Yelp
A great property IF you know a few things in advance. AWESOME rooms, rustic, large, yet cozy. Great food in the casual restaurant (we didn't try the pricier one). Professional and friendly staff throughout.
HOWEVER - be aware of a few things:
1) Spa: The Spa is NOT owned by the property, just on the same property. Despite the appearance of a "full service spa" for hotel guests, this spa takes outside customers as well, and due to the high volume of wedding that take place at the hotel property, we couldn't get a reservation after arriving. Be sure to book the spa appointment BEFORE confirming a room reservation or you won't be able to use this amenity. It's a bit disingenuous to advertise a full service spa as part of the hotel when it's only relationship is a shared parking lot.
2) Dining: Again, lots of weddings apparently, so make dining reservations before-hand. The dining room was completely closed off to other guests, and we were lucky enough to get a booth in the bar area. Not very intimate, but great food, and worth the price. Excellent wine selection.
3) Basement rooms: Back to the spa - do not accept a room directly below the spa property (in the basement of the hotel). Although the rooms were very nice, the ceiling of the basement rooms/floor of the spa are wooden, so you're awakened at 8am with an excessive amount of noise from above. Early risers beware. The mattresses were so-so, maybe it was just the room.
4) Room service: Don't depend on room service - they closed 2 whole hours earlier than advertised. We called 3 hours before the advertised closing time and were greeted with a voicemail box asking us to leave a message. We did so - twice. No one returned the call. On the third call, they informed us that they were closed (2 HOURS EARLY!). Luckily there's an all night Giant down the street, but it sucked to have to leave the room after we'd settled in for the night.
Bottom line, this would have been an incredibly relaxing overnight if we'd known all this - but you can't, because none of it is very clear or easy to find out without quizzing the staff (who by the way, were very apologetic about all of this, and even gave us a complementary overnight stay for 2 in one of the whirlpool suites). But they did kind of act like "well, everyone knows that you have to..." when we asked about these things (like we should have known about the wedding parties, the closed dining room, the spa situation, room service, etc.).
So hopefully, with these tips, you can enjoy your visit to what we thought was a wonderful property, perfect for a couples getaway. Just wish we'd been able to enjoy the amenities as well. Thanks to the staff for their gracious compensation, even though we booked through a third party.
