The Inn At Ocean's Edge (Lincolnville, Maine) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Midcoast Maine, the stretch of the Atlantic coast that lies just beyond Portland, is splendid enough on its own terms, a place where some of America’s wildest landscapes and seascapes meet the highly civilized traditions of New England hospitality. A stay there can be improved, however, with just a touch of boutique-hotel influence, which is what you’ll find at the Inn at Ocean’s Edge. Here, on the shores of Penobscot Bay, betwen the picturesque towns of Camden and Belfast, is a hotel that combines old-world elegance and modern hospitality in roughly equal measure, to great effect." - Tablet Hotels

What a lovely spot nestled away down the long driveway only 15 minutes from Camden Harbor! When we made our reservation for a quick 1 night getaway (too short!), I had included a note that we were celebrating our anniversary. Not only did Erica at the front desk wish us a Happy Anniversary during check in but we also had the sweetest note left in our room to wish us many years of happiness, etc. along with a surprise treat in our mini fridge. Seriously the sweetest touch to our stay! :) The staff was great during our stay and the included breakfast was wonderful! |We stayed in the hilltop second floor and the view was just as beautiful if we had stayed in the main building. We took advantage of the hot tub, infinity pool, and sauna and took in the incredible views around the property. What a hidden gem this place is. A first trip to the Camden area for us and we'll definitely return! Thank you so much to the staff at the IOE - all of those small touches make you so memorable and we'll be spreading the word! Thank you! :)

We stayed 2 nights in the pool house at the end of September for our honeymoon. Upon arrival we found a lovely treat and note to welcome us in our room. This location is so gorgeous, couldn’t recommend it more. While the pool wasn’t heated, we still enjoyed a nice hot/cold cycle between the sauna, pool and hot tub. You can take the stairs down to the pebble beach and watch the lobster boats go by. Breakfast was delicious and the service was great. Our only regret is not staying longer. Would absolutely come back!

Location was stunning set on the ocean with spectacular views. Room are ok, large and clean but here’s where the whole thing fell apart for us||Day in arrival after a 9 hour drive, was looking forward to a nice shower, only to find no shower gel in the room. Asked at reception the next day to be promised it would be refilled, upon return to our room later in the day, still empty. Had to ask again and this time it was filled at the end of day two of a three day stay. No attention to detail. Given the refillable container was completely empty I would suggest it hadn’t been checked for weeks. ||Afternoon cookies are served from 2pm, on day two of our stay we went to reception (not knowing the 2 o’clock start for cookies) asked the guy at reception who promptly and assertively expressed that we were 3 minutes early and we could wait. The message in itself was fine but the manner of delivery was short and not in line with a $600 per night stay.||Day three breakfast, we understood it was a 7am start but turns out it was 7.30. We arrived at 7.27 and joined a small line up of people waiting. Staff milling around with no acknowledgement of our existence. I asked if it was self seating and was told we open in two minutes. Again the manner was blunt. It feels like all the staff belong to a union and will only work on the dot of start time and not before. It would have been very easy just to say, take a seat and we will be right with you but no we stood and in the strike of 7.30 the staff spring into action. ||Food was great at breakfast, no compliant there at all. ||If the attitude could be managed this would be a premier location for seasoned travellers, however based on what we experienced our business goes elsewhere next time in Maine.

A very cute little hotel with very cozy rooms and well maintained grounds. The rooms were well appointed and the beds were comfy. The highlight of this property is the made to order breakfast included with your stay each morning if you book directly with the hotel. Every member of staff was very kind and truly went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. They do not offer dinner service onsite so you will need to head into town however the front desk provided us a thorough list of recommendations and the places we tried were truly fantastic! I would most certainly stay again. My only feedback is the pool is advertised as “heated” but they heat it only until about 75 degrees, so it can feel a bit chilly.

