay. It is right on main beach and close to a ton of cute places around Laguna! (Definitely try Anastasia's for brunch if you visit!) Overall, it was just a perfect place for our one night stay!

Yelp
Where to start?... this place was a life saver! Every detail was perfection! I booked a different hotel on the beach down from Casa Loma and it was a total disaster... I found Casa Loma last minute and spoke to Rob who secured a room for us. I didnt know what to expect as the previous hotel also said "newly renovated" and it was terrible. When we arrived to check in, Rob was so accommodating and even had a glass of wine waiting for me when I walked in. As for the hotel itself, it was more than I expected. The most beautiful remodel with charm and a modern organic vibe. The room was so clean! Every detail was covered when they did the renovation, from extra comfortable bedding, high quality New Zealand water in the refrigerator to the organic tea and coffee that was in the room. Every day they served hot coffee and tea in the lobby, which was displayed so perfectly with a clean and uniform setup, followed by a complementary wine happy hour at 6 pm daily. They also served cookies and milk every day, which my 16-year old son took full advantage of. :) The layout of the hotel was so cute and right on the beach. A quick walk down the stairs and you're right on the beach. The rooftop terrace is soooooo cute! We brought our dogs (oh, yeah... and it's dog friendly!) and a glass of wine to the rooftop terrace for beautiful beach views. Every one of the staff members were so nice and accommodating. Rob and Judy, especially! They even gave us chairs, towels and toys to take to the beach. We didn't get a chance to go to the pool as it was so nice on the beach but it looked great. Next time. I am definitely coming back and will stay here again and again. Location was great for restaurants, shopping and night life. The remodel on this place is amazing. A must stay for sure!

Yelp
WOW. Just learned that there's another $35/night amenity fee for stale cookies, terrible coffee and slow wifi. Please avoid this place!!!

Ryan S.

Yelp
Me and my girl friend come here a lot. As much as we love it, it's due for a remodel. The price you pay is only worth it for the ocean view or if you can find a deal during the week. A lot of little things you can notice in the photos.

Yelp
Pros and cons of this hotel: Pros: --You can't beat this location. It's right on the beach and walking distance to all the restaurants and shops. --The room has a homey coastal grandma vibe. --Free wine and cheese at happy hour, and cookies and milk in the evening. --They lend you beach chairs, umbrellas, and beach towels. --The bar patio has an amazing view...it's an awesome place to hang out. The bartender was super nice and made a mean margarita. --Housecleaning was excellent. --Easy underground parking. Cons: --The woman with the European accent who works at the front desk is very rude. Everyone else who works there was nice, but she had a major attitude. --Do not book the king room 417--it is literally next to the housecleaning supply closet, and the door was constantly banging closed. I couldn't sleep past 8:00am. --The king rooms facing the street are almost as small as cruise-ship rooms and super claustrophobic. Make sure you book an oceanfront room! Room 414 looks like a perfect room, with a semi-private, shaded balcony. --It would be nice if they sold snacks or light food. -- The hot tub is super small and very unappealing. -- The horrible, uncomfortable synthetic pillows!