Reference:  Stay 15-19 June 2025 Once again, we had an exceptional experience in late June 2025 at the beautiful "Inn at Ocean's Edge" where the management and staff team always provides consistent, exceptional guest experiences!  This is an extraordinary achievement over at least the last 12 years we have been guests.  And importantly, the team did not disappoint during our last stay when we visited with friends for four days! From the extremely comfortable rooms, complete with deep, dreamy mattresses and luxury linens, to the delicious afternoon cookies and morning breakfasts, to the beautifully maintained, tranquil gardens and pool, the environment is perfect!  Ocean's Edge transported my wife, our friends and me to a place where we could thoroughly immerse ourselves in the local area, unwind and enjoy our vacation experience on Maine's beautiful coast. Most importantly, the team is dedicated to unfailingly providing guests with friendly service, never intrusive, always laser-focused on the specific request.  "Can do" is clearly the team's objective! The team also knows the local area well and makes wonderful recommendations for sightseeing not always on tourist "must see" lists, like the Penobscot Narrows Bridge at Fort Knox, Prospect, Maine. Very few vacation resorts truly provide consistently exceptional guest experiences, year after year.  The Inn at Ocean's Edge is one of our "go to" vacation spots. We enjoy it so much, we already have reservations for late June 2026! If we could rate the management and staff team, accommodations and property a 12 out of 10, we would!  The total guest experience keeps us coming back year after year and highly recommending the resort to family and friends!!

I typically do food reviews, but considering how great our stay was, I wanted to let others know as well. The rooms and service were incredible. An additional surprise was the breakfast that was included was made-to-order and included a lot of incredible options. We stayed mid-week which was cheaper. The grounds and views of the ocean were amazing!

Google
The staff was very friendly and the Inn was on a beautiful property which offers scenic views. Our room was quite large but the TV was quite small, may 30 inches, and the bathroom outdated without a walk in shower. Would have been good for a bath though. Good deal for the money though.

If you are trying to 'get away from it all', this is the place for you! Situated right on the Penobscot Bay, the Inn is located far enough off of the highway that there is no road noise, adding to the serene surroundings. The rooms are plush with every amenity you could hope for. Breakfast is superbly prepared offering fresh and local enticements. The infinitely pool is delightful, giving one the feel that you are about to float off into the bay. And don't miss getting a massage! Tracy was fabulous! If I could pick only one spot to escape to each summer, this would be it! So far away from DC in every way!

Yelp
What a gorgeous wedding venue! In my lifetime I've been to about 30 weddings and this by far was one of the top locations! Granted you need to hope for good weather, but my cousin was a very lucky lady in late September. I liked how big the property was - plenty of room for people to spread out, enjoy their food, or be on the dance floor. The sunset over the water was epic! We even saw bald eagles flying & fishing off shore. This location is so picturesque (heck even the bathroom was cute for selfies). The bride and her parents were blown away by the overnight accommodations too! I saw pics with the view of the infinity pool. Staff was wonderful, everything was spotless clean, and best of all the crowd & bride and groom had an awesome time!

Yelp
We stayed at this absolutely beautiful Inn. We had to change rooms due to our own mishap. However, both rooms were spacious and lovely with Panobscot Bay Views. The grounds, gardens are stunning. Infinity pool is so inviting. So why the rating of a 4? Well for the price of the room I would expect a coffee maker in the room. I did ask and the staff, oh so accommodating, gave me a French Press set up. Good thing I was familiar with it. So I suggest and did suggest they have coffee makers in the rooms. Otherwise you'll need to wait till they serve breakfast at 7:30a. Ladies don't expect a makeup mirror in the bathroom, there isn't one. It's the little things that make your stay. Otherwise, a lovely facility and the staff couldn't be friendlier. Breakfast was delicious.

Yelp
Such a special place. Stayed for two nights on our roadtrip on the coast of Maine. From checkin to checkout everything was easy. Staff is so friendly, breakfast is amazing, the views, the grounds everything is perfect. Highly recommended the hilltop 2nd floor rooms. They are spacious and the porches have beautiful views.

Yelp
The grounds and room were beautiful. I stayed in the pool house. Everything was bright and clean. Having made to order breakfast included was also such a nice perk. The only complaint was the front desk woman was not very friendly or informative.

Emily V.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here for our 1 year wedding anniversary and the property was better than expected. We were greeted by an easy and friendly check in process. The hotel upgraded our room to the main building which we were so thankful. When we entered into our room we were greeted with fresh flowers and champagne with a lovely hand written note. The room was extremely clean and bright and comfortable bedding. The only complaint is due to it being an older building when the room next to us took a shower the pipes banged in the morning. The breakfast was amazing and the staff hosting were so attentive and helpful, the food was delicious. Having breakfast overlooking the property was an added bonus. I highly recommend this property.

Yelp
Stayed at this hotel for a "honeymoon " weekend trying to get to know Maine and it's surroundings. We drove from Newport Beach RI and it was a good 5 hour drive.... I love driving, so we were prepared for this! I have to stress out that this hotel, is quite nice on the boutique size and amenities. They do not have a restaurant for dinner for which you have to go to town and try to find a table.... So, if arriving late, be sure to make reservations prior at any restaurant in town. They do not have even snacks at this hotel. As for ambiance, this hotel is small and you feel like it is deserted... we were there the weekend of the 4th of July, so even though it had people (we could see next morning at breakfast) it seemed empty. So, if you are looking for a CALM place to read, relax, be on your own, no busy town or place around, this is the place. The fact os that we were going to stay 3 nights and decided to cancel the third one as this was too calm for our taste and no good restaurants or things to do anywhere near! The reason for my 4 stars, We need more ambiance, better restaurants near by, better amenities and restaurants in the hotel for dinner.... But we know there are many people out there who rather have this type of hotel. The pool area is very nice with an infinity pool and a jacuzzi... we did not get in but there were people who did and did not complain. The spa area is simply an area for when there is a booking... looks more like a social club spa than a hotel spa! They do give you towels at the pool, no food or drink service at the pool or anywhere. Breakfast is above average, actually the best in the hotel other than the room which was pretty good. We had a room at the main building on the second floor, recommended!!! We had a nice view, nice ample space, a chimney, and a decent size bathroom. The bed was Tall!! Maybe too tall for most people, so elderly have to be careful there. All in all, we did enjoy our time there but this is not a hotel we fancy! So hope you do enjoy your stay if you decide to pay the steep price this costs!!! Cheers

Yelp
We enjoyed our stay at Inn At Ocean's Edge during the week of August 25, 2024. Special thanks to Megan, Hugh, and staff for excellent service. The breakfasts were delicious. The rooms and grounds were beautiful. The location on the bay was perfect. We look forward to visiting again next summer !

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at the Inn at Ocean's Edge this past September. We really enjoyed our stay! The property is stunning and the room was beautiful. We stayed at the Hilltop building and loved sitting by the fire and having a private balcony. It also was very quiet this time of year, making it even more relaxing. In terms of COVID, we felt very safe. The hotel allowed us to take back breakfast in the morning, which we enjoyed on the balcony. The hotel is also in a great location. It was nice being so close to town, but having peace and quiet at the inn. We'll definitely be back and would highly recommend to a friend!

Yelp
Beautiful grounds and super clean and minimalistic rooms (not your typical New England "come and hang out at grandma's house" vibe). Social distancing is well respected at the pool and common areas, the staff is polite but not super accommodating (taking CDC guidelines and adding to them much more), the coffee is good, and the overall stay is pleasant. Views as beautiful, as you can see. The water in this hotel smells and tastes funky. I could not get out of the shower quick enough and even rinsed my mouth with bottled water. Not sure what is causing the water to have an odor and taste, but if they took care of this it would result in a superior experience.

Yelp
While I was hoping to not have to write this review, the hotel continued to disappoint. Not sure where to start. The hotel advertises a spa, which I booked a month in advance (non-refundable on my part). The morning of my massage (which was the day I checked in), I got a call saying the massage therapist could only do an hour later (which would have been during dinner time). No apology for the last minute cancellation - the hotel simply said the massage therapist who they allow on their property and market to guests was an independent contractor and they were not responsible. Then, when I checked in, the front desk told me I did have a massage, which led to confusion and unnecessary stress given that I was going to be charged if I did not show up. It took 20 minutes to straighten out whether I did indeed have a massage booked (I did not - as the hotel flaked on me). The hotel advertises a heated pool but beware, they do not heat it. Multiple guests commented on how frigid the pool was (not just me). The small hot tub is overly crowded given that the pool is not heated. The room lacks basic amenities that a 4 star hotel would typically provide (e.g., robes, laundry bags). I asked for a laundry bag so I could put my dirty clothes from a hike away and no one provided one. I feel badly writing this review as the staff was very friendly, especially the waitresses at breakfast. However, after my stay, I received an email to fill out a survey of my experience. I took time out of my day to fill that survey out, and never heard back from anyone at the hotel. They clearly don't like being held accountable for their broken promises (heated pool, spa on site with a dependable therapist). Do yourself a favor and if you are going to get cheap service, stay somewhere cheap, or stay at a true luxury hotel.

Yelp
One word-"outstanding!" This place was beautiful! The lush, manicured grounds and the view! We started walking around the property to check it out. The beach was rocks. Lots and lots of rocks but a place where we would collect heart shaped rocks to add to our collection back home. My husband booked the pool house for our anniversary. He surprised me with sparkling wine and chocolate dipped strawberries. It was amazing, cozy and romantic! We enjoyed the hot tub and loved the infinity pool and the outdoor fire place....I want one. I left with a huge wishlist of ideas for our home. The bed was comfortable and the in room jacuzzi was awesome! Very relaxing! The room could have used more towels and facecloths. We saw the autumn moon at night followed by an amazing sunrise the next morning. The breakfast was amazing, although-the fruit was all a little to tart for our liking. I would definitely recommend the omelette with the roasted potatoes, bacon and maple sausage. Delicious! After breakfast I was surprised with a massage in the spa under the pool house! It was also amazing. The staff was very nice. We're already talking about going back next year but for a few nights. Thank you!!!

Yelp
An amazing romantic getaway! We went here for our honeymoon and just returned for our first anniversary. This place is so unbelievably gorgeous and makes you feel rich and pampered. The endless pool with views of the ocean is amazing. The sauna and hot tub are to die for. The lovely furnishings, carpets, towels everywhere, excellent service and beautiful lawns are all worth the visit. The views from the room and the lounge chairs by the water are incredible. Breakfast is lovely and is served to you. There is NOTHING to complain about. This place is worth the money. Stay here for your next romantic retreat.

Yelp
My friend and I came for the night to Camden, ME to get away from the craziness going on. We read great reviews and thought the property looked lovely. Indeed, it is a beautiful property and the beds are quite comfortable. However, this was ALL overshadowed by the rude and extremely unreasonable general manager and front desk staff. BE WARNED: YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED A LATE CHECK-OUT HERE! Not only do you need to pack up your bags and leave your room (which makes sense so they have plenty of time to clean before the next person), you aren't even allowed to stay on the property to enjoy the views and the pool. The best part of it is that you aren't allowed to GET TO THE HOTEL until 3pm. So, if you are only staying a night or two, it's an awful experience because the pool is only sunny from 10-2pm. Moral of the story: DO NOT COME HERE FOR ONLY 1-2 NIGHTS! The staff could care less about your experience and they make the entire stay about COVID. While I appreciate the attention to guests' safety, when there is NO ONE AT THE POOL / ON THE CHAIRS, it makes NO sense to not give someone who paid hundreds of dollars a night to enjoy the setting. I'm not asking to stay for hours but I'm asking for kindness, fairness, and a dose of rational thinking. Maybe this place is fantastic when there is no COVID (I bet it is!) but if you're looking to escape for a few days, do not come here. They simply do not put the guests first and make arbitrary rules (which they do not tell you about when checking in and which they don't list on their website). Then, when you inquire to stay late, they do not budge or are just plain rude. Other guests that we spoke with here were not aware of these rules either and were very unsatisfied. Learn from our horrible experience and book somewhere else that care about guests experience and happiness. Maine is beautiful and Camden is a great town so definitely find some other inn to be at. Happy and safe travels!

Yelp
Longing for a long weekend, I stumbled upon this cute hotel online. The pictures and small scale of the Inn were exactly what we were seeking. Upon arrival, we were kindly greeted by Lisa who showed us the property, answered our questions, and got us on our way quickly. We stayed in a ocean facing room on the main floor. It's clear that they maintain the buildings and rooms meticulously. Our room was spacious, fresh, and extremely clean. We spent a lot of time at the infinity pool. Which was refreshing and a nice atmosphere overlooking the water. We enjoyed how the hotel only has 30 something rooms, nothing was every busy, cramped, or overwhelming. The pool area was always serene, guests understood that it was an escape and were very respectful. The hot tub was warm and a nice touch. We walked down to the ocean and explored on the rocks a bit which was cool. In the morning, Breakfast was very good, coffee and tea available as well. Overall an exceptional experience and we look forward to returning next summer.

Yelp
Had the pleasure of spending 3 nights at this luxurious and exceptionally clean, up to date resort this past weekend. The fireplace in our large room was beautiful, effective and appreciated after having wine on our balcony. The deluxe bathrooms were spacious and featured marble countertops and showers with sliding barn type doors. We took advantage of the large hot tub and a wonderful sauna with handy shower nearby. Large fluffy towels were plentiful and we appreciated the robes in our closets. The grounds were so beautifully manicured and flowers and ferns were lush and gorgeous. We saw both a groundhog and a wild turkey at dusk returning from a wonderful meal at 18 Central which was recommended and reserved for us by Lisa, the friendly and helpful desk manager. Best gourmet breakfast ever! Large selection at a fruit bar and many pastries and breads available - must try the scones! Lydia was our favorite waitress and was so attentive and pleasant, always smiling. She did a great job of explaining the made to order omelettes and specialties of the house with local delicious Maple syrup. Hope she's there when we come back, because we Will be back!

David R.

Yelp
Clean large rooms, nice staff, great grounds. Infiniti pool, jacuzzi, and sauna. Close to Camden & Lincolnville restaurants. Would definitely return.

Clay R.

Yelp
We stayed for a few nights and loved it. Breakfast was great, very nice atmosphere, beautiful views, and the staff were extremely pleasant and professional. We will definitely return in the future.

Yelp
This is the place to stay if you are in the area of Camden and want peace and quiet with an amazing view, a pool, hot tub and sauna, and the most unbelievably comfortable bed ever! Luxuriously soft bathrobes, a fireplace in the bedroom to cozy things up, and an absolutely delicious complementary breakfast that includes fresh eggs any way you like them while overlooking the ocean! We were only teased by this luxurious inn for a one night stay and cannot wait to come back very soon with a book to read in one of the cushioned lounge chairs either pool side or lawn/ocean side. Once we toured the property, we couldn't wait to get back to it after being out and about. This is the kind of place you don't want to leave even to go out to dinner because it's just that beautiful! I am a lifetime customer and plan to return on a yearly basis!

Yelp
Gorgeous setting and grounds. Rooms are nice - especially the in room spa-tub and gas fireplace. Breakfast very good. Pool phenomenal. Staff - all over the map. Some terrific, some subpar and almost unwelcoming. Overall, seems to fall in the gray area b/w old school Maine and modern luxury. Go for the pool and breakfast!

Yelp
My wife and I just returned from a long weekend at this sumptuous Inn. The staff was outstanding in its service, the food was delicious with a very healthy morning serving. We stayed in the Hillside rooms with a spectacular view of the ocean. The dry, cool air was a welcome break from the hot and humid weather we left at home. The pool and pool house was elegant and offered every amenity anyone could want. The front desk personnel, especially Scott, Ashley and Kay were friendly and helpful. The wifi was not working in the Hilltop rooms, but was being installed at the end of our visit. Some of the carpeting needs some replacement and our bathroom has some minor repairs needed around the molding. These were very minor issues and did not negatively impact our stay. We highly recommend this special place and look forward to a return trip.

Troy B.

Yelp
Fantastic place!! Beautiful location with a great view and clean, comfortable rooms. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The whole place is romantic and throw in the beautiful pool and nice restaurant and this is someplace I'd be glad to come back to every year--more than once if we lived closer. We stayed four days and I can't say a single negative thing about the inn, the grounds or the staff. Perfect!

Yelp
We stayed three nights, and wished it was more. We recommend the rooms in the "Hilltop" upper building, they were quiet, large with balconies to enjoy the view. The king bed was incredibly comfortable. the bathroom spacious with a large shower. It's a beautiful hotel on water's edges. The endless salt water pool was beautiful and wonderful to swim in. The breakfast was delicious and substantial. The staff was available and very helpful. Drive up to Belfast as well as the more popular Camden. The coast is rugged and the towns are charming.

Yelp
My husband and I just stayed here for three nights. It was a beautiful property with a very welcoming staff. We stayed in one of the hilltop rooms. The pool was beautiful, breakfast delicious, property serene. In fact at one point there were not enough cushions for the seating area around the pool. I asked and was I formed that they had been destroyed but they were waiting for a delivery in a few days. I went back to the pool and not more than an hour later a you d woman came down with brand new cushions. I think they went out and just bought new ones. Now that to me is service. Also, Welsey gives a great massage. Totally worth the price. Hope to be back soon!!!

Alyssa M.

Yelp
AMAZING! So romantic, great location! Awesome restuarant within the grounds that you get to via a gorgeous path through the woods. The free breakfast was amazing, with wonderful views. And they even leave the pool open late (till october when we went!), although it was a bit chilly. We stayed in the building up on the hill and it still provided great views from the balcony, 2 person jaccuzzi, fire place, huge bed and a good sized room all together. Shower was tiny, but we could care less! So close to all the fun hiking, leaf peeping, ocean fun in Camden and affordable! I would definetly go back!

Kathryn H.

Yelp
Wonderful place for a romantic getaway. Stayed in a Poolhouse Suite room, which was HUGE, airy and beautiful. Only downside was a little noise from the pool with the door open, but that was minimal. Very nice staff, helpful with dinner reservations in town. Excellent breakfast each morning (served 8-9:30 so beware if you likely to sleep late). Would not recommend for small children, but if you are looking for a place where there is nothing to do but sip cocktails, watch the ocean and hold hands with the one you love - this is for you. Camden, very cute town, right nearby and lots of outdoors activities (we went sea kayaking...

Yelp
I searched the web for a romantic getaway to celebrate my 26th wedding anniversary. When we arrived, the staff was very accommodating. Pleasantly to our surprise, our room was exceptionally bright and airy. We stayed in The Hilltop Room 6 and the view to Penobscot Bay was magnificent. Our room had all the amenities needed: comfortable bed, clean and updated bathroom, wifi, deck, gas fireplace, sink with refrigerator. The breakfast was served in a bright great room in the main house. Coffee, fresh melon, blueberries, strawberries, all types of breads and muffins in addition to their choices of eggs, crepes and French-toast. This location is close to Camden and Rockland which have numerous restaurant choices. Don't miss The Lobster Pound just 5 minutes north of the Inn. Many activities in and around this location. Sight seeing along the coast of Maine with its many Light houses including Marshall Point featured in the movie Forest Gump. It was nice to see other couples enjoying the same - infinity pool and an outdoor fire pit! Someday we will return!
